View MoreAsh sighed as he tied on his apron, washed his hands, and headed to the counter. Working at Ohm's Place at 20 was something he never really wanted. However, in order to pay for his college classes, he needed the money, and his brother, who is an Alpha who just happens to own the cafe, gave him the job a year ago. Ohm had taken over the cafe when he was 18 and Ash was 19. The owner before was getting pretty old, and when he retired, he handed over the Cafe to Ohm just like that. And of course, Ohm changed the name as well. And the funny part is that the owner is none other than their own Grandfather.
Ash's story is quite funny; when he presented as an omega at the age of thirteen, everything started to go downhill. His parents would never show him affection and only talk to him when he was told to do something, and the same goes for his grandfather. Ash wanted to make his parents proud of him, and he did everything he was asked. The Jameswood family was known for being alphas, and when word got out that the oldest child was an omega, it did not go very well. Whenever someone did something wrong, Ash was blamed, no matter who did it. When people asked Jia and Jones how their children were, they talked about Kara and Ohm but never Ash. After a while, Ash learned to accept that he would never be good enough for his parents. His siblings got him through because they loved and supported him, and they didn't care that he was an Omega.
When Ash turned 18, he moved out right away. He had done summer jobs and babysitting so he could save up to get his own place. After he moved into his new apartment, finding a job was a whole new issue. Hardly anyone would accept an Omega working for them, especially a male one. It would cause way too many distractions; that's what he was told anyway. His sister Kara, who was a year younger, helped Ash get money so he could pay his rent. He protested each time Kara would give him money, but she always shoved the money in his hands and told him that he would pay her back soon enough. Kara now works at her favorite clothing store and does modeling gigs on the side, which pays very well.
Once Ash got to the counter, he noticed Ohm walk in and turn the closed sign to open. The cafe opened at 8 a.m., and it was usually the busiest time. People who had work would stop by to get coffee, and students who lived close by would get coffee as well and maybe a muffin or something. Ash nodded at Ohm, and Ohm nodded back as he walked into the back room. When Ohm walked over to the counter, he looked over at Ash and grinned. That was never a good sign.
"What?" Ash asked, raising an eyebrow.
"The run is two days away. Are you excited?" Ohm asked.
Ohm had found his mate at the mating run four years ago with another Alpha named Jessica. It was unusual for two Alphas to get together because usually their personalities wouldn't clique and they would fight for dominance. However, the two seemed to go together perfectly. Kara had found her mate in a boy named Simon three years ago, who was a beta.
Ash loved his siblings; he really did. But it hurt when he saw that his siblings were happy with their friends. No one has ever wanted Ash, well, like that anyway. Sure, people wanted Ash, but that was only to have sex because most people thought that's what Omega was only good for, and Ash being very attractive was no help.
"You ask this every year. Oh, and every year I say the same thing. No." Ash sighed as he wiped down the counters.
"Ash..." Ohm sighed.
"It's whatever, Ohm. I've gone to this thing since I was 13, and no one has ever wanted me." Ash replied.
Ohm was about to respond when customers came barging into the cafe.
"We're not done talking about this," Ohm mumbled as Ash started to take people's orders.
Thirty minutes later, the crowd died down, but it was still pretty busy. Ash was busy fixing someone a coffee when he heard Ohm mumble, "Oh no."
Ash turned around and handed the customer their coffee. He then looked over at Ohm and saw him glaring at something, or more like someone. Following Ohm's eyes, he saw none other than Seth walk in. Ash hated the guy. Seth would always make creepy comments about Ash. Seth was an alpha, and the three of them and Kara had gone to high school together. Ever since Seth saw Ash for the first time, he would always bother her, and most of the time it made her very uncomfortable.
"I can take his order if you want," Ohm said.
Ash sighed. "No, it's fine. You're faster at making drinks anyway, and we have a hold-up."
"Are you sure? Ash, I don't want him near you." Ohm said it using his Alpha tone.
Ash whimpered and flinched slightly. When an Alpha would use their Alpha voice around an Omega, it would make the Omega want to give in and submit.
"I'll be fine, Ohm," Ash said, clenching his jaw. He wasn't weak, and he didn't need an Alpha protecting him all the time.
"Okay, buddy," Ohm said, turning around to start making more caffeine-related drinks.
Seth was next in line, and when he got to the counter, he smirked at Ash as he looked at the Omega up and down. Ash was wearing a black beanie, a white t-shirt that hugged his biceps, and black skinny jeans. It was Ohm who came up with the uniform. White t-shirts and black skinny jeans. Ash didn't like it at all, but since it was Ohm Cafe, he wore it anyway.
"Hello, they're gorgeous. It smells lovely in here...or is that just your scent?" Seth purred.
Every Omega had a unique scent. To some people, their scent smelled heavenly, and to others, it smelled horrible. It depended on the person. However, to most people, Ash's scent was on the heavenly side. He smelled like vanilla with chocolate chip cookies, along with the smell of rain. To some people, it would sound weird that those things would smell good together, but they did.
"What can I get you, Seth?" Ash asked, rolling his eyes.
Seth raised an eyebrow and shook his head. "Has anyone ever told you that you shouldn't use such an attitude towards an Alpha?"
Ash sighed. "If you don't want anything, then get out of line."
"I actually don't want anything. I just wanted to say that I'm looking forward to the run." And with that, Seth was gone.
Ash paled. Seth had never attended the runs, so why now? Ash looked over at Ohm, who was watching him from the corner of his eye. Ohm nodded at Ash, and Ash took off his apron and headed into the backroom to try not to get himself worked up and cause himself a panic attack.
After a while, there were no customers in line, so Ohm headed to the back room to check on his brother and best friend. Ash was sitting in one of the chairs with his elbows on his knees and his head in his hands.
