Ophelia;
"Murderer? Why would they think....?"
I didn't have the time to process my thoughts as the Alpha quickly came forward, almost out of breath.
He froze, upon setting his eyes on her, "Mother," he whispered. I could hear the brokenness in his voice as he took small steps toward us.
He fell on his knees in front of her, his trembling hands reaching out to her. Seeing him that way made my heart break for him.
"Oh, Enzo..." My heart couldn't take the scene in front of me. As much as he had hurt me, I never wanted to see him this way. I never wanted to see him look as broken as he does now.
The night was suddenly quiet. The only sound was from the rustling of leaves by the wind and the faint howl of wolves nearby, probably those going for night runs.
But just as suddenly, Enzo's eyes flashed to mine dangerously, "How could you, Ophelia? Is this how you take your revenge? Is this what you could resort to, after all?"
"What?...." I was confused, "Enzo...you do not possibly think....."
The words caught in my throat as I saw the look in his eyes. This wasn't the man I had loved for two years. No, this wasn't my mate. This person stared at me with so much hate in his eyes.
"You killed my mother, Ophelia!" His Eyes darted to my hands, at the bloodstains on them, and my eyes widened.
"No, it's not what you think, Enzo. I was just trying to help her."
I knew how lame my words sounded even before I said them out loud.
"Take her to the dungeon!" I heard his deep voice command and warriors made their way way towards me.
*****
My breaths came out in harsh gasps, as I sat on the cold floor of the dungeon. Placing my hand on my belly, which seemed to be like a source of comfort to me.
"It's okay, Ophelia," Ava, my wolf, chided me, " Our main priority now, is to protect our pup. Enzo would come around. Don't worry."
She still held on to the fact that he might have a change of heart. I did too, but I knew deep within me, with the look in his eyes earlier, I might have lost him forever."
I dreaded to think what would become of me and my unborn child. I was only a few weeks gone and I hoped Enzo would realize it was all a misunderstanding.
Wasn't it enough that he had accused me, based on false claims? Wasn't it enough that I was framed by his brother, Ethan?
The thoughts swirled in my head, as I suddenly heard light footsteps approach.
Standing abruptly, I made my way to the bars on the door, clutching at them, until the person showed up.
A sigh of relief escaped my lips as I realized it was my sister, Olivia.
"Oh my God, Sis!" Fresh tears fell down my cheeks as I saw her.
Olivia and I have been quite inseparable, ever since we lost our parents to the cold hands of death, just a week before our eighteenth birthday.
It was also so sad for me when I turned eighteen and found my mate, Enzo. It coincided with the time frame she was offered admission to study abroad.
Needless to say, I was elated to see her. But at this point, something felt wrong.
My brows furrowed as Olivia brought out a key, and opened the cell door.
"What are you doing, Liv? The warriors..."
The words flew out of my mouth, not noticing her palms stretching forward until I felt a loud slap on my cheek.
The shock of it made my head snap to the side, and I fell on my knees. Instinctively, my right hand went to my belly.
I stared up at her in confusion, and she crouched down lower, the corner of her lips curling in a smirk, "There! I have been meaning to do that for a long time now."
"What...what are you talking about, Sister?"
Her eyes narrowed, as she grabbed a hold of my chin, "I ceased to be your sister, the very day you took the love of my life away from me! The day you stole everything from me. Tell me, what sister does that, huh?"
Before I could grasp the meaning of her words, I felt the back of her hands hit my other cheek hard, I almost fell back in shock.
A sharp cry escaped my lips, as I stared at her, "What are you doing? What have I done to you, Liv?"
"I am gonna spell it out for you since you have chosen to remain daft and stupid. You stole Enzo from me," she pointed a finger at herself, "I was supposed to be his mate! I was supposed to be the Luna of this Pack! I was supposed to have it all!!" She hissed, her voice seething.
"But you just have to come to ruin it all, didn't you?"
My head was still reeling from the slap when I caught sight of something shiny in her hands.
A knife!
A silver knife!
Subconsciously, I inched backward, my voice suddenly caught in my throat.
