I still don't understand her reaction. It's pathetic. I've been replaying that moment, and I always feel the same way.

Like a fool, that's right.

She snorted at my options and signed them immediately without hassle. If I hadn't seen the challenging glint in her eyes, I would've thought this would be easy.

Who would've thought my wife or contract bride would easily accept my rules?

And to think that she pushed the announcement back; I thought she was anxious to be Mrs. Marshall, but I was wrong.

“Dude,” I snap back to the present, “you're not even listening to what I said.”

I scowl at Chris and say, “I am.” even though I wasn't, I have no idea what he was saying, and neither do I care when my mind is occupied with a certain someone.

“Bullshit.” He says as he looks at me, “You have no idea what I was saying.”

“Seriously, I am,” I say, trying to convince him even though I know it is a futile effort.

SavannahThe surgery was successful! I squealed and hugged the doctor right after he delivered the good news. She's already been wheeled out of the operation room, and I'm so excited that I don't think about my actions before dialing Mr. Knight's number.“Hello,” he answers on the third ring.“It was successful! The doctors said everything is okay now." I blurted it out immediately.“That's good to know.” His words remain indifferent. “Did you check the time before calling me?”I pause. “Shit, I'm sorry.” It's ten here, so it's about four in the morning where he is.He grumbles, “Is she up yet?” he says, and then the sheets rustle.“No, not yet, but anyway, I have to go. I'm sorry again about the time.”“When are you coming back?”“We're flying back in four days. The doctor said she needs rest and observation.”“They can observe her in the hospital she was admitted to here. You asked for a week; it's been five days. Taking an extra four might seem like you're not serious about the con

DominicIt's the company's gathering, and everyone is here. Dad decided it should be held in our home.I can hear the faint sound of music from here. After tonight, my life will change.I shove my hands into my pants pocket and gaze into the quiet night. The distant lights of the city are so much more beautiful up here. I love the peace and quiet, whereas my dad loves the city. The door opens, and I turn to see Chris standing there. “It's your engagement night, man. Lighten up.”Chris is dressed in a sophisticated dark blue three-piece suit that shows the vibrant blue of his eyes, and a black tie complements his suit. His blond hair is slicked back, and his eyes seem to hold a perpetual sense of amusement. He completes the look with a pair of sleek black dress shoes. I swear, every time I see this dude, He has a ring on every finger but his marriage finger.Today, he’s wearing the ring on his pinkie finger, which, if I'm being honest, is his style.I scowl and say, “Of course you find

SAVANNAHThe centerpiece, a graceful chandelier, immediately catches my eye as it hangs from the ceiling. Its sparkling crystals catch the light, casting a soft, enchanting glow throughout the room.As we enter, all eyes turn to us, and the place falls momentarily silent before some return to their chattering while others look on with interest and some with disgust and jealousy.I tear my gaze from the people and take a moment to observe my surroundings. To my right, a curved staircase with sleek black railings beckons me to explore the upper levels. The railings are adorned with delicate crystals at the tips, creating a mesmerizing interplay of light and shadows as you walk further into the room.Almost every woman and man here is dressed to the nines. It's like a competition to impress in this place, with everyone fighting to stand out.On the opposite side, a fireplace crackles warmly, casting a gentle and cozy ambiance. The dancing flames provide a comforting focal point, and a fe

DominicNothing could have prepared me for this kiss ever since I saw her standing there looking like a goddamn siren.Just as I expected, her lips were soft. I caress her lips with mine, and she inhales sharply. I drag my tongue over her lips and place my fingers behind her hair as I deepen the kiss. She tastes exquisite, like chocolate and vanilla. She wraps her hands around my back and kisses me back with the same intensity.Fuck, this is so much better than I thought. I growl as she bites my lips. I drag my free hand down to her waist when the sound of a camera going off brings us back to the present. She jerks her head, and her cheek flushes as she takes in our surroundings. My father has a knowing glint in his eyes.I can't believe we just made it out in public. The women around us are glaring at her, and the men are giving me looks. Her cheeks are rosy red as she ducks her head and steps back from me. I smirk. “Babe,” I say loudly so everyone can hear. Savannah“Shit.”“What?”“Don't look now, but my father's wife is heading here now,” I say as I keep my eyes fixed on the woman whose eyes have an evil glint in them.I had told Janelle my father's name but didn't explain anything else. She puts the plate down. “How far is she?”“Bit far,” I reply casually, looking into the room and ignoring the scent of the food as it wafts into my nose.“Do you want us to bail?” she asks as she tries to act calm, “If you want to, she wants right now.”“Do you think I should bail?”She pauses. “No. Bailing gives her points. Remember what I said about being the predator?”“Yes,” I say as I puff my shoulders, “I do remember.”“Good. I'm here, so be the predator. Stick your chin up, don't stammer, be alert, and be ready. Stepmothers are mean bitches.”I grin. “Not all of them.”She turns to look at the stepmother, who is closer to us. “Yours doesn't look like she's here for a tea party.”“Whatever.”“Long time no see,” she stops and looks at me, her chin

I might as well go with the flow. She ignores it. “I didn't think I'd see you here.”“And why is that?” I ask as I lean back on the sink. “Why?”“You just didn't fit the description of people who should be here. Despite your, uh, not so fancy clothes,” She looks at me with disdain, “Did you borrow this?” She taps her chin. “Maybe there's a price tag at the back.”“You're running out of options, darling,” I taunt, “or perhaps it's not the clothes or shoes that fit the description.” Her blue eyes narrowed.

