“Keira , I just want to say how happy we all are that Dawson has found his mate. And how perfect you both are for each other.” Luna Bethany says with her sickly sweet smile. She raises her glass to cheers the two of them. The Luna is Dawson’s mother, and they have that weird over-attached mommy son relationship. It always gave Keira the creeps.

“Thank you so much. You all have been so warm and welcoming.” Keira says making sure to come off as genuine. She notices Dawson pouring himself another drink, this makes his sixth drink of the night. Dawson sees her glance and pours a little more out of spite. Keira looks away quickly hoping Dawson will forget the whole thing, but Keira is never that lucky.

When dinner is over, Dawson stops Keira on her way into the livingroom, letting everyone go before them

“Come with me.” He practically growls in her ear. He takes a firm grip on her arm and drags her upstairs to their bedroom. He locks the door before turning to her with rage in his eyes.

“You think I didn’t notice that look you gave me?” Dawson growls. He walks heavy steps towards Keira and she recoils backwards putting her hands up in defense.

“I didn’t give you any look.” She pleads while looking for an escape.

Dawson grabs Keira by the throat and pins her against the wall, knocking the back of her head against it.

“If you want to say something, then just say it.” Dawson says through clenched teeth. He tightens his grip around her neck. Keira is struggling to breathe. She can smell the strength of the alcohol on his breath. She claws at his hand trying to get free.

“Say it!” He shouts, spraying spit onto Keira’s face.

“Nothing. I wasn’t going to-“ Keira continues to struggle to speak. Dawson lifts her off the ground and slams her head into the wall again. Keira whimpers under her mates grip. He leans into her, his scent surrounding her. His scent used to bring her comfort, but right now she feels nothing but fear. She doesn’t know when it got so bad and why, but she knew she hated herself for being so weak. Then Keira’s savior, a knock at the bedroom door, interrupts Dawson’s cruel ritual.

“Go to the bathroom.” He demands after he releases her. Keira crumbles to the floor and takes a moment to breathe. He walks to the door and Keira rushes to the bathroom, closing the door behind her. Dawson opens it to his future Beta, Harrison.

“Alpha, is everything ok?” He asks. Harrison and Dawson have been best friends their entire lives. They grew up in the pack together, and they knew they’d be Alpha and Beta one day. And that day is coming up soon. Dawson is set to be the new Alpha now that he’s found his mate. Keira is beautiful and smart, her parents are Betas which will be good for their kids.

“Yeah man were good. Sorry, we were just having a disagreement.” Dawson rubs the back of his neck.

“Ok man, just take it easy on her. She’s only been here a few months.” Harrison knew Dawson had a dark side, but Keira’s his mate, that bond is different. Right?

“Yeah I know. Let me go play damage control.” They smile at each other and Dawson closes the door. He walks to the bathroom door and knocks gently.

“Keira, I’m sorry. Please open up. I’m really sorry.” Dawson stands outside the door. Keira is inside debating what to do. She looks at her neck and can tell there will be a bad bruise there tomorrow. If she opens the door, he could attack her again, but if she doesn’t he could get mad and break it down. She decides her best action is to avoid making Dawson upset. She gently opens the door and she sees Dawson standing there looking sad and regretful. Keira hides the disgust she’s feeling about his charade, and walks forward into the embrace of her mate.

When Keira first arrived to the pack as Dawson’s mate, things were great. They got to know each other. Dawson showered her with love and attention, they spent every night together, and Keira was blissful and serene as she pictured her idyllic future. Keira remembers thinking this is what mates should be. But it wasn’t long before she started noticing the drinking. It was only a few drinks here and there, and everyone had a few drinks. But each day it got worse and worse. When Dawson drinks he’d get more aggressive with her and others. No one in the pack said anything about it, so she didn’t think too much of it. After all Keira was busy learning about her new pack, getting introduced to the pack members, and figuring out what her new role in the pack will be. Dawson’s parents were very nice, warm, and welcoming, along with the rest of the pack. His father the Alpha was a bit hard on Dawson, but most Alphas are like that. She notices the Alpha drinks quite a bit also. Keira was so excited for her new life, that in the beginning she was willing to over look a few things. But as time went on things only got worse.

