View MoreRaven’s back slammed against the wooden chair as Alpha Boris loomed over her, his fingers digging into her jaw with bruising force. The pack’s kitchen smelled of roasted meat and fresh bread, but all she could taste was bile as he forced her head back.
“No! I don’t want it!” she snarled, her voice hoarse from days of forced obedience.
“Stop fighting, damn it!” Boris barked, his golden eyes flashing with irritation. “You should be used to this by now.”
Behind her, Nema twisted Raven’s arms behind her back, her nails biting into her skin. “Just give up,” she purred, her breath warm against Raven’s ear. “You’re never going to win.”
It was the same thing every day. The same torment that had been forced upon her since she was young. Boris’s father had taken her, slaughtered her guardians, and turned her into nothing more than a slave. And now, his son continued the cycle, keeping her weak with wolfsbane.
“Open your damn mouth.”
“Go to hell, Boris,” she spat.
The slap came hard and fast, the impact ringing in her ears. Stars burst behind her eyes as her head snapped to the side, but she barely had time to register the pain before Boris fisted a hand in her hair, yanking her head back.
“You think you have a choice?” His voice was dangerously low, filled with a sick pleasure as he forced the bitter wolfsbane past her lips.
Raven choked, coughing as the poison burned its way down her throat. Every muscle in her body stiffened as the familiar sensation of weakness spread through her limbs.
Nema laughed, tilting her head mockingly. “How does it taste, gutter trash?”
And then, something happened.
A jolt of energy surged through her, slamming into her chest like a force of nature. The world around her blurred, the pain, the poison, all fading into the background as her gaze locked onto Boris.
Mate.
The word whispered in her mind, soft yet deafening. Her heart pounded violently against her ribs. No. No, no, no!
Boris stiffened, his body rigid, his breathing uneven. He felt it too.
“What?” he whispered, his voice laced with disbelief.
Raven swallowed hard, nausea rolling through her. This couldn’t be happening. He couldn’t be her mate. The moon goddess couldn’t be so cruel.
Boris’s shock was short-lived. His face twisted into rage, his grip tightening painfully.
“Reject the mate bond!” he roared, his voice shaking the walls. “Reject it now, or I swear I’ll have you gutted where you sit!”
The pain in her chest was suffocating, but not from his grip. It was the mate bond, pulling at her, urging her to submit. But she would never submit to him.
With steady breath, Raven lifted her chin, her voice unwavering despite the agony tearing through her.
“I, Raven, reject the mate bond.” The words felt like glass in her throat, but she forced them out. “I would never want to be with someone as evil as you.”
Boris’s nostrils flared, his rage palpable. “I would never want to be with a freak.” His lip curled in disgust. “You don’t even smell like a real wolf.”
He stepped closer, his energy radiating hostility.
“I forever reject you.”
Agony ripped through her like claws tearing through her soul. A sharp, guttural cry escaped her lips as the bond snapped, leaving behind a gaping, searing wound in its place. Across from her, Boris groaned, his own body trembling from the pain.
And then, just as quickly as it came, it was over.
Boris staggered back, his breathing heavy. He turned on his heel and limped out of the room.
“No…” Nema’s voice was barely a whisper, her face frozen in shock. “No, you couldn’t have been the Alpha’s mate.” Her chest rose and fell rapidly, panic overtaking her features. “You’re just a dirty slave!”
Raven wiped the blood from her lip and met Nema’s wild eyes with steel. “I’m not dirty,” she said, voice raw but firm. “I’m good enough to be anyone’s mate. And the moon goddess obviously thought I was good enough for Boris.”
Nema’s scream of rage echoed through the kitchen as her claws extended.
The first strike sent Raven sprawling to the ground.
The second drew blood.
She curled in on herself, shielding her head as Nema’s attacks rained down. Raven wanted to fight back. She was a strong wolf, but the wolfsbane kept her muscles sluggish.
“Nema, stop…”
Another strike. Another kick to the ribs. Her world blurred between pain and exhaustion, her breaths coming in short and ragged gasps.
