Joseph's POV

Parking my car in the garage, I came out and went into the house, and Lady Tope Hilary came out of the house, surprised, and asked me, "Sir, didn't you go to work today?"

I looked at her, seeing that she was dressed up, and I wondered where she was going too. Most times, I went to work and did not return until the evening when I had closed from work.

"I went to the office, but I am back. Where are you off to?" I asked her, and she smiled, replying, "I am going for grocery shopping and to also see my son at school."

"Alright, be back on time," I told Lady Tope and moved ahead into the house. Going inside, I went to have my bath and to chill out, thinking about how to win Amaka's heart back.

Amaka was wrong, and I didn't only consider apologizing to her now because of my father's threat. No, I am far more than that; only it wouldn't be nice if the rumors got to public knowledge that I lost my father's support. Many people in this area and this city as a whole respected my f

AMAKA'S POVEthan walked into the living room with me, and Aunt Ann welcomed him with a bright smile as he greeted her, "Good evening, Ma.""Welcome, sir. How was your day today at work?" She asked him, to which he replied, "It was fine. I came to see Amaka, and she invited me over for dinner."Ethan looked at me, but I moved over to the dining chair to sit down."That's fine. You are welcome," Aunt Ann was friendly with Ethan, but I didn't say anything as I ushered my son to have his seat.Jason was looking at Ethan, but he was silent. The dining table fell into silence while I served around the vegetable soup and semovita that I had prepared."Do you eat this kind of food?" I asked Ethan as I reached his chair and served the small plate of soup garnished with meat and dried fish, then I served his semovita too."Why not? I will gladly eat whatever you prepared," he replied with a smile."That's fine," I told him and moved over to the kitchen to get him a bowl of water. Once I got ba

AMAKA'S POVI looked back at Aunt Ann, wondering if Ethan had bribed her to speak to me. Most especially these days, she wouldn't stop discussing marriage-related topics with me."Aunt, I already told you that I am not interested in Ethan in that way. I have to focus on my life, build it, and not get carried away by a man who is so full of deceit. Ethan and I are only friends with no strings attached," I clarified to Aunt Ann as she went to sit on the couch beside Jason. She sighed..."It's fine. I also couldn't accept loving another man again after what Maureen's father did to me. But I want you to give love a second chance. You are still young to remain single for the rest of your life," Aunt Ann said, and I sighed."It's alright, Aunt. I will consider it, but not now. Good night then. Jason, come on, let's go in and sleep," I said, moving over to the couch to carry Jason, but he refused, still wanting to watch his movie."Let him be. I will bring him back to your room after he has

Joseph's POVThe following Saturday, my mother arrives at my home and asked me, "Joseph, where is Amaka's home address? I have to go and see my grandson today!""Mom," I looked at her in surprise as she came with her car. She wore a blue dress and black sandals."Mom, good morning," I greeted her, not knowing what I would explain to her. I knew that I had seen Amaka in that new house that was five buildings away from mine, but I didn't want to tell my mother that was where Amaka now lives. What if she moves out? Because that was part of the reason I had not approached her since the last time I saw her and tried to plead with her.Amaka shut me out, and I assumed that if I approached her again, she would suspect I live around this estate and pack out."Mom, I do not know her house address. Just give me some time to sort things with Amaka. I am begging you and Dad," I pleaded, and my mother refused."No way. You either give me the home address today, or you get kicked out of the company

Amaka's POV"I am Hannah Ericsson. You can call me Mrs. Hannah," Joseph's mother said to me, and I replied, "Okay, Ma."She presented her phone to me to input my number, and I accepted it, even though it was not what I wanted. I did, and gave her my contact."When will you be free for us to go and do the DNA test? How about tomorrow?" She asked me, and I nodded. "Yes, tomorrow will be fine, because Jason is now a student.""Alright. That's a wonderful name that you gave him. Take care, Jason," she waved at him, and he smiled and waved back, going into the house."Take care of yourself. I have to go now," Mrs. Hannah turned to leave, and I looked away from her as she went back to meet Joseph.I looked away from Joseph, not ready to say hi to him. As I walked back to the house to pack my remaining belongings. We had up to like 15 bags of our clothes, shoes, and other things we used at home.Once I was done carrying all my loads from inside the room to the car,I bid goodbye to Mrs. Ann

Amaka's POV:After Jason and I finished our dinner, we went back to our new room to sleep. The next morning, I woke to the sound of my phone ringing.Lazily, I got out of bed to pick it up because I didn't want the call to wake my son."Hello, who is this?" I asked groggily."Amaka! It's me, Maureen! Mom told me that you moved out yesterday. Why didn't you tell me before you packed?" Maureen asked, and I sighed, understanding that she didn't want her mother to be alone."Maureen, I already explained to you that I just needed a place of my own. I appreciate you and your mother's help, but when I told your mother I wanted her to move out with me, she refused," I calmly explained to Maureen, and the call went silent for a while."That's fine. I just called to check how you are doing and how Jason is too." She didn't sound happy, and I understood."We're fine. I will be going for a medical checkup today, and I’ll stop by your place," I told her, still seated on the bed."Checkup for what?

