Ch. 39

Dane’s POV

“I see you’ve returned with company,” Cruz greeted us outside the pack doors. I had already linked him that I was on the way back, but I hadn’t exactly been forthcoming about Bennett coming with me.

“I have, this is Bennett,” I introduced him, waiting for Bennett to come up with whatever lie he was going to say.

“Hello, Alpha Cruz. Thank you so much for taking care of Dane all these years. I have been looking for him for so long. I’m his uncle.” His lie caught me so off guard I’m surprised I was able to keep my emotions in check. Internally, my jaw had dropped to the floor. He and I looked nothing alike, not a sliver, not even our scents were similar. Of all the lies he could have told, this is what he came up with?

“His uncle?” Cruz looked at me as he asked, trying to get a read on me, but I kept a good poker face on. He was pulling at my emotions through our bond, but I made sure not to let them out. Of course, this only caused his suspicions to rise.
