CHAPTER SIXTEEN

DAMON Point of View

I stood watch at the edge of my chambers, gazing at the shadowy landscape before me. The moon, a silver crescent, casted an eerie light upon the untamed territory. This was my kingdom, forged from the shadows—a place for the exiles, the outcasts and the warriors who have nowhere to go. Still, it wasn't enough. My true kingdom had been stolen from me. My birthright was taken away by the treachery of Damisus, and now, the pain of my sister's troubles tormented me like an open wound that refused to heal. Jessica. I clenched his fists at my sides, I had failed her. I had always vowed to protect her, but now she was trapped, shackled to a man who had no mercy. Johnson. And I did nothing. The name alone made my blood boil. The same man who had destroyed my life now owned my sister—my little sister Jess, who had once laughed so freely, who had dreamed of freedom and adventure. Now, she's a prisoner, trapped in the hands of a monster. And as if that wasn’t enough, He took my mate too. TYLA. My jaw tightened, my claws threatening to pierce through my own skin. Even now, the thought of her being under the same roof as that bastard made my stomach ache. She was my mate and yet, she was forced to live in that wretched house, surrounded by treachery and cruelty. How much more pain can I withstand? When will all these end? No. I was done waiting. I would take action. I would take back what is mine, I would reclaim my throne, my little sister and my mate. Even if it meant starting a war, I would do it. The door creaked open behind me, but I didn’t turn around. There was no reason to. “Simon,” he said, his voice even. My second-in-command stepped inside, his movements careful but deliberate. Simon was loyal, one of the few people i truly trusted. He had been with me from the beginning, from the moment I was exiled from my pack and left to rot in the wilderness. He had believed in me then, and he still believed in me now. But tonight… I knew exactly why he had come. “My King,” he said firmly but cautious, closing the door behind him. “You must reconsider this war.” I didn’t move. “There is nothing to reconsider.” I said He sighed, stepping further into the room. “Damisus is strong. His army is larger than ours. He has the resources, the warriors—” “And I have the rage of an entire generation of rogues,” I said, cutting him off, my voice low but dangerous. “Do you think they will sit back and let the man who abandoned them remain in power?” He hesitated. “No. But that doesn’t mean this is the right move.” I turned to face him now, my golden eyes burning with determination. “You think I don’t know the risks?” “I think you’re letting your emotions drive your decisions.” He said, his voice thick. My expression darkened. “My sister, Jessica is staying in that house with a man who has broken her beyond repair.” I clenched my fists in rage. “And now, that bastard has my mate too.” He exhaled sharply. “I know. I know what he’s done. But Damon—if you die in this war, what happens to them? What happens to Jessica? To Tyla?” For a moment, there was silence, the weight of those words pressed into my chest. I was prepared to die for them—but could I afford to? Simon took a cautious step closer. “You don’t have to do this alone.” Damon’s eyes flashed. “I’m not waiting any longer. I will fight him, Simon. I will take back what’s mine.” He shook his head, frustration evident in his stance. “Then at least be smart about it. Damisus isn’t just going to roll over and hand you the throne. If you challenge him directly, he’ll make sure you don’t live to see another sunrise.” “I know.” He studied me for a long moment. “Then why do you want to risk it?” My voice was quieter now, but no less fierce. “Because, he took everything and, I am tired of watching the people I love suffer.” A heavy silence stretched between us. Finally, he exhaled. “What do you want me to do?” I glanced at him. “There was another rogue attack on a neighboring village.” He stiffened. “I heard.” “I need to know who’s behind it.” I said, giving a piercing stare. His face turned into a frown. “You think it wasn’t one of ours?” I shook my head. “No. And that’s what worries me. Someone else is organizing those rogues groups and I need to find out who.” He hesitated. “You want me to send spies?” I shook my head. “No.” His brows furrowed. “Why not?” “Because I don’t trust anyone.” There was a chilling finality in my words, a creeping sense of uneasiness that had been carved into me after years of betrayal. He didn’t argue. He knew better than anyone how much i had suffered. Instead, he nodded. “I’ll find out what I can.” I nodded in return. “Good.” He lingered at the door. “And Damon?” I glanced at him. "Yes?" “Be careful.” For the first time that night, i allowed a small, tired smile. “I’ll try.” He didn’t look convinced, but he said nothing more as he slipped out of the room, leaving me alone to be buried with my thoughts. Alone with my rage. I turned back to the window, my golden eyes reflecting the moonlight. This wasn’t just about vengeance. This wasn’t just about the past. This was about the future. I would take down, every enemy, every traitor who came in my way I would take back my throne. I would free my sister, I would take back my mate. And God helps anyone who tries to stop him.

