Avery said, "Charles said you don't like working and have always stayed home. I told him you must have big ambitions to be a successful career woman."

I shot a cold look at Charles. I was a top student when I was in university. I was also one of the key members of our lab. After getting married, I decided to step back and take care of Charles, knowing how difficult it was for him to run his company. However, the reality had been twisted—I was portrayed as someone unwilling to work and dependent on a man.

Looking at the smug Avery, I recognized the necklace around her neck. It was the one I had asked for as a birthday gift last year. I had not bought any jewelry in years. When I saw that lovely pendant, I really desired it.

When I told Charles about my wish, he impatiently turned me down, citing that his business was not doing well and he had no extra money for such things. I had only been slightly disappointed, but Charles yelled at me as if I had insulted him, "You're just a loser
