The stranger led Raven into a hotel room next to the bar. He shut the door behind them and gestured toward the bed.
“Sit.”
Raven hesitated before lowering herself onto the mattress, her muscles still tense.
He crouched in front of her, reaching for the hem of her shirt. She flinched.
His sharp gaze met hers. “If I wanted to hurt you, I would’ve done it already.”
Her throat tightened, but she forced herself to stay still.
Slowly, he lifted the fabric again. His fingers brushed against her skin, sending an unexpected shiver through her. The warmth of the cloth against her wound was oddly soothing, but his touch was what made her breath catch.
“Tell me about this escape plan of yours,” he said.
She swallowed. “When the summer solstice comes, I’m rejecting my Alpha.”
His brow lifted. “Then what? Joining a new pack?”
“No. Most packs don’t take in outsiders. And there’s no guarantee a new Alpha would be any better.”
He leaned back, tossing the cloth aside. “Could also be better.”
Raven let out a short laugh. “That’s a gamble I’m not willing to take.”
He shifted, sitting beside her on the bed, his presence solid but not suffocating. “What’s your name?”
She hesitated. “Tell me yours first.”
He smirked. “Damien.”
“Raven.”
His eyes stayed locked on hers. “You think I was looking for a spy tonight?”
She nodded. “Isn’t that why you were at the bar?”
For a moment, he just stared at her, like he was trying to figure her out. Then he finally said, “There were a few reasons I was there. Some unusual activity in my territory. My instincts told me to check it out. Then you walked in looking like hell, and I thought maybe it was an act.”
She frowned. “But you believe me now?”
His gaze dropped to the cut on her neck. “Most wolves heal fast. That wound should be gone by now.”
Her jaw clenched. “I’m not weak.”
Damien studied her, then nodded. “Your spirit isn’t. But your wolf… she’s barely there.”
Raven exhaled. “That’ll change soon.”
Something flickered in his eyes. He reached up, fingers lightly tracing the bruise on her cheek. She froze. His touch was warm, careful, like he wasn’t used to being gentle.
“The bruise doesn’t change the fact that you’re beautiful,” he murmured.
Her chest tightened. No one had ever called her that before.
Before she could stop herself, she leaned into his touch.
His fingers slid into her hair, tilting her head slightly as he pulled her closer. He moved slowly, like he was waiting for her to pull away.
She didn’t.
I don’t have a mate. This might be my only chance.
She wet her lips, and that was all the invitation he needed.
With a low growl, Damien closed the distance, his lips crashing against hers. His grip tightened, pulling her flush against him. His tongue slid past her lips, exploring, tasting, taking.
Her heart pounded. Her whole body tingled.
She had never been kissed before.
But if this was what kissing felt like, she never wanted it to stop.
*****************
Raven’s eyes drifted to the man sleeping beside her, his bare chest rising and falling steadily. There was no denying what had happened between them.
Wolves are supposed to save their virginities for their mates.
But since she didn’t have a mate anymore, did it matter? She convinced herself.
She took one last look at Damien before slipping out the door.
Moving quickly, she retraced her steps to the underground tunnel, emerging back in the packhouse just as the sun began to rise. No one seemed to notice she was gone.
As she entered the dining hall, Boris’s cold voice stopped her in her tracks.
“Raven.”
Her stomach tightened.
“We have important guests tonight. Make sure dinner is perfect, or it’ll be your head.”
She bowed her head. “Yes, Alpha.”
By evening, she was back in the dining room, carefully balancing a large pot of stew. She stepped forward, then suddenly, a foot shot out from under the table.
Her breath caught as she tripped, the pot slipping from her hands.
Hot stew splashed all over Nema.
A horrified silence filled the room.
Nema let out a furious snarl, leaping to her feet. “You little… I'll rip your throat out for this!”
Raven scrambled back, her heart hammering.
But Nema wasn’t done. A smirk curled on her lips. “Actually, the Alpha of the Shadow Moon Pack will be here any second to discuss a treaty. He killed his own mate, you know. I bet I could convince him to kill you too.”
“I… I was tripped,” Raven stammered.