“Please, can we go to bed. I’m sorry.” Dawson asks her and holds out his hand. Dawson doesn’t want to fight with his mate, but sometimes when she looks at him, like he’s a disappointment to her, just like his father does, he loses control. His wolf is very strong and sometimes creeps out. Keira takes his hand and he leads her to bed. Dawson tries the kiss and make up tactic. And thanks to the mate bond, it’s hard for Keira to say no. His scent calms her and his soft touch tingles against her skin, sending waves of desire through her. This is her mate after all. Maybe they can make it through this together. Keira’s wolf Harper purrs in the delight of her mates touch. After they are done having make up sex, Keira can’t help but feel disgusted with herself. This man hurts her, and she is willing giving her body to him? She is ashamed, she knows she is stronger than this. But with her feeling of regret Keira also feels guilt. Guilty because everyone searches for their fated mate. Some never find them, the lucky ones do. But she doesn’t feel so lucky now. She lays in the bed until she hears Dawson fall asleep. Once she hears his repetitive snore, she slides out of bed and into the bathroom. She keeps the light off, so it won’t wake him. She crawls into the bath tub and silently cries. She doesn’t know how her life got this way. She feels trapped by the bond and scared of the day that there won’t be a knock at the door to save her.

Dawson is getting dressed.“I have to meet my father. But I’ll be down for breakfast.” He says. He kisses my cheek and heads out. I get dressed and dry my hair, then I head down to the dinning hall and find Sam and Cleo, two warrior friends I’ve made here.“Hey Luna.” Everyone calls me Luna now, it feels weird because they have a Luna.“Hey. Theo’s POVI’m in a tent meeting with my allied Alpha’s when Grace steps in. “Alpha Theo,” she nods to me then to the other Alphas, showing her respect for our positions. “Forget the formalities Grace. It’s not necessary.” I say. “What’s the news.” “Sir, Pale Moon is awake, our spies say it’s just a matter of waiting for their Alpha to give them the word.” Pale Moon Pack arrived a few miles outside of our borders late last night, before stopping to make camp and rest. A few of my men wanted to attack then, to have the element of surprise on our side, but I refused. There were still some of our women and children who hadn’t evacuated yet, I didn’t want to risk any lives unnecessarily. Our strategy in this battle is mostly defensive. “Get the warriors lined up and ready, I want my men on the left and right sides, intermixed with the allied forces. We’re going to funnel them forward, and hope that our endurance will out last theirs.“Dawson’s POV“Alpha, we should be coming up on t

  • Not My Alpha   Chapter 45

Keira’s POVWe arrive outside of Pale Moon pack’s territory, and I feel a mix of emotions. This is my first time returning to the pack that I thought was going to be my home for the rest of my life. The last time I was here I had just stabbed Dawson and ran away ready to spend the rest of my life in hiding, as an omega. Now I’m back, and I’m going to liberate this pack and everyone in it from that piece of shit I used to call ‘mate’.“Have we received any word on the Pale Moon warriors returning?” I ask Shepard.“No, no one has said anything.” I can tell he’s anxious about his pack. Cedar Creek is facing a large army without their beta, if Dawson attacks it’s going to really do some damage to their men. I reach out and grab his hand.“I’m sure they’ll be alright. Theo has support, and you said it yourself He knows how to strategize.” I say, squeezing his hand for comfort.“Keira, it looks like we’ll have to seize Pale Moon.” Fafnir says. He’s right. We haven’t heard back from Dawson

  • Not My Alpha   Chapter 43

Keira’s POVShepard and I make our way back into the pack house for the party. Thankfully no one really notices us come in, except for my mother who makes eyes at me from across the room. Her look tells me that she wants to know if I’ve cooled off since my little fit. I respond with only my face, saying that yes, I’m fine.My mother and I have always been able to communicate with one another without using words. It’s something special between us that I’ve always treasured. I follow behind Shepard as we make our way over to the refreshments. Shepard get us both a glass of champagne. I take a big swig as he and I mingle around. No one at the party asks about Shepard and I. Which is good because I wouldn’t even know how to answer them. I’m not entirely sure what to do about this whole Shepard situation. It’s too early for us to make anything official by going public, but I’m definitely not going to hide it either. Shepard deserves better than that. I finish my champagne and grab myself

Keira’s POVMason is standing there staring at us.“Mason-“ I start, but Mason cuts me off.“It looks like I am interrupting you guys, so I’m going to head back first.” Mason turns and hurries back to the pack house. “Mason.” I say again, but this time he ignores me.“So is that a bad thing?” Shepard asks.“Mason always had a crush on me. But it’s never been anything more than that. Ugh, like I didn’t have enough to think about.” Of course this has to happen now.“We should head back.” Shepard says. He starts walking back but I don’t want to follow him. When he realizes I’m standing still he turns to me. “I really don’t want to go back in there.” I say, whining. Shepard laughs. “You’re going to have to face it at some point, you may as well get it over with.” He says. I sigh. “Do you think my father’s right? I mean, now that I’ve calmed down, I can see how it could be perceived that I ran away from my fated mate to be with you.” I say. Of course it’s not true, but not everyone k

