Amaka's POV.
I continued with the rest of the day working and felt Simon's gaze on me frequently. Why was he always looking at me? I pondered but didn't ask him. My phone rang, and I unlocked it to see that Maureen was the one calling me. She must have taken Jason to school, but I didn't want to chat with her about Jason here. Feeling Simon's scrutinizing gaze on me and the fact that Joseph was in his office monitoring me made me uncomfortable. "Hello, dear, I will call you back later," I told Maureen, and she replied, "Okay." I glanced at Simon, and he frowned and looked away. I didn't understand the reason for his frown, but then I heard the buzzer sound. "It's break time," Simon informed me, and I sighed. "Okay." I turned off my laptop and stood up from my chair. "I think we’re going to the cafeteria, right?" I asked Simon as he rose from his chair. "Yes. Or you can request your meal here," he smiled, and I smiled back. "Fine. I'm still new, so I will go to the cafeteria." I exited Simon's office, sucking in a deep breath of fresh air as I was no longer under surveillance. My day had been ruined by meeting my baby's father. How do I tell him that we have a child? How can Joseph Ericson claim not to know me? Was four years too long to forget someone? I tried not to sob as I walked to the elevator to go down to the second floor. As I arrived at the elevator stand, I entered and looked back, seeing Joseph step out of his office. My heart skipped a beat, and I looked away from him, wanting to shut the door and leave, but the security guard told me to wait. I narrowed my eyes at him as Joseph came into the elevator and joined me on the way to the second floor. We didn’t speak to each other. Luckily, there was a female staff member in the elevator with us, and she looked just as nervous to be in the same elevator as the boss. Joseph had grown taller since the last time I saw him. As much as I tried to look away, my eyes still lingered on him. But he spared me no glance at all. How ruthless of him? He walked out with perfectly measured strides, maintaining his posture as he entered the second-floor hallway. The security guards greeted him as he stopped to speak with two officers, but I marched away, feeling upset that I was being ignored. My year of being pregnant, going through all that alone, and the fact that my parents sent me away weighed heavily on me. I wanted to confront Joseph about this; he couldn't pretend like he didn't know me. I moved over to the counter and requested my meal. They served free lunch, and I ordered a plate of jollof rice and fried turkey legs. It was one of my favorites. As I turned to take a seat in the cafeteria, I saw Joseph looking at me. But he quickly looked away as our eyes met. I swear I saw a look of longing in his eyes. He seemed lost for a moment, like he was admiring me. But he looked away and moved away from the security guard he was speaking with to take his seat. I sat two chairs away from him, but his eyes were on me. Each time I looked at him, he looked away. A waitress approached him to serve him lunch, but I didn't know they had waitstaff. Most of the staff didn’t wait to be served and went to request their meals. As I sat alone, lost in my deep thoughts, I decided to speak to Maureen about this first before I confronted Joseph again. He might have moved on, I guessed, as he seemed obsessed with sex. He wanted to sleep with me until I gave in, but he changed after that night. "Hi, may I join you for lunch?" Simon asked, snapping me out of my trance. I could feel Joseph's gaze on us, as well as some other guys in the cafeteria. Many staff members were coming and going. The space was vast. "Sure," I told him, and he sat across from me. "How are you enjoying the meal?" he asked, and I smiled back. "It's nice," I said, feeling Joseph's gaze on us. "Okay, I'm glad you like it. Can I have your personal number to call you after closing time?" Simon asked, and I looked at his face. "Why? I don't need any calls?" I replied, and he grinned. "It's just a harmless call to check up on my colleague. Nothing else," he smiled, and I smiled back at him. "Alright. I will think about it. Maybe when we get back to the office, I will give you my phone to put in your number," I told him, and he smiled. "Alright." He waved over to the waiter to bring him lunch, ordering the same food as mine. We sat there eating, and I finished up my turkey leg before rising to return to my office. I could still feel Joseph's gaze on me, and I tried not to look at him. I exited the cafeteria and went back to Simon's office to sit in