[Carys Elffire]
‘... please Kian, don’t do this. You said we’d find a way together. If you do this today, you will lose me forever. I will never be yours again and I… I will never, ever forgive you.’
Once again, my mate had entrapped me with his soulful, light brown eyes. But this time, his gaze lacked all emotions as his bloodshot eyes pierced me like daggers. His stoic face and pale complexion confirmed my fears.
Tears welled in my eyes, blurring my vision. I felt as if I was being crushed beneath the gravity of his prickling scrutiny. His gaze held mine and my tears betrayed me, streaming down my cheeks.
I shook my head slightly.
‘Please Kian, don’t do this to us… I love you.’
His impassiveness flickered with something that I dared to believe was love. It was for such a fragile second, but I felt paralyzed. My legs trembled and I could barely stand before him as he said those words.
‘I, Kian Nyx Abner… reject you, Carys Elffire, as my fated mate…’
*****
My eyes snapped open as I gasped through clenched teeth. The pain that I thought I had buried long ago surged through my body again. Panting slowly, I took deep breaths to conceal the pain.
I didn’t understand why those memories resurfaced at a time like this. But I’d realize it pretty soon.
Perhaps because… the pain I was about to go through was exactly what I felt when my fated mate rejected me.
After my rejection, I was shattered. But in that dark time, Joshua found me and sheltered me from my pain. He gathered my broken pieces, stayed by my side, and showed me that being rejected by my fated mate wasn’t the end of the world.
Joshua taught me that even broken hearts could fall in love again. And it was the shattered souls that loved most passionately.
Ever since, I never looked back. I buried my past and walked towards my future with Joshua by my side.
I stood by his side and loved him with all my broken pieces, and he healed me and caressed my heart with his love.
We trained together and as time passed; we fell deeply in love. I believed our love to be the purest and most unconditional. Maybe that was something only I believed.
He ascended as the alpha of the Nightfall Autumn pack and I became his devoted beta.
Being born as the only daughter of beta Logan Elffire, the former beta of the Autumn pack, I was trained and brought up to become Joshua’s beta.
Working as his beta by his side, staying beside him day and night. There was nothing more I could have asked.
Though Joshua wasn’t my second chance mate, his love was no less. With him, I gave love a second chance.
Together, we worked for our pack and were unbreakable as a team.
“Trust me, Carys. For you, I’d even reject my fated mate.”
That’s what Joshua used to say every time we made love. Testament of his commitment.
Although I wonder now if our love was as unbreakable as it seemed to me, or was it unbreakable only for me?
The same fear I felt before my rejection had engulfed me again.
My heart had been restless ever since we set off for this journey to the Percy Spring pack. Former alpha and Joshua’s father, Maximus Nightfall and former luna and Joshua’s mother, Valentina Nightfall, had arranged his marriage with the princess of the Percy Spring pack, Edith Percy.
And I knew nothing about it until I reached the Spring pack with Joshua and his parents. Until now, I thought we were going to the Spring pack for a political meeting. Joshua said that the urgent meeting was called to discuss the mysterious disappearance and deaths that haunted the three pure werewolf packs.
Our car entered the precinct of the Spring palace.
“Carys, I didn’t mean to hide it from you. Everything happened so fast that I just didn’t have the time to tell you.” Joshua sat beside me in the back seat of the car.
I kept looking outside the window at the long stretch of beautiful, vividly enchanting flowers. No wonder the Spring pack was known as the paradise on earth. The garden probably had all the colors that existed in this world. But I could feel colors from my life fading as we neared the palace.
“We’ll find some way,” Joshua said in a low but defeated tone.
We had kept our relationship a secret for all these years.
I didn’t know what to say to him anymore.
He placed his hand beside mine as his little finger slid over mine. I placed my hand on my lap. Pursing my lips tightly, I suppressed my tears that threatened to reveal themselves.
Everything about our relationship was complicated, but the thing that made it most complex was him being the alpha and I the beta.
I no longer trusted those words ‘we’ll find some way.’ If you can’t see a way in front of you to make things work, there is no way and there never will be a way. This was a cruel lesson my ex-mate had taught me.
*****
The private evening party was on a full swing, with top ranks from the three biggest pure werewolf packs. The Nightfall Autumn pack. The Percy Spring pack and the Helios Summer pack.
I wore a navy blue off shoulder satin dress pairing it with a diamond choker and silver heels. My long hair hung loose, cascading my partially revealed back.
