Nandini rushed through the lobby of the intimidating building, adjusting her sleeves. She was late on her first day of work and she was so sure either she would get scolded or worse fired. Both the thoughts made her tensed.
She had set her alarm clock for six in the morning and slept early the night before just so that she could manage to wake up early but even after trying so hard, her eyes betrayed her this morning too.
She mumbled few curses under her breath as she waited for the elevator door to open. "Oh come on. Come on." she impatiently tapped her foot. For a second, she thought of teleporting but the very next second she dumped the idea.
She was a vampire, an existence unknown to the human world. She had a petite figure but you can't judge a book by it's cover, she had a strength of a gigantic elephant or even more than it. She could teleport from one place to other in less than a second which, even among her peers, only very few could do. Because of her uniqueness she wasn't able to live peacefully in her clan, so she was currently living in the human world, trying her best to blend with humans.
She convinced herself almost every single day that she was okay living alone away from her clan. She was okay for she could enjoy and live her life the way she wanted and not under someone's command.
'It's okay.' she breathed in. But who was she trying to lie to? Although vampires were almost ruthless but she felt like she belonged there more than here in the ordinary world. Moreover her only family, her big brother was there.
She shuffled through her bag and sighed in relief on spotting her palm sized transparent green tablet box.
She survived on tablets, which acted as a substitute of blood. She made the tablets herself from medicinal herbs and few other items, so it'd never been a problem for her. She had never for once drank human blood and so the capsule also helped her to live in the daylight. But as a side effect of the capsule she needed more amount of sleep.
When the elevator dinged open, she entered the elevator and pressed for the twentieth floor. But before the elevator could start its ascent, the elevator door opened again and a man in black entered.
The first thing she noticed was his height which was unusually tall at least for her. He had a handsome face with a slightly built body and from her point of view the color black really complemented his ivory skin tone.
Tearing her gaze away from him, she checked her watch and to her disappointment she was already ten minutes late. Cursing herself, she impatiently waited for the elevator to ascent and when it did, she suddenly felt weak. Strangely the smell of the man's blood got unusually stronger in the closed space.
'Blood Blood.' Nandini unconsciously thought. She tightly held on to her bag, trying to hold herself back from pouncing onto the neck of the tall man but her senses betrayed her. Before she even knew she was just a step away from him.
The man could feel her presence behind him. He slightly turned to look at the person but he was taken aback when she suddenly pushed him to the wall.
His eyes locked with her slightly red orbs and to his surprise those orbs captivated him. He couldn't stop looking at her. May be that was why even when she bend towards him, precisely his neck, he let her. He could feel her breath fanning against his neck and he strangely liked it.
He shut his eyes close to sink into those strange feelings and when he closed his eyes, his intention became clearer, he wanted to hold her. He really wanted to but right then the elevator dinged open on the ninth floor, bringing them back to their senses.
Covering her lips with her right hand, she immediately yanked apart from him. She couldn't comprehend her own actions. What was she even trying to do? Suck his blood?
The whole atmosphere of the elevator felt awkward and she could feel the gaze of the tall man on her.
Right then a girl entered the elevator with a large stack of files in her hand and thankfully the stack of files had managed to block the view of the girl. The girl placed the files down and for a moment Nandini wondered how such skinny hands had managed to hold those large stack of files.
"Oh, hey Manik." the girl enthusiastically wished on noticing the man. "How did your meeting go?"
"It was okay, Sia." the man, who now had a name, Manik said.
'Manik. So his name is Manik.' Nandini thought to herself as she shuffled through her bag and took out a tablet from her tablet box. She tossed it into her mouth and she felt her nerves slowly calming down.
'Nandini focus. You are here for work.' She mentally reminded herself and pouted, heaving a sharp breath and this caught the attention of Manik. His lips unknowingly curved into a small smile seeing her make such a cute expression.
He was now confused with her reaction as well as his own. He wasn't someone to fall for temptations and especially never the one to give in but surprisingly he did with her and this confused him even more.
'Is this what people call attraction at first sight?' This thought struck his mind as he noticed even the smallest change in her expression.
"Did you meet my dad there?" Sia asked, looking at him but he was too busy brazenly staring at Nandini that he didn't even hear her. She threw a glance at Nandini and then at him. "Manik!" she waved a hand in front of him and that seemed to have caught his attention.
"Huh? Yeah, what did you just say?"
"My dad. Did you meet my dad there?" she said with a plastered smile.
"Uh no, I didn't get the chance to meet him." he replied back, composing himself.
A few minutes later, the elevator dinged and opened on the twentieth floor. Nandini was the first to get off. She didn't even cut a glance at Manik and just rushed out, mentally hoping for her to never cross paths with him again.
"Hi I am Nandini, the newly recruited PA." Nandini said to the receptionist.
