The weight of guilt

Once again, Jayden was begging for my forgiveness, his eyes filled with tears, which broke my heart, but he had been so selfish that I needed to set aside that feeling and think clearly. After all, Daon was still my husband, and no matter how upset I was with him, I needed to see him. The fact that Jayden had to apologize to me repeatedly only showed how much he messed up every day, and I didn’t know how long I could handle this.

“Jane, I’m begging you to stay with me! Don’t throw away everything we’ve lived through these past few days,” he insisted, on his knees, tears in his eyes.

“What’s the point if you ruined everything by lying to me? Don’t you understand that one lie invalidates a thousand truths?” I questioned, irritated, unable to understand how he could hide something so serious from me.

“I didn’t lie to you, I just didn’t tell you because I was afraid you’d leave me again before I had a real chance,” he stopped talking, as if he realized he was about to say something wrong.