"Extend my regards to mother-in-law," she sneered, "Tell her it was never my intention to rip her heart out."
She drew her hand forward, and she grabbed a hold of my hair. Her other hand swung forward to stab at my stomach, and a cry escaped my lips.
"Don't do this, Liv. Please.."
But just then, heavy footsteps were heard and Olivia's eyes widened. But then, she did the unthinkable.
Olivia turned the knife in her hands, and the sharp edges pointed to her. She grabbed my right hand, placing it on the knife handle, and in a swift move, stabbed right at her stomach.
At that very moment, Enzo burst into the cell. His eyes were wide and frantic, as they settled on Olivia, who was now screaming out loud while clutching at her blood-stained dress.
"Ophelia!" He yelled out, "What have you done this time?"
"She stabbed me, Enzo!" Olivia cried out as she rolled on the floor.
I made to reach out to her, and my eyes caught the bloodied knife, in my trembling hands.
"No, I didn't. I.."
"Shut the fuck up, Ophelia! How much more damage are you willing to cause me?"
I couldn't say a word. I couldn't even defend myself, as I watched him carry her up, his face full of concern and anguish.
Beta Logan rushed in, and Enzo commanded, "Take Olivia to the infirmary, Logan. Right now."
Everything was a blur, as I felt strong arms on me, leading me out of the cell. By the time I got my bearings, I was somewhere out of the woods. It was quiet, but Enzo stood before me, staring at me with a deathly expression.
There was no one around, as I glanced around, I wondered what was happening.
"Are...are you going to punish me?" I asked as I tried to crawl up from the hard floor.
I stood, making my way to him, but his cold gaze stopped me in my tracks, as he took few steps towards me.
Unconsciously, I took some steps backward. The more he came forward, the more I moved back. My feet slipped off a ledge, and it took me a moment to realize we were standing on a cliff, overlooking a large flowing water.
"You are a disgrace and an embarrassment to this Pack, Ophelia. I curse the day the moon goddess gave you as a mate to me."
I watched as his face scrunched up in disgust and irritation, stopping just a few inches from me.
And then it began to rain. Fast heavy pours, descended on us, as we stood, facing each other.
"I am going to make this easy for you, Ophelia. You are going to leave and never come back."
"What...?"
"I...Enzo Blackwood of the Lone Wolves Pack...."
"No!" I tried to stop him, but he grabbed my arms forcefully.
"I reject you as my mate, Ophelia, and I do not want to have anything to do with you anymore. Now, accept the fucking rejection!"
I was in a puddle of tears, as he spoke, a crushing pain in my chest as I tried to breathe.
I knew I had lost him. I knew there was no going back on this.
"I, Ophelia Stone, of the..Lone Wolves Pack, accept your rejection."
His shoulders slumped for a bit. I could not register his actions, but I felt his hand release mine in an instant, causing me to lose balance.
Before I knew it, my feet had skidded off a slippery rock, and I quickly placed a hand on my lower belly, shielding my baby.
A large scream escaped my lips, as I realized I was falling. Deep, deep down, until my body was immersed in the water, making me fight for air. Until I couldn't any longer.