"You are late." The receptionist informed something that she already knew.
"This won't happen again."
"It better not." The receptionist said, handing her some files and her ID card. "However, you are lucky. Sir had an urgent meeting so he hasn't arrived yet. So you may check his schedule till then."
Nandini sighed in relief. A big smile made it's way to her lips but the smile was short lived, for Manik decided to make his entry. The receptionist stood up to greet him. "Good morning sir."
Nandini looked at the receptionist and then at him, realization dawning upon her.
He is my boss.
"Good morning sir." she immediately greeted him. All she wanted to do at that moment was to dig a grave and bury herself.
She had pictured her boss to be some 50 year old guy but to her surprise he was no where near to 50. She was sure he would maximum be 30 years. What was she even expecting when she applied for the post of PA in a gaming company?
"Miss Nandini. Sir wants to see you." the receptionist informed, snapping her out of her thoughts and that was when Nandini realized Manik had already left.
Adjusting the files in her hand, she made her way towards her boss's cabin. Her heart had been pounding heavily when she knocked on the door. She had never felt this nervous in her entire life. Was it, by any chance, because of the elevator incident? May be it was.
"Come in." she heard him say and she slightly opened the door, letting herself in.
His cabin was pitch black with white marbled furniture. It was simple yet it looked so attractive.
"Good morning sir." she wished with her ever so cheerful smile. Manik could feel his heart do a double take on seeing her smile. However, the nervousness in her face didn't go unnoticed by him.
'What's wrong with you Manik?' He mentally scolded himself.
"Good morning Miss-" he paused."Your name?" he asked. He knew her name and yet he felt like asking it.
"Nandini. Nandini Taylor but if it's too long for you, you could call me Nanz. I mostly prefer-" Nandini choked on her words, biting her lower lips when she realized she spoke more than needed in nervousness. She chatted a lot and often this landed her in troubles, especially when she was nervous.
"Miss Taylor, only specific answers from next time." Manik said, putting on a straight face. Though he didn't admit it, but he kind of liked the idea of calling her 'Nanz'.
'Miss Taylor. Yuck! that sounds worst.' Nandini thought to herself but she didn't show it on her face.
"Go get me my coffee Miss Taylor." Manik ordered and she gladly complied. She was just glad that he didn't bring up the elevator incident.
'Let's just forget about it.'

Sometimes love is unexpected. You meet them by fate and it's an instant connection.-
Nandini heaved a sigh of relief as she walked out of the office building. She had been running around the whole day from one department to another. She was sure if not for her perks as a vampire, she would have fainted. More than that she had a hard time controlling herself from pouncing onto him. The thought of wanting to suck his blood had passed through her mind countless of times and controlling her inner instincts made her more tired. "Miss Taylor get me this. Miss Taylor get me that." She mimicked his lines and sighed irritatedly, "For god sake I have a name. He can just call me Nandini and I would be fine with it." Right then the scent of fresh blood hit her nostrils and she could feel herself longing to taste it. "Not-" she breathed in the enthralling scent. "not again." She failed to control herself. Her feet took her nearer to the scent. Blood. Fresh blood. Her subconscious mind chanted. "Miss Taylor what are you doing here?" Manik asked as he saw her nearing towards him.
Nandini could feel her self control giving in to her desire of sucking his blood. Frustrated, she covered her mouth and nose with her right hand, trying hard to block his scent but it did nothing. She turned to leave but Manik's voice stopped her midway. "Did I tell you to leave Miss Taylor?" She closed her eyes in frustration. "No sir you didn't." she turned to face him. "Brief me my schedule." he reclined on his chair and looked at her. "And uncover your mouth. It's irking me." "Yes sir." she complied as she uncovered her mouth and his blood smelled even stronger than before. She dabbed her lips and clenched her fist trying hard not to lose her control. "Miss Taylor brief me my schedule." he said yet again and she forced a smile, taking out her phone from her pocket. "At 12:00, you have one me-meeting-" she paused, letting out a sharp breath, before continuing, "with the strategy and planning department regarding the recent updates made in the game sir." "And what more?" he cl
Nandini had never felt any sort of craving for sucking human blood. The tablets had been acting as a great remedy and she thought she would be absolutely fine living amidst humans but now after meeting Manik, she was having second thoughts. His blood had this strong sweet scent and it made her lose her calm. Even the tablets she took could only calm her down to some extent for maximum three hours. The more time she spent with him, briefing and arranging his schedule and accompanying him to meetings, the more her desire got stronger and that was what scared her. Just a week of working with him and she could feel her self control losing to her desire. "Nandini." a familiar voice hit her ears and that seemed to have broken her trance. "Oh, hi Sia." she waved her right hand up in the air on noticing a skinny tall figure approaching her. In a week time, she had grown quite comfortable with Sia, the head of the planning department and also her arrogant boss's childhood friend. "What a s
