As the doors closed behind them, I had to bring my glass to Lucius’s for a clink. We shared a conspiratorial smile before sipping our champagne.

We were seconds away from reaching Jenna’s apartment, the one I still hadn’t moved out of while I finalized the paperwork with the bank for my new place. In this brief moment, I had to praise Lucius’s performance. He had driven me home in his car because I’d declined to join him for dinner at Dalia. I just wanted to rest—it had been a long day.

“That was perfect. You knocked it out of the park,” I praised Lucius beside me.

“It must’ve been perfect to make you this happy. You’re hard to please.”

“I’m not, if you know me well,” I smiled as he parked near the building. “Thanks for the ride. We’ll talk tomorrow.”

“Tomorrow?” he asked, confused. “Isn’t tomorrow Sunday?”
