“There are big ships and small ships, But the best ship of all is friendship” ~ Unknown.

“I hope my daughter isn't stressed for today's exam.” Joshed (to engage in banter: joke) my father.

“Nope! No stress this time, I’m super confident for this one, I’ll not let you down at any cost”

“Well, I hope so honey, Because I’ve been hearing this for a long time now”, Said my father with a sarcastic laugh.

I knew the reason behind my dad’s sarcastic laugh. Obviously, he had to laugh because, I had failed once when I was in my 6th standard but I’ll have to ignore my dad's sarcastic laugh as always.

They say ...

“A positive life requires a positive mentality”

And I’ll stick to this quote for the rest of my life.

I took out my books as I still had time, it was 7:30AM now, which means I still had half an hour left. While I was sitting, I heard my mother talking to someone, I peeped out from the door and guess who it was? My most sweetly annoying aunt!

Aunt Annie.

A woman about 56 years old. She had slightly white hair which she dyed every other day. A wrinkled face that always showed some kind of jealousy. But most importantly, the sweetest tone when she spoke to anyone which covered all her bitterness at once.

she had personal grudges with me! Her niece. A woman who is boorish, quarrelsome, dishonest, thoughtless and what not! You can have a clear sight of how much I hate her. But all these traits were invisible to my dad! WHY!!

My dad's sweet sister. I wonder what bad I did in life that I got her as my aunt. I always tried to be humble and nice to her but her sharp words always bothered me. I have no idea why my dad never noticed the way she used to treat me but my mom certainly did.

She was the reason for most of the misunderstandings between and my parents. Her sugar-coated words no longer had any effect on me.

She never missed any opportunity to let me down. But the most interesting part was she never let my father feel the bitterness in her words. She is the kindest rude person I have ever seen in my life.

She lived nearby to our home and visited us really often

“Well, Good Morning Chloe” She spoke to my mom

“Good Morning Annie, please come in.” My mom welcomed her.

“Oh dear, where is my handsome brother Samuel” She ignored my mom and went straight inside to our dad who was having his breakfast.

“Good Morning Annie, please come and join me.” Said my father.

“Why not sure. I was feeling a bit lazy today and didn’t cook anything. So, I thought to have breakfast with you.” She spoke sweetly.

“You’re welcome anytime and every time. You don’t need to think twice. You can come anytime you want.” My father answered as he continued to have his breakfast.

“Ah – I wish people at your home were as welcoming as you are Samuel. I come to see you only, who else do I have except you?” My aunt said in a rude way.

“Ha-ha! You’re

really funny! What will you have?” My father tried to cover the situation.

“I would definitely not have this stale bread and uncooked egg! Chloe! Where are you! Will you please come here!” She shouted aggressively.

My mother was working in the kitchen but she ran leaving all her work behind.

“Yes Annie. Is everything alright” She spoke softly.

“Why is my brother having this stale bread! Don’t you have any freshly cooked meal for him? Why don’t you care for him?” My aunt growled (to murmur or complain angrily; grumble.)

“Annie, I think you’re just over-reacting. This is fresh bread and just how I like it. Chloe takes great care of me” said my dad.

“Are you trying to cover up?”

She started arguing with my father.

“No, My lovely sister. Please have breakfast and we’ll talk later. Chloe, you can continue your work”. Said my father calmly to my mom.

My mother went back to the kitchen.

“Don’t you see how old she is? And how handsome you are! You can get another beautiful woman in your life. I’ll find one for you” She spoke to my dad.

“Annie, I’m really sorry but I love Chloe more than anyone. I don’t want to ruin my day by getting into this conversation. Let’s continue eating as I have to leave for office in a few minutes. And Hazel has her finals starting from today, I don’t want her to listen to our conversation and get stressed for the day.” said my father.

“Sure! Well, Hope she doesn’t fail this time” She laughed sarcastically.

I overheard this conversation and couldn’t control my anger. I went inside the room and answered her in a fierce way:

“You don’t have to worry about me. I’m confident and I’ll get good grades.”

“Oh, Hazel my love! Come here!! Where have you been? I missed your cute face so much” She hesitated.

“I’m sure you missed me a lot!” I taunted her and could clearly see the awkwardness on her face.

“Dad, I’m leaving for school, my bus is about to arrive, Wish me luck.”

“Best of luck Hazel. Have a nice day” My dad came forward and kissed my forehead.

“Good Bye” I replied and left my home.

I stood out of my home and waited for my bus to arrive. I always loved standing under the sky, enjoying the cold breeze. It made me forget all my worriesI was standing and waiting for my bus when I saw Daniel.

Daniel Anderson.

One of the most handsome and charming young boys of your school, but sadly this handsome hunk wasn't single.
