Chapter 46-An Accident

SAVANNAH

I'm seated in the car's back seat as they drive me home.

My mind keeps drifting back to Dad and how he fell silent when Mom entered the room. It's almost as if he didn't want her to know he was talking to me.

All I managed to get out of him was the introduction and how they kept looking at each other.

I rub my thumb across my forehead and rest my head against the back of the seat. Dad asked me to leave and rest since Mom informed him I hadn't had time to take care of myself.

FLASHBACK

Dad's face looks distant as if he's entirely elsewhere.

I listen attentively as he explains the meeting between him and Mom. I smile when he mentions that she's his soulmate.

There's a gentle knock on the door, startling Dad from his thoughts. “Come in,” I say loudly as the door is pushed open, and Mom enters. Dad looks at her and blinks before turning his gaze toward me.