Nandini jumped out of bed after checking the wall clock. It was 8:40 am and she had to report in the office by 9:00 am. She quickly freshened up before changing into anything she got in her closet. She couldn't take the risk of skipping her breakfast as it would only contribute in triggering her desire for blood, specifically his blood. So she hurriedly heated the leftovers from last night. After she was done eating, she placed the dishes on the sink and hastily tossed a tablet into her mouth. Sighing, she glanced at the clock only to slump on the ground. She was already five minutes late. "Using my powers just one more time wouldn't hurt. Right?" She mumbled to herself before standing upright. She made sure no one was around before closing her eyes and chanting a spell under her breath. The next moment she was inside Manik cabin's attached restroom with her feet dipped in the water filled bucket. Her shoes and her stockings were completely wet. "What a great start to my day!" she
An hour laterNandini had been sitting on the sand while she looked at the rising and falling waves of the ocean. The sky was blue with minimal clouds and the sun shone brightly. There were people sun bathing, children trying to make sandcastles, some people were even swimming and surfing. The place gave off a fun vibe. She adjusted her position a bit as she stared at the waves and the people moving around."Miss Taylor." A hand grasp on her shoulder. Just by his scent, she knew who the person was but she still raised her head to look at the person. "Sir, did you get a good sleep?"sheasked.Manik sat beside her. "Sleep?! What do you mean? I don't think I was sleeping. What had happened in the parking area? That man? His eyes?!I don't know.
Three days later"Finally my precious Sunday has arrived." Nandini smiled as she over dramatically threw herself on her bed. "I can sleep till late in the morning. Oh my precious sleep!" She rolled on the bed, grinning. That was when her eyes landed on her table where the capsule ingredients were safely placed. She remembered that she had to make a stronger dose of those capsules of hers. Throughout the week, she had a hard time staying in a closed space with him even with the capsules that she consumed in the interval of every three to fours hours.*Beep Beep*Her phone beeped, making her tear her gaze from her table to her phone placed on the bedside table. She crawled on her bed and reached for her phone."Boss"The name flashed on her phone screen and she pouted. "I think I should change his name. Boss sounds too distinct." she said to herself before pi
"I hope the effect lasts longer." Nandini said to herself as she looked at the tablet box in her hand. She had spent the whole weekend in mixing the ingredients and making a much stronger dose of the tablet. She had tested it and she was sure it worked but she still wasn't sure as to how long it's effect would last. Her face scrunched at the bitter taste of the tablet when it came in contact with her tongue. She chewed it despite it's bitter taste. "Good things always taste bitter." she convinced herself as she chewed it and made her way towards the reception desk. She signed the attendance sheet and made her entry in the fingerprint recognition system before going to Manik's cabin. She placed the files he had asked for and his schedule on his table. Just when she was about leave his cabin, his scent trickled her nostrils. 'He's here.' her mind registered as she took a step away from the door and right then the door closer clicked opened. "Good morning sir." she wished with a polit
The gathering was supposed to be a small celebration for the huge success of the previous gaming event or so Nandini had thought until she stepped into the gigantic, glassy space and her eyes fell on the people around. Everyone were adorned in their finest attires, most chatting, drinking and some even swaying their hips to the music on the dance floor. It was completely opposite of what she had pictured it would be, not that she didn't like it though. "Wasn't it just supposed to be a small gathering to motivate everyone?" Nandini asked, suddenly feeling out of place. She was dressed in a plain black knee length turtle neck one piece, nothing extravagant but classy. "It is." Manik answered with a nod. "Then what's with everyone.." she trailed off with her eyes wandering around the room. "I mean why are they so overly dressed and what's with the music? Aren't office gathering meant to be on a more formal side? This honestly feels less like an office gathering and more like an actual
Skyler was dead tired by the time he reached the square. The day had been nothing but a train wreck. He had forgotten to refill his substitute tablets and he had eaten nothing since the morning. Moreover, he was called in to attend a case briefing meeting with the senior officers and he was handed over a missing person case which wasn't even supposed to be dealt with by him in the first place. To add up he had to deal with some grueling paperwork that he had just gotten done with a few minutes ago. All he wanted to do right then was to throw himself on his bed and sleep but unfortunately, that luxury wasn't meant for him. He got a call from Nandini asking him to come to the square and he wasn't given the slightest hint as to why he was called. Sighing he pushed the door of the VIP room open. "Why did you call me im-" His voice died down his throat as soon as he stepped inside the room, for he smelled a familiar enthralling scent. He didn't need to turn to look at the person for him
