Painful screams could be heard through the door of the delivery room in the old hospital. Two men standing guard in front of the room endured their pain when the screams resumed.
Dell Rosie, standing not far from the delivery bed, looked still, watching a nurse and a middle-aged doctor who helped give birth to a woman. Now and then, he glanced at his colleague, who was also watching from the corner room.
There was a sound of a baby crying after a long struggle. Her loud voice filled the tension in the room.
“Once again, Ma’am,” said the doctor with a low voice. “Inhale and exhale slowly.”
“I can’t anymore,” hissed the woman.
Rosie approached the delivery bed and said sternly, “If you choose to die here, Cinzia, imagine what will happen to these babies.”
The woman moaned in tears at his words.
“Please don’t hurt them,” she whispered in a hoarse voice that barely drained from screaming.
The man paused again and signaled to the doctor to finish the labor immediately.
A few minutes later, there was another loud wail that counterbalanced the twin's cries.
Rosie stared flatly at the two baby girls. His attention returned to Cinzia, who sobbed in grief.
“I want to keep both of them with me, Rosie,” said Cinzia with tears. Almost half an hour, she brought the two little angels into the world, but she had not been allowed to embrace them.
The man sitting in the corner of the room snorted at the request as if it was absurd. The scratches along his arm twitched when he heard that.
“Shut your mouth, puta,” hissed the man. “Rosie, kill the babies. Take Cedro and Amato with you.” The man stood up and left the delivery room.
Hearing his order, Cinzia screamed hysterically with the curse of an injured mother. She struggled with all her might to free herself from the chain attached to her delivery place. Her eyes wildly stared at the two babies in the arms of the two men guarding outside the door.
“Noooo … nooo! My babies! Please, give my babies to me!” she screamed with the last remaining strength. The nurse who had been helping her injected something into Cinzia’s thigh.
Her scream was no longer loud, and her voice could no longer be heard as the drug overwhelmed her consciousness and made her sleep forever. The last sound she heard before she drifted away was the babies crying, and a man’s voice said, ‘I make sure they are growing up healthy, Cinzia.’
It’s a shame her stiff face can’t carve a smile.
At precisely two in the morning before spring, two shots were heard in the delivery room of an old hospital, and the next day there was no news about what happened. The nurse and doctor are forever on the missing person list.
It’s eleven o’clock on Blueberry Hill. A small town not far from the state of Michigan now looks dead with no activity after ten. Street lights could be seen lighting up the city, and only the howling of stray dogs was heard in the small town of fewer than five thousand people. Mia, who works at a restaurant in Blueberry Hill, looks busy cleaning kitchen utensils and floors. She wanted to hurry home, but doing it all herself made her discouraged. Usually, Matt, her boss, helps out, but today the man went out of town and gave Mia an assignment while Dorothy had already back home before closing. Once her work is done, Mia turns off the lights and locks the restaurant door. She walked toward her apartment five blocks away. The 22-year-old girl is accustomed to going home alone on foot because Blueberry Hill is a safe place with no criminal reports for more than six decades. All residents there are more accustomed to walking than contributing to air pollution by driving a car. On the w
Mia took a deep breath. She stared at the shabby motel on the side of the road not far from her destination city, Denver. After a long debate with herself, Mia finally decided to get out of the old truck that the middle-aged man had given her. The deal was for her to give a yellow envelope to a man named Jaxon Bradwood that was safely tucked away in her backpack without opening or breaking the envelope, sealed as it was first given, and after that, she was free to go anywhere. It seemed like an easy task, but something amiss had been on Mia’s head ever since she left Blueberry. She still didn’t believe that middle-aged man. Arguing for a long time with her thoughts, Mia decided to stay at one old motel. She had no choice. She realized she could not last long in Denver with two thousand dollars. A cheap room can save a few bucks for other necessities. The following day, Mia decided to continue the journey. Two hours later, she arrived in Denver and chose to stop at a restaurant befo
