Chapter 15: The Challenge

My head tilted towards Gideon. I stared at him straight in the eyes to see if he meant the words he uttered a while ago.

My jaw tightened as I continued looking at him. It took me a minute before I was able to understand what he meant.

“What did you just say, Gideon?” I asked in my warning tone.

Gideon shook his head as if he couldn't believe to see my reaction. I know what he said, but I wanted to know if he was serious about it.

“I know you have a sharp mind, James. You know what I mean, and we are talking about Emerald here. The woman you dumped like garbage just because of your fated mate. The woman whose life became terrible because of you. The woman… I took away from the forest to give her shelter, to give her a new hope, and to let her know that somebody still cares for her.”

I was stunned. I never expected to hear all of these from Gideon, the demon wolf that everyone knew. If what he said was true that he took Emerald from the forest, there could be a payment for it.