Anxiety churned in my stomach as I skimmed my eyes across the hall with modern furnishing, intricate lighting, and standard royal marble flooring. I didn’t want to attend the party, but it was my duty. I need to fulfill my duty as a beta.
“Beta Carys, long time no see,” Jax greeted me with a kiss on my cheek. Jax was the beta of the Spring pack. “Every time I see you, you turn more intoxicatingly alluring than before.”
He offered me a glass of red wine. Jax was thirty-three years old, five years older than me. I had recently turned twenty-eight.
“I should say the same about you. You are getting too hot for the Spring pack. Why don’t you join the Summer pack instead?” I chuckled.
He sneered, “oh, come on, you know those bastards. The way they keep all their internal affairs a secret, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were doing some crazy experiments on people in their pack.”
“Indeed, it was a surprise when I heard they were attending this meeting cum party—”
“Cum party?” Jax teased.
“Oh, gross, Jax. You and your dirty mind.”
“It’s sexy mind, love. Sexy mind, nothing’s dirty about my billion dollar mind, you know.”
We laughed while sitting near the bar counter.
“When did princess Edith return to the Spring pack?” I asked Jax. Edith had gone abroad to complete her studies. She rarely visited the Spring pack.
“A week ago, after completing her graduation. Alpha always had such a hard time convincing her to come back to the pack. But this time, Princess Edith came back on her own for the party. Maybe it was her fate calling, don’t you think so?”
I gaped at him, perplexed.
Jax followed my gaze when I looked around. Everyone was at the party except Joshua and Edith. The alpha and luna of the Spring pack were having a hearty conversation with Joshua’s parents in the royal lounge.
The butlers dressed in black butler’s uniforms served the guests. They were all well built. While the Summer pack sat aloof from everyone else in the party.
“Hey, Carys. Want me to tell you something about Princess Edith?”
“What?”
“She is very stubborn. Once she wants something, she always gets it. And if someone comes in the way, she destroys them. So if you are looking for alpha Joshua. It’s time you stop looking for him.” Jax said, gulping down the wine in his glass and placing it on the counter for a refill.
The goblet in my hand shook as I got to my feet.
“What do you mean? He is my alpha. How can I stop looking for him? It’s my duty to ensure his safety.”
Jax chuckled.
“Of course, as a beta you can, but I am pretty sure right now your eyes aren’t looking for the alpha you serve, but the alpha you love,” he said.
A strange stifling feeling enveloped my heart. I always tried to hide our relationship, but today, I wanted everyone to find out that Joshua and I were in love. I didn’t want to lose him. If being discovered could stop this marriage, I was willing to risk it.
“So what? What if I am looking for the man I love?” I said, spinning the wine in my goblet.
Jax smiled, taking a deep breath, “you finally confessed.” His expressions turned grim. He looked into my eyes. “Wrong timing, Carys.”
“Why?” I asked, gulping hard.
Jax looked into my eyes. “This meeting is not what you think it is. All I can say is… be careful.”
My body tensed at the weight of his words.
“Sorry, but… I don’t understand, Jax. What do you mean?”
“Finding your fated mate in an arranged marriage. Then arranging a party to announce the marriage, but the party actually has a political agenda. What a pleasant coincidence. Or is it a coincidence? Things have changed, Carys.” He chuckled, looking upstairs.
The restlessness grew in my chest at his words. He patted my shoulder. “You are intelligent. I am sure you can take the hint.”
My heart caught an erratic rhythm.
He smiled and walked past me, greeting a guest with a warm laughter.
What the hell is going on? Was there more to the uneasiness I had been feeling in my guts ever since I entered the Spring pack? I had to find out what was going on.
With heavy steps, I trudged upstairs.
Following Joshua’s scent through the hallways, I stopped in front of a room.
My heart thudded at the suppressed noises that came through the slightly ajar door.
There was another scent mingled with Joshua’s scent. I reached out to the doorknob, but my hands stopped and curled into a fist…
“Ah! Uh! Joshua! God Joshua, I fucking missed you so much, ungh! I missed doing this with you so much… fuck… oh yes…” Edith moaned as if she was—
I slapped my hands on my mouth and stepped back from the door.
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. No. It can’t be. It can’t be him.
Steeling my heart, I peeped through the ajar door.
My world came crumbling down. For a second, I couldn’t believe my eyes. But it was true, and this was happening. Joshua was having sex with Edith against the floor to ceiling glass window.
