Chapter 3

Living In The Enemies Den

I followed behind the guy who I could call my savior, my thoughts were filled with confusion. How is it that my enemy's son is helping me? I trailed closely, keeping my distance as we walked through corridors.  We reached his chamber, and he opened the door for me, a motion that surprised me also.

“Why did you help me?” I asked, stepping inside curiously.

“Is that what I get for saving your life?” he asked, a smirk playing on his lips.

“I didn't ask you to,”I snapped,  folding my arms on my chest with a defensive look.

“So, you wanted to waste your life?” he challenged, with a narrowed look.

I went mute, unable to form a word in my head. His words struck deep.

“A thank you would have been enough to appreciate,” he said slowly, with sarcasm in his tone. “I saved you because I hate to see a tall beautiful lady with long auburn silky hair, striking blue eye, long legs, shimmering skin, waste her life” he explained staring at me intensely

He chuckled, and my eyes widened at his comment that almost left me blushing. Did he just describe me? I immediately masked it off and replaced it with a stern look “I can't be one of your whores,” I spat back, In disdain .

Derrick laughed out loud, his laughter echoing in the room. “Don't worry, I'm not interested in the way my name is Derrick," he introduced.”

My mind was so unsettled. I would have been ready to fight him off, but his attitude was too calm for alarm. I couldn’t understand his motives. “How am I going to get out of this pack house?” I asked, desperately.

Derrick's turn to me with a confused look. “You can't leave now. Not anytime soon.”

“Why?” I demanded, my fists clenched, ready to fight if he tried anything stupid.

“Because my father will find you if he discovers you aren't my maid,” he replied nonchalantly, leaning against the doorframe.

“So what do I do now?" I asked in a whisper .

“You have to stay and be my maid,” he said curtly.

“Why would I do that?” I challenged him, my eyes staring daggers at him .

“Because you have no choice except you want to die by beheading,” he blurted o firmly “in case you don't know my father then I did like to let you know that my father is a very strict man who doesn't go back on his words he will definitely find you”  he explained, in a cold tone.

I smirked “maybe you forgot to mention the fact that he is brutal and heartless” I murmured underneath my breath

“Did you say something” Derrick asked staring at me

“Noo I didn't” I denied

“Come to think of it, did you really try to invade our pack?” He asked with a suspicious tone .

“Noooo... I never did anything like that,” I lied, my voice shaking slightly. “I was really mistaken for one of them.”

Derrick's eyes narrowed, studying me. “I thought as much,” he replied, “you don't even look like one who could do anything like that” he added in a concluded tone

“So naive and clueless,” I thought, my mind going wild with thoughts. If only you know that I will be  your father's worst nightmare.

“Do you want me to dress up that wound for you?, the warriors must have struck you their” he asked in a pitiful tone

“No they are fine, they will heal themselves” I replied, surprised at his act of pity. I was used to wounds like this most times when I trained and other times when I had to fight some wild wolves. The great advantage as a wolf was that wounds could heal up themselves.

“Ooh totally forget about that I guess I'm quite the unlucky one” he said bitterly. I had no idea what he meant and I wasn't ready to ask either.

Derick seemed a little relaxed,  “What's your name?” he asked suddenly. "And where are you from? What pack?"

My heart pounded in my chest. I had to think fast. “My name is Olivia,” I replied smoothly, forcing myself to meet his look. “I'm from the Silver Moon Pack.” I lied, I didn't have a pack after all so I had to think of something

Derrick raised an eyebrow. “Silver Moon Pack? I've never heard of it.”

“It's a small, isolated pack,” I replied quickly. I didn't want any suspicion. “We keep to ourselves.” I added to make it sound more believable

He seemed to accept my explanation, nodding slowly. “Alright, Olivia. If you  follow my lead, you might just manage to survive.”

I was ready for anything at least to stay alive, I had to play this role perfectly. “Understood,” I said, firmly, trying hard to blend in.

Derrick moved to a nearby chair and sat down, watching me intently. “You’ll start by cleaning this room,” he said, waving his hand around the chamber. “And remember, you're my maid now. Act like it, if the head maid comes to inspect my room and it's not clean you could get punished.”  He added

I nodded, trying to suppress the anger that was burning within me. I’m not a maid. I’m a warrior. And I will find a way out of this. But for now, I just had to play along.

As I began to clean the room, Derrick watched me, with no expression. “Why were you in our territory in the first place?”  he asked suddenly, breaking the silence.

The question came as a shock and I didn't know exactly what to say. I had to come up with a convincing story. “I was running from rogues,” I said, keeping a serious tone. “They attacked my pack, and I got separated from the others. I ended up here by accident.”

Derrick studied me, his eyes searching for any signs of lies. “Rogues, huh? They’ve been a problem lately.”

“Yes,” I nodded, grateful that he believed me. “I barely escaped with my life.” I added

leaning back in his chair. “Well, you're safe here. At least I found you a pack and a job he added boastfully with a smile.”

I let out a “Tsk” so full of himself I thought inwardly I continued cleaning, my mind working overtime. I have to find a way out of this. And when I do, I will make sure my enemies pay dearly

I continued cleaning trying to do my best. When I finally finished, I turned to him. “Is there anything else you need me to do?” I asked, keeping my tone polite.

“Not for now,” he replied, standing up. “You can rest. I will get some clothes for you to change into.”

I nodded. As he walked out  I sat down in the corner of the room, I needed time to think, to plan my next move. How did the Firestorm pack ever get to know we were attacking? I thought to myself everything just doesn't make sense. I need to find Michael but am caged here for now.

The door pushed open and Derrick walked in again “you will stay in the room next to my room it's a room for my personal maids stay, and change into that it is the maid uniform” he said putting the cloth next to me

“Can't you get me another cloth”  I asked him how will a warrior like me be wearing a maid cloth I thought inwardly the thought alone was getting me pissed.

“I am sure you still love your life and I am not also planning to get myself killed by my father so just dress and act like a maid not like you are one princess” he said frustrated as he stormed out the room.

“I was actually a princess, until your miserable father rendered me homeless and turned me to an orphan.” I murmured inaudibly as I was now seated alone in the room. A lot had happened just today. The pain of losing those I called family hitting me so hard I took a quick shower laying on the bed. Very much at alert I couldn't rest. Not when am in my enemies' den.
