Emily’s P.O.V
The dinner went smoothly, until I saw him at the table. I fought everything I had to keep my cool and do my job. Serving a family that was once my equal, or better yet, below my status, is humiliating in its own right. But, to have my mate see me at these low standards is just plain out torture. Goddess only knows what he is thinking of me right now, especially with how he ran out of the room earlier this afternoon.
I struggled to keep my need for him down. My face felt heated, I had a hard time concentrating on anything but him. That’s when I noticed what had just happened. As the desserts were being brought out, I was pouring the tea when I heard a scream. Before I had a chance to notice what happened, I heard her voice.
“You bitch!” When my focus came back, I noticed that while I was in my own thoughts I had completely missed the tea cup and had poured the tea on Sarah’s lap. I sighed, this won’t end well for me. I glanced over at Lindsay and could see her snickering, trying hard to hide her laugh.
“I am so sorry Lady Sarah, please allow me to help you clean that!” I quickly grab a dry fabric napkin and pat at her skirt.
“Eww, don’t touch me!” she yelled as she got up, “daddy please do something about her!” She whined as she ran out of the room.
I glanced up at Beta Michael as a look of anger grew in his eyes. “Margo, please see to it that Emily here does not receive dinner before heading back to the camp.” Margo, the older Sigma who supervised Lindsay and me, nodded. “As for you Emily, if something like this happens again, missing dinner will seem like a blessing compared to what you will receive.”
I nodded and turned to head to the kitchen, not before I heard Lucas speak up, “don’t you think that is a bit harsh, Beta? After all, I am sure it was an accident.” His voice was calm and collected. It was hard to read him or his feelings at that moment.
“You are right Bryce, I can see how it would look that way to an outsider, but we need to make sure the Sigmas know their place around here. We let them go with something the next thing you know they will be thinking they can walk all over us, we can’t have that happening now.”
Bryce? I swore he told me his name was Lucas. I shrugged it off as I saw him nod to the Beta
I went to the kitchen and began working on dishes.
“Look at all this waste of food,” I said to Lindsay, as she entered the kitchen. I shook my head, “It really is wasteful.” I never noticed until I became a Sigma myself and saw how much food is thrown out. “This could easily feed half of the Sigma camp.”
The dinner had ended a few hours ago, Lindsay and I were still cleaning up and getting the dishes finished before we could go home for the night.
Lindsey shook her head as well, “these privileged beasts think they walk on the moon and to think we are forced to bow down to them.” She pondered in thought for a moment before her face lit up.
“I have a brilliant plan!” I could see the wheels rolling in her head, that is never a good sign. “Let’s take this food back to the camp, it’s about time we ate well for once!”
My eyes darted to her, “are you crazy? What if we get caught?!” Lindsay with her off the wall plans, she’s going to get us in serious trouble one day.
“Oh stop being a baby, do you really want to starve tonight? Come on, take a chance, be daring, feel the thrill of it!” I laughed. She really knew how to make a horrible situation seem tolerable.
“Okay,” I replied, as Lindsay jumped for joy.
“Hurray! She is finally learning to live on the edge!”
“Shhh!” I grabbed her arm to calm her down, “we really don’t need anyone hearing us!”
“Good point,” she whispered. “Okay, first, we shove our faces until we can no longer walk, then we bag up the rest to bring back to camp.”
Just as we started shoving our faces full, a man’s voice came from the doorway. “Looks like we got some thieves here.”
Lindsay and I both looked at each other and froze, we slowly turned to the voice at the door. There was Lucas or Bryce, or whatever his name was, standing and smirking at us.
“Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me. I was just coming to get a snack myself.” We both continued chewing and swallowed as Sarah’s voice echoed down the hall.
“Bryce!? I could have sworn I saw you come down here.”
“Quick hide!” Lucas whispered, as Lindsay and I hid in the corner next to the stove. Lucas pulled some baskets in front to hide us better.
Lucas had just got the last basket in place and stood back up to the counter with a loaf of bread in his hand as Sarah walked in.
“I thought I saw you walk in here.” She smiled as she walked up and wrapped her arms around his waist. “I missed you.”
“Ooh look at this,” Lindsay whispered to me, “our boy here has a girlfriend.” She looks at me as she smiles. “Maybe their little rendezvous may lead to something and we can be freed from her, wouldn’t that be something.” She laughed to herself.
I could feel my blood boil as I watched her touch him. How dare she? I wanted to jump out and rip her arms right off her body. Lindsay’s words weren’t making it any easier. It wasn’t her fault though, I never told her he was mine.
“Sarah, I told you earlier-” she cut him off with a kiss. Her arms snaked up behind his neck and pulled him to her. My blood began to boil even more. I made the mistake of moving slightly as the baskets that were hiding us fell.
I watched Lucas push her away. “Sarah, please leave me alone.” They both turned towards the noise.
“Are you two spying on us?” Sarah walked over towards us and stopped. She grabbed Lindsay by the arm and pulled her up to her feet. “What is this?!” She grabbed the satchel from Lindsay’s arm and opened it. She turned it upside down as the food that we snuck in the bag fell out.
“Were you two trying to steal from us?” Anger shown in her face. “This is the end of the line for the two of you!” She pulled out her cellphone and made a call, within seconds, the police showed up.