“Don’t talk back to me!” Nema raised her hand, claws bared, ready to strike.
But before she could land the hit, a strong hand grabbed her wrist.
A low, deadly growl rumbled through the room.
“If you touch her, I’ll kill you.”
Raven’s breath caught.
She knew that voice was Damien’s instantly.
In one swift move, he hurled Nema over his shoulder. She crashed into the wall with a pained grunt.
Silence fell.
Damien turned to Raven, his expression unreadable. He stepped closer, his voice low enough for only her to hear.
“Raven… What the hell are you doing here? I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”
Panic surged through her.
She couldn’t say anything. If Boris found out, she would be dead.
Before he could react, she delivered a sharp, discreet kick to his shin. His brow quirked, but he stayed silent.
“What the hell is going on here?!”
Boris stormed into the room, his gaze snapping to Nema sprawled on the floor.
Damien didn’t back down. He met Boris’s glare head-on. “One of your pack members was getting out of line. She tried to strike this serving girl. I taught her some respect.”
Boris hesitated. Then, shockingly, his head bowed slightly.
“My apologies, Alpha Damien,” Boris said, voice tight. “I’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
Raven’s stomach dropped. Alpha Damien?
Her pulse raced as her eyes flicked back to him. She had slept with the Alpha of the Shadow Moon Pack?
Before Raven could process it, Nema pushed herself up. “Boris, he knows Raven! He recognized her!”Boris’s gaze sharpened. “What do you mean? How do you know our slave?”Goddess, this is bad. She whispered.Raven quickly shook her head at Damien, silently pleading with him.His eyes widened slightly before his expression hardened.Boris stepped forward, his tone demanding. “Well?”Damien didn’t even flinch. “Nothing is going on. I’ve never met her before.”Boris’s suspicious gaze flicked between them.Raven forced a steady breath. “Alpha Boris, Nema doesn’t know what she’s talking about. I’ve never met Alpha Damien before.”“Lies!” Nema snapped. “He knew your name!”Raven tilted her chin up. “Probably because the guards pointed me out when he arrived. After all, we wouldn’t want such an honored guest to go without service, would we?”Damien nodded. “She’s right. The guards told me to find her.”Nema folded her arms. “Which guard?”A beat of silence.Damien didn’t know the pack’s guard
"Now’s not the time to joke," Raven said. She couldn’t wrap her mind around what he was saying. She couldn’t be pregnant."If you connect with your inner wolf, you’ll know I’m telling the truth."She didn’t respond, just closed her eyes and tried to reach within herself. But the connection wasn’t there. The Wolfsbane had drained her wolf, leaving only faint traces. She couldn’t feel the strength she once had.Damien reached for her hand, and she felt something. The stirring inside her wasn’t just the remnants of her wolf; it was something else. Something deeper. She shook her head in disbelief. "But I can’t be... it doesn’t make sense.""You’re further along than you should be. Your body’s changing faster than it should. Most wolves don’t feel this until two weeks after conception."Raven blinked. Two weeks. She thought back to that night, but it couldn’t have been that long. She asked quietly, "How can you tell?"Damien’s eyes softened. "Your scent. I know it. It’s changed. I can sme
Boris didn’t hesitate. With a vicious snarl, he pounced on Damien, knocking him to the ground. His fists landed hard and fast, each blow fueled by rage and cruelty."You fucking coward!" Damien growled, struggling beneath him.Raven watched in horror. If Damien had been at full strength, Boris wouldn’t have stood a chance. But poisoned and weakened, he could barely fight back.Boris’s lips curled into a sickening smile as his hands wrapped around Damien’s throat, tightening with brutal force.Raven’s breath caught. "No! Boris, stop!"Damien’s gaze flicked to the side, landing on a vase sitting on a nearby table. His eyes snapped back to hers, sharp with meaning. She understood instantly. She grabbed the vase and threw it at him, but missed. Boris threw another punch, Damien let out a deep, pained groan, and something inside her snapped.Boris grabbed Damien by the collar and hurled him across the room. He crashed hard into the far wall, his body hitting the ground with a thud."Damn,"