Finally, Nema pulled back, her eyes burning with fury. “You are never to look at Alpha Boris again,” she hissed. “If I catch you, I’ll claw your eyes out.”
With one final glare, she stormed out of the kitchen, her footsteps echoing through the empty halls.
One by one, the other wolves followed.
Raven laid there, her body bruised, her heart aching from the fresh rejection. Her plan had been to test her escape route tonight.
She moved quickly through the dark, her heart racing. A few months ago, she had discovered secret tunnels while cleaning. One of them led outside the pack’s borders, past Boris’ territory.
She reached the tunnel entrance, hidden beneath the old storage shed. With one last look behind her, she slipped inside. The air was damp, the walls cold as she crouched and moved forward. If anyone caught her now, she was as good as dead.
“Next week, when the summer solstice comes, I’ll do the moon ceremony to reject Alpha Boris as my alpha. Then I’ll leave for good.”
Without it, his Alpha command would still control her, pulling her back no matter how far she ran.
After what felt like forever, she reached the other side and pushed open the rusted hatch.
Fresh air hit her face and she was at least free for now.
The tunnel had led her right outside a dive bar that sat on neutral ground. It was one of the only places where different wolves could drink without pack laws getting in the way.
Taking a deep breath, she pulled her hood up and stepped inside.
She looked to her side and saw a man sitting at the bar, broad shoulders relaxed, his strong arms resting on the counter. His dark hair fell just past his shoulders, framing sharp features. Even sitting down, he radiated power. He was an Alpha.
Raven quickly looked away, searching for an open seat. The only one available was right next to him.
She had no choice, so she walked over and sat down.
“That’s quite a bruise on your cheek,” the man said, his deep voice cutting through the noise.
She stiffened. “It looks worse than it is.”
“I don’t think so.” His sharp gaze studied her. “I know how hard someone has to hit to leave a mark like that.”
His words made her uneasy. It felt like he could see right through her.
“You’re an Alpha,” she murmured.
He didn’t deny it, just shrugged. “You’re the only wolf I’ve ever heard say that like it’s a bad thing.”
“In my experience, Alphas care more about physical strength than anything else.”
His eyes narrowed slightly, like he was both amused and annoyed.
“You may have a point,” he said. “But I wouldn’t say that out loud in most places.”
Before she could respond, the bartender walked over. His expression soured the moment he saw her.
“If you’re a slave, you can leave now,” he said bluntly. “I don’t want an Alpha coming here looking for you.”
Raven clenched her fists. “I’m not a slave,” she said. “I’m just here to rest.”
The Alpha beside her didn’t say anything, but his presence alone was intimidating enough to make the bartender back off.
Raven exhaled slowly. Then, her stomach dropped.
The scent of wolves filled the air. Not just wolves, but familiar wolves.
She turned toward the entrance, and her heart stopped.
Three men had just walked in. And they were wolves from her pack.
“Oh no. If they see me, I’m dead.”
She ducked, panic rising in her throat. Boris would lose his mind if he found out she had snuck out.
“I need to get out of here,” she whispered. “Will you stand up so I can sneak out the back?”
The Alpha followed her gaze to the men at the door. Then he looked back at her.
Without a word, he stood. His massive frame blocked her from view entirely. Then, he reached into his pocket, pulled out some cash, and tossed it on the bar.
“I’ll do you one better,” he said.
When they got outside, she had barely taken a breath of relief when, suddenly, he moved.
Before she could react, he spun her around and shoved her back against the rough brick wall of the alley.
“Who are you?” His voice was low and commanding. “Why were you running from those wolves? Are you a spy?”
“What? No!” she gasped. “I swear, I’m not a spy.”
She tried to step away, but he was faster. He planted both arms on the wall behind her, caging her in. Her pulse raced. If he was a threat, she had nowhere to go.
“I… I know those wolves,” she admitted, choosing her words carefully. “I’m not in a good situation at home, and I’m planning my escape.”
Then the door to the bar swung open. An older couple stepped out.
Before Raven could react, the Alpha moved fast, pressing closer, his body shielding hers. “Don’t move,” he murmured, his breath warm against her temple.