  • Not My Alpha   Chapter 41

Keira’s POVI wake up the next morning to an unfamiliar room. I sit up quickly, panicked, but quickly calm when I realize that I’m in Shepard’s cabin. I smile as I recall the events of last night. Shepard and I together.. the prospect of our future happiness brightens my smile to a laugh. Then I yawn and stretch, placing my feet on the cold wooden floor. I gaze around the creaky old cabin, when I realize for the first time that I’m alone. “Shepard?” I call his name, although I already know I’ll receive no response. This cabin is only one room, and I’m the only one in it. I wonder where he could’ve gone? I get up and see my clothes all neatly folded in a stack on the dining table. I chuckle again at this kind gesture from Shepard, and I take it as a sign that he just wanted to let me sleep in. I get dressed and make my way over to the pack house for breakfast. I walk into the cafeteria, and scan the room for Shepard, but I still don’t see him anywhere. “Good morning Keira.” I look o

Keira’s POV“I can’t believe he did all that to you.” Mason says to me. I just finished explaining to him and Lily what my life was really like with Dawson. “We can’t let that maniac continue to run rampant.” Lily says.“I agree. There has to be something we can do to stop him.” My father says. There’s a knock on the door of the office. Both my mother, father, and Mason all say come in at the same time. They share a few looks, technically this is my mother’s office but Mason is the acting alpha which is higher rank. A messenger walks in and bows. “What is it?” Alpha Mason asks. “A member of the werewolf council is here Alpha.” He says.“The werewolf council?” My mother says. “Oh yes, Alpha Theo said he was going to the werewolf council to tell them about Dawson’s crimes.” I say, “They must be here in regards to those claims.” Shepard adds. “Then let’s go see what he has to say about it all.” My father says. We all head out of the office and downstairs. I see a man with long blac

Keira’s POV“We’ve finally received word from the warriors!” Someone shouts as they burst through the doors of the dining hall. Shepherd and I standup, leaving our half eaten breakfasts behind, and head to my mother’s office. I knock on the door.“Come in.” She calls out. We walk in and see her sitting at her desk, still reading a piece of white paper.“I’m guessing you are here about this?” She says, pulling her glasses down from her nose and holding up the paper in her hands. “I’m not too keen on showing it to your friend, but here.” She holds it out to me. I walk over and take it from her. I start to read it and I’m shocked. Dawson killed Alpha Thorin in a challenge. I can’t believe it. My hand covers my mouth in shock. I feel a hand rubbing my back, it’s Shepard. The letter also says that Mason and Lily have been found and that Mason has taken on the role as Alpha now. They are headed back home and the don’t think they are being pursued by Pale Moon pack. At the end it says the

  • Not My Alpha   Chapter 38

Mason’s POVI feel a pain in my chest and then suddenly the voices of my pack come rushing in. They’re all crying out for my father, Alpha Thorin. I fall to my knees, and hold on tight to Lily as their cries continue to fill my head. The weight of their sorrow mixed with my own is almost too much to bear. But with my father’s last breath, I can feel my own wolf gaining strength. I’m next in line, I will be the new Alpha. I stand to my feet, pushing down the voices in my head. “I need to get to my pack now.” I say.“Head in that direction, that’s where your soldiers should be. We’re going to have to part ways here.” The man who rescued us says. I hurry and run as fast as my body will let me in the direction that he pointed. I can smell my pack’s scent getting stronger and stronger as I approach.“Halt!” I hear some one shout to me. I know it’s one of my own men.“It’s me, it’s Mason.” I reply. Some warriors come out from behind the trees. The looks on their faces tell me everything.

You think you’ll just be everyone’s Alpha? The council won’t allow that.” Dawson says.“I’ll give my son the Alpha position at Elk Forest. Then find a suitable replacement for me at Pale Moon. I trust my son to be a better Alpha. Your father knew you’d bring his pack down.” Dawson growls at Thorin.“Now accept my challenge, unless you’re scared.” “Alpha, do you believe this is the right move?” I ask him through mindlink. “If I win, I can save us from a war.” He says.“And if you lose? What will happen with the pack.” “Save Mason, he’ll be the new Alpha.” He replies.“But Alpha-“ he cuts off the mindlink. Dawson looks pissed off.“Fine, I accept. And after I win, my warriors will tear yours apart.” Dawson says. Thorin steps forward and meets Dawson in the middle. I can’t believe
