After the total darkness, I saw the marble floor of the hospital decorated with blood pouring from my hands. I kept running until several people carrying sharp weapons appeared in front of me.
They pointed at me and ran. I, who was in a pinch, chose to jump over the fence that connected to the highway. I ran without looking around. As if I would rather die being hit by a truck than die at the hands of those irresponsible humans.
So, am I really dead? I don't know. Everything was dark and silent.
The hospital where I interned was not in a remote area. It was still in the city area, but the area was indeed prone to conflict between the government and the indigenous people.
That was probably the most logical reason. I never thought they would dare to come to the city area and attack health workers. They must have lost their minds. They seem to believe they can survive without health workers.
So the thing that I did to the handsome lieutenant was just an illusion? An illusion that appeared when I was dying. Huh. How ironic.
After a long time, the darkness that enveloped me was replaced by a dazzling light. The atmosphere around me changed again. I saw several IV bags hanging, not far from the curtain that looked like a room divider.
"Duna, are you awake?" asked a young man with silver hair and red retinas. His appearance is really unusual, but still looks pleasing to the eye.
"Duna?!"
"Huh? Who's Duna?" I asked in surprise. I could see the look in the man's eyes had changed. He looked very shocked.
"Who are you? Do you know me?" I asked casually.
**
The doctor diagnosed that I have memory loss after a serious accident. I was also unconscious for 7 days after the surgery.
"...." I really don't know what to say. I also don't understand what is really happening.
"My name is Oskar Pettersson and your name is Duna Delaporte," the silver-haired man said with a smile. I saw a sad glint in his eyes.
"Os-kar?" I asked softly, pointing at him.
"Yes." Oskar smiled and patted my head gently. "Get some rest, I'll come back later."
"Are you busy?" I asked, staring at him closely.
Beep. Beep. The walkie-talkie on his waist rang.
"Colonel, all preparations are ready. Companies 3 and 4 have returned, while Company 5 cannot be contacted."
Oskar raised his walkie-talkie to his mouth. "Understood. Proceed as originally planned."
After putting the walkie-talkie back, Oskar put on the green military-style coat that he had been folding. There was a badge of three gold flowers on his chest and the number 657 below it.
Oskar looked at me, who was just staring at him. "I'll bring your favorite food, so rest until I get back."
"Oh, okay." I had no choice but to nod. "Be careful."
"Sure." Oskar smiled before leaving. Somehow his smile made me happy.
Oskar Pettersson. The person on the walkie-talkie called him Colonel. I could tell that Oskar was a military officer. But who was I to him?
I looked at my right shoulder, which was now wrapped in bandages. It seemed like I had surgery, and my condition looked better.
That night the doctor removed the bandages that had been wrapped around me. I could see some stitches, but overall it looked perfect as if my shoulder had never been stabbed through to my back.
"I can't believe I got healed this fast," I said, then put my hospital gown back on.
"Of course, the medicine you are using is very expensive, but you don't need to think about that," the doctor replied.
"Really?" I asked in disbelief.
"You can go home tomorrow afternoon."
"Ah, how is he?" I asked. Instantly the doctor's brow furrowed.
"Uh, I-I mean he's... L-lieutenant..." I stuttered a little. I didn't know the name of the lieutenant I had helped that time.
"Oh." The doctor smiled now. "You don't have to worry about him. He's back on duty now. He probably doesn't have time to see you."
"Ah, thank goodness." I breathed a sigh of relief. I felt like I would be disappointed if he didn't survive.
"Get some rest," said the doctor, who then left the room. However, I wasn't alone for long because Oskar came back. He gave me a box of waffles with cream topping.
"Uh, this is delicious. Thank you." I smiled.
"Enjoy." Oskar sat on a chair not far from me.
"Have you finished your work? I didn't expect you to come so soon."
"I only took the first shift and the situation is also under control."
"Oh..." I didn't understand what he was talking about, but it was only natural for me to respond.
"I've already told Zudith and the others about your condition, so you don't need to worry."
"..." I was speechless. I didn't know who Zudith was.