It’s been almost eight days. Mia has been asking about a man named Jaxon Bradwood, but no one knows him. Their reactions were all the same, looking displeased when she asked, and their gestures changed from being friendly and welcoming to being cold and rude. Now, Mia doubts the words of the middle-aged man. “Is he playing me?” she snorted irritably. Mia chose to return to the motel where she was staying. Every time she passed the lobby, Mia got a look full of investigation from the receptionist. When Mia stares back, the girl at the front desk will pretend to be busy with the computer in front of her. Mia decided to hurry to her room because she was being watched. She is very sick of being suspected and considered a criminal just because she is looking for a foreign man whose existence until now is unknown. Upon entering the room, Mia got a call from Matt. This is the fourth time her boss has called since Mia left Blueberry. The old man’s cell phone helped her stay in touch with
Max’s laughter, mocking her drunken state, made Mia so upset that she waved her hand aimlessly, which only hit the air. Her eyes felt heavy, and her body was starting to go limp. She wasn’t sure she would be conscious for the next few minutes. “I didn’t think you could be even cuter, Sweetheart. Your attitude like this is entertaining. “ Mia’s fist only lightly touched the surface of the man’s chest without hurting the target. She completely lost control of her body. “Hey, Max!” From the corner of Mia’s eye saw two tall men approaching them. Their faces were flat without emotion, but Mia’s feelings said there would be nothing good if they were visited by Bouncer. Not just one, but two at once. Mia was about to scream for help from the men, but Max seemed to know what Mia was thinking. Roughly, Max covered Mia’s mouth, who was about to scream. Max’s loud growl startled Mia until her heart was racing. The two Bouncers were standing so close to them that there was no longer any dist
Jaxon forced his body to leave the woman. He walked over to the cabinet filled with liquor and poured whiskey into his crystal glass. “We’ll see how long this woman gives up looking for me.” “But that’s not how you play, Jaxon.” “How do I play, Gavin?” Jaxon drank his drink, and without realizing it, several times, he pulled the tie, which was starting to choke him. “Every day you follow that girl’s movements, you even look… interested when you hear a beautiful woman with an angelic look looking for you alone on the streets of Denver, and you know it’s dangerous for her. She could be the target of your enemies.” Jaxon turned his back to Gavin. He didn’t want his best friend to see the expression on his face right now. When the girl set foot in Denver, Jaxon had heard of her. He even put in some spies to watch the girl’s movements. Jaxon clearly remembered the first day the girl arrived. At that time, he had just finished a meeting with some of his trusted people when Fritz sudde
An alarm sound woke Mia from sleep. Her gaze was still heavy when she found her cellphone on the table beside her bed. It was too early. Several times she blinked away the fog in her head until the sound of a knock on the door brought her back to her senses. Moaning softly, Mia got up from the bed. She was still clad in her shirt from last night. Her white bag is close to her cellphone. The motel room she rented was in the same condition as the last time she left, but her brow creased when she found the black coat on the other side of the bed. She was about to grab the coat when the sound of knocking on her door was heard a second time. “Room Service!” said whoever was behind the door. Mia forgot the suit and saw who woke her up at this hour. The smell of butter-covered bread teased her as soon as the door was opened. “Looks like you’re in the wrong room,” she said to the maid girl in the maroon and black uniform in front of her. The girl smiled kindly at her. “This is an order
