Chapter forty

Zack’s POV

I looked to the window to see the pack booming in the distance, the afternoon sun hitting the prosperous pack with its harsh rays.

“You know, I heard rumors that you are the best thing to have ever entered the pack,” he went on.

“What makes you say so? The rumors might be just that… rumors.”

“But that is true. You are the best alpha this pack has ever had and I am proud of that. Me, my son, being the best thing to happen to the pack is a blessing and I cannot deny that you have brought this pack more good than harm.”

It was an honor to hear all of this from the man even when I didn’t have any confidence in myself for being an alpha.

“You don’t seem happy.”

“I have been having a strained relationship with a woman. So forgive me for not caring about the good rumors the pack has to make for me.”

He came to stand by my side as I looked ahead with earnestness.

“I know it’s not Fiona,” he said.

“And what makes you say so?”