"Oh, I'm sorry." Oskar seemed to come to a realization. "Are you allowed to go home yet?"
I nodded. "I've taken off my bandages, and the doctor said I can go home tomorrow."
"Then let's go home now. I'll take you to your house."
"Huh? Right now?"
"I'm not sure if I can pick you up tomorrow, so we had better go home now." Oskar replied while looking at me closely.
"Oh, okay." I nodded. Luckily, the clothes I had worn had been washed and neatly stored in the drawer along with my boots.
I felt like something was wrong if I just went home like this, but I also didn't know what I was supposed to do here. Following Oskar was the only way out I had.
After I changing my clothes, Oskar put on his green coat for me and also a helmet. He told me to get on his big and expensive-looking motorbike.
"Hug me tight," Oskar said as he put both of my hand on his stomach.
"Okay." I did as he asked.
As the wheels of Oskar's motorbike turned, I became more and more convinced that I was in a place I couldn't really recognize. However, I was also amazed to see the large tower behind the hospital. The other buildings were positioned as if they were designed to surround the tower.
Maybe because it was already night, so there wasn't much I could see. Oskar dropped me off right in front of a house that had a garden decoration in the shape of a train.
"This is your house. That's my house," Oskar said, pointing to a traditional Japanese-style house right next to the train house.
"Really? We're neighbors?" I asked in disbelief.
"Yes." Oskar smiled and pointed to a box next to the door. "Put your ID card here and the door will open."
"Uh?" I reached into my waistcoat and pants pockets. Hoping for an ID card or something.
"This?" I asked when I found a black card with a peacock feather symbol and the word WSS on the top.
"That's our mercenary membership card." Oskar frowned. "Where's your bag?"
I shook my head. "I don't know."
Oskar exhaled. He then took out a card that had the same design, but with the addition of R4 written on the top corner.
"This is a big deal," Oskar said. The door opened automatically.
"Huh?" I looked at him confused.
"For now, use my card. I'll ask Zudith to print a new ID card for you."
"How come your card can open my house?" I asked in surprise.
"..." Oskar was silent for a moment, but then he patted my head gently. "Go to sleep, I'm going back to the military district."
"Anything else to do?" I asked as I returned his black coat.
"It would be difficult for me to get in and out of the house if my card was with you, so I'd rather just sleep at my residence in the military district."
"I see." This time I understood. "Good evening, Colonel."
"Sweet dreams," said Oskar, who then left on his big motorbike.
I was tired. I decided to go straight to bed as soon as I found a mattress. However, my hand found a book behind the pillow that said 'DUNA DIARY'.
It was hard for me to believe what was written in Duna's diary, but the pile of magazines I found on the table only confirmed what was written in the diary.Essentially, it is now the year 3044. The human population has drastically decreased to less than 1 billion remaining. This happened because of the actions of researchers who wanted to create a space and time portal using electromagnetic waves that were transmitted throughout the world. On the one hand they have managed to create a portal that connects to another planet. 1 hour on earth is equal to 1 day on another planet. Unfortunately, there is not just one portal that appears and it is spread randomly throughout the world. The portal that appears will disappear after 24 hours, but the beasts that appear through the portal are very difficult to defeat even with a lot of troops and ammunition. Even so, the materials obtained from these wild animals are very valuable because they can be used for construction materials and health.
