A month later, Jesse had gotten a fake ID for her. He had sold his car and they had taken a bus to another state. He had tied her up every time he left and duct-taped her mouth. He wouldn't stay gone long but she had tried everything to get out of the ropes each time. He hadn't beat on her like he did the first time.
He would come for her and she would struggle but all he would do was slap her around or choke her almost to the point of passing out. She tried to refuse to eat but he made her. When she had missed her period, she thought it was due to the stress. Now, she was worried it was because of something else.
She bit her lip as she thought about the possibility of being pregnant. Had this monster gotten her pregnant? She looked over where he was sitting on the couch in the small cabin he had rented. She had learned not to speak because that turned his attention to her and she didn't like it when he was looking at her. He came for her then.
But she had to know the truth. It was going to gnaw away at her if she didn't. What was she going to do if she was pregnant? And what if she was pregnant by Kevin? They hadn't used protection when they were together. If it belonged to Kevin then there was a possibility of Jesse hurting the baby. But could she keep the baby if it belonged to the monster? Would he allow her to keep it? Or would he beat her so badly that she lost it? She finally cleared her throat to get his attention. She cringed when he looked at her.
"What?" he asked.
"I, um, I missed my period," Renee said.
"So? What do you want me to do about it?"
"I'm usually pretty regular. I, I need a pre-pregnancy test," Renee stammered.
Jesse looked at her for a few minutes and then stood up. He walked over to her and she shrank back, pushing her back into the chair as far as she could. He leaned down and untied the ropes. He stood her up and turned her towards the door.
"I'll take you to get one. While we're there, get some hair dye. If I have to take you out, then you have to look different at least."
Renee tried to relax but she couldn't. He had a death grip on her arm as he led her out of the cabin and to the car he had recently bought. She seriously thought about screaming her lungs out but what good would that do? They were in a remote location. So, instead, she allowed him to put her in the car.
Once they were at the store, Jesse wrapped his arms around her and pulled her to his side so they just looked like a regular couple. She tensed up when she felt a blade running along his hand and down his arm, pressing into her stomach. If she was pregnant and he stabbed her, the baby wouldn't survive.
"Remember, nothing stupid. Maybe if you act right, I'll take you out again sometime," Jesse said.
Renee could care less if he took her back out. She hated him and hated him touching her. They walked over to the hair products and he picked up some black hair dye. He was going to try to cover up her red hair. Her skin was too pale to pull off black hair. Everyone would know it wasn’t real. But, that didn’t matter to him. He didn’t care about her. He was only keeping her because he was a sick, sadistic bastard.
After Jesse had the hair dye he wanted, he moved them along until he found the aisle with the pregnancy tests. He picked one up and then picked up another brand. He handed them to her and they walked to the counter. They set the stuff down and Jesse got his wallet out and paid for everything. She picked up the bag and they walked out. He opened the door for her and she got in.
He tucked the knife by his side and got into the car. They drove back to the cabin in silence. He opened her door and yanked her out of the car. He drug her back into the cabin and to the bathroom. She still had the bag in her hand. He took it and took the pregnancy tests out. He handed them to her and she just looked at him. Was he actually expecting her to pee on them right in front of him?
“What are you waiting for?” Jesse asked.
“For one, I don’t have to pee right now. For another, there is no way I’m peeing on those things with you standing here. If you truly intend to keep me hostage, you are going to have to slack up on this watch everything I do crap. If I am truly pregnant, I’m not going to do anything to harm my baby. You have kept me tied up for over a month. I can only be untied when I have to go to the bathroom or you allow me to eat or drink something. My wrists and ankles are raw and hurting. I need some relief. I can’t even sleep because you have me tied to the bed so I can’t move. I’m too tired to even try to run. Either kill me or give me some type of space.”
“Who the hell do you think you’re talking to? You don’t get to make demands. You do what I say.”
“Whatever. I’m beyond caring what you think or say. You have beaten and raped me every day, several times a day. My life isn’t worth a damn anyway so maybe if I piss you off enough, you’ll just go ahead and kill me,” Renee said and leaned against the sink.
