Fifty-first Chapter

My eyes fluttered open when the scent of what smelt like, freshly baked pancakes, wafted past my nostrils. I twisted and turned, realizing again how soft the bed was. With a broad grin on my face, I pulled my eyelids backwards. Like a baby seeing for the first time, the images blurred into existence.

“You must be hungry."

A deep husky voice echoed through the walls of my mind, pushing me further into consciousness. The scent of pancakes grew stronger and my eyes finally clarified the figure in front of me, David holding up a tray as he walked towards me. The smile on my lips broadened.

“I ordered you some pancakes and coffee.”

He muttered softly as he sat by my side, holding the tray in my direction. With a small yawn, I sat up from under the thick white sheets, tucking the corners into my sides.
