Chapter:- 1

"Sir, here is the updated census for the next block. We don't have any vacant beds for our service so there won't be any new admissions," Ashly who is a pretty cheerful omega, hands over the document to the Senior Resident on duty and smiles. Alex stands behind her, waiting. As always looking all grumpy. Students usually call him grumpy Alpha. But they are still jealous of  both of their friendship.

Dr. Tamy, who was beta, takes the papers and says, "Thanks for this, Ashly! I'm going to miss you guys. Your tandem's really as efficient as ever. Do you enjoy your community rotation, ok?"

"Yes Tamy, will do! Thank you for guiding me and Alex on our rotation. I really enjoyed it! I'm definitely going to apply to Pediatrics next year," Ashly beams before saying goodbye and turning to leave.

Alex follows Ashly to the door when the resident asks him to come over. He motions for Ashly to go ahead and goes back to Dr. Tamy table.

"When are you going to tell him?!" the resident asks.

"Tell who what?" Alex returns the question.

"You know, tell Ashly that you like her? Bro, you've been crushing on her ever since our Bio days. It's really a surprise how your so-called best friend seems oblivious about it, when you stare at her a lot all the time. A LOT!" Dr. Tamy is one of Alex's close friends from college as they were in the same Biology Majors' organization with Ashly.

When Alex and Ashly joined the club in their freshman year, Tamy was already a junior. Despite the age gap, he was very close to both of them, especially to Alex. He witnessed how the two started out as strangers and how they became friends to best friends. They often did activities together and even partnered up for laboratory work in their classes. They have been inseparable since then, and even until medical school, their closeness never wavered. 

Some even think of them as a mate, but neither Ashly or Alex confirms being each other mate.

Maybe they don't want to confess at all.

Tamy had suspected Alex of having a crush on Ashly. The way Alex looks at Ashly has always been different—his eyes would light up, he smiles wider, and his aura is well, brighter. People were actually scared of Alex, because he could seem intimidating in his intelligence, and he rarely smiles. With Ashly though, his soft-heartedness and humor would come through. Ever since he became friends with her, Alex has become more open to people. It's not really that surprising to be attracted to a person like Ashly. She has always been good-natured, friendly and she likes to joke a lot. Her effortless ability to adapt to any situation and converse with anyone somewhat became a legend, back in their university days.

"It has been almost 5 years bro. On that day when you came to my apartment and told me that you like Ashly in between your drunken sobbing, I wasn't really that surprised. Internships are almost over for you guys, it's about time that you tell him how you feel," Tamy says with genuine concern for his friend.

"You know why. She's my best friend, Tamy. I don't want things to change between us, even if it means having to keep my feelings a secret from her," Alex smiles sadly and begins to walk away.

Tamy calls Alex and cheers him on with "All the best! Just consider it, ok? You're losing more by not telling her. Who knows, she could feel the same way about you."

Alex waves with his back turned and proceeds to the Intern's classroom, where Ashly is waiting for him, who immediately asks, "so, what did you and Tamy talk about?"

Alex just shakes his head and lays on the bed. Seeing that Ashly seems bothered by his non-response, he adds, "he just reminded me to read up on the case that we admitted earlier for the endorsements. Oh, don't forget to check for the blood sugar levels of Bed 27 and also check the urine output of Bed 21."

"Ok. Just rest for now. The endorsement slides are done, you can check it if you want. There's also coffee and cake in the fridge. I bought them for us to share but feel free to eat ahead," Ashly tells her friend who's already falling asleep.

Alex just nods and closes his eyes.

An alarm ring wakes me from my slumber. I open my eyes and see Ashly's sleeping face just a few inches from mine. Taken aback, I push my friend off the bed.

"What the hell?! Why did you push me?" Ashly complains as she massages her buttocks. I roll my eyes and look towards him, well it's not new for us actually. Ashly is a pretty whiny omega who always whines like a stupid kid. But I really don't mind if it's only me not someone else.

