Standing on the sidewalk, there's a girl waving for a taxi ready to leave this city. As the wind blows stronger, she grips on her thick coat, waiting for that yellow car to turn around. Soon, it came. The taxi driver quickly got down and helped her with my luggage, then he politely opened the door for her.
"To the airport, miss?"
She wouldn't be surprised when he asked her that question. Normally anyone looking at her will probably think the same as him.
A little girl less than 5'7. A big wool oatmeal beanie covers her long dark golden hair. Her brown leather coat is long enough to cover her own black boots. Luggage full of her hands. She even has a big red scarf around her neck. Her aquamarine eyes spark with excitement like she's ready for her adventure anytime now.
If she were another person, looking at the girl like that, she would properly think the same as him.
This girl is going somewhere far and she needs to get to the airport.
Too bad! She is not like any other girls. One of the main reasons is she can't stand planes. She has some psychological problems and one of them is she affairs of height.
"No, haha! I can't stand planes. Please take me to this address!"
She said as she handed him a piece of paper.
"To another city? That'll be a long way. Ya sure ya don't wanna catch something like a boat perhaps?"
Continuing shaking her head, she gave him a no as a reply. Boat may help her get there much faster. And she really does want to get there faster. But as someone said to her long ago: "Sometimes you need to slow down a bit! You always take things too fast. You'll never understand the meaning of other little details making your life bright!".
That led her to this. Sitting inside this taxi to go to another city.
Lydia tilted her head leaning on the taxi's window. It's cloudy outside. A lot of people said a sky that cloudy is not a sign of luck. But she pretty much don't care.
Because today is her big day. She's finally become a freshman at Acadia College. Acadia is a medic school. Every year, they only open 700 slots for new students. This year, she's lucky to be one of those 700. How can she not be pleased? After 6 years studying hard. 6 years unable to meet them, her childhood friends, frequently. She is finally able to reunite with them.
She giggled as she put on her earphones and started to play her favorite song. After today, things are gonna get hard. But she knows she'll make it. Because she's Lydia Hayes, the girl who is not affair of anything.
The taxi keep on going about 5 hours more when it finally reaches a beautiful villa. It's a huge modern mansion with a colorful garden filled with anemone and camelia. She knows they live in a huge mansion but when she finally sees it with her own eyes, she's still surprised by the fact that this place is even much more beautiful than I ever imagined.
Getting out of the car, she stood there with her luggage, speechless for a moment. But, she's already here. So she came in front of the gate and rang the bell. No sooner, a boy with brown curly fringe opened the door. His blue eyes widened in surprise when he saw her.
"Lydia? Dia? What on earth are you doing here at this time?"
He said as he opened the door for her.
His name is Luciano Lancaster. He's 5 years older than her. And he's one of the two childhood friends.
"Luca!"
She calls out his name and clinging to his neck.
"It's been a long time since I last saw you so don't be such a bully!"
Letting go of him, she crossed her arm around her chest as I said. It's been a year since she last saw him when he returned to our hometown last holiday. He's also a student from Acadia. Due to his schedule, they really don't have time to talk much after he turned 18 and moved in here.
"I can't reach you two on the phone so I did leave a voice message saying that I'll arrive one week early. Don't tell me that neither off you check it out!"
Luciano scratches his head as she said. He looks at her awkwardly.
"We… you know… we have been a little bit busy lately… Hey, come on in! I'll help you with your luggage!"
Said Luciano when he stepped out and picked her luggage up. He's still the same as always. Kind but shy. She can't help but giggle a little bit.
"Thanks, Luca! By the way, where's Ray?"
"Ray? He's sleeping in his room!"
"It's 2:00 p.m already! Is his work that busy?"
"Yeah, he didn't get any sleep till 5 in the morning!"
"Oh my!"
She tilted my head a little bit when having a small chat with Luciano about Ray.
Ray. Raylan Lancaster. He's 9 years older than her. He's also her childhood friend and he's Luciano's half-brother. After Ray's mother died in a car accident for 3 years, his father remarried. And one year later, Luciano came to this world. They may only be half-brothers but growing up with them helps her know that their bond is as strong as ever.
This present is a perfect example for their bond. Ray is now a professor at Acadia. Luca is a postgraduate there. And together they live peacefully in this villa.
"Sorry we didn't check those voicemails. If we knew it sooner, we would have made something and thrown you a welcome party!"
"Oh? You two finally know how to microwave a cold pizza?"
She smirked as she heard Luca say they'll make something for her. The Lancaster brothers in front of other people is all so perfect. But little did they know, these brothers still have things they can't do and one of them is cooking.
"Hey, at least we try, okay?"
Luca sighed, unhappy with my comment.
"Fine! Fine! Then, are you free at the moment? If you do, can you drive her to the nearest store? I'll pick up something and make dinner tonight!"
