CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY TWO

ALPHA KING DAMISUS Point of View

I opened the drawer in my office slowly, careful not to make any noise even though I was alone. The key had turned with a satisfying click, just like always, but something felt off. I couldn't explain it just one of those alpha instincts that had kept me alive and in power all these years. The drawer slid open smoothly. I reached toward the back, behind the folders and paperwork I kept as cover. My fingers searched for the familiar texture of the manila envelope that contained my insurance policy—the documents that proved the hijackers were the ones who had been hitting our supply routes, along with the agreement we'd made before I arranged those payments from Damon's account. My fingers touched nothing but wood. "What the hell?" I muttered, pulling the drawer out further, shoving aside papers. The envelope was gone. I yanked the drawer completely out, dumping its contents on my desk, rifling through every piece of p

He's going to start asking questions, tracking down leads. Eventually, he'll find a way to connect with one of your men." "And?" "And I want you to make sure he does," I said, stopping to face him. "I want you to set up one of your guys to talk to him. Someone convincing." Vince's brow furrowed. "You want one of my men to take the fall?" "No. I want one of your men to testify against Damon and implicate Jonathan during his testimony. Make it look like they were working together all along." Understanding dawned on Vince's face. "You're setting them both up to take the fall." "Exactly." I smiled, pleased that he'd caught on so quickly. "Two birds, one stone. With both of them out of the way, their packs will be vulnerable. Ripe for the taking." Vince considered this, clearly running the calculations in his he

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY Four DAMON Point of View The letter arrived by courier rather than email. Old school. Formal. Bad news always came on expensive stationery with the council's gold seal. I tore it open, already knowing what it would say. The council wanted another meeting. Tomorrow. No time to prepare, no time to gather more evidence. That was deliberate, of course. They didn't want me ready. "Shit," I muttered, tossing the letter onto my desk. My office door opened, and Gabriel poked his head in. "Bad news?" "Council meeting. Tomorrow at noon." Gabriel's expression darkened. "That's not enough time." "Exactly." I leaned back in my chair, thinking. "We need to accelerate our plans." He stepped inside, closing the door behind him. "What do you want me to do?" I studied my beta—the one person I still trusted completely. "Just gathher the rogue community. Tell them we need them positioned around the council hall by 11:30 tomorrow." Gabriel's eyebrows shot up. "You're plann

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY FIVE JONATHAN Point of View I watched Tyla from across the room as she scrolled through her phone, completely unaware that I was staring. She was curled up on my couch, her legs tucked underneath her, brow furrowed in concentration. Something about the simple domesticity of the moment made my chest tighten. This wasn't supposed to happen. Getting close to Tyla had been tactical—a way to gather information, to position myself better in the pack politics. She was connected to everyone who mattered. Through her, I could keep tabs on Damon, on the council's movements, on all the players. The most important part was the fact that she was Damisus daughter. It was supposed to be a show. An act. Just another calculated move in the endless chess game I'd been playing since I knew myself. But somewhere along the way, the lines had blurred. "You're staring," Tyla said without looking up from her phone. I smiled, caught. "Just thinking." Now she did look up, her ey

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY SIX TYLA Point of View I could not wait for the next day to finally come. The hours dragged on like they were stuck in mud. I kept checking the time every few minutes, my stomach in knots. "Everything will be fine," Jonathan told me for what felt like the hundredth time. We were sitting on the couch in the living room, my legs tucked under me as I leaned against his shoulder. "How can you be so sure?" I asked, twisting my fingers together. "What if they find nothing? What if we are unable to prove Damon guilty?" Jonathan turned to face me, his eyes meeting mine. "I told you I would secure our position. Trust me." I nodded, trying to look convinced. "I do trust you. I'm just scared." "Don't be," he said, taking my hands in his. "I've handled everything. Tomorrow is just a formality." I squeezed his hands and gave him my best worried look. "I don't want you to fall now that I'm in love with you." He smiled, that proud smile men get when they think they've