"What were you doing beside me?" I ask in a nervous tone but still try to maintain my poker face.

"Sleeping, what else? Duh? Dude, we've been friends for ages, and we've often slept beside each other, so what's the deal?" Ashly said with a huge pout in her face.

'Yes, Ashly we are best friends, but we are also mates and me and you we both can feel this but still we never talk about this'. I really try hard not to scream this on his face.

"Nothing. Uhhh, nothing, nothing. Anyway, let's go to the conference room already. We have to prepare for the endorsements." I shook my head and tried to change the subject.

"Oh, didn't you get a Tamy message? The conference has been cancelled. They're sending us all home early."

"Really? Why?" I raise my eyebrows and ask her.

"I don't know; there are some emergency meetings, I think. Just fix your stuff and let's go home."

"Are you sure?" I hesitate.

"Yes, come on hurry up! So, what do you want to do? We're free for the next three days before Community starts."

"What do you mean? I thought you were meeting your high school Alpha friends this weekend. I'm just going to stay at the condo and sleep." I asked even though I am not happy with Ashly meeting some other Alpha without me.

"You suck, you know. I told you yesterday that my friends cancelled on me. You're such a forgetful person!"

"I...I guess..."

"Okay, I was thinking we could go to the beach and try some watersports. The last time we went, we just stayed indoors because of the rain."

"Are you sure, it's, okay?"

"Of course, just leave everything to me. I'll drive. We can stay at our beach house. You can just sleep in the car. Okay?"

"O-okay..." I say, still unsure of what's happening.

"Great!" Ashly puts her arm around my shoulders and drags me out of the classroom.

Why is he acting weird? 

Well, she is weird.

I shook my head and let her drag me around.

End of Alex POV

The weather is actually very nice, with the sun shining brightly amidst clear skies and no clouds in sight. Everything is peacefully quiet on the beach, just like how Alex prefers it.

"This is nice," Alex muttered under his breath. More than himself to Ashly.

"Yeah, it is," Ashly says as she puts arm over Alex's shoulders. "I rented a jetski for us. I was supposed to rent one for each of us, but the owner said the others have engine problems. I guess we'll have to ride one together."

Alex moves back and tells him to go ahead, "I know you've been wanting to try riding one for the longest time, so just go ahead. I'll just take some pictures from here."

"Ummm, okay. But, after one lap, you're going out to sea with me, okay? Oki, oki, oki?" Ashly playfully pleads like she always does to Alex. She's really cute when she does that. Alex thought and just nod and turned his head away, just to hide the smile on his lips.

According to those who know both Ashly and Alex. Alex's smile is the only reserve for Ashly. Being an Alpha is always making you a grumpy guy and in Alex's case it's also the same. But when it's some to Ashly, Alex forgot everything.

Even his true nature!

Alex helps his best friend wear her helmet and life vest, before sending her off to ride the jetski on her own. Alex watches her speed off into the distance, worried at how fast she's going and how far she's gone. Alex is really going to smack her head when she gets back. She's really fearless to the point of recklessness sometimes.

A few minutes later, Ashly returns wearing an exhilarating smile.

"That's fun, huh?" Alex asks her with a cold voice.

"OMG, yes! It's amazing! You should try it." She carefully stands and motions for Alex to get on the jetski. Alex obliges, and Ashly hands him the handles before moving to the rear end.

Alex settles himself on the front seat and prepares to move the jetski forward. Ashly suddenly hugs him from the back and screams "Let's go!"

"Really Ash, wait, you're coming with me?" Alex asks, dumbfounded.

"Yes! I told you earlier that we should ride together. Come on, go, go, go!" Ashly motions for him to go.

Alex starts the engine and propels the jestki forward. Ashly holds on to Alex's waist as she rests her chin on Alex's shoulder. Alex can feel her every breath on my neck, sending jolts of electricity down his spine. His heart beats faster and faster. Alex keeps his face forward as a smile breaks from his lips and he tries to focus on driving forward towards the horizon.