my chair. My mind was filled with numerous thoughts. I resumed my office work, helping the company advertise its new products online. I finished up all the new products available and signed out. I picked up my phone and signed into my son's account. I looked at his photos and videos and recalled Joseph denying me when he said he didn't know me. I hadn't applied too much makeup to my face, so why couldn't he remember? Simon came into the office, and I quickly signed out of my son's profile, put away my phone, and waited until 5 PM when the company closed. It wasn't a new company after all. I had thought they were just starting, but it was a branch of their main head office on the island. I thought about Maureen putting my son in school and her going back to her fiancé's house. They had gotten engaged, and he had paid her dowry, only a church wedding remained. Maureen wasn't so obsessed with weddings; she wanted to go live with her fiancé since he invited her over. She would be packing tomorrow, and I didn't know if I should tell her about my troubles or not. At closing hour, Simon rose from his desk and came over to meet me. "I haven't forgotten to ask for your number," he said, and I agreed, collecting his phone. I gave him my number, and he told me he would call tonight. I shook my head, picked up my black handbag, and fled the office. As I got outside, fortunately, Joseph wasn't in sight, so I made my way to the elevator and left the building. I looked around the parking lot and saw only three cars. I sighed, looking forward as I exited the premises. I got a cab and went back home.Joseph's POV.Seeing Amaka again after four years of ending my relationship with her made my blood boil.I had tried so hard to forget her, but it was the hardest thing I had ever done. My family couldn’t know that I had an affair with a poor girl. Although I took her innocence, that didn’t mean I had to marry her. Nonetheless, she was the prettiest girl I had ever seen. When she walked into my office, my heart skipped several beats to the point that I was gasping for air. My jaw dropped in surprise, but I quickly composed myself when I saw the shock on her face, too. She was more than shocked to see me, but I switched to the stoic side of myself, maintaining my professionalism. I had to pretend I didn't know her, but my manhood kept twitching in my boxers, longing for her wonderful touch."Um, have a seat," I gestured for her to sit. Amaka tried to ask me if I knew her, but there was no way I was going back. I had moved on, and my father wanted me to court a senator's daughter. He
Joseph's POV"Hey, sweetheart. I came to your house today after taking my work leave. As we are planning on getting married, I told my father, Senator Patrick Stanley, that I want to live with you and get to know you—the man I’m going to marry," Nina said.My blood boiled hot as I hadn't expected Nina to show up at my house."My house?" I asked her again, as if I had heard incorrectly."Yes, Joseph. Your house. I got the address from your mother. Although I know I told you we wouldn't be having sex until we're married, there are many other things we can do, including cooking for you and accompanying you to your office to get to know more about you and see if we are truly compatible for marriage. Besides, we are already engaged, and none of our families would be complaining. I'm not supposed to be explaining all this to you," Nina said, sounding heartbroken in her tiny feminine voice, and I swallowed hard."Right. I will get home soon. Are you sure that you're in my house and not my fa
Nina's POV:The previous day, I told my mother that I wanted to move into Joseph's house to see him. "Are you sure about this, Nina? Why not wait for you guys to get married first before you move in with him?" Mom said. She was pretty, fair, and a 52-year-old woman. "No, Mom. I want to go and live with my fiancé to get to know the man I will be marrying. We won't have sex; we'll just live and bond like friends first."My mother looked at me in disbelief and said, "Do you think that will work? Nina, Joseph is a man. He could want sex and many other things. What if you end up not liking him and find faults in him? I think it's best to wait until after you both get married, then you can find out everything about him.""No, Mom!" I refused, my arms crossed over my chest as I pouted. "I've already made this decision. I need to go and live with him now. We still have two months until our wedding. What if he cheats on me with another woman? Joseph is handsome, and I have heard stories abo