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY SEVEN THIRD Point of View Everyone in the courtroom froze as a man walked into the room. Alpha King sat at his special place, a smile playing on his lips that made everyone wonder what was happening. His eyes followed the man as he made his way to the front. Tyla felt her heart beating faster. Her palms were sweaty, and she couldn't stop her legs from shaking under the table. The case had already taken so many unexpected turns that she didn't know what to expect anymore. She felt Jonathan's warm hand cover hers, giving it a gentle squeeze. "It's going to be okay," Jonathan whispered, leaning closer to her ear. His voice was calm, but Tyla could hear the tension underneath. Still, his touch calmed her a bit. Jonathan looked at the Alpha King, feeling grateful. Maybe the king was finally bringing someone who would clear his name. Maybe this was the turning point they had been praying for. He sent a silent thank you to the king, hoping this would be the en

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY EIGHT THIRD POV King Damisus couldn't believe what he was hearing. His carefully planned strategy had somehow backfired in the most spectacular way. The courtroom was still buzzing with whispers after the shocking testimony, but he wasn't going to let this slide. As soon as the eldest announced a short recess, he stormed across the room, ignoring the surprised looks from the council members. He had tried to compose himself the whole time, but he could no longer hold it. The hijacker had mentioned the fact that he could not disrespect the Alpha king. Maybe he would finally expose him. In a swift motion that caught everyone off guard, King Damisus grabbed the hijacker, Vince, by his collar and yanked him close. The guards nearby tensed but didn't interfere – no one dared stop the Alpha King when he was this angry. "Are you insane?" Damisus hissed, his face just inches from Kazu's. "What game are you playing? That wasn't what you told me earlier!" Kazu's c

Chapter 149CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY NINE DAMON Point of View I couldn't keep the smile off my face as I walked out of the room. Things couldn't have gone better if I had not planned them perfectly. Well, I did plan most of it, but even I couldn't have predicted how perfectly that hijacker would twist the knife in Jonathan's back. The looks on their faces – Jonathan's, Tyla's, and especially King Damisus's – were worth every coin I'd spent setting this up. The mighty Alpha King, reduced to grabbing a witness by the collar like some common thug. It was beautiful to watch his control slip away like that. I waited until I was a safe distance from the hsll house before making my way to the agreed meeting spot. It was a small, dingy bar on the outskirts of town, the kind of place where people mind their own business and pretend not to see anything. Perfect for my needs. He was already there when I arrived, sitting in a dark corner booth, a half-empty glass in front of him. Kazu. The

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY TYLA Point of View I couldn't believe how everything had turned out. One minute we were sure Jonathan would be cleared, and the next minute Damon was walking free with that smug smile on his face. The past few days had been a blur of meetings and paperwork as I settled into my new role as the acting Alpha. I never imagined I would take on this position this soon, especially not under these circumstances. Jonathan tried to hide it, but I could see the hurt in his eyes every time someone addressed me as Alpha instead of him. Still, he supported me, and that was all that mattered. Today, I needed to see my father. He had been strangely quiet since the trial, and I wanted to thank him personally for changing his position on Damon. At least, that's what I thought had happened. I drove to my father's house, my mind racing with all the questions I wanted to ask him. When I arrived, he was waiting for me on the porch, a small smile on his face. "There she is,"

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY SEVEN THIRD POV Three months had passed since the pack's last gathering, and the air was electric with excitement as the Cornrow Pack prepared to witness a historic moment – the coronation of their new Alpha King, Damon. The sun was setting over the pack's territory, casting a warm orange glow over the gathered crowd. The atmosphere was alive with chatter and laughter as the pack members eagerly awaited the ceremony. At the center of the gathering stood an elegant stage, adorned with intricate carvings and symbols of the pack's heritage. Before the stage, a beautifully crafted altar held a delicate, gemstone-encrusted crown, awaiting its new owner. The Luna ceremony was about to commence, and Tyla, Damon's chosen mate, stood poised and radiant, her long, dark hair cascading down her back like a waterfall of night. Her eyes shone with happiness as she gazed at Damon, who stood beside her, his eyes burning with adoration. Elara, the eldest elder, steppe