My heart pounded in my chest, each beat pumped poison into my veins. My hands trembled, and my throat tightened, making it difficult to breathe. Rage, confusion, betrayal. I don’t know what I felt at that moment. I was too paralyzed to feel anything as the storm of emotions crashed upon me.
Edith’s slim, fair legs were wrapped around his waist as he rammed into her. Both of them were naked, their clothes scattered on the bed and the floor.
They were doing this. No, they have done this before as well. When? Where? For how long?
“I missed you too, Edith. I fucking missed you…” he clenched his jaws and thrusted into her. “... so fucking bad.”
Edith opened her eyes, and that’s when our eyes met. I was about to avert my eyes when she smirked at me.
What? What the hell!
I wanted to look away, but I was paralyzed, rooted to the reality that unfurled before my eyes.
“I am your mate, but you don’t love me, Joshua…”
“Who said that, Edith? I fucking love you. A love, a rush, I have never had for anyone else.”
“Then show me you love me. Fuck me like you own me.”
Joshua chuckled in his deep, seductive voice that once used to melt into me.
“What’s gotten into you today?” Joshua turned her around, pressing her hands against the glass as he took her from behind.
I wanted to enter the room, stop him, question him, scream at him. But I was frozen and numb under the gravity of my emotions.
“Because this time, I am going to make you mine… I will remove all your doubts about our marriage forever…” Edith said.
Stumbling backwards, I broke into sobs, covering my mouth with my hands. Tears streamed down my eyes incessantly.
Joshua looked towards the door with a jerk and widened his eyes when our gaze collided.
Hitting my chest and suppressing my tears, I dashed through the hallways towards the dark, isolated back stairs down to the pool area.
Evening transitioned into night, and I kept running deeper and deeper into the dark woods, trying to control myself and strengthen myself. I still had the meeting to attend, but my heart was ripping apart and I couldn’t do a thing about it.
Their voices echoed in my head again and again.
And my foolish mind still hoped that Joshua would come looking for me. I needed answers, explanations. But I didn’t want to hear a word from his mouth.
I had switched off my phone and blocked all the mind-links. Joshua had tried contacting me several times, but I blocked him off.
“Oh, goddess…” I ran my fingers through my hair.
I looked at the sky through the dense canopy.
“Why? Why? Just why?”
Twice. I had failed twice in this battle of love. It made me wonder if I was the problem. It’s all my fault. Maybe I did something wrong. Maybe I am not good enough.
“Fuck! What am I even thinking?”
My mind wasn’t working, my body was cold, and I had never felt as lonely as I felt at that moment.
The leaves rustled and through the parting and uniting canopy I looked at the full moon in its complete glory.
I wiped my tears off my cheeks and tried to concentrate on regulating my emotions. But before my thoughts could reach any conclusion, I felt someone’s presence in the shadows of the trees.
I pulled out the gun that was strapped around my thighs and slowly backed away.
Twigs cracked, and the dry leaves crushed beneath my heels.
Whoever lurked in the darkness had hidden their scent and presence. I knew I was surrounded by a group, but I couldn’t tell if they were werewolves or… lycans…
Black-robed men with long hoods hiding their faces emerged from behind the screen of the trees.
Could this be an attack?
I looked towards the Spring palace. Joshua. I knew I had to mind-link him and alert him, but I hesitated.
The men slowly came closer to me. I pointed my gun at them.
“Stop coming closer and identify yourselves!” I glared at them.
An ambush? Did Jax warn me about this?
The one in the middle lifted his hands to his shoulders, gesturing he meant no harm.
All of them bowed slightly.
I lowered my gun.
“What do you want—”
Sound of flashes and clicks caught my attention as if someone was clicking pictures.
I lifted my gun at the central man, but before I could say or do something, all of them vanished in the darkness of the woods again.
I instantly removed my block of the mind-links.
‘Carys, where the fuck are you?’ I could feel the panic in Jax’s words. ‘If you aren’t in the palace, then run away. Run far away—’
His mind-link was cut off abruptly.
