Chapter 35

Bryan's POV

The scent of the early morning sun wafted through my nose as I laid tired on the bed.

I blinked my eyes open and was surprised to find myself alone in the bed, Emelda's side of the mattress empty, the sheets still imprinted with the shape of her body.

Reaching for my phone, I checked the time, surprised to see that it was just past seven.

I thought I had overslept, yesterday was indeed a handful.

She must have woken up early, I thought to myself, feeling a sense of unease as I sat up in bed, my mind racing as I tried to figure out where she would be.

As I sat there, the memory of Emelda's crying from the night before became fresh in my mind.

I had come in to get my phone, thinking she would be asleep. I came in quietly but my heart shattered when I saw her face all buried in the pillow as she sobbed quietly.