“No, I’m not going to kill you. Keeping you is a lot more fun. You’re feisty and I love it. Killing Kevin would control you better. If you are pregnant, I won’t put my hands on you anymore, but you will have to get with the program on the sex. I’ll leave you untied as long as you don’t try anything. I want my baby to be healthy.”
“So, let me get this straight. Apparently, my attitude problem is a turn on for you. And you won’t beat me but you expect me to willingly have sex with you? You really are crazy. I’m not going to willingly give my body to you. I’m not turned on by you. I hate you. I hate it when you touch me. It makes me cringe. I feel like I’m dying inside every time you rape me. I’ll never willingly give myself to you. As for being untied, I already told you I won’t do anything to harm my baby. It disgusts me to think you got me pregnant but it’s still my baby.”
Jesse pressed against her and she tried to get away from him, but he put his arms on either side of her so his face was right in front of hers. Her body tensed as she waited for the blows to come. It was a natural reaction for her now. He just continued to look at her and she shivered a little as his expression was dark and brooding. She couldn’t do anything but look at his face and she realized he was actually a good looking guy. If he hadn’t been a rapist, she probably would have found him attractive. “Keep running your mouth and I’m going to put it to good use. I don’t care if you like me or not. I’m still going to do what I want with you and you can either learn to enjoy it or continue to squirm. It makes no difference to me. I’m on the run for life so why not have a sex slave, too? Eventually, I’m going to have to get a job. So, you’ll have to be by yourself. If you don’t want to
Renee was taken aback by his suggestion that she would willingly stay with him, but when looking at it that way, she supposed she was willingly staying with him. There was no way she would let him kidnap her baby and take off with it. Was he planning on taking the baby and ditching her? She had to know. “What are you going to do after the baby is born?” “What do you mean?” Jesse asked. “Are you going to kill me, ditch me, what?” “I’m not going to kill you. I told you and that boyfriend of yours, I’m keeping you. You belong to me now. Plus, a baby needs its mother. We will raise the baby together, in Canada. Eventually, you will become complacent and we can have a nice, normal routine,” Jesse said as he
Over the next month, Renee and Jesse made their way across the country. Jesse had changed his mind about Canada as he said it would be easier to stay under the radar if a new citizenship didn’t pop up somewhere. They traveled from Florida to Washington state, stopping every night to get a room and sleep. Since they were backtracking now, Jesse made sure to keep away from North Carolina as best as possible. What they didn’t know was that Kevin was looking for Renee. He had grown tired of waiting for the police to do anything. They had told him that they didn’t have any new leads about what had happened to Renee. They hadn’t found any evidence of Jesse killing her in his apartment. His car was gone so they weren’t sure about what he had done. They eventually did find his car in Georgia. The police had issued the report to the Georgia police and they had searched but no one had seen Rene
Renee walked into the doctor’s office and felt nervous. She had to remember her name. The fake id she had said her name was Tabitha Monroe. Jesse had it made to match his fake id. She really hoped that he was not using the ploy of them being married but she quickly found out that is exactly what he had done. She couldn’t act strangely or people would know something was going on. She sat down in a chair and waited for Jesse to get the paperwork. He handed it to her and she just looked at it. She had to remember information that she didn’t know. She bit her lip and Jesse took it from her and started filling it out. He put her fake name on it and the address they were living at. She hadn’t even known what that was. When it came to things about her health, she put down the truth. When they called her back to the room, she stood up and looked at Jesse. He was staying sat down. She kissed his lips and said she would be back. This was just a normal checkup where a wife left her husband in
