Noah leaned with his arms crossed against Hayami's office door as he watched her, intently typing on her computer.
"What happened?"
Hayami asked, stopping typing to look at him when she sensed the man's presence.
"You'll be here today, right?"
"I should. Although I don't agree, I'm sure she doesn't want to be; she's been acting strange these past few days."
"She's too old to make her own decisions; you shouldn't interfere with them."
Hayami looked at him with displeasure as he continued to lean against the door.
"That's why I hate this "rich" society."
Hayami continued typing on her computer; he just continued to watch her. His expression had changed to an annoyed one; he didn't understand why a simple question could have ruined her day.
"Are you bringing your boyfriend?"
"Who?"
She asked again, still looking at him with apparent annoyance.
"That boyfriend you mentioned that time."
"Ah... He's not my boyfriend, he's a guy I'm dating, nothing special. To answer your question, I won't take him."
"Hmm."
Noah turned around and left Hayami's office without even saying goodbye, which didn't bother her and she continued with her work.
Hayami arrived home, went up to her room, lay down for a moment before going back downstairs to find Noah, her parents, and her sister sitting in the living room.
She looked at everyone, especially Isabel, who was a little lost in thought. She knew something was bothering her. She sat down on her left side and then took her hand. That's when Isabel came back to herself, looking at her and smiling.
Noah sighed, gathering strength, and took a small black box out of his jacket. When he opened it, there was a very elegant ring.
"I know I should have given it to you sooner. I know we're a couple of weeks away from the wedding, but... Well, the important thing is that I do it now, right?"
He took the ring out of the box and held Isabel's hand. She looked up at him, a tear running down her cheek. He was about to place that beautiful ring on her.
"I'm sorry, Noah, I can't marry you... I... I'm pregnant."
Noah looked at her in confusion; however, he quickly understood what was happening.
Hayami was still bewildered, but she couldn't hide her happiness that the wedding wasn't happening. She had a smile on her face, which her father noticed.
"Why are you happy, Hayami?"
Her father asked, annoyed.
"Why shouldn't my sister get married? Besides, I'm going to be an aunt!"
Isabel got up from her seat as they stared at her and quickly went upstairs to lock herself in her room.
The girls' parents exchanged glances, and Noah looked at Hayami.
"What? No, no, don't look at me."
"Well, you're single, aren't you?"
Hayami burst into laughter, unable to believe he was thinking about her. She stood up from her chair.
"I'm not for sale, dear 'boss'; no one can buy me, so I worked hard to have my own money and escape these absurd customs."
Hayami left the living room without another word, went up to her room, and locked herself in as well.
Isabel was lying on her bed; she heard someone knock on her door.
"I don't want to talk now, Yami."
"It's me, Noah."
She got up from her bed, opened the door, and he came in and sat down. Isabel closed the door again and approached him, sitting next to him.
"I'm so sorry."
Her tears fell incessantly.
"Don't worry."
He smiled gently, wiping her tears away with his thumbs.
"We had an agreement, and I broke it. I let you down."
"Isabel, first and foremost we are friends, and when we talked about this, we said we would always be, remember? I can keep my end of the deal if you want, even if we don't get married, just like I told you before."
He held Isabel's soft hands.
"No, how do you think? It was a deal, the three of us had talked about it beforehand..."
"I know, but I hate seeing you like this, blaming yourself."
"You're a good friend. I also know how important it was to get married; I didn't see this coming."
He just smiled.
"So... What does he think? Does he already know?"
She tilted her head.
"Yes, well, it was a surprise too; however, he's happy. You know he wasn't so keen on the wedding, but I insisted, leaving him no choice."
"I'm glad because, otherwise, he'd have to deal with me, he knows that well; I'll talk to him in a few days."
"And now what will you do?"
Isabel was worried about the agreement she had with Noah.
He smiled at her.
"There are two single girls in the family, right?"
Isabel, who had been crying until then, began to laugh.
"Are you talking about Hayami?"
"Well, she's not a bad option."
He shrugged, joking.
"No, no, with her it's a lost cause; she doesn't like that kind of agreement."
I continued laughing.
"Do you like my sister?"
Isabel asked, raising her eyebrow.
"No!"
He answered, slightly blushing, though he didn't understand why.
"You'll have to find another option; she won't accept it."
"She said something downstairs about having her own money to avoid this kind of thing. What did she mean?"
Isabel sighed and finished wiping away her tears.
"Our grandmother left us each a sum before she passed away; I didn't think twice and spent it like a fool, but she worked it until she made a fortune. She has a lot of money, I might even say more than our parents."
Isabel was hesitant to continue the story, but she was already working on it.
