Familiarity

Aurora's POV

Stunned and dumbfounded, I stared at him, waiting for him to laugh and say it was a joke, that he was teasing me, but he didn’t. Instead, he had a stern and serious look on his face. I lowered my gaze. “You are joking, right?” I asked, but he moved closer to me and held my chin with the tip of his index finger, causing my eyes to lock with his, sending a cold shiver down my spine.

“It’s not a joke,” he declared, his voice rough and dominant, making my knees quiver. “Aurora was…” He paused and sucked in a deep breath, as if stopping himself from saying what he wanted to say. “Let’s leave that aside.” He sighed and took a step away, causing me to swallow awkwardly and look away from him.

“I think we are done here,” he said, and I nodded, my eyes still glancing around the room, which I found strange yet familiar. “We should leave,” he said and led the way, while I tried to follow, but something flashed in my head. It was blurred, but I could pick something from it.