Amaka's POV:"So, what did you agree to do? What did you tell Joseph's mother? Although I know that Joseph is my friend, but he isn’t honest about his feelings. So I cannot vouch for you to be with him. Instead of pleading for you to accept him, I should be pleading for my own chances with you," Ethan said, to which I laughed aloud."I already told you that I don't have any interest in getting into another relationship. After Joseph's betrayal and my parents disowning me, I find it difficult to love another man. I am only doing this DNA test to show Joseph and his family that my son is truly their grandson and not because I lied to Joseph. I don’t care about him or what he thinks anymore.""It's alright. I understand. It's okay. Once you are through with the test, you can give me a call. I would like for us to meet," Ethan proposed, but I recalled that I had promised Maureen I would go visit her."I am sorry. Not today, because I want to go see my girlfriend. Joseph's POV:I drove ahead to the hospital on the island as it was the one my parents used to visit. Sitting in the car with Amaka behind me, I drove towards the hospital building. Her scent seemed to envelop my nostrils. I know that she is angry with me because of her child. She is angry because I denied that I knew her. I denied that she was my girlfriend and that we had an affair. Seeing my son too, I don't know how to feel or how to connect with him. As he grew up with Amaka, I knew that he shared a strong bond with her, and that was why she could hear him out and go with me to the hospital.I kept my gaze focused on the road as I pondered the outcome of our hospital visit. If I am not the father of her child, then I wouldn’t have to feel so guilty. But I recalled that I was the one who had deflowered her."Mm," I mumbled, driving for a while, and I heard the little boy ask her, "Mom, is the hospital far?""Yes. We will soon get there," Amaka replied as she looked at me and

Joseph's POV:As we walked out of the hospital building, my father spoke to me, "Joseph, your mother and I are going home. You should come home this evening for us to discuss. Failure to do so, you wouldn't like my actions."I met my father's gaze as he spoke to me in a cold voice. "Alright, father. I will be home tonight," I replied calmly, and my mother looked at me and at Amaka, who was standing aside with Jason."Joseph, we can only pray for this child to be yours. We have missed him dearly, and he resembles you. You should try to make up with her, okay?""Mom, it's easier said than done. She has a new life, and I don't want to meddle with it," I replied, though I knew that I wasn't being honest. I wanted Amaka, but seeing the way that she loathed me and doesn't want to meet my gaze, I cannot force her to be with me."Do not say that. You are not married to any other woman, and I wouldn't allow you to marry anyone else either except your child's mother," Mom said in a stern voic

Amaka's POV.The next day, I set off to take Jason to his school."Mom, when is my dad going to come and live with us?" Jason asked me, his voice soft and nervous as he peered at my face.I stood in front of him, helping him to comb his short light brown hair, and I sighed."Do you want to go and live with your Dad? His house isn't far from here," I told Jason as he became quiet."I don't like your Dad, and I don't want to go and live with him," I told my son, knowing that he might not understand me."But he is my Daddy? Will he beat me?" Jason asked, but I shook my head and told him, "No. He wouldn't, especially now that he knows that you are his son. He will take good care of you."I recalled how hurt Joseph looked when I sent him away from my house the previous day. I didn't want to see him or get close to him, not because of my son that I should just forgive him after everything that he had put me through. He pretended like he didn't know me, and even if Nina wasn't a good woman o

He will calm down," I told Ethan as I walked up to meet him.Although Ethan had a calm look on his face and I couldn't read his mind, I assumed that he wasn't happy with his friend's visit, but he masked it well."Fine. Let's go in. I still want to have a taste of the delicious rice and chicken pepper soup," Ethan replied, and we went into my apartment together.Although Jason had stopped crying, his face still looked sad. I gave him his food to eat, but he refused to eat while I fed him.The dining table fell into an awkward silence as Ethan silently ate the food.I fed Jason and ate along with him, and after a while, Jason's mood improved, and he reached for the spoon to feed himself."I can eat on my own, Mom," he said, taking the spoon from my hand, and I let him be.I sighed, focused on my food, and continued eating. After dinner, I stood up to clear the plates, and Ethan asked me, "Should I assist you in the kitchen?""No, I am fine,"

Amaka's POV:As I walked out of my house gate to wait for Ethan's arrival, I saw Joseph pulling in with his car at the same time. His black car slowed down just as Ethan's car came to a stop in front of my new house gate."Hey, Amaka," Ethan waved at me, unaware that Joseph had slowed down and was peering at us.I swiftly looked away from Joseph's face and went to unlock the gate for Ethan to drive in.Once Ethan drove his black car into my new compound and parked, I locked the gate and went to welcome him.I didn’t bother to look at Joseph’s face, not caring whether he was angry about seeing his friend at my place. If only I had the heart to love another, I would have fallen for Ethan to use him to get my revenge on Joseph."Hi, welcome to my new house," I told Ethan once he parked his black car and got out to look around.Ethan wore a white polo and black jeans, paired with white canvas shoes, as he smiled."Wow! I wasn't expecting you to live around here. Although Joseph's house is