His scent, sandalwood and pine wrapped around her. Her fingers clenched into fists as she forced herself to stay still.
The couple passed without a glance.
As the Alpha pulled back, his sharp eyes dropped to her collarbone. His brows furrowed.
He reached out, brushing her hair aside, revealing a fresh cut. His jaw tightened.
“Come with me,” he said.
She hesitated.
“We need to talk. In private.”
Victor struggled against Damien, his desperation clear, but it was no use. With a final, furious twist, Damien spun in front of him and snapped his neck. The sound was sickening, and in the blink of an eye, Victor crumpled to the ground, lifeless.Raven’s grip on him tightened as she refused to let go, her strength unwavering, but now it was Damien pulling her into his arms. He held her close, his breath steady but tinged with regret. "Sorry, Raven, but I couldn’t listen to his poisonous words anymore."Raven met his gaze, her voice firm, and without hesitation. “Don’t be sorry. You did the right thing.”She turned to face the Alpha Council, her eyes steely with resolve as she made sure to explain herself clearly, to cut through any lingering misunderstandings. “You all misunderstand,” she began. “I am proud of my druid side. I believe druids and wolves can be allies, but druids have not proven trustworthy.”Damien’s gaze turned cold as he stared down the group of druids who had come
Levi led the way outside, the open field sprawling before them as the tension thickened in the air. Raven and Damien followed closely behind, their every step measured, anticipation heavy in the atmosphere.Raven’s voice broke the silence, her eyes darting between Damien and Victor. “Are you sure about this?” she asked, a note of concern creeping into her voice.Damien’s gaze was unwavering as he nodded. “I’m positive. This is the only way I can get Victor to let this go,” he said, his tone firm.He stopped abruptly, pulling Raven aside with a gentle but commanding touch. His eyes locked onto hers, searching, as if trying to read her thoughts before he spoke. “I know I will win today,” he said, his voice steady, but the fire behind it unmistakable.Raven offered him a reassuring smile. “I know you will too. I love you.”Damien’s lips curved into a smile in return, and he whispered the same words back to her, his voice full of emotion. Then, without warning, he leaned down and captured
Victor stepped forward, his stance challenging, as though daring Damien to make a move. His eyes glinted with a cold determination, ready for a fight. Damien, fueled by anger, took a step toward Victor, but Raven, acting swiftly, stepped between the two of them. With the strength of her powers, she pushed them apart. It was no small feat—she was strong enough to move both men, who were much larger than her. They stepped back reluctantly, though Damien’s fury was still palpable."Calm down, both of you," Raven said, her voice firm and commanding. "Let’s try to talk this out first."Damien snarled, his voice low and threatening. "There’s nothing to discuss. Raven is my wife. We’ve been legally married, and we have children together."Victor's lips curled into a slight smirk. "I don't mind if she brings the kids," he said, his tone dripping with arrogance.Damien’s restraint snapped. He lunged toward Victor, but Raven and Lucas grabbed hold of him, pulling him back."I’ll kill you," Dami
Damien stood tall as they walked further into the hall, Damien spoke quietly, his voice low enough for only her to hear."I know Alpha Lucas," he said, glancing over at the man who had stepped forward to greet them. "I consider him an ally."Raven raised an eyebrow. "Do you trust him?"Damien’s gaze darkened slightly. "I do, but keep your guard up. Just because he's on our side doesn’t mean anyone else is."Before Raven could respond, Alpha Lucas approached them. He was a large man with a commanding presence, his expression warm as he extended his hand to Damien."Alpha Damien, thanks for coming on such short notice," Alpha Lucas said, his tone respectful but filled with urgency.Damien returned the handshake, but his voice was stern. "Alpha Lucas, I'm not happy to have been rushed here like this. Especially with the druids involved."Alpha Lucas glanced at Raven, his eyes widening slightly with awe. Without another word, he dropped to one knee and bowed low, his respect palpable."Go