Boris crashed into the room with the force of a wrecking ball, his hulking frame filling the doorway. His grin was monstrous, sharp teeth gleaming under the dim light, his eyes filled with nothing but malice.Damien didn’t hesitate. “I won’t let you hurt her!” he snarled, summoning every ounce of strength left in his battered body. With a powerful lunge, he slammed into Boris, sending them both hurtling into the hallway. Boris smashed against the wall with a grunt, momentarily stunned.Damien didn’t waste a second. He grabbed Raven’s wrist, yanking her out of the storeroom.“Come on!” she urged. “The tunnel is this way!”Their feet pounded against the stone floor as they raced down the corridor. The sound of boots thundering behind them told Raven that the guards were closing in fast.“We need to put some distance between us!” she panted. Then, an idea struck. Instead of sprinting ahead, she suddenly stopped, bracing herself before kicking her legs out behind her. The movement was so
Raven cradled Damien’s limp head in her hands, her fingers trembling as she pressed against the faint warmth of his skin. His breath was shallow, barely there, and every second that passed felt like it was slipping through her fingers. But despite the panic clawing at her chest, her eyes remained locked on the divine figure before her.The Moon Goddess, bathed in silvery light, radiated a presence so overwhelming that Raven struggled to find her voice. This was no hallucination, no fevered dream brought on by exhaustion. This was real."You are the key to saving our species," Chandra said, her voice soft yet filled with undeniable authority.Raven shook her head, disbelief clouding her features. "I'm nothing," she whispered. "I can’t even shift. How could I possibly save anyone?"The Goddess regarded her with an expression that was neither pitying nor impatient. Just knowing. As if she understood the doubts weighing on Raven’s heart."What do you know of the Witches of Crow?" Chandra
Raven reacted on instinct, dropping to the ground just as the witch lunged. She thrust her leg out, sweeping the enemy off her feet. The witch crashed down with a sharp grunt, her dagger clattering against the dirt. Before Raven could strike again, the Moon Goddess pulled her behind a thick tree, her expression calm but urgent. “They know my powers are limited in your realm,” she said, her voice steady despite the growing danger.Raven’s heart pounded. “They’re here to kill you!”The Goddess shook her head. “No, Raven. It is not me they are after. It is you… and your unborn daughter.”Raven stiffened, her breath catching. Instinctively, her hands moved to her stomach, protectively cradling the life growing inside her. A surge of emotion—fear, determination, something raw and ancient—flared through her. She could not let them take her child.A sudden hiss filled the air, followed by a searing heat. Another bolt of magic shot toward them, slamming into the tree beside her. The bark igni
Damien’s smirk faded just as quickly as another wave of pain crashed over him. His eyes fluttered shut, his body trembling under the poison’s hold.Raven watched Damien struggle, his body twitching in pain as he lay there helplessly. Her mind raced. I don’t know what kind of spell Goddess Chandra cast, but I’m not sure I trust it.She stared at his pale face, his clenched jaw, the sweat beading on his forehead. The Moon Goddess’s voice echoed in her mind.Raven’s heart pounded in her chest as she realized the gravity of the situation. She leaned closer to him, her lips trembling with uncertainty, but the urgency of the moment compelled her. She pressed her mouth against his, her breath shaky. The connection sparked as her powers surged through her, pulling the poison from his body. For a moment, time seemed to stand still. She felt the venom slide from his veins, into her mouth, and she forced herself to swallow it, her throat burning as she did. Damien’s body shuddered, but his pain
Damien’s voice was firm, but Raven could see past the mask he wore. His strength was still recovering, but the determination in his eyes spoke volumes. Despite the lingering poison in his veins, his presence commanded respect. His posture was unshaken, unyielding, and Raven knew he was a force to be reckoned with. The skinny rogue tilted his head, a slow, mocking grin spreading across his face. “Oh, we’ve got an alpha here,” he sneered, his voice laced with amusement. He glanced at his companions, bolstered by their numbers. “I’m shaking in my boots.”Taylor, the lone female among them, smirked, her eyes gleaming with malice. “Know what we call an alpha without a pack around here?” She leaned in slightly, voice dripping with venom. “Dinner.”Raven’s heartbeat quickened, but she didn’t flinch. The words stung, but they only served to fuel her growing resolve. The rogues stepped forward, their movements deliberate and slow, like predators closing in for the kill.Raven stood her ground,