Amaka's POV:I finished preparing dinner and saw that it was after 5 PM. I left the kitchen and called my son's school headmistress to arrange for him to return home on the school bus since I wasn't able to go to his school and pick him up.As soon as I finished the call with the headmistress, my phone rang again, and it was a call from Ethan."Hello," I answered, and his deep voice came through."How are you doing, Amaka? Are you still in the hospital with Joseph?" he asked, but I shook my head and replied, "No. I am at home now.""Okay. So how did the test results go? Did they show that Joseph is the true father of your son?" Ethan pressed, and I sat in the dining room chair, waiting for my son to return home so that we could have dinner together."Yes, it proves that Joseph is the father of my child," I said, trying not to break down at the thought of it."Do you want to get back with Joseph now that he has seen proof that your son is truly his?" Ethan asked."No. I don't want him,

JOSEPH'S POVI knew the test result would be positive, but I wanted to be sure—and for my parents to be sure as well—that Jason is indeed my child."Joseph," Mom called me as we stepped out of the hospital and strode towards our car."Yes, Mom," I said, sighing and turning around to face her."Do you want to get back with Amaka and marry her instead of considering a new woman?" Mom asked me politely, and I sighed."That depends on if Amaka will forgive me or not, Mom. I am not so sure, but if she does, I want to get married to her. I already made this promise to her in the past, and I guess it's fate that is playing a trick on us," I said, smiling sadly as I recalled the past where I made a promise to Amaka that I would marry her and no one else."Alright. Just try again and see if you both can be together and have more kids together. But I can see that she is still angry with you." Mom had a distant look on her face as she watched the hospital gate that was left open for cars to driv

AMAKA RICHARD.Joseph walked up to his car door and gently pulled the back door open for me to enter. I looked away from his face, holding my breath as I didn't want to inhale his masculine scent.Dammit. I didn't want to be reminded of that moment four years ago when I foolishly fell for him and believed him.I thought he was genuine about his feelings for me, and I could hardly understand why he cut me off. Just like that. The memory stung, but I swiftly discarded the thought of him as he shut the side door of the back seat and got into the front driver's seat. The black car was filled with his scent as it was a brand new vehicle and still had most of the nylon wraps on the seats.Joseph got into the driver's seat and reminded me in his deep voice, "Fasten your seat belt.""Mmm..." I exhaled and did the same, and he started his car and drove ahead to the hospital. The drive to the hospital was silent as only the car engine and other cars passing by us on the way filled my eardrums

AMAKA RICHARD.The day went by quickly, and the time for the DNA test result came out.It was Wednesday morning, I was supposed to go to work, but Joseph called me and asked me to come directly to the hospital so that I wouldn't think that he had altered the result. My fist clenched as I didn't appreciate him calling me on the phone, and he used another number to contact me, making me wonder how many phone numbers he had.I first prepared Jason for his school and dressed him in his school uniform."Mom, aren't you going to work today?" Jason asked me, seeing that I was still in mufti and not set to go to work."Yeah, Jason. I am not going to work today. I am going to the hospital to check the test result to show to your Daddy that you are really his son," I said, and he looked at me thoughtfully."Does Dad think that I am not his son?" My four-year-old son asked me."Jason," I caressed his cheek as I was done preparing his tea."You won't understand, but he doesn't think that way. Exc

Joseph's POV.I awoke in my room and sat up on my bed. As I was about to go into the bathroom to freshen up and leave for the company, I got a phone call. When I went to pick it up, I saw my father's lawyer was the one calling me. My brows furrowed, but I answered it to know why he was calling me."Hello, good morning," I greeted him coldly, trying to control my rage. My father was really getting on my nerves with his insistence that I must marry Amaka. For goodness' sake, she had moved on, and I had totally messed up that I don't think I would easily win her back."Morning. Am I speaking with Joseph Ericson? This is Barrister Anthony calling you as regards your father's company," Barrister Anthony said. He is a middle-aged man, and my fist clenched as I sighed deeply."What happened to his company?" I asked, trying not to show annoyance over the phone call."If I clearly remember, my father handed over the company to me. So why are you calling me again?" I asked, with a raised brow a

Amaka's POV: Jason and I arrived home late, and since we already had dinner at Maureen's place, we went straight to bed and fell asleep. The next day, I woke up early and prepared my son for school. Since we had relocated, I didn't know if the school bus was aware of our new location, but I set off to prepare him for school since I had to go to Joseph's company. Although I shouldn't have bothered with resuming there, but Joseph was right about the fact that I couldn't just resign from his company. So, I made my way to the kitchen, wearing a white shirt and black skirt, and prepared breakfast for my son and me. We had tea and bread for breakfast, and Jason asked me, "Mom, are you going out?" "Yes. I am going to work today," I told him as we sat at the dining table and had our breakfast. "Okay," Jason replied, focusing on finishing his tea. Once he was ready, I waited a few more minutes, but seeing that his school bus wasn't arriving to pick him up, I set off to drop him of
