After that text I couldn’t sleep, I didn’t reply and wouldn’t. I changed my phone number when I moved and I haven’t given it to anyone besides the hospital, the children services worker who helped me get out, my employment insurance worker and my father.

I unpacked our hospital bags as I waited for my father to come back, I felt my phone vibrate again and I looked at it nervously,

Dad: Will be there soon, giving you a heads up so you can start unlocking your locks ahead of time so your food doesn’t get cold.

I laughed, how I missed my father’s humor. I walked over the door and unlocked my deadbolts, as I seen my father walk in with a large box and several bags.

“What is this dad?” I was eyeing him down.

He shrugged his shoulders, “Just a few gifts for my grandson, you can’t do it all by yourself Kay. So what is going on with you and Darren? Does he have visitation or help out?”

I shook my head, “I ran dad. I couldn’t take it anymore, I rented a truck and hauled as much stuff as I could and ran away from it all. Darren doesn’t know anything or where we are. Can you please keep my address to yourself even the city name.”

My dad nodded, “I’m here for you Kay, you can come stay with me. I’m in the big house on my own, I’d be happy to have you two with me!”

I was happy to hear my dad wanted us to live with him and even if I wanted too I knew Darren has been there and he would eventually check there for us

“I can’t risk it, he knows where you live dad. I just want to hide out and try to give Jeremy the best life possible.”

My dad nodded, “OK but Kay let me help you out, I got Jeremy so many cute outfits, I didn’t quite plan to spend that much but it was too easy. I got him a new bed, some formula and diapers. And just anything I thought you needed. When the little guy wakes up let me get you some groceries, I can’t leave here knowing you don’t got anything. Your my daughter Kay I know when you lie.”

I felt my heart get heavy, I’ve been on my own for a while now and after everything I’ve put my father through I was surprised he wanted to help me.

Flashback

My phone rang, I saw it was my father. He hasn’t called me in a while,

“Hey Dad what’s up?”

“Kay, are you fucking kidding me. Do you have something you need to say?”

I shook my head, I didn’t exactly know what he was talking about.

“I’m sorry dad, I don’t exactly know what you are talking about?”

“I got a call from my credit card company, the card I gave you for emergencies and emergencies only has been maxed out!”

My dad gave me one of his credit cards when I moved on my own for emergencies in which I rarely used unless it was of dire need. I felt guilty using it and I would always text him and say sorry. Usually it was for a bit of groceries or some gas, but maybe only a handful of times.

“That’s impossible dad, I haven’t used it in months dad, it’s in my wallet.”

“That’s bullshit Kay, go check your wallet cause it was used at ATMs all over Lansing. That was 10,000 that was taken out just in a few days! And several large purchases! I have the damn list right here.”

I walked over to my wallet and opened it and the card was know where to be found. I looked in every compartment hoping it got misplaced. I didn’t have anyone near my wallet besides me and Darren. I immediately knew Darren had something to do with it.

“It’s not here dad, let me look around. I’m not sure where it is dad, maybe someone took it. Can you report fraud on it?”

“It’s hard to report fraud when the person knew the fucking pin Kay. Did you give your prince charming the pin cause I’m assuming this is his doing. I’m right aren’t I?”

I remembered back a few months ago I was really sick and asked Darren to take it to the ATM and take out $20 for some medicine I gave him the pin and I didn’t even think about that. I immediately lied to my father,

“Nope I wouldn’t give that to him, let me see what I can do on this end dad.”

“No need It’s already being investigated, they are pulling up security footage. For your sake Kay I hope it’s not him, I will press charges and he will spend more time behind bars.”

The call went dead, I starred back at my phone. I immediately dialed Darren’s number, no surprise when the phone went straight to voice-mail.

I looked through my phone when I saw I had a email from my bank, my bank account was in overdraft by $500. I just had $800 in there, I looked over the charges, all ATMs.

I looked into my wallet all my cards where in its place, I took each of them out one by one and checked each of them, they were all maxed out. After losing my job, I was paying for everything with my savings and Darren didn’t contribute anything it was all me and now he took everything I had and even put me in debt.

I picked my phone up and sent Darren a text, he can’t ignore those.

K: You have until 9 am tomorrow morning to show up here and talk to me before I call the cops and have them investigate my missing money.

What I didn’t expect was his reaction.

I woke up to my phone ringing, it was really late. I sat up looking around when I saw Jeremy begin to move, I grabbed my phone quickly and answered before even looking at the caller ID,“Hello, is this Kay Myles?”“Hi, yes it is can I help you?” my voice was muffled as I just woke up, I glance at the clock and it was 3 in the morning.“Ms Myles, I am calling from the Mexican border patrol, I was just calling to let you know we have arrested a Darren Spencer. He asked we give you a call so you would not worry. He is in custody and will be detained at Sonora Correctional Centre if you wish to contact him.”I was a bit taken back, why would he ask them to contact me. I shook my head,“What did he get arrested for?”“He was found with several narcotics trying to come into Mexico.”I shook my head, of course he was. Why would he want me to hear this. I thanked the man and hung up, this wasn’t the first time he was arrested.FlashbackI had just found out about Darren emptying my account an