[Carys]I ran back to the Spring palace.Sneaking into the hallways, I watched from the shadows.‘Where are you?’ Joshua mind-linked me. ‘Please reply to me, Carys. Please!’I didn’t reply. There was a crowd in the party hall.Edith sat in the middle of the crowd weeping. Joshua sat beside her as a doctor tended to her wound. What the hell happened here?“I still can’t believe this. Beta Carys is the traitor?” Carter, beta of the Summer pack, said.“Well, we kind of knew that someone among us was leaking our intel to the lycans. It makes sense that beta Carys is working with them given her past—” Elijah Helios, alpha of the Summer pack, said.“Alpha Elijah, let’s not come to a conclusion without proper investigation. You are talking about my beta,” Joshua said, glaring at him. “Beta Carys has always proved her loyalty to us and our pack. We can’t judge her based on a mistake she made in her teens.”Elijah scoffed, “oh really? So where is she? When the lycans attacked, she should be he
[Carys]“I have requested an All Alpha meeting regarding beta Carys’ case.” Dominic said.“What? An All Alpha meeting? It means the lycan alphas will be there as well.” Joshua said.“Yes, that’s what All Alpha meetings are,” Dominic said.“But, All Alpha meetings haven’t been held in decades,” Joshua countered.“Because something like this hasn’t happened in decades. A high rank has never betrayed our packs. I am very well aware that I can’t arrest or punish your beta, but I can’t leave it on you to decide her punishment, either. Given your attachment with her over all these years, I am afraid you are incapable of serving justice. Therefore, I will leave the justice in the hands of All Alpha Court (AAC). It’s my sister that beta Carys has hurt. I cannot let this slide. And if you truly wish to marry my sister, you will cooperate with me,” Dominic said in a commanding voice. As far as I knew Dominic, he was the strongest of all the three pure werewolf alphas and stronger was his resolv
[Carys]He was about to kiss me when I looked away and pulled myself out of his trap.“I don’t regret loving you because I gave you every part of me. I loved you the best way I could, with my utmost sincerity and loyalty. There’s nothing more I could have done to make you stay or love me, only me. Being loyal and not being loyal is a choice, and you have made your choice. There’s no going back,” I said.“I am loyal to you!” He growled, and I flinched. Suppressing his rage, he forced a smile. “Carys,” Joshua made me face him, grabbing my shoulders in a painful grip. His gaze darkened. My chest heaved faster and faster as he slammed me against the wall. “I couldn’t resist my mate, but you couldn’t either. If there’s anyone who can understand me in this situation. It’s you. So why are you…”“I understand you, Joshua. I do. You know me. Don’t you? If you truly loved me or even respected whatever we had for ten years, you would have come to me and had a clear break up before you slept with
[Carys] The impending All Alpha meeting was a week away. I prepared what I could from the confinement of four walls for my defense during that period. Everyone who attended the party or was present during the attack in the Spring palace stayed in the Spring pack. The only person who would hear me and could help me in that critical situation was Alpha Dominic. During this time, my respect for Dominic grew even more. He was enraged because his sister was hurt, but he handled the situation in the most rational manner. He heard my side of the story. I told him someone was trying to frame me, but I didn’t tell him it was Edith. “If you can show me the proof, I will have no option but to trust you,” Dominic said. “But as of now, every proof is against you.” “I understand. Did you find the one who was spying on me in the woods?” I asked. Dominic’s composed expressions turned pensive. “Actually…” “You couldn’t find him? You just found his phone?” I asked. Dominic looked outside the w
[Carys]The All Alpha Court convened as everyone prepared for the meeting.“The meeting is private and will be recorded,” announced Liam Harrison, the beta of the Alpha king. “All attendees must maintain confidentiality. The Percy Spring pack’s Alpha, Dominic Percy, has called for this meeting to address concerns regarding the Nightfall Autumn pack’s beta, Carys Elffire. According to the terms of the All Alpha Court, all alphas from the three werewolf packs are in attendance. Two alphas from the lycan packs are also here. We have the required quorum to commence the meeting in ten minutes.”In this world, existed three werewolf packs and three lycan packs, each of which was led by an alpha. However, there was an independent body called the All Alpha Court (AAC), responsible for monitoring the alphas, betas, and gammas of all the packs. The AAC headquarters was located in an apolitical area known as the Neutral zone. This zone was completely free from political influences. However, majo