SavannahI stand in front of the house where I'll stay for the next year and a half. Mr. Knights drove me here. “Are you going to enter anytime soon?” he asks.I turn back to him. “Are you coming in?”He shakes his head. “No, I have work to handle.”I nod and say, “Okay, thank you.”“Call me if you need anything,” he tells me. He called and offered to drop me off, and I agreed.Last night, when I got home, Mom was waiting for me on the couch. She wasn't happy, that's for sure. It's pretty quiet up here. No lights are on, so I don't know which room she chose.I walk to my room and nod in approval of its cleanliness. Get back here!”He runs up the stairs and behind his father. “C’mon baby, let me him go,” my husband says as he looks at me. “I'm sure he didn't mean to.”I glare at him. “Uh-huh, I'm sure he didn't mean to take the cookies I made personally for Thanksgiving.”Dominic's eyes widen as he turns to his son, who throws him a toothy grin. “See?” he says as he looks at his son. “He didn't mean it.” I glare at him; he is a sucker for Zion.I roll my eyes as I stretch out my arms to him. “Give me my daughter,” I say as I smirk at him. “Go downstairs and care for everything else since you want to defend your son. Excited squeals and gasps surround me as I look at our family. “I have to go back in!” I say, pulling the door close leaving the noise outside. My wife needs me.Re-entering, I see our baby boy lying on her chest as they clean her up. She looks up, eyes watering. “Our baby,” she says weakly, and I nod vehemently as I kneel before her bed, “He’s so beautiful,” she says as she looks down at him. I nod as tears trail down my cheeks. “Thank you,” I say, rubbing her head. “Thank you.”“Excuse me, sir, please wait outside.” the nurse asks. DOMINICThe atmosphere is charged with anticipation as I tap my feet, awaiting her. The space around me echoes the silent suspense. “Should we wait some more?” a voice asks, and I nod tightly, reassuring more myself than the speaker, “She’ll come. She’ll be here soon.”As I contemplate checking my phone, the door swings open, and my pulse goes haywire. She's here. She's adorned in a flowing white dress, eyes glistening as she approaches. I smile softly, and she reciprocates, causing my heart to pound. As she reaches me, she mouths, “I'm sorry.” I shake my head, pulling her into me. “I had cramps.”My concern shows with a frown. “Are you okay? Is it severe?” I hold her at arm’s length. “Is it okay?”She smiles brightly. “Yeah, I'm fine.” She exhales. “Let's do this.”I smile, kissing her forehead before taking my stance beside her. Elizabeth Miller.I'm struggling with my thousands of emotions, a turbulent whirlwind. I've always prided myself on maintaining my resolve to stay clear of Sebastian Knights, and I've succeeded. They say there's a thin line between love and hate, and I've found that true. To release the love I once had for him, I had to blur that line and harbor a deep resentment for him—the man who took everything from me.I shake my head, recalling our conversation the day Savannah shared the news of her pregnancy and the way he looked at me when I discovered he had given me his kidney. He saved my life, and why would he do such a thing? I cling to the notion that he did it for her, not me. Although I believe that, a small part of me questions: What if it was more than just for Savannah? What if he did it for me?I scoff at my thoughts as I step outside, my heart racing as I search for him. Sebastian Knights has always had a knack for breaking down every wall I built, and the hatred I clung to was a

My hands tighten around Savannah, and I pull her closer to me. “There will be no bond for Becca Knights and the rest of the defendants.” I see Evans' jaw clench tight.Aisha turns to us and smiles tightly. I scowl at her, knowing that she might have helped to save Savannah, but she was the reason she was taken in the first place.“Becca Knights is sentenced to a hundred years with no parole and heavy duties.” Becca's eyes widen, and she gasps as she looks at him before her eyes turn to us. I subconsciously pull Savannah closer to me. “Sophia Knights is sentenced to fifteen years in prison with parole.” I see Sophia bow her he

I sigh, feeling a sharp headache, knowing I could've prevented everything.I park the car and rest my head on the steering wheel, the weight of it all pressing on my chest. I could have stopped this. I run my hand down my face and look outside. To my surprise, I'm at the graveyard. I haven't been here in years, but I don't understand why I stayed away. With nothing else to do, I push the car door open and step out. It's still the same as I remember it—quiet and calm. I look around at the graves, and my heart becomes heavy, realizing that these are the final resting places for people with dreams and accomplishments cut short by death. Why do people have to die? Wouldn't it be better if there were somewhere everyone goes after growing old instead of just disappearing?Pushing those thoughts aside, I walk throu