I didn’t know what to say to him, I was completely speechless.“How about I talk and you can listen. I’m looking at about 5 years for this. The lawyer I met with this morning told me he thinks he can get me off with a promise to not return into Mexico but it could take a year or two to get there.”I still didn’t say anything, I listened to his hurt voice as he tried to explain everything to me.“I love you so much Kay, you have no idea how crazy I went when you left. Tomorrow was the day my dad was supposed to be coming home, I was looking forward to seeing him again. I definitely needed a distraction after days of contemplating if I should write Darren or not. My head said no while my heart was begging me too.Jeremy was starting to sleep a bit better, so I was feeling more rested and like myself. Instead of being up every 2 hours, sometimes he would sleep 4 hours at a time which was amazing. My phone rang, I glanced down at the caller ID, it was the jail again. He has called me every single day since we talked but I felt guilty knowing those talks were costing him food. I have ignored each of his calls since then, I looked over at Jeremy who had his big brown eyes open suddenly,“Good morning handsome”He gave me a big gummy smile, I loved when he smiled at me although I’m pretty sure it was just gas.I decided to take him out for a walk, we haven’t really been out much and I was beginning to feel down. I sent you some pictures in the letter so you could see him. I am sorry for the way things worked out but I can’t do this anymore, our son deserves better.’I left it at that, who even writes letters anymore, and what was I supposed to say to him. I put the letter in the envelope along with some pictures.I took Jeremy out and went to the mail, dropping the letter in there, once I got home I was receiving a call from the jail,“Hello?” “Hey, thank you for sending me money.”“Yeah I thought you weren’t going to call constantly, I wrote you a letter so you don’t need to call constantly ok”“Thank you, I just wanted to try it out make sure it worked, I got a few things from can

I decided to write another letter to Darren,‘Hey, there’s something I want to ask you, I want an honest answer. Have you ever cheated on me? I keep thinking about it, I want you to know I’ve never cheated on you. You made me feel so shitty about myself when I was pregnant and I’ve never done anything. I really loved you a lot Darren, I always have and I think I always will.If you ever want things to work out we need to talk more and work some things out. As we entered the house, I glanced everywhere it was literally perfect, he listened to every think I liked and didn’t like from every house we looked at. I couldn’t stop smiling as I made my way to each room.I felt tears coming down my cheeks as I pulled Ian closely, “Thank you babe.”He hugged me back, “Maybe we will get luckier here trying to make a family, we have 1 less thing to stress about now.”And that’s the first thing we did, we stripped our clothing off and tried our luck as we had hot crazy sex all over the new house. We spent the next few days planning our move and picking colors and every chance we got we would try our luck in the new house. Once we got back home we posted Ian’s house for sale and it sold immediately. I was so anxious to pick the boys up and show them the house, as I got there I was so happy and Steve noticed.“Was it a good few days?” He asked me giving me a curious look.I nodded, “Yes Ian got my dream house built for us. I couldn’t hide my smile as I thanked her and walked back to his room. I sat patiently as I waited for him to get out. He came in walking a bit funny as I began to laugh,“Are you okay babe?”He gave me a awkward smile, “Yeah I’m just numb and it feels so weird.”I got up and gave him a tender kiss on his lips as he kissed me back, “I hear you went for the procedure.”He nodded, “Don’t get upset though if it doesn’t work Kay, the odds are really slim, promise?”I smiled and nodded, “It’s fine if it

  • My son's father   Chapter 124: Being Friends

Ian explained to us how when he used to have the odd run ins with Will he was usually just there, never anything to get him for even though he heard rumors he was a assassin there was never any proof. The last time he spoke to Darren , Darren mentioned Will was in there and was trying to bribe him into helping him out of there. Obviously he denied and I guess Darren put a hit on him.Although these were all theories there was no hard evidence of any of this being true although Will would be incarcerated for quite some time after this.We spent the next few days in the hospital as Ian was doing amazing, he was beginning to slowly get around the room and go for small walks around the hallways. I was constantly with him, I was terrified to leave his side. The last day in the hospital Ian had several tests to do before they would release him so I took a bit of time to go check on the boys. I was really excited to see them, it’s been a while since I saw them.I drove over to mine and St

I followed the nurse to the room, I saw Ian’s body laying on the bed. There was no movement and he was extremely pale. I slowly walked over as I glanced at the monitor I was trying to memorize all the numbers to keep an eye on them. I grabbed Ian’s hand when I noticed his ring was gone, I looked at the nurse,“Where’s his ring?”She gave me apologetic look, “I’m sorry ma’am it’s in his possessions, we had to remove it for surgery once he’s awake we can put it back on.”I nodded and gave her a smile, I noticed she was optimistic also. Once she left the room I sat there and starred at him he looked so peaceful, I looked at the monitor several times waiting for something to change. I began to talk to him,“Hey baby, I’m here. Your out of surgery now and you did so good. Besides dying on me several times but you came back so your forgiven. Now I need you to open those beautiful eyes of yours and come back to me. I heard his sister say, “Cassie, what the fuck is going on? Did I hear right? My brother was getting married when this happened?”The officer glared at me and nodded as she gave her a hug. His sister backed away as she continued, “I guess congratulations Cassie, I always knew you two would work it out. There was a man standing there, he began to unbutton Ian’s shirt,“I am a physician at the local hospital ma’am, we need to see where the wound is.”I began to nod, I was in such shock I don’t think I could speak or move or cry.