"Duna," said a woman wearing a green coat and a military hat. The nametag on her chest reads Zudith Velten."Y-" Before I could say anything, Oskar's voice was heard."I told you she wasn't ready," Oskar said."What else can we do? Kylian is waiting for her.""...""Just ignore him, he can't just do whatever he wants." Oskar sounded annoyed."I know, but we have no choice.""Can I take a shower first?" I asked, already able to know what Zudith's purpose in coming to see me."Yes, take your time."As soon as I got the answer from Zudith, I rushed to the bathroom. I left the door open because I knew Oskar and Zudith were still arguing in front of the house. This reminds me of when I was a teenager. My father and mother often had big fights. I didn't know whose side to take, so I always tried to avoid their arguments and do what I could for myself. Even though in the end, I don't have a place that I can call home. After changing clothes, I put all the IDs I had into a small bag, from the
**Flashback.A young woman's voice was heard saying, "Look at you, you're quite handsome, huh?" accompanied by laughter."Hm." Kylian wanted to respond, but his whole body was numb. He couldn't move at all. His vision was just dark."If only I could marry someone as handsome as you, I would be happy." The woman laughed again, but her laughter sounded like she was about to cry.'Why did you say that?' Kylian wanted to ask, but he couldn't. He felt like something was taking him away into deeper darkness.Every time the woman exhaled into his mouth, Kylian saw a glimmer of light coming toward him, as if guiding him to save himself.“Cough.” The woman coughed, but it sounded like someone was vomiting blood."...so I hope you stay alive." Kylian heard the voice getting softer until nothing could be heard from the woman anymore.Kylian Arthur could vaguely see around. He saw the woman sitting beside him. Her eyes were closed, and her lips were smiling with blood on the corners of her lips
"Do you have to ask?" Arthur asked."Huh?" I was silent for a moment, thinking about what he really wanted."You want to sleep with me?" My question made Arthur's eyes widen, but he didn't say anything."Is that yes or not?" I looked at him and hesitated.Arthur grabbed my waist and lifted me onto his shoulder. He then walked to the side of the bed and unlocked the door. The room was much smaller than Arthur's room, but much larger than the bathroom. There were many guns and weapons neatly arranged in the open cabinet around the room, which makes this room feel even scarier.Arthur dropped me on the floor. Of course, I felt pain and shock at the same time.He pulled my head and started to kiss my lips roughly. I had trouble breathing because of him.I pushed him away, but his hands moved to tear off my clothes one by one until finally there was not a single piece of cloth on my body."W-wait." I crossed my arms over my chest and tried to cover my lower half. Somehow, I felt embarrasse
I opened my eyes. I saw Kylian's arms around my waist. When I turned around, Kylian still seemed to be asleep. I don't know when he took me to bed, but I'm sure he did it after his patrol.I got up from the bed. My eyes were drawn to the row of paper bags on the table. There was a sticky note on one of them. I immediately approached it out of curiosity.'Cook this rice for me.'I laughed when I saw the contents of the sticky note, and sure enough, inside the paper bag was a collection of several plastic bags of rice."If you like rice that much, you should buy me a rice cooker," I said."Yes, I will buy it for you later.""You're up? That's fast," I said, a little surprised."Of course, my pillow is gone from my hands," Kylian replied. He thinks of me as his pillow. Somehow, this feels cute to me."You, just go to sle
I smiled after pressing the 'cook' button on the rice cooker. I'm glad he actually bought it. There was news about a zero-level xenobeast appearing at base 717. The base was destroyed in just one night."Is level zero that scary?" I asked as I took another bite of the waffle that had kiwi fruit topping on it."I don't want to meet that creature again either," said Arthur, who was already in the kitchen without me realizing it."Have you seen it?""Yes, when I was a kid, the creature was terrifying. I survived because there was a helicopter that gave me a rope ladder.""Is your place near his nest?"“No. Zero-level Xenobeasts c
"What the fck are you up to?" Oskar cursed. "You took advantage when she was unconscious.""If I hadn't done it, she wouldn't have received any treatment at the military hospital," Kylian replied."You should have handed her over to us, we would have taken her. Are you looking down on us?" Oskar snapped.I could only stay silent. I didn't know what to do in a situation like this. I didn't expect to have this problem. The fact is that Kylian Arthur married me while I was unconscious. He did it so that I could get treatment at the best hospital on this base. Military hospital."Calm down, Oskar." Logan grabbed Oskar's shoulder."Why? What he did was clearly wrong. He showed no respect for Duna at all. Why did the Base Council agree to his request?" Oskar's voice remained high."Yes, but it has already happened. He is strong, and the Base Council would not want to lose someone as strong as him." Logan answered in a clear tone."Ish." Oskar still looked annoyed."All we can do now is give