"Many years ago, she was madly in love with a boy. She loved him madly, but he wasn't in our financial position. She wanted to marry him, so she begged and pleaded with my father to let her marry him." What I learned was that she even knelt before him to be allowed to do so. My father always planned for us to marry wealthy people. Strangely, he agreed to Hayami's request, which made her very happy, and began wedding preparations. But two days before the wedding, while reading a newspaper, she saw that a social wedding would be held that day. She died upon seeing the groom's photo, since it was hers. She ran to the church where the wedding would be held... She saw him marry that girl; she was richer than Hayami. She felt very ill, tore her dress, and locked herself away for days; one day she emerged from it as if nothing had happened. Shortly after, our grandmother passed away and left us her money. That's why she hates these kinds of weddings, because money took away the man she loved.
Noah had listened attentively to Isabel's story, thinking about how anyone could do something as horrible as that, especially to a woman like her...
Night had completely fallen; there was silence in the house. Hayami was lying in her room. After sighing, she got up, thinking she had given her sister enough time to calm down and explain what had happened, since she didn't understand anything. She left her room and went to Isabel's. She didn't knock, just opened the door, looking at Isabel sitting at her vanity, combing the hair she inherited from her father."What happened? I don't understand."Isabel exhaled, put the brush on the vanity, and looked at Hayami with her black eyes, puffy from crying so much. Hayami noticed that detail."Are you in love?"She blurted out the first question that had come to mind. She smiled."Yes, very much in love.""It's... with... Noah?"She asked, hesitant. She had thought it wasn't like that, but seeing her sister's swollen eyes made her doubt it."No. It's the father of this baby.""That's what I don't understand, explain it to me."She sat down on the bed."I'm in love with another man named Hug
Hayami arrived at the office very punctually, as she did every morning. Ariel looked at her with displeasure, but despite that, Hayami greeted her politely. After receiving a reluctant "good morning" from Ariel, she approached Angélica, who was already at her post."Good morning, Miss."Angélica said as she fixed a strand of hair."Good morning, "Angie." Is there anything I need to do?"No, Miss.""Okay, then do me two favors: first, could you get me a latte from the cafeteria? And second, could you connect me with my accountant?""Yes, Miss. I'll get your coffee now, and as soon as I get back, I'll put you in touch with your accountant.""Thank you, you're very nice."Hayami smiled; Angélica did too, a little blushing. Her boss smiled at her every morning; She was very happy to work with her.Hayami entered her office, looked out her window at the slightly cloudy sky, and thought that day wasn't the best she'd seen since arriving from Canada. Angélica asked permission to enter and, u
Isabel was sitting next to her sister in that restaurant. She was nervous because she would see Hugo after five weeks of not seeing him, but her nervousness stemmed more from the fact that Hayami would meet him. She was afraid of what her sister would think of him. In the past, things hadn't gone well for her with a man of Hugo's same status. She knew the history between her sister and that man, but she also understood there were things she didn't know about. She really didn't know what her sister thought. She had dated several men in those ten years, but they never lasted. It always broke their hearts, although she said it wasn't intentional, just that she couldn't be with someone she didn't love.Hugo and Noah entered the restaurant where the two girls were waiting for him. Noah had arranged for Hayami to meet him. Hayami looked at him, noticing he was a boy with black hair, just like his eyes. He was the same height as Noah. Hayami lightly bumped Isabel's elbow with his elbow."He'
Hayami entered the club and, once inside, sat at the bar and immediately ordered a tequila. She downed it in one gulp."Give me another one, please."She asked the man tending the bar. He quickly poured her the tequila she ordered. She was about to take her drink when a blond man sat next to her, staring at her. She noticed him but ignored him."Are you coming alone?"Hayami looked at him, but signaled her hatred with a nod. She was trying to say she didn't hear him because of the music, although she was lying; she didn't want to deal with anyone tonight. He leaned closer to her."What if you're coming alone?"He almost shouted so she could hear."Uh, no! I'm here with my boyfriend, he just went to the bathroom."She jerked her thumb in the direction of the bathroom."Too bad."The blond man replied with a mischievous smile."Yeah, too bad."She responded sarcastically, faking a small smile. The guy pulled away from her, and when he did, he finally took a drink. He ordered another one
