FIGHTING THE INNER ME

Gavin's POV

“Daddy, did you want to hurt her?” Lyra asked as I patted her back slowly trying to put her back to sleep. I was at a loss for words and didn’t know what to say. But I had to say something else: she will keep being scared.

“Errmmm, no baby, I didn’t want to, I was just, you know… angry.” She wanted to say something else and I didn’t want that because she could ask one question after another until morning. “Don’t say anything else dear, just close your eyes and go to bed so I’ll get you ice cream by morning,” I bribed. She stayed quiet shitting her eyes and allowing sleep engulf her.

After ensuring Lyra was safe and sound in her bed, I walked towards my room and stumbled on Ciara who was still cowering in the corner of the staircase.

I knew I had to get her out of there, not just for my sake but for Lyra's as well. I couldn't let my daughter see her like this, and I definitely couldn't let Ciara's presence upset me further.

I felt like smacking her