Victor struggled against Damien, his desperation clear, but it was no use. With a final, furious twist, Damien spun in front of him and snapped his neck. The sound was sickening, and in the blink of an eye, Victor crumpled to the ground, lifeless.Raven’s grip on him tightened as she refused to let go, her strength unwavering, but now it was Damien pulling her into his arms. He held her close, his breath steady but tinged with regret. "Sorry, Raven, but I couldn’t listen to his poisonous words anymore."Raven met his gaze, her voice firm, and without hesitation. “Don’t be sorry. You did the right thing.”She turned to face the Alpha Council, her eyes steely with resolve as she made sure to explain herself clearly, to cut through any lingering misunderstandings. “You all misunderstand,” she began. “I am proud of my druid side. I believe druids and wolves can be allies, but druids have not proven trustworthy.”Damien’s gaze turned cold as he stared down the group of druids who had come
Levi led the way outside, the open field sprawling before them as the tension thickened in the air. Raven and Damien followed closely behind, their every step measured, anticipation heavy in the atmosphere.Raven’s voice broke the silence, her eyes darting between Damien and Victor. “Are you sure about this?” she asked, a note of concern creeping into her voice.Damien’s gaze was unwavering as he nodded. “I’m positive. This is the only way I can get Victor to let this go,” he said, his tone firm.He stopped abruptly, pulling Raven aside with a gentle but commanding touch. His eyes locked onto hers, searching, as if trying to read her thoughts before he spoke. “I know I will win today,” he said, his voice steady, but the fire behind it unmistakable.Raven offered him a reassuring smile. “I know you will too. I love you.”Damien’s lips curved into a smile in return, and he whispered the same words back to her, his voice full of emotion. Then, without warning, he leaned down and captured
Victor stepped forward, his stance challenging, as though daring Damien to make a move. His eyes glinted with a cold determination, ready for a fight. Damien, fueled by anger, took a step toward Victor, but Raven, acting swiftly, stepped between the two of them. With the strength of her powers, she pushed them apart. It was no small feat—she was strong enough to move both men, who were much larger than her. They stepped back reluctantly, though Damien’s fury was still palpable."Calm down, both of you," Raven said, her voice firm and commanding. "Let’s try to talk this out first."Damien snarled, his voice low and threatening. "There’s nothing to discuss. Raven is my wife. We’ve been legally married, and we have children together."Victor's lips curled into a slight smirk. "I don't mind if she brings the kids," he said, his tone dripping with arrogance.Damien’s restraint snapped. He lunged toward Victor, but Raven and Lucas grabbed hold of him, pulling him back."I’ll kill you," Dami
Damien stood tall as they walked further into the hall, Damien spoke quietly, his voice low enough for only her to hear."I know Alpha Lucas," he said, glancing over at the man who had stepped forward to greet them. "I consider him an ally."Raven raised an eyebrow. "Do you trust him?"Damien’s gaze darkened slightly. "I do, but keep your guard up. Just because he's on our side doesn’t mean anyone else is."Before Raven could respond, Alpha Lucas approached them. He was a large man with a commanding presence, his expression warm as he extended his hand to Damien."Alpha Damien, thanks for coming on such short notice," Alpha Lucas said, his tone respectful but filled with urgency.Damien returned the handshake, but his voice was stern. "Alpha Lucas, I'm not happy to have been rushed here like this. Especially with the druids involved."Alpha Lucas glanced at Raven, his eyes widening slightly with awe. Without another word, he dropped to one knee and bowed low, his respect palpable."Go