Two hours later, Raven sat in the passenger seat of Damien’s SUV as he drove through the woods, one hand on the wheel and the other resting possessively on her thigh. They had left pack territory nearly twenty minutes ago, heading deep into neutral land where there were no patrols, no eyes, no responsibilities, just the two of them and the heat simmering beneath the surface. His fingers stroked her bare thigh slowly, back and forth. His palm lingered near the hem of her loose summer dress, knuckles grazing higher now and then like he didn’t even realize what he was doing.“You always get this quiet when we’re alone,” Raven teased, glancing at him sideways. “Trying to behave?”He didn’t look at her, just smirked, his hand tightening slightly. “Trying not to pull over and fuck you against a tree, actually.”Her lips curled into a slow smile. “Is that right?”Damien’s hand stilled, then moved away entirely, returning to the wheel.Raven raised a brow. “Backing off already? That’s not lik
Later that evening, Raven and Damien entered the wedding hall, the grand space bathed in warm, golden light. The scent of fresh flowers filled the air, and the tables were adorned with elegant centerpieces that glittered under the soft glow of chandeliers. "Wow, it’s so beautiful," Raven said, her eyes wide as she took in the stunning decor.Damien smiled, his gaze sweeping over the scene. "It is. And I’m glad Dominic is finally settling down. He needs someone calm like Miranda to balance him out."Raven nodded, her eyes shifting to Dominic, who stood near the front with a calm but content expression. "Oh, I agree. He’s seemed so at peace these past few months. It’s good for him," she said with a soft smile. They made their way toward Dominic, and Damien stood next to him, a proud look on his face as they watched Miranda walk down the aisle. Raven stood beside them just as Miranda reached the front. A smile tugged at her lips when she saw Jasper and Cora walking with Miranda, the two
Five months had passed since Raven had given birth to their son, and Damien had brought her, along with Cora and Jasper, to the Goddess Realm for the birth. Alex, their newborn, lay peacefully in a bassinet by the bed, his small chest rising and falling with every soft breath. The serene atmosphere of the realm was a stark contrast to the hectic energy of their everyday lives, but Raven knew it had been the right choice. Being here made her feel stronger, more connected to her powers, more like the moon goddess she was destined to be.Damien sat beside her, looking down at their son with a proud smile. “We go back to the human realm today,” he said, breaking the quiet moment. “I’ve enjoyed this week here with you, but I’ll admit, I’m ready to get back to the pack house.”Raven stretched out beside him, her hand gently brushing the soft curls of Alex’s head. “Me too. I miss having dinner with the pack and just... relaxing with everyone.”Damien leaned back in his chair and sighed. “I k
They walked in comfortable silence until they reached the moon goddess tree, the bark ever glowing faintly under the celestial light.Raven glanced at Damien, curiosity stirring in her chest. “What are we doing here?” she asked, her voice soft with wonder. He turned to face her, his expression solemn but full of love. “I brought you here because this place is sacred to you,” he said. “And because I want you to know something important. I love you exactly as you are, Raven. I don’t ever want to change you. You were born to be the moon goddess, and if that’s the path you choose, then I want to be there for every step of it. Every second.”Her eyes widened slightly, emotions rising like a tide behind her ribs. “If I stay the moon goddess,” she said slowly, “would that make you... the alpha god? As my mate?”Damien grinned, that familiar cocky confidence lighting his face. “I think we can call me whatever we want,” he said, shrugging. “Since you’re the first goddess mate that anyone’s eve
The following morning, Raven and Damien walked into the dining room together. The room was filled with pack members, every seat occupied by wolves who had fought beside them, wolves who had waited anxiously for news of their Moon Goddess and Luna.As soon as they entered, the room fell silent.Miranda stood up first. “Raven, we are so glad you’re alright.”At her words, every wolf in the room pushed back their chairs and dropped to their knees. The sight was humbling; two dozen warriors, bowing their heads in reverence.Dominic stepped forward. “We are honored to have you as our Goddess. You fought bravely by our side and led us to victory. You have earned our loyalty for all eternity.”Raven felt the emotion catch in her throat. Her fingers brushed Damien’s as she took a step forward.“The honor is all mine,” she said with quiet strength. “And I’m grateful to stand here with all of you. Now, can I have the security update? I am sure a lot has changed since I've been unconscious.”Dam
