CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

JONATHAN Point of View

The messenger appeared early with a disdainful expression to serve the summons before dawn. Although I had known this day would arrive I never thought I would truly confront it. I entered the council headquarters under the heavy burden of seventeen packs. All elders occupied high-backed chairs inside the circular chamber where their eyes transmitted strong judgments. All wolves held immense power because they maintained traditional practices and enforced laws as important enforcers of pack customs. All the council members had assembled for only one purpose: to judge me. I positioned myself firmly in the middle of the chamber while I kept my fearful emotions hidden. From my time as Alpha I had learned that fear displays weakness while leadership positions should not allow this flaw to exist. The oldest wolf in the room approached with silver hair and eyes that pierced into every direction. Pack leader Jonathan of Cornrow Pack state your pres

CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE JONATHAN Point of View I never imagined that this would be happening. I stood before the leaders of my pack, praying to be supported—praying for loyalty, They were confronted with nothing but doubt and accusation instead. The man who had always been my mentor, spoke first. His voice didn't waver, but his eyes were immovable. "Alpha, the seventeen pack council has made their ruling, but there is discord in our lands as well. Our people are restless. They hear the whispers. They see the fissures forming." One of the other elders, a woman with a streak of silver in her hair, shook her head. "They are afraid, Jonathan. And when fear is present, so is doubt." I snorted, a harsh sound that fell from my lips. "Doubt?" I repeated. "You expect me to worry about their doubt? I have made this pack great. I have solidified our hold on power. And now, due to one error, they doubt me?" “They fear disgrace,” my advisor admitted. “They fear the consequences of your actions.” Dis

My thoughts are reeling back to the meeting we had not quite long ago. The meeting with the other Alphas. I can still the irritation from the audacity that Damon had. Something was up. Something fishy I'm sure. And I damn did know what it was. No one has such guts if they didn't have backup. But who would dare to back a nobody against me? I was the Alpha King after all. It's not like Damon was that brave of a person. Thinking about it even makes me laugh. "Damon, Damon, Damon. What are up to?" I thought out loud. I knew that Damon was dangerous, so I wasn't going to take chances. I would probably not be able to beat him during the war without cheating, and I don't mind getting my hands dirty. I walked to and fro, pacing my room in a paranoia state as I thought of ways to conquer. "There's no way you're going to def

CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN JONATHAN Point of View "Alpha Jonathan, tomorrow, by 4" That was it, the message. And it had to be from the Alpha King because I had blocked every other werewolf from reaching me. And it came with the audacity too. It could only be him. When I received the mindlink from King Damisus, it made my heart skip. I mean, it was so fucking rude and imperative, and I wouldn't have given it a second thought. But knowing who the message was from felt like an honour. And it couldn't have come at a more better time. Now that it didn't look like the odds were in my favour. I had thought that King Damisus would also come to judge me like others. "The Alpha King Damisus" I mumbled out loud while stirring my drink. I've been this way since the meeting. The betrayal of my people stung so hard that it made me impossible to sleep. So thinking of what a weapon having the Alpha King on my side would be was all I could do. The power that oozes from just the thought of him. His wise an

I feel his unweavering gaze on me but I don't let it get to me. I'm still bartered from this morning's episode and I wasn't fully healed yet. I carefully set his tray and was about to leave when I felt his grip, holding me back. "Stay" he order. I stare at him and it hit like nostalgia. This guy is actually very lonely. I could see it in his eyes. And maybe that was what compelled me to stay, because I was nodding and sitting before i realised what I was doing. This was the same guy that left me incapacitated few hours ago. The same one that trapped me in this marriage. I've never known peace since I was dubiously snatched from my brother, because of this man. But here I am, feeling sad for him. What is wrong with me? Being too busy with thoughts didn't let me give him any, muchless my attention. Berating myself led to the disintere

Reaching the door, I checked the time to see how late I was. "4 minutes late" I mumbled and shrugged. Better late than never right? I heaved a sigh and walk into the room. I'm sorry Alpha" I said with my head bowed and on one knee. I dare not raise my head. Not until he allows it. I have to gain his favour so any form of humiliation is allowed. Silence followed my apology. A heavy one mind you. With my head down, I was at his mercy utterly and completely. Foot steps approach me till his shoes were in my gaze. I flopped onto my bed, staring up at the ceiling. Why couldn't she just give me a chance? I knew I'd messed up in the past, but I was willing to do whatever it took to make it right. As I lay there, my eyelids began to droop. I let out a deep sigh and closed my eyes, letting sleep take control of me. But my rest was fitful. I dreamed of Annie, my former mate. We were standing in a lush meadow, surrounded by wildflowers. She was smiling at me, her eyes shining with love. I reached out to her, but she slipped away, disappearing into thin air. I tried to follow her, but my legs felt heavy, like they were rooted to the spot. I called out to her, but she didn't respond. The meadow began to fade away, replaced by a dark, foreboding forest. I was running through the trees, chasing after Annie. But she was always

"So, I hear you went to meet Damon in Jessica's room," I growled, my eyes narrowing as I glared at her. Tyla stood her ground, her eyes flashing with defiance. "I did," she replied, her voice steady. She replied so confidently like she didn't do anything wrong, and it pissed me off even more than the fact that she met with her supposed mate in secret. In as much as I wanted to applaud her for her admission, I

I couldn't believe how I had ignored her, pushed her away when she needed me most. I had been so caught up in my own problems, my own guilt and shame, that I had neglected the one person who truly cared about me. Now, it seemed like it was too late. Jess was hurt, and I didn't blame her. I had broken her trust, and I didn't know if I could ever repair it. I felt a pang of sadness and regret. We had been searching for the missing goods for weeks, and I was determined to finally recover them. I had been working tirelessly, following every lead, every hint, every rumor. I had spoken to every pack member, every ally, every enemy. And finally, after all this time, I had a breakthrough. I had received a tip from a reliable source that the missing goods were being hidden in an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of our territory. I had assembled a team of my most trusted pack members, and we were ready to move. We arrived at the warehouse under the cover of darkness. We moved stealthily, our eyes scanning the area for any signs of danger. I gave a hand signal, and my team moved into position. We burst into the warehouse, our flashlights illuminating the dark space. And there, in the center of the room, were the missing goods. Crates of food, medi

Damon's eyes locked onto mine, his expression serious. "I was wondering if you'd consider not going with Tyla back to the Cornrow pack," he said, his voice filled with emotion. I raised an eyebrow, surprised. "Why?" I asked, curious. Tyla spoke up, her voice soft. "Because, Jess, I need some time to heal. And everything in the Cornrow pack...it's just too much. It'll never let me heal." I nodded, understanding. I knew that Tyla had been through a lot, and the Cornrow pack was a constant reminder of her past. I couldn't blame her for wanting to get away from it all. "Okay, Tyla," I said, smiling softly. "I'll

I looked into Tyla's eyes, and I saw the same desire reflected back at me. Without a word, I leaned in, my lips brushing against hers in a gentle, tender kiss. We kissed for what felt like hours, our lips locked together in a passionate, all-consuming kiss. I felt like I was home, like I had finally found the missing piece of my soul.
