A Wedding and an EX

Emma’s POV

The look Irene had on her face was one of confusion, as she waited in anticipation for me to tell what was going on.

“You would not believe this!” I exclaimed, still reeling from excitement.

“We just got an offer to plan the senator's nephew's wedding.”

“No way!” Irene shouted.

“That's like the biggest event to ever come across us.”

“I know right,” then I paused.

“Come to think of it, how is it possible that we got selected to carry out this event? I mean there are lots of planners out there, most of them more qualified than I am.”

Irene was not into any of that.

“Now is not the time to think, Emma, we should be on our feet planning the biggest event of the year.”

I exhaled happily,

“You are right, get the team ready, we have a lot of work to do, I am so happy, with this, we will be recognized in the country. What a good way to compensate me for having a bad date.”

I had everyone in my office work round the clock, this was a challenge for me, the biggest challenge I have ever faced in my career, and I wanted it to go well.

To be sure it was not just a prank offer, I reached out to the groom whose number was at the bottom of the letter, true enough he wanted me to plan his wedding.

Within a week, everything was set for what was to be, the most elaborate wedding in the country.

I was in my apartment with my best friend, Anna, when a package arrived for me.

Surprisingly, it was a dress. As the event planner, I already picked out something really official to wear. I unraveled the package to see a beautiful suede dress and silver heels in it, as well as a note.

“Come as a guest,” the note read.

I shook my head,

“No way am I wearing this to the wedding.”

“It would be rude to turn down this nice offer, why don't you just wear the beautiful dress for the party.” Anna tried to encourage me.

“It doesn't seem right to me, why would the groom send me a dress for his own wedding?.”

“Some people just have different ways of showing their appreciation. Maybe this is his own way.”

I traced my hands along the gown, it was really beautiful, since Anna said there was no harm in wearing it, I would.

I was awed by the amount of dignitaries that graced the occasion, but it was expected of someone in the high ranking.

Irene insisted on overseeing the entire event while I moved around like a guest.

I was not really comfortable leaving all the work to her, though she was highly competent, this was the biggest gig I have ever received in my few years as an event planner, nothing was supposed to go wrong.

So far, my team was doing a good job.

I could hear side comments about the decorations and all, and my heart did a little dance inside, I really wanted to approach the ones speaking and present myself as the planner in charge, but that would look unprofessional.

We had taken our seats, somehow I was led to the front row seats, which I didn't mind, it would give me a better view of things.

The groom walked in, he looked charming and excited, but I didn't really pay him much attention, all eyes were focused on the bride, and her father as they walked in.

I smiled sadly, this would have been me, only if Jason had chosen to stay, but he didn't want to have anything to do with me.

I had imagined how everything was going to be, but he ruined it by leaving me without a good explanation.

I shook the thought off my head, it wasn't the time to reminisce about the past.

The bride reached the pulpit, ready to exchange vows with her husband.

Then a familiar face caught my attention, just behind the groom, his head was bent.

I stretched my neck to be sure it was who I imagined to be there. When he looked up, it was all there, the smile and those darn dimples, the alluring eyes, with the little freckles on his nose.

“Jason!” I shouted as I jumped to my feet.

My heart beat widely, threatening to burst out of my chest, I couldn't believe it.

“Jason.” I called again.

He looked at me with a familiar smile.

I noticed everyone was looking at me, so I sat down feeling embarrassed and uneasy,

It was him, alright. He recognized me.

I could feel his gaze upon me anytime I dared to look at him.

He was fixed, not moving. I was sure everyone noticed it too, or it was just my imagination.

The couple took their vows, and they moved to the other section for refreshments.

If there was one thing I wished for, it was to leave the occasion without bumping into Jason, he was the last person I ever wanted to see.

I went to the table, where people helped themselves to whatever was on display.

I took some caviar and champagne.

My insides felt hot.

Suddenly, the groom approached me.

“There you are,” he smiled as he approached me.

I comported myself around him.

“I hope it is to your liking.”

“Indeed it is, you really outdid yourself, I want to thank you personally for doing this, I had my doubts at first, but you've made my wedding a memorable one.”

His words lifted my spirit a bit,

“Thank you,”

I tried to leave but he stopped me.

“I'd like you to meet my cousin, Jason Micheal.” He introduced.

The worked stood still as Jason appeared flashing me his killer smile,

I was rooted to the ground unable to move, the one person I was trying to avoid, the one who walked out on me four years ago was the cousin to the groom.

When he spoke, his voice made the hairs on my neck stand.

“Hello Emma, it's been a while.”
