Chapter 71

Emily's POV

It was a bumpy ride to Joanne's residence, not because the road was plagued by portholes but because of my heart's hardness and how it pounded furiously against my ribcage in annoyance.

My fingers remained curled into fists for the whole journey to Joanne's family's house.

Eric's hand enclosed around mine in a bid to make me feel better, but I snatched my palms from his grip.

Not today.

He had managed to coax me into going with him to see Joanne's family. I never would understand why he was so determined to rectify a mistake that he did not commit.

It was beyond my understanding why he would even think of going to pay her family a visit.

Obviously, I had disagreed immediately he mentioned it, but I barely had a choice with his persistent pleading. After three days of resistance, I finally succumbed to his wishes.

It was just a day's visit anyway. I would survive seeing Joanne for just a day.