Nina's POV;"Hello, Mom," I said, walking up to the dining table to sit on one of the white chairs."Nina, how are you doing tonight? Has Joseph returned home from the office?" Mom asked, and I sighed heavily."Yes, Mom. He is back, and we are preparing to have our dinners now," I replied. She then asked me, "How did he react upon seeing you?"I took a deep breath, not wanting to reveal to my mother that Joseph Ericson didn’t look happy to see me. Instead, I lied, "He was surprised, Mom, but at the same time, happy."As I said that, Tope stepped out of the kitchen and looked at me in shock. She had witnessed Joseph's reaction and knew that I was lying to my mother, but she didn't say a word. Instead, she walked up to the dining table to serve dinner in silence."Okay, that's nice. I will call you back tomorrow, as I want to have dinner with your father now, and I don’t want to keep him waiting. You should be a good girl to Joseph. Is he there with you? Let me say hello to him and remi
Joseph's POV,After my dinner with Nina ended, Tope stepped out of the kitchen and cleared the dining table while Nina and I went to the top-floor sitting room."So, Nina?" I called her name, and she looked at me."Yes, Joe," she replied in a sultry tone, and I took a deep breath."Let's sit down and discuss. I want to talk with you about our arranged marriage and your staying here," I told her, settling back into a chair while she did the same.Nina appeared nervous as she sat across from me. My sitting room on this top floor had milk-colored couches scattered around, similar to the black ones in my living room."So, I want to talk about your staying here," I began. "Honestly, I appreciate that you came here to bond with me, but I don't want us sleeping in the same bed until we are married. I am a man, and I could get tempted and touch you before our marriage, which wouldn't be right. So I want us to use separate rooms."Nina's face fell. "I don't have a problem if we share a bed tog
Amaka's POV,I arrived home late in the evening due to traffic. My son was already fast asleep when I came into the room and saw him sleeping on the bed.I didn't see Maureen's mother in the living room, so Maureen and I went to her room for me to unwind and take a bath."Welcome, Amaka. How was work today?" Maureen asked me as I changed out of the corporate wear I had worn to the office. My mind was in turmoil. How do I even begin to explain to Maureen everything that had happened today?"Amaka?" Maureen called my name again, jolting me out of my reverie."Yes? What did you say?" I asked her as she stood there dressed in a green nightgown. She sighed and walked up to meet me."Where was your mind? I was asking you a question just now, and you seemed lost. What were you thinking about?" Maureen inquired, and I sighed deeply again."Maureen, you won't believe what I saw today. I am so confused," I told her, walking over to a chair in the room to sit down. The room had two black chairs,
**Amaka's Point of View**As I stepped into the living room, I made my way to the dining table to join Maureen, her mother, and my son for dinner."Mom, help me climb the chair," Jason said, as he was unable to climb onto the dining chair on his own. As I helped him sit down, I took a seat beside him, lost in deep thoughts about what had happened earlier and Mrs. Ann advising me to arrest Joseph.I didn't want to arrest Joseph; at least let me confront him first and find out if he's the father of my baby or not."Amaka, what are you thinking about?" Mrs. Ann asked me just as I was lost in my ocean of wild thoughts."Nothing, Ma. Let me go help Maureen in the kitchen," I replied, rising from the chair beside my son. I made my way to the kitchen to assist Maureen in serving our dinner. In the kitchen, Maureen had finished serving all the meals in different soup bowls and had prepared fufu for us to swallow."Amaka," she began, turning to look at me just after she closed the soup pot. "I
**Amaka's POV**The following morning, Maureen's fiancé arrived early to pick her up, and we assisted her in carrying some of her boxes.Maureen wore a green dress before heading off to take her bath. When she stepped out of the bathroom, she was dressed in a yellow top and a black skirt. She had a born-again look that made it difficult for anyone to know she had been raised by a single mother."Thank you, Amaka," Maureen said to me once she finished applying a simple makeup of white powder and lipstick."I am going to miss you," she said as she hugged me once more. I smiled and replied, "I’m only a phone call away. Don’t worry; I’ll come over to see you today after I close