“What is this?!” Jaxon snapped at Gavin, who looked bored looking at the cuticles of his fingers on his left hand. “Oh, I forgot about that,” Gavin replied innocently. Jaxon was about to jump over the table that separated the two, but his body was immediately dragged away by his three friends away from the table. Gavin, who accepted Jaxon’s rage, just shrugged and hid behind Rey’s body. Danny Johanson laughed with amusement when he read the newspaper that was still spread out on the table, even Nicko Anderson, who was holding Jaxon’s body, couldn’t help but laugh, adding to Jaxon’s angry fire. Gideon Rose and Connor Black were forced to drag Jaxon, their best friend, to the corner of the room. Rey glared at Gavin, who only gave an innocent face back. He raised his face, praying that he would disappear from the place. The commotion Gavin was creating made him lose his temper. He even thought of the best way to hide Gavin’s body — the corpse — in one of his old warehouses, or maybe
Silence surrounded the room. Mia stood nervously, and she got observation glances from seven pairs of eyes. She felt like antiques in a museum being observed. None of the handsome men in the room moved and returned the greeting, except for one person, a man with blonde hair and a cute face standing by the sofa. The man smiled at her, but he seemed to withhold in amusement. Mia doesn’t even understand where the funny thing is. “My name is Mia He―” “We heard your name just now. No need to introduce yourself twice.” Mia glared at the man standing in front of her. She ignored the handsome man because of his rude attitude, but a sweet scent of citrus and sandalwood greeted her, reminding her of something. Fully aware, Mia approached the man and pulled hard on his black suit so that his body leaned forward. She ignored his angry gaze or the sharp sound of his breathing. She shamelessly sniffed the scent on the man’s suit. More precisely, she almost kissed the handsome man’s chest. Sure

Mia appears to be talking and laughing with Disya in the gazebo when they both hear footsteps from the right side of the garden. At the same time, the women turned to face the source of the voice, who was none other than Allana.Mia greeted the arrival of her closest maids with a smile and invited her to join the table. On the other hand, Allana refused, turning her head slightly towards the path she had been on.Mia and Disya were also drawn to the female servant’s gaze. However, they discovered nothing, which puzzled Mia.“What exactly is it?”Allana returned her gaze to the two women in front of her and responded with a wave of hesitation.“There is... someone who wishes to meet... you and Miss Flontin,” she said, looking over at Disya, who was still sitting quietly with a cup of tea in her hand.Mia’s brows rose to her brows upon hearing this explanation.“Would you like to... see this person?” she asked, unsure.Because no one would look for her during her time in Aurelia, especi
Jaxon walked into the family’s living room, and there sat Jeff Bradwood, accompanied by his stepmother, Ruby. Jeff’s shoulders tensed as he noticed the presence of Red Cage members in the room, even though he had heard them before reaching the gate. However, seeing the parade of men enter the room, Jeff couldn’t even move from his seat on the sofa.“Jeff,” Jaxon said, putting his hands in his trouser pockets.Instead of responding, Jeff Bradwood simply cleared his throat and looked around. He consciously avoided his son’s bored stare.Jaxon’s gaze was drawn to Ruby, who smiled sensuously. But he ignored her. His attention was drawn back to his father, who was attempting to maintain a poker face.“I see you’re doing well,” Jaxon said as he sat down on the couch and made small talk.He gave the two people in front of him a difficult-to-read look.Meanwhile, the rest of the Red Cage appeared to be dispersed throughout the room. He seems to be on guard and keeping an eye on the situation.
