The way Jayden's eyes went from expectation to complete disappointment broke my heart, but I knew I couldn’t keep playing this game, especially now that there were more players on the field. I needed to push him away at any cost. Now that my past had found me, I could no longer live in the present, and I knew I’d have to give up the person I loved most to protect him.

"I can explain what happened to Hanna!" Jayden stammered, and I sighed, shaking my head with a half-smile.

"It doesn’t matter anymore, Jayden," I assured him, trying to hide how much I wished there really was an explanation, but there was no way to unsee everything I had seen that day.

"I only did that because I knew you were doing the same with Daon," Jayden argued, and I let out a sarcastic laugh.

"Really, you knew?" I asked, rolling my eyes and looking away before I broke down. "Good that you knew! Now, if you’ll excuse me, my students are waiting," I said curtly.