from work." Chris arrived at 6:30 AM to pick her up in his car."Okay," Maureen said, turning to look at Jason as he walked into the room. He wore a white singlet, blue boxers, and black slippers. He looked at us in confusion, wondering where Maureen was going since she was supposed to prepare him for school."I am
Joseph's POV:I arrived at my company, drove my car into the parking lot, and parked it.At the same time, Simon was just arriving at the company too, and he parked his car.I was looking at his car, hoping to see Amaka alight from it, but I didn't see her."Good morning, sir," Simon greeted me with a smile. He wore a black suit and a white shirt underneath, paired with a black pair of shoes. His fair skin glistened as he flashed me his perfect set of white teeth, not knowing the turmoil I was going through."Morning. Wait, Simon," I called him back as I walked up to meet him."Is there anything you want me to assist you with, sir?" he asked, and I looked at his car again, hoping to see Amaka get out of the car, but I didn't see her.Unable to hold my curiosity, I asked him, "What about Amaka? I thought she came to the company every day with you since she started this week with us?"Simon's eyes widened in surprise as he hadn't expected me to ask him about Amaka."Yes, sir. She actual
Nina's POV:The cab arrived at Joseph's house, and I carefully alighted, paid for my ride, and made my way to Joseph's house. It was a peaceful estate. I looked at my golden wristwatch and saw that it was almost 8 AM. I assumed maybe Joseph had gone to his office, so I marched over to his gate and knocked.A security man unlocked the gate and came out of the house to meet me."Good morning, Madam. Who are you looking for?" he asked, and I met his gaze."Musa, did you all of a sudden forget who I am? Open the gate now. Has Joseph left the house?""Oh, Madam. I am sorry I didn't recognize you. Come in," Musa said, and he unlocked the gate for me to enter. As I entered Joseph's residence, my eyes traveled to the driveway where my car and about three of his cars were parked.I assumed Joseph was still inside, and Musa confirmed to me that Joseph had not left the house yet."The boss is inside," he told me with a smile. I smiled and replied, "Alright, I will soon be leaving as I came to pi
Nina's POV:I arrived home the previous day and told my mother all that had happened. I hadn't even gotten the chance to go to Joseph's house to pick up my car and my box of clothes.I just went home straight, and my family wasn't happy about the news, especially after I told them that Joseph had another woman he was interested in and probably had a child."So, what do you want to do about it, Nina?" Mom asked, and I was speechless."I don't know, Mom. I cannot marry Joseph again, and I will move on," I said. My mother comforted me to stop crying, and after a while, I went back to my room to think about the whole thing.Do I like Joseph? Yes, I do. But I don't like the fact that he lies to me.I later had dinner with my family. Throughout the previous day, I waited to see if Joseph would call me, but no call came through. I eventually went to bed.Today, I awoke and decided to go to Joseph's house to pick up my car and box of clothes. We weren't going to marry, and I would certainly g
Amaka's POV;Still in the living room of Aunt Ann's house, my phone rang, and I wondered who was calling me again.Seeing the unknown number, I pondered whether it was Joseph or my family calling me, so I hesitated to pick up the call."Come, Jason. Let's go into the room and sleep. It's getting late," I told my son as I moved over to the couch to join him, just after I rejected the incoming call."Why, Mom?" Jason frowned, his handsome fair face contorting into a deep scowl. He loved cartoons and was perfectly perched on the living room's black couch, not wanting to get down.He simply had no plans of going to bed early tonight."Do you want to stay here in the living room alone? I am tired, and I need to rest. Also, you have to go to school tomorrow, at least before we take a break and make preparations for Maureen's wedding," I told Jason as I approached him on the couch and sat beside him."Come now, let's go and sleep," I said, standing up and wanting to take the television remot