Renee had gone shopping with Jesse. He took her hand as she got out of the car. He held her hand through the store like they were an actual couple. She picked out a few items and tried them on. Jesse had her come out and show him everything she tried on. He picked out the ones he liked and paid for them. When they went back to the house, he dropped her off and left. She sighed and sat on the bed, looking at the clothes. At least he hadn’t come in and tried to sleep with her. She put her things in the dresser and went into the kitchen. She noticed the back door was ajar. She walked over to it and pushed it open. The backyard was actually pretty big. This had to be a test. Jesse had done this on purpose to see if she would try and escape. But, the urge to just sit in the sunlight was too great to resist. She had been
A few months went by and Renee had been able to go outside more when Jesse was home. A couple of times, he had left the back door unlocked and she had gone out and tended the flowers. Sometimes, he would bring flowers home for her to plant. The flower beds were weeded and watered. She would sit outside sometimes and just enjoy the smell of them. Jesse had bought a couple of chairs to sit outside. He sat out there with her often. Renee never really felt comfortable but she was starting to get into a daily routine. When she had a doctor’s appointment, he would drive her to it, and go in with her. The doctor had given her pictures of the baby. Jesse had taken her with him to the store after one of these appointments and she had looked at some of the baby items. She found a baby book that she really liked but she put it back. She had also picked up a little frame for the baby’s first pict
Renee walked out to the kitchen and began to fix dinner as Jesse would be back from work soon enough. She felt terrible. She’d been having Braxton Hicks for a few weeks. Shewas having an appointment once a week now. Jesse didn’t know she was now 39 weeks. He thought she was at 36 weeks.Today had been one of the worst days. The cramps had been sobad that she had barely been able to stand up. Every time shemoved, she felt pain. She started taking everything out and setting it on the table when she had a huge cramp shoot through her stomach and into her back. She gasped and grabbed the chair. It felt like she had peed on herself and she looked at the floor. There was a puddle on the floor. Had her wat
Over the next few months, Renee was completely exhausted. She was up all night with Christian. She would get a few hours of sleep in between feedings, but then he would wake up again. It surprised her when Jesse got up in the middle of the night and changed him. He would bring him over to her after he was done as he couldn’t feed him. He had offered several times to get formula but Renee refused to give Christian formula. Jesse had been really sweet like a real husband would be towards his wife. He kissed her goodbye before he left for work. He kissed her when he came home. He would bring her flowers occasionally. He never locked the doors when he left anymore. He had helped clean up the house and take care of Christian even though he was tired from work. Sometimes he even gave her a break and let her take a little nap while he watched Christian. Renee didn’t complain. She didn’t even
5 years later A raven-haired beauty with hazel eyes runs up. He smiled as he wrapped her up in his arms. He spun in circles with her in his arms as she giggled. He sat her down onto her feet and looked around at the people in the home. It had been hard the year and a half it had taken for his trial. In the end, it was worth it. It had been hard not being able to be with Renee when he’d been in the same state. She hadn’t come to see him even though he had tried to apologize to her. She never took his calls. His mother had seen her and Christian. She was going to petition for rights to see Christian and she had told Renee that. Renee had politely told her there was no need. All she had to do was tell her first and if they didn’t have anything planned, she was more than welcome to get him. She’d taken pictures of Christian and sent them to Kevin. Some of
“Why would you do that for someone who mistreated you?” “Jesse could be an asshole but he treated me prettygood over time. I loved him and I think he deserves to be withthe only family he ever had. After this is all over, I plan to returnhome, too, so I can raise our child and my son. My child will never know their father other than a grave.” George shook his head. This woman was either crazy or she really did have Stockholm syndrome. He knew she’d been in a car accident at the beginning of the year and suffered a brain injury. Had that affected her judgment that much? He needed to know what happened so he needed to get the body released. They had only held it until the fingerprints came back anyw