Salvador arrived at their hidden island a few hours after the morning had passed. However, Fabiana was not among the people taken by the man.“Did you leave her in Chicago?”Jaxon’s gaze followed the people Salvador had brought to their island, one by one.“Yes,” the man said as he approached Gioluca’s nursing home. “But don’t be concerned. That woman is in a safe house, and only a few people I trust and I know about it.”Jaxon was aware that asking someone how effective they were at establishing people in organizations similar to their own would undermine their credibility. He stopped asking inquiries as a result.“Has Uncle Gio’s consciousness returned?”The question made Jaxon aware of his wandering thoughts.“He's still sleeping. And trust me, you have to be careful when you talk to the elderly guy about Mia and Disya.”Salvador gave Jaxon a weak smile. He was already aware that this was devastating news for him.“I see what you mean.”When the two arrived at Gioluca’s treatment f
Jaxon was alone on the balcony smoking when Nicko appeared from behind. The two guys stood parallel to the railing, seemingly in silence. Jaxon made the motion of passing smokes between them, indicating whatever had been previously forgotten between them. Now one could see the two males sharing a cigarette. They were admiring the lovely sky, which had a layer of Milky Way far above them. They both have access to a view of the night sky on this island, which is uncommon in urban areas. The sky there was considerably brighter than what they were accustomed to. Additionally, the moon’s crimson light seems to hover gracefully amid the various nighttime sights as if trying to distract the watchers’ gaze from what lies below.Jaxon finally spoke after a long silence. He held his stiff neck from looking up too long.In between cigarette puffs, he added, “Mia met Disya at De La Crush.”Nicko just nodded and murmured in response while placing the end of his cigarette in the ashtray.“She also
Four hours later…Six pairs of irritated eyes were staring at Jaxon.Nicko appeared to be the most agitated of the men at the table.“I told you not to kill him, Jax!”Rey attempted to calm him down for a brief moment.“The situation has now returned to normal. It is no longer necessary to make everything complicated,” said Rey, who attempted to take control of the situation. “Besides, no matter what we tell him, the possibility of a heart attack exists”Nicko tried to take a deep breath and massaged his throbbing temples.“Shit,” he exclaimed, clenching his fists and spilling them onto the helpless table.Meanwhile, Jaxon, who had been on trial earlier, could only look at his friends with resignation. He should have taken a more straightforward approach, but for some reason, his mouth was too bold to reveal everything. There was no way to open the conversation with a topic like that.“I’m sorry,” he said, sighing tiredly.Fortunately, Gioluca is in good health. And it is still being
“Did you tell him?” Jaxon chases after Nicko as he exits the treatment room. The man gave a weak shake of his head. And, he added emphatically, “No, not yet. I’m not going to be able to do it. “Jaxon drew Nicko into a hug after noticing his friend’s expression. One hand gently patted his back as he whispered encouraging words.“If you want, I can do it.”The sad-faced Nicko was skeptical after the two separated. He didn’t want to get carried away, as he had been when he arrived.“Thank you very much, Brother.”The two men exchanged understanding glances.“All right,” Nicko said, leaving a group of friends sitting on the waiting chairs, each holding the bags of chips and bread Gavin had brought.“Bye, brother,” the men said in unison, bidding each other farewell for the time being.Five pairs of eyes were now staring at Jaxon at the same time. They were waiting for the head of the Red Cage organization to confess to the future in-laws who were in that room. When he noticed his friends
Meanwhile, Jaxon looked silently at the two guys in the room from behind the glass pane outside the treatment room entrance. His firm lips twitched in a slight grin. He was comforted when he watched Gioluca treat Nicko so warmly.Nicko had one ambition since he was a teenager; to become a respected Famiglia member.Isolation, bullying, and harsh words are little Nicko’s daily fare. So, since he was a teenager, he had worked tirelessly, even harder than the others, just to be noticed. Nonetheless, despite his early success, his status in the Famiglia was still meager.Perhaps God has answered his prayers all along and provided him with the opportunity to realize a long-held dream.“He deserves to be there, Jax,” Rey Fredrik said, standing next to Jaxon. His hand caressed his friend’s shoulder. “Of all people, Nicko understands how the Famiglia lives.”Jaxon nodded in agreement after hearing Rey’s explanation.“I’m aware, and I’m not interested in anything. Mia is sufficient for me.”Th
When Nicko heard Henrieta’s report, he hung up the phone. He took several deep breaths before slowly exhaling. When he returned, he would explain himself to his lover.Even though he had no idea what was waiting for him, Nicko hoped Disya would listen to an explanation. He was about to turn around when a soft voice called his name behind him. As the person said his name with slightly trembling voice, Nicko’s heart raced.“Nicko … Anderson?”Nicko slowly turned his head towards the old man lying on the bed with his eyes closed before. Now that those eyes were staring at him, Nicko subconsciously lowered his head.Children born into the Famiglia have been taught not to look their elders in the eyes since they were toddlers. Because it was an unacceptable form of contestation. Unfortunately, the habit is solid, making Nicko sick of his previous life and he can’t change his behavior.Even though he is now the most feared and influential man in the state, he is still a doormat for those bo