"You should have a rest. It's 5 hours driving. We can't let a girl do all the work! We'll eat out tonight!"
"But I wanted to! Com'on now Luca! You aren't going to deny a girl's request, aren't you?"
Lydia shows Luca her puppy eyes with a little teary on it. After all, she knows Luca will never say no to this face. And just like she expected, he sighs. But then he grabs his key on the table and then turns to her.
"Let's go!"
She clapped her hand eagerly as she followed him to his car.
Luciano sits behind the wheel and soon, he drives us away. Lydia silently sits beside him. But her hazel eyes spark as she's longing to explore this new city. Yet, Luciano hasn't started the car."What's wrong?"She asked.Hearing her question, he sights once again."Your sit bell."He replies as he reaches out to her and helps her put it on. Having him so close, she can smell his shampoo. Unlike his shyly looking, he smelled like mint. Fresh and so new. She never knew he could be this quite handsome. Guess time can change people.Luciano in her memory is a timid boy, all shy and never dare to talk to any girl beside her."I'm so proud of you! You've grown into a gentleman!"His face twists a little bit when he hears her comment. "Even though I know it's your compliment, I'm not sure if I can be happy with that. I've always been a gentleman, you know!"He started the car as he was complaining. "And if you think I have changed that much, wait until you meet Ray!"Her eyes lift up a l
"Hey, Dia? Dia? Earth to Dia?"Luciano yells and waves his hand in front of Lydia. And it took her a while to realize that."Huh? Oh? Yes?"Lydia doesn't know how much time she went deep in her thoughts. But looking at his face, she guesses it's quite sometimes. Enough for him to get worried and go pale."You okay?"He asked. She knows she should say something but in the end, she doesn't know what else she can say. She's afraid of changing. She's afraid they three can't stay the same as they were when they were kids. She can't bring them up to her mouth. After all, they're changing doesn't mean what they had is all fake. She's just scared that those days can't continue even when she moves in with them. But she can't tell Luciano that… she can't let his mood down just because of her silly thoughts. "It's okay! Let's get home!"Luciano's eyes froze a little bit but then he said nothing more. After he paid for all the food, he drove her home and they didn't have a word since then.Outs
After finally being left alone in the kitchen, Lydia started to cook right away. She chops the carrots by using the diagonal cut and then she chops the potatoes while still boiling a pot of water in order to make some stock. She doesn't waste any second turning in the kitchen doing this and that.Lydia actually enjoys cooking. Even if a long 5 hours trip does really make her tired, cooking can give her all the relaxation she needs. Soon, she finally finished tonight's dinner for her and Luciano. She has spare dishes for Raylan in case he still can make it home tonight. "Dinner is ready!"Lydia calls out to Luciano who is still in the living room. Hearing her voice, he quickly pops his head into the kitchen."Smell so good! What are we having tonight?""Veggies soup and grilled chicken! Hope you like it!"Luciano's smile twisted a little bit. Not only their attitudes are the same but now also their appetite? Luciano can't tell if they are meaning so or that it's just all coincidental
But wait… something like arms around her…? She's in the room all alone. How can there be something like arms around her?She startles then immediately wakes up as she pushes that warmed thing.A loud sound like something heavy echoes around the room, followed after is the voice of someone yelling ouch.Lydia quickly turns on the light and hides under the blanket. She covers the blanket almost her whole body, only leaving her eyes left to observe. On the floor, there's a guy with blonde curly hair. He's tall and thin. His glasses are not adjusted. And he is still wearing a lab coat. In Lydia's eyes he's still somewhat half asleep. "Wait… Ray?"Lydia opens her eyes wide as if she can't believe the fact in front of her."Was it you all along?""Urgh… Lyly?"Raylan is still on the floor. He scratches his head. Looking straight into his eyes, everybody can tell that he's not wide awake yet."I must be still dreaming… How can she be here at this moment…"Raylan muttered. He still doesn't k
That night, Lydia and Raylan both have a dream. A dream about what happened months ago, her and Raylan's first reunion. At that time, it was nearly the end of Lydia's final high school semester and she decided to get out of town for once in a while. Of course, Raylan's town is too far for her to visit all alone. Especially when she didn't have a driver's license yet. She decided to stop at the brand new open coffee shop in the town next to hers. Her friends kept telling her how amazing cakes at that shop are. So she thought maybe she would give it a go. Even though sweets are never Lydia's favorite. She loves bitter things like original tea or coffee. But her childhood with Raylan, changed her taste. Raylan, on the other hand, is a sweet tooth kind of guy. He usually hides candies in his pocket without telling anyone except Lydia. To him, eating candy in front of others can ruin his mature image that he worked so hard to build. So he hardly eats any candies publicly. But being with