“Sarge, you’re going to want to see this,” Nolan said. “What is it, Nolan?” “The fingerprints are back. We had them rushed because of the missing person’s case.” George had found files in Kevin’s car that contained emails between him and a woman named Marie. It also contained a crime report involving him and a woman named Renee Kennedy. The picture showed the same woman that was at the crime scene. He’d taken her fingerprints and that of the victim, Mark Morgan. They had detained Kevin since he was inside the Morgan’s home. It had been a month and neither Kevin nor Tabitha had talked about what had happened in that house. He’d notified Kevin’s mother of what had happened as she was listed as his emergency contact. She’d notified him that he should contact Renee Kennedy
Kevin went to kick the knife out of Jesse’s hand when Jesse opened his eyes and stabbed him in the leg. Kevin cried out at the pain burning up the muscle of his leg. He hit his knees and his hand went to the knife. He pulled it out right as Jesse grabbed his collar and began punching him in the face and the side of his head. Renee didn’t know how to stop the fight. She did the only thing she could think of. She dug her phone out and called 911. “911, what’s your emergency?” “They’re going to kill each other!” Renee cried. “Ma’am, calm down. What’s your name?” Renee ignored her. She rattled off her address as she saw Jesse grab the wrist of the hand that Kevin had the knife in. He twisted the wrist unti
Renee was feeling uneasy after her meeting with Kevin. He was definitely planning something and it scared her. She didn’t want him to get hurt but she also didn’t want Jesse to know he had found them. She was definitely wondering if he already knew. She bit her lip as her thoughts turned to the darker side of how things could go down. “Mommy!” Christian yelled. “I’m sorry, Christian. I was in my thoughts. Did you say something to me?” Renee asked as she drug herself out of the bad thoughts she was having about Jesse and Kevin. “I want to go back. I want Mr. Kevin.” “I’m sorry, Christian, but that just isn’t possible. Your daddy doesn’t know that you aren’t his son. Please, promise me, baby, that you won’t te
“Deal,” Jesse said as he kissed and hugged her. Renee sighed and walked away to find Christian. She’d take him to dinner and a movie tonight. He had been begging to go see Tom and Jerry. Since this was their night, she’d take him out for a happy meal and ice cream too. She wondered if he’d like putt-putt golf. She hadn’t played it since she was little but it might be something he’d enjoy. They could get breakfast, play a couple of games, and then go to the park for an hour or so. With her plans set in her mind, she went to find Christian. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kevin pulled out his pocket knife and sharpened it. He’dthought about this day long and hard. If he bought a gun, it would be premeditated murder. He sharpened the blade while he t
“What do you mean, ‘thank God you’re awake’? How long have I been asleep?” “Two days. It’s Tuesday. My boss wasn’t thrilled that I missed two days but I explained what happened.” “Where’s Christian?” Renee asked. “I took him to Nancy’s after we realized you weren’t waking up when the nurse came to check on you. You’ve been moaning and thrashing in your sleep every so often.” “Oh. Was I talking in my sleep at all?” “Not while I was awake. Why? Do you remember anything?” “I remember everything,” Renee whispered. “Before or afte
“Will you, um, will you come let the guard rail down? I need to go to the bathroom,” Renee said as her cheeks reddened. “Sure. No need to be embarrassed, baby.” “That wasn’t really what I wanted but I do need to go.” Jesse put the bed rail down and helped Renee up. She leaned on him to catch her bearings. She went to the bathroom and came out. He could tell by the look on her face that she was still confused about what was happening. She regained some of her memories if not all of them, but had she forgotten the ones after the accident? “Do you want to tell me what you really wanted now?” Renee’s cheeks turned red again but she held her arms out.
Jesse sat out in the waiting room with Christian as they waited for the doctors to run tests. Christian had finally settled down and stopped crying. He was sitting in Jesse's lap sucking his thumb. He had started that back up after Renee had been in the accident. Now every time he was extremely stressed, that thumb was back in his mouth. It agitated Jesse somewhat but he let it go because he knew he was trying to comfort himself against what was happening with his mom. It had been hours since Renee had been brought in and no one had updated him yet. Jesse stroked Christian’s hair absentmindedly until he saw the doctor come out. Dr. Getty walked up to him and held out his hand. Jesse took it and shook it. The doctor had a neutral look on his face. “Mr. Morgan, we meet again. I wish it was under better circumstances,” Dr. Get