Alpha Axel;I couldn't lose her. The thought of never seeing her again was enough to leave a bitter taste in my mouth, not now. Especially not at a time like this. Hell, I hadn't gotten my mate yet. She hadn't recovered her wolf and, of course, hadn't still recognized me as his mate.I didn't come all these away to lose her due to some flimsy quarrel.I got to the basement in no time, my patience wavering as I opened the door, which hadn't been touched in a long while. There was a tunnel in there. One which I had built specifically for this purpose. If, at all, someone had gotten a hold of this place, there was still absolutely no way he could get down to the tunnel, as there were security features that allowed just my fingerprint for access.Having done all that, the metal doors opened and I made my way towards the little room where she most likely was." Lexi," I gritted out, as soon as I saw the shadowy figure at the end of the room.A smirk crept up on my face, seeing as she didn
Alpha Axel;My cell phone popped up with a notification and I was mortified when I saw the contents of the message. As Maddox had claimed, it was a photo of my little boy, Mario, in a van. He had been taken. How that was possible, I still couldn't fathom. His security was always so tight. I fucking made sure of it.I adjusted Ophelia in my arms as I noticed the people sitting close to Mario in the van, and my fists clenched. That lady. I could recognize her anywhere. She looked at the camera like she knew she had won at something. A message came in and I immediately opened it, my frantic fingers swiping at my screen in a frenzy. My wolf was getting pissed and agitated already, and the text on the screen made my blood boil.'Apologies, Alpha King. Blame your cheating homewrecker of a Luna for this. For your information, I have no desire to release this child, no matter what it takes. And I absolutely do not mind what your brother, Maddox, or whoever he is, tells you. This is my battl
Alpha Axel;"What the fuck have you done?" I bellowed, wanting to believe he was bluffing, but the look on his face told otherwise. He smiled. The mother fucker actually smiled, like I was some kind of a joke. No one else in my pack riles me up, as much as he does. No one.My chest was fuming, and as much as I would hate to admit, I suddenly feared for Ophelia's condition."You will tell me what it is you are talking about, Maddox," I seethed, with gritted teeth, my emotions going haywire.Zane was growling and howling in my head, urging me to give him control, so he could deal with him once and for all. But I couldn't risk it.He had always wanted to kill Maddox...for a long time now. But I always stopped him. Goddess knew I wanted it as badly as possible, but I needed to be rational.I could very well get away with it, but I do not soil my hands with blood unnecessarily, unless for a good cause...a strong cause. Moreover, I was barely hanging on the single thread of family here.
Alpha Axel;My eyes never left hers, as we stood in the dimly lit room. Every cell in me threatened to grab her and never let her go. Every cell in me threatened to do to her, what I so pleased... What I so desired. But I just couldn't...for now.It had taken everything in me, to relent to this point. And at that moment, I wished she was bluffing. But just as soon as she had spoken, her eyes rolled in her head, and she swayed slightly. Before I could make sense of the situation, she was falling fast to the ground. My eyes followed her movement, and in a moment of panic and confusion, I reached forward in a swift move, grabbing, and pulling her to me, just before she fell to the ground."Goodness, Ophelia, what the hell?" I remarked as I held her back, trying to steady her. She didn't respond, and as I pulled slightly to look at her, my eyes widened."Blood," Zane, my wolf said, as he sniffed the air. It didn't take me long, and I smelt it too.Stronger, even.I felt my heart pulsate,
Ophelia;I felt Enzo's hand rub my arms, and in that fleeting moment, I felt a little bit of nostalgia. I shouldn't..but there was only so little I could do, to see the expression on Olivia's face. Was it worth it? Absolutely. But I simply couldn't tell if I had made a wrong choice, by letting Enzo kiss me. I pulled away immediately, putting as much distance between us as possible, but it seemed like he predicted my move and his arms pulled me back to him, his lips kissing mine with so much fervor.Memories of our time together flashed through my head. Memories of him kissing me the way he was.. loving me. Memories of the time we simply lived together, without any worry in the world, just two mates who were deeply in love with each other. But, those memories were like an illusion at the moment. As much as I tried to live in the moment, our last moment together was at the forefront of my mind. With all my might, I pushed him away from me. "How dare you!?" I seethed, as I struck
Olivia;I was still, my eyes wide open and I felt my heart rate quicken. He stood at the door, his eyes wide, as he stared. What is he doing here? "Ophelia...." He breathed out, his gaze faltering, as they settled on... her, "I've been looking for you. I need to talk to you."I wanted to pretend that I wasn't in this room, as Enzo barged in. I wanted to pretend that I just didn't notice the way his eyes dwelt on her. His pupils dilated, as he stared at her, with a concerned look in his eyes. This was the first, for over a month now that I was able to see Enzo show a bit of emotion.Nothing I could do, these few months were enough to bring him out of the shell, he had so desperately retreated to."I really, really need to talk to you, Ophelia...please," He pleaded, his voice almost in a whisper."Enzo!?" I was flabbergasted that he would want to talk to her, completely disregarding me in the room. This shouldn't be happening. They shouldn't have met again. But my husband simply igno