“Sarah, I think you are over exaggerating,” Lucas said, “all they wanted was something to eat.”
“Oh save it Bryce, there is no reason to defend them, they had it coming from the start. These two have been out to hurt me since the day Emily became a Sigma. There is nothing she can do now to get out of this one.”
Lucas looked at me, I could see concern in his eyes as the cops arrested us.
“Please make sure they pay for what they did.” Sarah told the police as they hulled us out of the house in handcuffs.
Lindsay’s P.O.VThis is it. I knew as a Sigma, my life would probably be short, but for it to end this early at a mere 23 years old? Eh, I guess I lived enough. The police threw us into the back of the car, they weren’t very gentle at all, but what could be expected of them? We were Sigmas. We almost got away with it too, it would have been epic. Steal all the food to feed our own? But it is what it is. I couldn’t blame Emily for moving. Though I am still unsure what had gotten into her. She seemed really bothered by Sarah and this Bryce character. I know she hated Sarah, that would be reason enough, but it was if she was almost jealous.I glanced over at Emily, she was sitting with her head down and her eyes closed. “Hey chick, it will be oka
Emily’s P.O.V.“Get up!”I heard a voice yell out to me. This voice was different. It wasn’t off in the distance, in the crowd of people surrounding me. It was closer, as if it was a part of me.“GET UP!”I heard it again, this time it was more stern. I used all the strength I had left in me to push myself up. I wobbled as I stood.“Steady now.”I heard the voice again, this time in a calm gentle manor, almost like a mother speaking to her child.“Look, everyone is staring at us.&nb
I can see everyone’s faces. Their looks of astonishment, fear, jealousy, and anger. The way my pack turned on me. I remember my wolf. Zara.My eyes shot open. It seemed as if it all could have been a dream, but was it? I sat up, feeling a little weak.“Woah, not so fast!” I heard a female voice. I looked around to see where the voice was coming from but I was alone.“You won’t find me out there,” the voice said laughing.“Who are you?”“I am Zara, your wolf.” She must have felt the shock that had taken over me because she began laughing. “I know what you’re thinking, but E
Eighteen is supposed to be special for us girls. Especially us girls in a werewolf pack. It marks us becoming an adult, when we are finally able to find our mates. That is exactly how I felt waking up on my eighteenth birthday. However, that excitement, the special feeling, did not last.My life was perfect, I was Emily Ravenport, daughter of Alpha Eric Ravenport and Luna Aria Ravenport of the Crescent Moon Pack, and in my parent’s eyes I could do no wrong. I woke up that morning excited with the prospects of finally finding my mate. I had been waiting my whole life for this moment. It would be special, our scents would hit each other’s noses, our eyes would lock, and we would just know. Mates. Tonight was the mating ceremony, tonight I would find my mate and I already had one person in mind: Jackson Ledger.
My phone rang as I sifted through my closet, looking for something to wear.“Happy Birthday Bestie!” Sarah, my best friend, exclaimed“Thank you! I need your help, it’s a fashion emergency!” I laughed as I turned my camera view to my closet, “what do I wear to a mating ritual?”“Well my dear friend, you came to the right person.” she squints her eyes looking at outfits I pull out. “Mating rituals are normally basic. You will be shifting, so the less clothes the better.”“Yes, but I still want to look hot!” I remark. “It is my birthday after all.” She laughs at me shaking her head.
Two weeks later…..I am still not sure how it happened. It is all a blur to me, the mating ritual, the heat. The whole thing seemed like a dream, more like a nightmare, one I still can’t seem to wake up from. Everything and everyone I had ever known had been ripped from me, and now I am forced to live my life as a Sigma, a slave to the pack. The once highly respected Alpha’s daughter, now nothing.Everyone has been making my life harder too. Sarah is constantly finding ways to torment me. I was assigned to work as a slave at the Beta house. I start at five in the morning, and leave around ten at night. I never have a day off and never have a break. I quickly hid in a room to the side of the stairs. They never used this room much for anything, it was across the hall from Beta Michael’s office. I knew this house like the back of my hand, Sarah and I had spent many days running through these halls as children. The door to Beta Michael’s office was closed, which meant he was in a meeting.Just then, the door to the room flung open, and Jackson walked in. “Well, well, looks like we have a little spy here.” He moved closer as I backed up against the wall. He had an angry grin on his face. “You like what you saw? That could have easily been you if you wouldn’t have rejected me all those times.” His grin disappeared and pure anger took its place.“I-I-I di-didn’t mean to, the d-d-door-” I stuttered out.
Lucas’s P.O.V.“Calm down Lucas.” My wolf, Jace, yelled at me. “We just need to regroup and re-strategize, not everything is lost.” He was always my conscience, much like Jiminy Cricket. He always knew how to reason with me and calm me down, without him I’d be lost.“How can I be calm, I wasn’t supposed to find her here, I wasn’t supposed to have a mate!” I run my fingers through my head as I pace back and forth through the gardens at the Cranston Estate, the home of the Beta and his family. I was invited to dinner tonight as a guest after our meeting had ended. Having the respect of both the Beta and the Alpha will make my plan go a lot smoother, at least this will mean that neither of them will suspect anything and my plan will play out. Right now, it is very