Hayami woke up feeling very lazy, and with a severe hangover, but she knew it was Monday and she had to go to the office, even though she had an important position and could skip it if she wanted. She didn't like missing work because of a night out. She got out of bed, took off the long blouse she'd slept in, and took a shower. When she got out, she dressed in a long-sleeved white shirt and a tight black skirt that fell below her knees. She put on black slippers, brushed her hair, leaving its waves loose, grabbed her sunglasses and purse, and left the room, trying not to make any noise. She didn't want to run into her sister, who would obviously attract her attention. As she left the house, she looked at the family chauffeur, approached him, and asked him to take her to the office, since her car had been left there the night before.Noah woke up with a slight headache; He wondered if it was because he'd interrupted his sleep or because he'd had to put up with a drunken Hayami. He cont
Ariel told Noah that the taxi was waiting downstairs. Upon hearing this, he got up from his seat, grabbing Hayami's car keys, which he had left on his desk that morning, though she hadn't asked for them."Surely she doesn't remember, so she forgets everything."He said, a little annoyed, as he tucked the keys into his pants. Noah left the office and saw Ariel looking at him, indeed, with some compliment, but he just smiled at her before entering the elevator. As he went down and left the office, just as Ariel had told him, the taxi was waiting. As he got in, Noah gave the address of the place where he had picked up Hayami the night before. After a few minutes of driving, Noah arrived at Hayami's car. He got out of the taxi, paid for her ride, walked over to Hayami's car, and put the keys in. As he opened the car, he smelled her scent. Apparently, he liked the scent of perfume, but it was always a soft aroma, not at all overpowering. He sighed, got into the car, and, starting it, heade
Hayami arrived home and, upon entering, quickly ran upstairs. Isabel, who was reading a book in the living room, watched her walk past quickly before hearing her bedroom door slam shut. Isabel left her book on the sofa and went up to Hayami's room. After knocking and getting no response, she opened the door, seeing her sister lying on the bed with her forearm covering her closed eyes, biting her lower lip."Did something happen at the office?"Hayami didn't answer."What happened, Hayami?"Isabel asked worriedly when Hayami didn't answer.Hayami took her hand from her face and looked at Isabel, who was standing in front of her."What's wrong? ... That life hates me, that simple, that my heart is a traitor for beating for someone who destroyed it without remorse, without consideration, that fate is playing tricks on me, first making me have something with Noah, and now this.""I don't understand.""Ivan arrived at the office today."Isabel's face grew more concerned when she learned wh
Noah got out of his car and sighed, knowing Isabel was waiting for him. When he knocked on the door, the employee opened it, leading him into the living room where Isabel was waiting."Hmm...""What do you mean, he's your friend?!"Isabel immediately questioned him without even letting him say hello. He touched his forehead as he looked down."He's an old college classmate; I didn't know he was your sister's ex.""The ex-idiot who made her look like a coward.""Well, whatever, you never told me his name."Noah approached her, taking a seat next to Isabel."I know, excuse me, I never thought in this big world you two would know each other.""How's your sister? I heard she left the company early.""Not just the company, but the house too."He sighed deeply."Knowing her, I know where she is or what she's doing.""Hey! I didn't know your sister was a natural redhead; I thought she dyed her hair, if her skin tone is lighter, but I thought it was because she only spends her time locked up
"Do you like them?""Of course I do, love, they're beautiful!"The blonde girl responded excitedly, looking at the wedding rings."I know they're not very expensive, but...""That doesn't matter. The important thing is that we'll love each other forever."She hugged him, giving him a tender, innocent kiss..."Is anyone there?"She waved Noah's hand in front of Hayami, who looked lost while holding some rings."Of course I'm here. Can't you see me?"She replied, annoyed. In the last few days, after Ivan's arrival, her memories returned like weapons that didn't pierce her heart, but rather her pride, which made her feel stupid."How do you see these?"Noah asked, having no idea what was going through her mind."Yes, I think they're fine, they're very pretty... Hey, by the way, what did you do with the engagement ring you were going to give my sister?""I saved it, why? Do you want it? If so, I can give it to you."She pressed her septum with her fingers."You're immature, have they told
Hugo stood before Isabel's father, who looked at him very annoyed."Sir, I will marry your daughter.""I have no choice but to accept it."The imposing man replied, but he was looking at his eldest daughter.Isabel took Hugo's hand."Hayami told me it will be in a month, right?"Jazmín asked calmly."That's right, Mom."Isabel replied fearfully."And where will the wedding be?"The man sitting with his arms crossed asked again."If I may give my opinion... All the preparations for my wedding with your daughter were almost ready, so you can get married with all those arrangements, no problem."Noah, sitting next to Hayami, commented. Isabel had asked him to be at that meeting for Hugo, because she was afraid for her father."That's fine, since I won't put a single peso into that wedding."The girls' father said, getting up from his seat and leaving.Hayami smiled at the others' awkward expressions."Well, sister, we have to finish some wedding matters. Don't pay attention to Dad, he'll
