Chapter 8

The car behind me sped up, and even though the driver slammed on the brakes, I was still hit, tumbling over and over.

Chris abandoned his car in the middle of the road and rushed over to me. He frantically lifted me up. “Emily! Don’t die! I’m taking you to the hospital right now!”

Blood trickled from the corner of my mouth, and I couldn’t speak.

My whole body was in pain, but I felt strangely at peace.

If I died like this, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.

When I opened my eyes, the first person I saw was Chris.

His hair was disheveled, and his white shirt was stained with blood, looking completely drained.

Seeing me awake, he let out a sigh of relief, but then snapped angrily, “You don’t even care about your own life, and you blame others for hating you? If you died, you’d have no one to blame but yourself!”

I looked at him and let out a weak laugh. “My fault? Then why did you save me? Just let me die already.”

Chris’s face turned a furious shade of gray.