I had been so focused on my quest for revenge that I hadn't thought about what would come next. Now that Jonathan was out of the picture, I was left to pick up the pieces and figure out how to move forward. As the Alpha of the Cornrow Pack, I had a responsibility to my pack members. But I couldn't shake the feeling that I wasn't ready to lead. CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FIVE JAY Point of View I walked away from Damon, feeling a mix of emotions swirling inside me. I was worried about Jess, and I regretted the way I had treated her. I couldn't believe how I had ignored her, pushed her away when she needed me most. I had been so caught up in my own problems, my own guilt and shame, that I had neglected the one person who truly cared about me. Now, it seemed like it was too late. Jess was hurt, and I didn't blame her. I had broken her trust, and I didn't know if I could ever repair it. I felt a pang of sadness and regret. I wished I could go back in time, do things differently. I wished I could amend things, make it right between us. But it was too late now. The damage was done, and all I could do was hope that someday, somehow, Jess would be able to forgive me. I sighed, feeling a sense of despair wash over me. I had messed up, and now I had to live with the consequences. I walked back to my quarters, feeling lost and

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FOUR DAMON point of View I stood in front of the large map of our territory, studying it intently. We had been searching for the missing goods for weeks, and I was determined to finally recover them. I had been working tirelessly, following every lead, every hint, every rumor. I had spoken to every pack member, every ally, every enemy. And finally, after all this time, I had a breakthrough. I had received a tip from a reliable source that the missing goods were being hidden in an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of our territory. I had assembled a team of my most trusted pack members, and we were ready to move. We arrived at the warehouse under the cover of darkness. We moved stealthily, our eyes scanning the area for any signs of danger. I gave a hand signal, and my team moved into position. We burst into the warehouse, our flashlights illuminating the dark space. And there, in the center of the room, were the missing goods. Crates of food, medi

Damon's eyes locked onto mine, his expression serious. "I was wondering if you'd consider not going with Tyla back to the Cornrow pack," he said, his voice filled with emotion. I raised an eyebrow, surprised. "Why?" I asked, curious. Tyla spoke up, her voice soft. "Because, Jess, I need some time to heal. And everything in the Cornrow pack...it's just too much. It'll never let me heal." I nodded, understanding. I knew that Tyla had been through a lot, and the Cornrow pack was a constant reminder of her past. I couldn't blame her for wanting to get away from it all. "Okay, Tyla," I said, smiling softly. "I'll

It was as if the weight of our confessions had lifted a burden off our shoulders, and we were finally free to express our true feelings. I looked into Tyla's eyes, and I saw the same desire reflected back at me. Without a word, I leaned in, my lips brushing against hers in a gentle, tender kiss. Tyla's response was immediate, her lips parting to deepen the kiss. I felt a surge of passion run through me, and I wrapped my arms around her, pulling her close. We kissed for what felt like hours, our lips locked together in a passionate, all-consuming kiss. I felt like I was home, like I had finally found the missing piece of my soul. As we broke apart for air, I looked into Tyla's eyes and saw the same love, the same desire reflected back at me. Without a word, I stood up, pulling her to her feet, and led her to the bedroom. Jessica had complained about feeling sleepy, and I had asked Tyla to put her to sleep. Iwas starting to relax when, I heard a soft voice behind me. "Damon, can I talk to you?" "Take Jessica's car and Jonathan's car away from here," Damon instructed, his voice firm. "Take them back to the cornrow pack." The pack members nodded, their movements swift and efficient as they worked to remove the cars from the scene. I watched, still trying to process everything that had happened. Damon turned to us, his eyes locking onto mine and Jessica's. "Let's get out of here," he said, his voice soft. "We'll take my car." Jessica nodded, her eyes still shining with tears. I could feel Tyla's heart racing against mine, and I knew that she was bracing herself for the impact. I was doing the same, my mind racing with thoughts of our families, our friends, and our pack. We were going to leave them behind, and the thought was almost too much to bear. But then, just as Jonathan's finger was about to pull the trigger, we heard the sound of gunshots ringing out through the air. Tyla's grip on me tightened, and I felt her body tense up, preparing for the impact. But it never came. Instead, we heard Jonathan's cry of pain, and the sound of his body crashing to the ground. Tyla and I slowly opened our eyes, our hearts still racing with fear. That's when we saw him... Damon, standing
