Chapter Eighty Seven - Apology

With a slice of bread slathered in butter in my left hand and a glass of milk in the other, I stood in the dim light of the kitchen, feeling the cool evening air settle around us. “I haven't eaten yet,” he mentioned, almost offhandedly, breaking the quiet.

“Oh, really? Then you can have this!” I offered cheerfully, reaching out to him with a warm smile, and lightly tapping his shoulder. He turned towards me, his eyes narrowing slightly as they fell upon the food in my hands.

“You should eat that, it's your dinner. I'll grab something downstairs,” Alex replied with his usual casual tone, brushing off the offer. He glanced at the glass in my hand and added, “Besides, I’m not a fan of strawberry milk.”

“Really? But it tastes so good—” I began to protest, but the words caught in my throat as a sudden wave of nausea hit me. The sweet, creamy scent of the milk, now so close to my nose, made my stomach lurch violently.