[Carys]I peered at Joshua blankly.I knew why he said that. I knew it was best for us to bury the relationship we had never revealed to the world. Revealing it now would only make things worse. Even with all those reasons, an unfathomable ache stung my heart.Holding back my tears, I nodded.“People often mistake friendship between a man and a woman. It’s nothing new,” I said, holding Joshua’s gaze. Swallowing the tight emotions lumping in my throat, I forced a smile. “But I am at fault for overstepping my boundaries. I should have known. I should have been more cautious. As for love…”I broke into laughter.“Please pardon me, Alpha king. But love is the most absurd word in this world — the greatest mockery in life. Only fools would fall for such a delusion and I am… no fool,” I said.I had been foolish to seek love in others when it never truly existed — not in this world — not in the men I loved. It was nowhere, no more. Not even in my heart.Uncomfortable silence settled in the h
[Carys] The guard knocked at the door. “Pardon me, beta, but the meeting is about to begin in ten minutes.” Sniffling, I wiped off my tears. Splashing water on my face, I got myself together. The world doesn’t have to know how it was breaking me. Even if I go down today, I will not let my enemies have the satisfaction of seeing me shatter. I took a deep breath and headed back towards the hall. Thankfully, I didn’t encounter Joshua or Edith on the way. Anxiety churned in the stomach as I stepped closer to the hall. I knew what was coming for me and I wasn’t ready for it. My position as beta had been the only thing keeping me sane in my life. To work for others, to tend to my pack. This position had kept me busy and away from the memories that could have turned my life darker. It gave me a sense of purpose and a reason to live. I had been brought up to be a beta. I didn’t know what I’d do if they took it away from me. I stopped before entering the hall and I could hear the Alpha’s
[Carys]Edith’s face nearly broke into a bright, victorious smile, but she managed to mask it with a subtle smirk in her eyes.A satisfactory smile appeared on Christian’s face that he didn’t even bother hiding.Joshua let out an exasperated sigh, tensed.“Until we resolve this case, Alpha Joshua must officially relieve Carys Elffire of her beta duties and select a new beta for his pack. AAC can provide him with a new beta, or he can choose one independently. Whether to keep or temporarily expel beta Carys from the Autumn pack will entirely depend on Alpha Joshua. The only condition is that a guard from AAC will remain with Carys Elffire at all times. If she’s expelled, Carys Elffire will have to stay in the Neutral Zone until the case concludes.” Liam read aloud from his laptop, and then all eyes were on Joshua. My nails dug into my skin as I waited for his reply. My heart roared wildly in my chest until the silence hung in the hall.“I respect AAC’s decision and I am sure my beta wi

[Carys]“At the conclusion of this meeting, this is my final verdict in compliance with the vote of other alphas — the Autumn pack will not be dissolved. As proposed by the Gamma Mic of Autumn pack, the Autumn pack will be run under emergency conditions with the gamma assuming the beta’s position and upholding the pack. The rank of the alpha of the Autumn pack will remain empty until Alpha Joshua’s child is born. AAC will assist the Autumn pack at every stage of recovery.” I didn’t attend the meeting, but turns out Verity had other ways to have a peek into everything that happened in the conference hall. “Edith Percy Nightfall’s punishment will be postponed until and after the heir of the Autumn pack reaches the age of five. She will be convicted like everyone else who was responsible for the Blank Space incident. Until then, she’ll remain under AAC’s surveillance.” I let out a sigh. “As per Alpha Dominic’s request, the Spring pack will monitor and take care of Edith Percy Nightfal
[Carys]Hoot!Snow White perched herself on Kian’s chest.“Kian’s soul has sustained severe injuries, Carys,” Moratia said. “It will take years for him to recover. The Bond that remains in his soul will help in his recovery. Keep Snow White close to him. She’ll help feed him the spiritual energy he needs through this mist. We are taking Mizkeal’s soul with us.”She looked at Death. Death turned his face towards Moratia and gave a slight nod.I lifted my gaze and looked at Moratia. The Ravens and crows that ripped Mizkeal’s soul away from Kian had long disappeared into the dark portal with his soul. The portal revolved behind Death’s divine yet haunting figure. His face was covered with a skull mask.He turned towards the portal and stretched out his hand towards Moratia. She glanced at me and smiled.“Thank you for everything, Carys,” she said before she turned around and looked into his eyes before placing her hand in his. They walked into the dark portal. Once their figures were e
[Carys]Moratia slowly looked around to see Alpha King and Liam standing near the borders with their army. After all the destruction Mizkeal caused, it was only logical for him to take things in his hand.Levi stood beside them, staring at us. I could tell by the look on his face that he tried his best to hold Alpha King back, but couldn’t. The same look was on Verity’s face.Verity tried to run towards us when Alpha King ordered one of his soldiers to take her away from the battlefield.Nox stood with the other members of the SW, looking frantically around the battlefield. He was clearly looking for Morana.Morana and Christian had fallen into the mist together, but I hadn’t seen them after that. I could only hope that they were ok.Dominic and Ash walked through the crowd of soldiers to the front-lines, taking in the situation.Of course, all of them felt the horror of Mizkeal’s wrath.“Brother!” My eyelids fluttered towards Aamna as she tried to cross the borders and come to our si
