"Mom, doesn’t my skin look even more yellow? I feel like I’m turning into pure gold!"

"Yes, yes, Sharon! I’d say you’re carrying our golden blessed child!”

I opened my eyes in shock and saw my mom holding a large bowl of chicken soup, doting on my sister-in-law.

When Sharon Fox noticed me, she quickly handed me the bowl. "Fiona, you drink this first. Even if I’m carrying a golden blessed child, you’ll always be our family’s sweetheart."

I glanced at the oily broth floating in the clear soup and raised an eyebrow at her. "I’m going to the hospital for a check-up. Are you coming?"

My mom’s expression changed instantly. She rushed to stop Sharon from getting up. "You mustn’t go to places like that. What if it offends the blessed child? How will we ever get rich then?"

Sharon’s eyes flashed with a trace of defiance, but she quickly replaced it with a smile. "I’d love to go with you, Fiona, but hospitals are just so inconvenient for someone like me."

She leaned back into the sofa, looking comfortable. "Oh, and don’t forget to pick up some fruit on your way back. Thanks, Fiona."

With that, my mom rushed to the kitchen and returned with another large bowl of chicken, this one brimming with meat, and placed it in front of Sharon.

Watching them, I shifted my gaze back to the bowl of soup they had given me earlier—clear and transparent without a single shred of meat in it.

Yet they always claimed I was the family’s favorite.

Without another word, I turned and left, hailing a cab to the hospital on my own.

In my last life, I treated Sharon like a real sister. I encouraged her to follow proper prenatal care, even taking her to the hospital for a check-up despite my mom and brother’s objections.

The results? My baby was perfectly healthy, but Sharon wasn’t pregnant at all—she was carrying a malignant tumor.

My mom and brother, blinded by superstition, were convinced that Sharon’s increasingly yellow complexion meant she was carrying a golden blessed child. Ignoring all reasoning, they insisted on sending her back to the countryside to rest and prepare for childbirth.

After ten long months, I endured a harrowing labor, barely escaping death’s door, only to be told by my mom that my baby was stillborn.

Then Sharon returned from the countryside, cradling a plump, fair-skinned baby girl.

Sensing that something was deeply wrong, I immediately demanded a DNA test for Sharon and the baby. To appease me, they readily agreed.

But on the night before the test, my mom and brother smothered me to death with a pillow.

After killing me, they wasted no time cremating my body and seizing all my assets.

It was only in death that I finally understood the truth. The mother who always claimed to love me unconditionally, who insisted she didn’t favor sons over daughters, had never seen me as anything more than a tool to extract wealth from my in-laws.

They purposely sown discord between me and my in-laws, terrified that if I walked away, their only source of exploitation would vanish.

The sheer thought of it made me tremble with rage.

If they cherished Sharon’s so-called "golden blessed child" so much, this time I’d make sure to uncover whether that blessed child would bring fortune or disaster.

After a thorough check-up confirmed that my baby was perfectly healthy, I finally felt at ease and headed home. The moment I walked through the door, Sharon’s greedy eyes darted to my hands. Seeing that they were empty, she frowned and sank back into the couch. "Fiona, honestly, you’re a grown woman. How do you always come home empty-handed? I’m only saying this because we’re close. Next time, you should—oh!" Before she could finish, she clutched her stomach and let out a groan. My mom, alarmed, rushed over to the couch and pressed her ear to Sharon’s belly. "Let me listen! What’s wrong with my precious grandson?" In just a few moments, Sharon’s once rosy complexion turned pale. "It hurts so much! Take me to the hospital. I feel like I’m dying!" Hearing that, my mom’s face clouded with disapproval. "How many times have I told you? That’s the reincarnation of a golden blessed child in there. We can’t take him to a filthy place like a hospital. And stop comparing yourself to

