"You don't know?" Michael chuckled, but there was nothing warm or reassuring in the sound. It was laced with a cold edge that sent a shiver down my spine. His eyes narrowed as he continued, "You never thought about what would happen when we met again? When you chose to escape, did you not think about the consequences of being caught by me? Or were you so certain that I would never find you?"

His tone grew increasingly dangerous, and I instinctively knew that anything I said would only make matters worse. So, I stayed silent, my heart pounding in my chest.
