David discovered Liam in a stupor standing by a tiny cupboard, his eyes were looking at something inside it. David hesitated to add anything since he had no idea what might have distorted Liam's perceptions, transported him to an unfamiliar location from the present, and caused him to lose track of where he was and what they were discussing.
