Elias POV:

Suddenly, the cup of coffee in my hand fell, the glass shattered on impact, and the coffee droplets splashed and clung to my white shirt. An uneasy premonition arose strongly in my heart, and my chest tightened.

Marcus was still reporting the recent war, but I heard nothing. My ears kept ringing as if there was a hand covering them.