[Carys]I could feel everything Moratia felt. All the centuries of life, love and death flashed in her soul. Her soul was elated to see Mizkeal again, and the way he recognized her again filled her with hope, but it didn’t take long to shatter. Somewhere in him, she yearned to find the man she fell in love with. The prince who taught her how to live. But neither was Mizkeal the same, nor was his love for her. The pure love that a fae price once had for her had turned into a madness of a fae lord. He loved her, yes. But in a constant fear of losing her and that kind of love leads to desperation. And that desperation had blinded Mizkeal.I could actually understand the reason behind his desperation because I was desperate, too. I was desperate to save Kian, bring him back, and I was ready to do anything that could make that possible.Marrying him or not marrying him would depend on Moratia. And I knew whatever she chose would affect me significantly, so I had to brace myself for whateve
[Mizkeal]I didn’t care what happened inside me. I used every ounce of my soul for this last attack. The world could end at its own accord, but…I shifted my glare at Carys. To end her was my right.Peering at me, she got to her feet. Holding my gaze, she stood calmly amidst the exploding ground around her. She licked her lips before taking a deep breath. She smiled gently and shut her eyes, allowing the tears welled in her eyes to trail down her beautiful face.I landed on the ground. Dust and debris of the ground blasted all around us as I strutted towards her.I grabbed her wrist and yanked her closer, barely holding back my rage. The chimes of her crown jingled louder than the exploding earth, sending goosebumps all over my body.“Open your eyes…” I commanded in a slightly shivering tone.I grabbed her upper arms tighter.“Open your eyes!” I snarled at her.She shook her head, her lips trembling as she took in a shuddering breath through her tears.“Carys!”“You know my name, my p
[Mizkeal]Christian held back his groan, gritting his teeth as he glared at me with bloodshot eyes.“Why is everyone so stubborn here?” I sighed. “Well, pain is a choice, and you chose not to show it. I respect that.”“Shove that respect up your ancient ass and get out of my best friend’s body,” he growled, glaring right into my eyes.I chuckled wryly. “You have a strange sense of humor. How does it feel to be in that head of yours, to have a tongue sharper than your claws? There is no real damage you can do to me.”Christian laughed obnoxiously. “That’s the stupidest thing I have ever heard.”“Oh! Have you ever heard yourself?” I taunted back.Morana let out a titter with a smirk spread across her lips.I shifted my gaze to Morana, whose calculative eyes analyzed me.She was the one important to me, but I was still not sure if I could absorb my heart and Bond without damaging them both in the process.I couldn’t risk absorbing Bond while she had my heart because then… it could damage
[Mizkeal]As I soared towards the sky, a wave of raging adrenaline pumped through my veins, pounding in my ears.Carys Elffire was playing a dangerous game. She split the Bond in two parts! How the hell did she split it apart? But what I failed to understand was how she got a hold on Bond so quickly. A day ago, she couldn’t even keep its power in control and now she had split it in two?But what I wanted to know was how far she had decoded Bond and its abilities.Bond was far more powerful than before. New elements were added into Bond and I hadn’t had enough time to decipher all of them, either. So, it was important for me to know how much she had deciphered it or altered it.With a swift blow of my mana, I created a squall that tore the mist apart for a few seconds. It gave me enough time to escape. The mist swirled around me, playing with my head, bringing out the memories that were impossible for me to resist or ignore. Despite my efforts, echoes of Moratia’s voice haunted me, blu
[Carys]Parting from Mizkeal, I held his hands in mine. His calculative silver eyes narrowed on our hands before he looked into my eyes, as though he could see my soul.“I know what you are thinking. But I am not here for you,” I said, holding his gaze. “I’m here for Kian because I cannot lose him.”He smirked faintly, his eyes calling me out for being delusional.“If Kian lives on in you, as you… then I agree to that fate,” I said, looking into his eyes. “If his soul is merged in yours, then I’ll love his torn soul through you. If you go beyond that border, Alpha King will do everything in his power to stop you. He will kill my Kian and… I can’t let that happen. So, I’ve stopped them. I lied to them. I told them I can… stop you. But I know I can’t.”Mizkeal narrowed his eyes.“You’ve been madly in love, Mizkeal, with a woman. So, I know you understand my desperation, and this might be the stupidest decision I make for this world, but keeping you safe is the only way I can ensure Kian