Two hours later, Raven sat in the passenger seat of Damien’s SUV as he drove through the woods, one hand on the wheel and the other resting possessively on her thigh. They had left pack territory nearly twenty minutes ago, heading deep into neutral land where there were no patrols, no eyes, no responsibilities, just the two of them and the heat simmering beneath the surface. His fingers stroked her bare thigh slowly, back and forth. His palm lingered near the hem of her loose summer dress, knuckles grazing higher now and then like he didn’t even realize what he was doing.“You always get this quiet when we’re alone,” Raven teased, glancing at him sideways. “Trying to behave?”He didn’t look at her, just smirked, his hand tightening slightly. “Trying not to pull over and fuck you against a tree, actually.”Her lips curled into a slow smile. “Is that right?”Damien’s hand stilled, then moved away entirely, returning to the wheel.Raven raised a brow. “Backing off already? That’s not lik
Later that evening, Raven and Damien entered the wedding hall, the grand space bathed in warm, golden light. The scent of fresh flowers filled the air, and the tables were adorned with elegant centerpieces that glittered under the soft glow of chandeliers. "Wow, it’s so beautiful," Raven said, her eyes wide as she took in the stunning decor.Damien smiled, his gaze sweeping over the scene. "It is. And I’m glad Dominic is finally settling down. He needs someone calm like Miranda to balance him out."Raven nodded, her eyes shifting to Dominic, who stood near the front with a calm but content expression. "Oh, I agree. He’s seemed so at peace these past few months. It’s good for him," she said with a soft smile. They made their way toward Dominic, and Damien stood next to him, a proud look on his face as they watched Miranda walk down the aisle. Raven stood beside them just as Miranda reached the front. A smile tugged at her lips when she saw Jasper and Cora walking with Miranda, the two
Five months had passed since Raven had given birth to their son, and Damien had brought her, along with Cora and Jasper, to the Goddess Realm for the birth. Alex, their newborn, lay peacefully in a bassinet by the bed, his small chest rising and falling with every soft breath. The serene atmosphere of the realm was a stark contrast to the hectic energy of their everyday lives, but Raven knew it had been the right choice. Being here made her feel stronger, more connected to her powers, more like the moon goddess she was destined to be.Damien sat beside her, looking down at their son with a proud smile. “We go back to the human realm today,” he said, breaking the quiet moment. “I’ve enjoyed this week here with you, but I’ll admit, I’m ready to get back to the pack house.”Raven stretched out beside him, her hand gently brushing the soft curls of Alex’s head. “Me too. I miss having dinner with the pack and just... relaxing with everyone.”Damien leaned back in his chair and sighed. “I k
They walked in comfortable silence until they reached the moon goddess tree, the bark ever glowing faintly under the celestial light.Raven glanced at Damien, curiosity stirring in her chest. “What are we doing here?” she asked, her voice soft with wonder. He turned to face her, his expression solemn but full of love. “I brought you here because this place is sacred to you,” he said. “And because I want you to know something important. I love you exactly as you are, Raven. I don’t ever want to change you. You were born to be the moon goddess, and if that’s the path you choose, then I want to be there for every step of it. Every second.”Her eyes widened slightly, emotions rising like a tide behind her ribs. “If I stay the moon goddess,” she said slowly, “would that make you... the alpha god? As my mate?”Damien grinned, that familiar cocky confidence lighting his face. “I think we can call me whatever we want,” he said, shrugging. “Since you’re the first goddess mate that anyone’s eve
The following morning, Raven and Damien walked into the dining room together. The room was filled with pack members, every seat occupied by wolves who had fought beside them, wolves who had waited anxiously for news of their Moon Goddess and Luna.As soon as they entered, the room fell silent.Miranda stood up first. “Raven, we are so glad you’re alright.”At her words, every wolf in the room pushed back their chairs and dropped to their knees. The sight was humbling; two dozen warriors, bowing their heads in reverence.Dominic stepped forward. “We are honored to have you as our Goddess. You fought bravely by our side and led us to victory. You have earned our loyalty for all eternity.”Raven felt the emotion catch in her throat. Her fingers brushed Damien’s as she took a step forward.“The honor is all mine,” she said with quiet strength. “And I’m grateful to stand here with all of you. Now, can I have the security update? I am sure a lot has changed since I've been unconscious.”Dam