Amaka's POV:Maureen arrived dressed in a blue top and black straight skirt, paired with black shoes."Happy birthday, honey!" she told Jason as she brought many gifts for him and gave him the white plastic bag."Thanks, Aunt!" Jason hugged Maureen happily, and I stood there capturing more photos of them since Maureen hugged him too."He's so adorable, Amaka," Maureen told me with a smile, and I replied in a lovely tone, "Yes. Thanks, dear."I walked to meet Maureen and hugged her, as I missed her. "We miss you, girlfriend," I said soothingly into her ear, since we were the same height."Me too, thanks," Maureen replied just as she pulled away from the hug."Come, let us cut Jason's cake and make a wish. Or should we wait for your mother to arrive?" I asked Maureen gently. Just then, another knock resonated in the living room.Maureen offered to check who was at the door as Jason and I were at the dining table where his cake was.As Maureen pulled the door open, Mrs. Ann entered the l
Amaka's POV,I couldn't believe that I had just spoken with Joseph.Earlier, I woke up and remembered that it was my son's birthday. I hadn't even made many preparations for him.Jason was four years old today, and many thoughts came to my mind, especially considering all I had been through to have him. When I awoke in bed, Jason was still sleeping, so I picked up my phone and checked the time.I saw it was after 4 p.m., and I was famished. I knew that if Jason woke up, he would be hungry too.Since today was his birthday, I had planned to arrange a birthday photoshoot for him, but because of my new job and the agreement I had signed to take my work seriously, I ended up not preparing anything for him. So, I got out of bed and went to the kitchen to prepare my son's birthday cake and our dinner.I thought about giving Simon a call since I had gotten pretty close to him.Due to the agreement I had signed with J.E Group, I couldn't just quit my job unless I paid 10 million. It was a cra
Joseph's POV:I stood speechless, still looking at the image that graced Danna's phone."Have you seen where your Casanova lifestyle has landed you? You got the child's mother pregnant, and you expected her to kill this innocent child, just because you don't know the value of human life!" Mom taunted me with mean words, but I remained quiet."Mom, I wasn't to be blamed here. I wasn't ready for marriage then, and I explained it to Amaka.""Just stop talking, Joseph, and give me the young woman's number. You are not my son, and I don't want to see your face anymore if you don't go and apologize to that lady and bring my grandchild home.""Mom!" I looked at her in disbelief, knowing that my mother doesn't just say what she wouldn't do."You heard me correctly, Joseph. I didn't send you to impregnate the boy's mother, but he's your son, and you cannot deny it. I'm still ashamed that you wanted to kill this innocent child. Where are your manners, Joseph, and what did you gain from sleeping
Joseph's POV:I gripped the steering wheel as I drove towards the estate where my family's mansion was located. It was far from where I resided, as my current place of residence was very busy, while the estate where my father's mansion was situated was much calmer.Upon arriving at the estate gate, the security men pulled open the large black gate, allowing me entry to park my car. I quickly got out of the vehicle, noting that the sun was still high, though it seemed like the sky was about to open up for heavy rain later.I walked up to the front door and rang the doorbell to announce my presence. A maid opened the door, and I entered the living room of the mansion."Good evening, Mom," I greeted, as I saw my mother seated on the couch with my younger brother, Aaron."Welcome, Joseph. What is happening? What did you do to Nina, and who is the new lady that has a child for you?" My mother immediately bombarded me with a series of questions as soon as I walked in."Mom, I don't have any
Joseph's POV,"I don't need a DNA test to prove if that child is mine. The baby doesn't resemble me," I told Aaron, and he laughed out loud."Must your children look like you? Anyway, I came here to congratulate you on your engagement, and now, it seems like the engagement has become ruined."I looked at Aaron's face without saying anything to him as I went back to my office seat and sat down."I have to be on my way home, bro. I called Danna and told her that I am back. She said she's at school and cannot come now to welcome me. I have to go home. Take care, bro, and try to sort the child out. Besides, when you were dating many pretty women, you ought to have been careful."I didn't reply to Aaron and watched him leave my office. My mind was filled with thoughts on how Amaka had kept the pregnancy and never told me about it.She had mentioned that her family sent her away and she had been through a lot because of me.My mother will be angry once she finds out about this. Although, I