"Ash, are you alright?"
Ash's head jolted up. "No. I'm fucking not alright."
"He won't get to you. The woods are pretty big, Ash."
Ash rolled his eyes. "That doesn't mean anything when he knows my scent, Ohm."
Ohm sighed. "Okay. How about when I close the cafe, we get out of here and go for a run? Tomorrow we can figure something out, okay?"
"Sounds good," Ash said, nodding.
Ohm smiled. "Great, now let's get back to work."
Theo’s POVI’m in a tent meeting with my allied Alpha’s when Grace steps in. “Alpha Theo,” she nods to me then to the other Alphas, showing her respect for our positions. “Forget the formalities Grace. It’s not necessary.” I say. “What’s the news.” “Sir, Pale Moon is awake, our spies say it’s just a matter of waiting for their Alpha to give them the word.” Pale Moon Pack arrived a few miles outside of our borders late last night, before stopping to make camp and rest. A few of my men wanted to attack then, to have the element of surprise on our side, but I refused. There were still some of our women and children who hadn’t evacuated yet, I didn’t want to risk any lives unnecessarily. Our strategy in this battle is mostly defensive. “Get the warriors lined up and ready, I want my men on the left and right sides, intermixed with the allied forces. We’re going to funnel them forward, and hope that our endurance will out last theirs.“Dawson’s POV“Alpha, we should be coming up on t
Keira’s POVWe arrive outside of Pale Moon pack’s territory, and I feel a mix of emotions. This is my first time returning to the pack that I thought was going to be my home for the rest of my life. The last time I was here I had just stabbed Dawson and ran away ready to spend the rest of my life in hiding, as an omega. Now I’m back, and I’m going to liberate this pack and everyone in it from that piece of shit I used to call ‘mate’.“Have we received any word on the Pale Moon warriors returning?” I ask Shepard.“No, no one has said anything.” I can tell he’s anxious about his pack. Cedar Creek is facing a large army without their beta, if Dawson attacks it’s going to really do some damage to their men. I reach out and grab his hand.“I’m sure they’ll be alright. Theo has support, and you said it yourself He knows how to strategize.” I say, squeezing his hand for comfort.“Keira, it looks like we’ll have to seize Pale Moon.” Fafnir says. He’s right. We haven’t heard back from Dawson
Keira’s POVShepard and I make our way back into the pack house for the party. Thankfully no one really notices us come in, except for my mother who makes eyes at me from across the room. Her look tells me that she wants to know if I’ve cooled off since my little fit. I respond with only my face, saying that yes, I’m fine.My mother and I have always been able to communicate with one another without using words. It’s something special between us that I’ve always treasured. I follow behind Shepard as we make our way over to the refreshments. Shepard get us both a glass of champagne. I take a big swig as he and I mingle around. No one at the party asks about Shepard and I. Which is good because I wouldn’t even know how to answer them. I’m not entirely sure what to do about this whole Shepard situation. It’s too early for us to make anything official by going public, but I’m definitely not going to hide it either. Shepard deserves better than that. I finish my champagne and grab myself
Keira’s POVMason is standing there staring at us.“Mason-“ I start, but Mason cuts me off.“It looks like I am interrupting you guys, so I’m going to head back first.” Mason turns and hurries back to the pack house. “Mason.” I say again, but this time he ignores me.“So is that a bad thing?” Shepard asks.“Mason always had a crush on me. But it’s never been anything more than that. Ugh, like I didn’t have enough to think about.” Of course this has to happen now.“We should head back.” Shepard says. He starts walking back but I don’t want to follow him. When he realizes I’m standing still he turns to me. “I really don’t want to go back in there.” I say, whining. Shepard laughs. “You’re going to have to face it at some point, you may as well get it over with.” He says. I sigh. “Do you think my father’s right? I mean, now that I’ve calmed down, I can see how it could be perceived that I ran away from my fated mate to be with you.” I say. Of course it’s not true, but not everyone k
Keira’s POVI wake up the next morning to an unfamiliar room. I sit up quickly, panicked, but quickly calm when I realize that I’m in Shepard’s cabin. I smile as I recall the events of last night. Shepard and I together.. the prospect of our future happiness brightens my smile to a laugh. Then I yawn and stretch, placing my feet on the cold wooden floor. I gaze around the creaky old cabin, when I realize for the first time that I’m alone. “Shepard?” I call his name, although I already know I’ll receive no response. This cabin is only one room, and I’m the only one in it. I wonder where he could’ve gone? I get up and see my clothes all neatly folded in a stack on the dining table. I chuckle again at this kind gesture from Shepard, and I take it as a sign that he just wanted to let me sleep in. I get dressed and make my way over to the pack house for breakfast. I walk into the cafeteria, and scan the room for Shepard, but I still don’t see him anywhere. “Good morning Keira.” I look o
Keira’s POV“I can’t believe he did all that to you.” Mason says to me. I just finished explaining to him and Lily what my life was really like with Dawson. “We can’t let that maniac continue to run rampant.” Lily says.“I agree. There has to be something we can do to stop him.” My father says. There’s a knock on the door of the office. Both my mother, father, and Mason all say come in at the same time. They share a few looks, technically this is my mother’s office but Mason is the acting alpha which is higher rank. A messenger walks in and bows. “What is it?” Alpha Mason asks. “A member of the werewolf council is here Alpha.” He says.“The werewolf council?” My mother says. “Oh yes, Alpha Theo said he was going to the werewolf council to tell them about Dawson’s crimes.” I say, “They must be here in regards to those claims.” Shepard adds. “Then let’s go see what he has to say about it all.” My father says. We all head out of the office and downstairs. I see a man with long blac