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN TYLA Point of View I sat in my room, recalling every word the maid spilled. Over the last days, I did pay attention to their hushed conversations. They mentioned Jessica, how she seemed to misbehave in front of Jay and particularly when Jonathan was around. It was disconcerting—how Jessica went completely quiet, almost as if she was trying to fade away. It was more than just fear. It was...something else. Something deeper. Then there was Jay himself. Unlike the rest who tiptoed around Jonathan’s presence, Jay was different. He showed more respect towards him. Jonathan always had a cruel demeanor toward his warriors and advisors, but when it came to Jay, it was different. I had seen it myself. I had seen Jonathan sitting quietly and listening to Jay speak. The way he carried himself was different too, seeming more comfortable when in the presence of Jay. It was as though Jay commanded something from him and was more capable of granting him favors than anyone else in

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN TYLA Point of View I glared at the ceiling as my fury boiled with determination. The candle near me had disappeared into is wax while its flame danced erratically around the walls to create distorted shapes. Noise crowded my thoughts although the room remained silent. The pace of my heartbeat stayed steady as it mirrored my deep conviction. Jonathan had to die. There was no other way. Throughout these past weeks I endured his insulting abhorrent selfish controlling behavior. I observed him perform his victim act while using his fabricated righteousness to frame Jessica and me as unappreciative spouses before standing triumphant in his alleged domination. His deceptive way had contaminated their perception of us while he pretended to endure being saddled with ungrateful women. And they had believed him. He thought he had won. He thought he had control. But he was wrong He was already slipping. I noticed the warning signs clearly in front of me. His paranoia grew wor

Chapter NINETEEN JONATHAN Point of View My hand formed a crushing grip on the phone until my knuckles became pure white as I listened to another pointless explanation from the voice at the other end. “The shipment is gone, Alpha. My team has inspected every control point including ports and warehousing facilities. There’s no trace of it.” I clenched the phone harder as my nails cut into my palm. Gone? The shipment represented a massive financial value which required months of planning alongside bribes and risks before disappearing. My jaw held itself tight enough to hurt but I worked to maintain steady speech. You told me there would be no traces of the shipment. I hissed. High-priced merchandise essentially disappears from existence. The silence dragged on until my blood began to heat up. “We—we’re still looking, Alpha, but…” I hung up before the man could complete his sentence. Still looking? That wasn’t good enough. I needed answers. Now. My chest took hard irregular breaths as m

CHAPTER TWENTY TYLA Point of View I held my position against the frigid wall while my beating heart raced as I kept listening. I maintained my breath while the maid brought Jonathan his dinner because I anticipated the instant when he would gasp and choke as the poison spread throughout his body. The moment I needed to hear his agony as well as see his defeat belonged to me since this villain had caused enough pain throughout my prolonged suffering. Jonathan burst into screaming rage while plates crashed to the floor. “You useless idiot!” His furious tone created an unbearable feeling of disappointment that spread through my entire body. Realizing exactly what took place made me tighten my fists because he had not picked up any food. He had thrown it. I clenched my teeth and restrained a shouting tantrum out of pure frustration. The poison was wasted. I spun around and hurried back to my bedchamber while frantic ideas flooded my mind. What do I do now? The likelihood of returning to

CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE Stepping cautiously through the black blind corridors of the packhouse with cold stone floor muted under my bare feet. The crickets hum from afar in the night and occasional creaking of wood settling here and there were the only noises of the night. With every heart beat, I felt the risk I had taken. The faint hum of crickets outside and the occasional groan of settling wood were the only sounds in the night. But to me, the silence felt deafening, stretched, should anyone lay eyes on me including Jonathan, any rational explanation would be useless. No mercy - no excuses. But I didn’t care. I needed to see him. Jay. The only person who made the suffocating walls of this house feel safe. I felt my fingers shaking while I approached his door. I delayed for just a second before opening the door enough to let myself inside. I risked more than punishment, I risked hope. And hope as I had learned was a dangerous thing in this house. But, as soon as the door closed after m

CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO JONATHAN Point of View The first ray of dawn breaks through the heavy curtains, but I haven’t slept. Not really. The past three days have been a blur of desperation, fear, and mounting panic. I, Jonathan—once the most feared Alpha in the region—am now reduced to a trembling shell of my former self. My study looks like a war zone. Papers are scattered everywhere—business contracts, pack communications, intelligence reports. Each document is a testament to the empire I spent years building, now crumbling faster than I can comprehend. The phone sits dead on my desk, a silent reminder of the connections I’ve lost. I remember when people used to jump at my command. Now? Silence. Complete and absolute silence. It was clear, I am definitely reduced to the bottom. My fingers trace the rim of a cold coffee cup, untouched since yesterday. Or was it the day before? Time has lost all meaning. The servants bring meals—elaborate dishes that once signaled my status—but they rema

CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE Damon Point of View The night chill touched my body, but I barely noticed. My skin had long since numbed to the cold, my muscles strained and tight from a full day of training. Every part of me ached—my arms, my back, my legs—but I refused to stop. Stopping meant thinking. Stopping meant feeling. I couldn’t afford either. Around me, the others moved with quiet determination. Jonathan and the remaining Alphas huddled together, their heads bent as they discussed their next attack strategy. Their voices were low, sharp, the tone of men preparing for war. I ignored them. They were focused on power. I was focused on something far greater. Each punch I threw, each block I absorbed, each drop of sweat that rolled down my spine—it all had a purpose. They thought they had broken me once, thought they had cast me aside like I was nothing. But I was still here. Breathing. Fighting. And I wasn’t finished. I pushed my body further, executing the same brutal training regimen

CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR JONATHAN Point of View The messenger appeared early with a disdainful expression to serve the summons before dawn. Although I had known this day would arrive I never thought I would truly confront it. I entered the council headquarters under the heavy burden of seventeen packs. All elders occupied high-backed chairs inside the circular chamber where their eyes transmitted strong judgments. All wolves held immense power because they maintained traditional practices and enforced laws as important enforcers of pack customs. All the council members had assembled for only one purpose: to judge me. I positioned myself firmly in the middle of the chamber while I kept my fearful emotions hidden. From my time as Alpha I had learned that fear displays weakness while leadership positions should not allow this flaw to exist. The oldest wolf in the room approached with silver hair and eyes that pierced into every direction. Pack leader Jonathan of Cornrow Pack state your pres

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY SEVEN THIRD POV Three months had passed since the pack's last gathering, and the air was electric with excitement as the Cornrow Pack prepared to witness a historic moment – the coronation of their new Alpha King, Damon. The sun was setting over the pack's territory, casting a warm orange glow over the gathered crowd. The atmosphere was alive with chatter and laughter as the pack members eagerly awaited the ceremony. At the center of the gathering stood an elegant stage, adorned with intricate carvings and symbols of the pack's heritage. Before the stage, a beautifully crafted altar held a delicate, gemstone-encrusted crown, awaiting its new owner. The Luna ceremony was about to commence, and Tyla, Damon's chosen mate, stood poised and radiant, her long, dark hair cascading down her back like a waterfall of night. Her eyes shone with happiness as she gazed at Damon, who stood beside her, his eyes burning with adoration. Elara, the eldest elder, steppe

I couldn't believe how I had ignored her, pushed her away when she needed me most. I had been so caught up in my own problems, my own guilt and shame, that I had neglected the one person who truly cared about me. Now, it seemed like it was too late. Jess was hurt, and I didn't blame her. I had broken her trust, and I didn't know if I could ever repair it. I felt a pang of sadness and regret. I wished I could go back in time, do things differently. I wished I could amend things, make it right between us. But it was too late now. The damage was done, and all I could do was hope that someday, somehow, Jess would be able to forgive me. I sighed, feeling a sense of despair wash over me. I had messed up, and now I had to live with the consequences. I walked back to my quarters, feeling lost and

I had spoken to every pack member, every ally, every enemy. And finally, after all this time, I had a breakthrough. I had received a tip from a reliable source that the missing goods were being hidden in an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of our territory. I had assembled a team of my most trusted pack members, and we were ready to move. We arrived at the warehouse under the cover of darkness. We moved stealthily, our eyes scanning the area for any signs of danger. I gave a hand signal, and my team moved into position.