Sharon dragged me to the largest supermarket in the city, piling the shopping cart high with expensive, gourmet ingredients as if they were free. I waved it off without a care and paid for everything. On the way home, I reminded her with a cheerful tone, "You’re carrying the golden blessed child, the pride of our family. Make sure Mom prepares all this properly for you." Stuffing a spoonful of her dessert parfait into her mouth, Sharon nodded eagerly. "Don’t worry, Fiona. You’ll always be the family’s favorite. Even the little golden nephew wouldn’t dare outshine you!"Under my and Mom’s dedicated care, Sharon’s belly swelled rapidly, as if inflated like a balloon. Even my usually indifferent brother couldn’t help but comment when he saw her. "You and Fiona got pregnant around the same time, so how is your belly twice the size of hers?" Sharon playfully smacked his arm, clearly annoyed. "I’m carrying the golden blessed child, while she’s carrying an ordinary baby. Of course, my

"There are no signs of life." My mom exploded instantly, slapping the nurse across the face with such force it echoed through the ambulance. "Who do you think you are, cursing my grandson? I’ll beat you to death for that!" As I focused on taking deep breaths to relax, I watched my usually composed and graceful mom lose all control. She started smashing the equipment inside the ambulance and lunged at the nurse again. The nurse, already shaken by the sight of the stillborn fetus inside Sharon, burst into tears as she clutched her stinging cheek. Seeing their colleague attacked, the other nurses quickly restrained my mom and called the police. Once pinned down, my mom seemed to snap out of her frenzy and began shouting at me. "Fiona! You’ve got money! Pay them off! Let’s settle this quietly!" Ignoring her cries, I closed my eyes and leaned back, feigning exhaustion. "Mom, I’m feeling really dizzy and unwell right now. I can’t deal with you." The ambulance soon arrived at

Brian fell silent for a moment before softening his tone. "Fiona, what kind of talk is that? We're family. There’s no ‘yours’ or ‘mine.’ Everyone in the family loves you the most. Now that there’s trouble, of course, it’s your responsibility to step up." Listening to his ridiculous reasoning, I let out a cold laugh and hung up without another word. My husband, watching my reaction, hesitated before speaking cautiously. "Fiona, shouldn’t we help the family out a little?" I sighed, looking at his tentative expression. "Fine, send someone to keep an eye on things at the city hospital. But don’t spend a single penny. Oh, and make sure to get my mom out on bail and send her back to the hospital." After all, how could I let her miss the spectacle when she’s been so eager to hold her golden blessed grandchild? My husband quickly sent his assistant, who soon streamed live updates back to us. Brian stood frozen in shock, his mind unable to process what he’d just heard. Behind him, a wail erupted. "My grandson! How could you turn my precious grandson into a tumor?" The nurse, fully aware of his mother’s outrageous behavior in the ambulance, glared at her with visible disdain. "Don’t be ridiculous. We’re a reputable hospital. How could we ‘switch’ a baby with a tumor? Your daughter-in-law didn’t attend a single prenatal check-up and managed to grow a malignant tumor larger than a baby. Frankly, we’re the ones who are shocked." Brian and his mother exchanged a look, their mutual disappointment clear in each other’s eyes. The nurse, growing impatient, shoved the consent form into Brian’s hands. "Sign this immediately. The tumor has caused a uterine rupture, and if we don’t operate now, it will be life-threatening!" Brian stood there dazed, as if floating in a fog, and raised the pen to sign, only for his mother to slap it away. "Sign? For what? Do you know how ex

Brian and my mom stared at me in disbelief when I didn’t immediately agree to their demands and instead questioned them calmly and logically. "Fiona Lowe, we’re your family!" "You ungrateful child! Is this really what you think of us?" Before I could reply, a cool voice cut through their tirade. "Your way of showing love to Fiona is to deliver news of Sharon’s death while she’s recovering postpartum and then demand money from her?" I turned to see my husband, Cyrus Goodwin, walking in. A faint smile touched my lips. "You’re back. Did you bring my clam chowder?" Cyrus knelt down, carefully opened the container, and blew on the spoon before holding it to my lips. "Take it slow. It’s still hot." Brian, who had been seething on the sidelines, finally snapped. With a furious yell, he slapped the bowl out of Cyrus’ hand. "Didn’t you hear me? My wife is dead because of Fiona!