Nandini had been barely hanging in the presence of Manik with the help of her substitute tablets but now that all her tablets had been confiscated she didn't know what to do. She had been so used to relying on her high dose tablets that the normal doses seemed to have no effect on her, not even when she had chugged down three tablets in one glass of water which wasn't exactly considered a good thing to do and now she had been regretting it as the tablets effect had started kicking in. Her head felt heavy and she couldn't get a grasp of what was going around. She felt as though the world was spinning and she was spinning along with it. "Nanz!" Someone's hazy voice reached Nandini's ears and that made her a bit alert. "Nanz! Nandini! Are you okay?" The voice sounded more clear and the feeling of being lightly patted on her cheeks slowly started kicking into her system. Simultaneously her blurry vision cleared too. She noticed three things in quick succession as soon as she got back to h
The week took too long to go by for Nandini's liking, mainly because of her boss's cranky attitude. He seemed irritated with everything and anything the whole week and she knew pretty well none was his fault. Those were just the side effects of being the victim of mind control. He did try not to show his temper when she was around but most of the time it just led to sudden outburst and a lot of coaxing from her. "Sir has been too strict with us this whole week. I don't even want to attend today's committee meeting." Nandini heard an employee say as she passed through the corridor beside the balcony. "Yeah did he get ditched or something? It's like he's been taking out someone else's frustration on us." The other replied with a sigh. Nandini lightly knocked on the balcony door as she let herself in. "Lunch hour is over. You both do realize that, don't you?" On hearing Nandini's voice both of them became alert. "Eh, we were just about to get back to work." One of them replied, scra
The next day "So you are telling me the attackers are humans?" Nandini wasn't sure if she heard him right. "Were humans." Skyler corrected. "Now they are neither humans nor vampires. I guess we could call them hybrid." "How is that possible? Long ago when the three lords decided to give up feeding on human blood and relying on animal blood, we eventually lost our ability to turn the dead into our kind. So how is that possible?" "We did but what if there were vampires who started drinking human blood again?" "You aren't doubting the clan envoys sent to the human world, are you?" "I am just giving room to possibilities." Skyler shrugged. "That's not possible in any way." Nandini contradicted. "I agree there is a high possibility of the conversion power manifesting again but it would take time, a lot of time and a lot of sacrifices. May be a hundred years or even more and we have been here for just ten years." "It's just a possibility. So I am not sure either but one thing is s
"So this is your idea of escape?" "Not really." Nandini shrugged, stepping out of the car. "But isn't beach a perfect place to hang out in night for someone like you who doesn't like socializing." "I am not antisocial." "I didn't say that, did I? But isn't it true that you hate attending gatherings and parties?" "To some extent yes." he admitted, reaching her side. "Not all but I do hate attending showoff fiasco gatherings like the one that happened today." "But you still attended it. Like, why not just ignore it like Kai does?" she suggested, only to regret her words the very next moment. "I can't." he looked away from her. "I don't want people forgetting my mum. They say I resemble my mum a lot. So I want them to remember her. I want them to not forget that my mum existed in that very society. And I know I sound stupid and pathetic. But I want her to be remembered." "It's not stupid. It's really not." she assured. "I don't know." Shaking his head in denial, he slightly kick
An hour later after the 'Nothing's wrong' ruse of Sia, which should not have been that big of a deal, Nandini still couldn't get her mind off the fearful look that Sia had in her eyes. That look in Sia's eyes she had seen it before and she dreaded that look. 'Don't. Don't come near me. Y-You are a monster.' Those words rang in her ears yet again, making her shriek. She ran a hand through her hair, letting out a heavy breath. She didn't want anyone looking at her that way, never again. 'It was nothing. That look meant nothing. I am just overthinking.', she tried convincing herself for the umpteenth time only to fail miserably. Her hold on the open file on her lap tightened and the side of the file cover broke, breaking her trance. "Nandini!" Manik's concerned filled voice made her raise her head from the file, she had been holding, to him. "Are you okay?!" "Eh, yeah. But the cover..." sighing, she lifted the broken piece of the cover. " It's broken. I need to replace this." Placing
"So this happened before you arrived at the scene?" The police officer inquired. "Yes." Kai nodded. "Sh-She was lying unconscious right there." he pointed to the spot beside the bench where the stains of blood were still present. "Did you see anyone suspicious? Any animal? Person?" "I-I don't know. It was too dark. I just ru-rushed her inside." "Think again. Are you sure?" "No... I mean yes. I don't think I saw anyone." he vacillated. "Um, okay. Leave your contact information here. If needed we'll be contacting you for further inquiry later." The police officer said as he handed a paper to Kai. He mumbled a hasty okay before taking the paper. "Kai." Manik nudged him a bit. He raised his head from the paper to look at Manik. "You okay right?" He smiled faintly before nodding his head. "I am okay but-" he bleated, pointing towards his shirt with a pout. "I do need a shirt." His sea green shirt was almost soaked in blood from his collar to his sleeves. "I may have a spare shirt i
