“Nice to see you.”
Standing, facing her own mother. She had this long bluish hair braided and intertwined. Those almond eyes resemble hers, delicate lips, and their face contour. No doubt they’re mother and daughter.
“Y-You’ve already grown up, Honey.” Lilia stepped closer to her. Reaching out her hands to her cheeks like she missed doing that to her.
Her heart thumped, hammering her chest, smiling from ear to ear, letting her tears roll down uncontrollably. The unexplainable feeling inside…
“Denise… I’m sorry, Honey.” Lilia hugged her as she lets out all her grievances and longing for her daughter whom she kept for long years.
Lifting her head, she took off her mask. Preventing a single tear escape from her eyes. Denise remained standing as if there was just someone she used to know in front of her, ignoring the strong emotions trying to break the thick walls she built for decades. Concealing the weak and lame side of her with the mask of arrogance and cold-heartedness.
“It’s been fifteen years, Lilia. Welcome back,” Denise uttered in her sarcastic way. Stepping back, Lilia stared at her in disbelief. Shocked at her daughter’s response, Denise’s contemptuous manner.
“W-Why are you this—”
“Why? You’re asking me why, after what you have done to us?” she sneered at her mother.
“Denise! She’s still your mother, show respect,” Brandon restrains her. Reminding Denise of her maternal relationship with Lilia.
“After what she has done, Papa? You’re still into her? Why? Have you forgotten how the whole pack was nearly invaded by those rogues just because you confined yourself inside that room?” Denise distanced herself from Lilia, shifting her gaze to her father. “Getting wasted and still grieving for her carelessness.”
“You imbecile child, how dare you—”
“Yes! I am an imbecile, ungrateful daughter. I kept silent, shut my mouth because I don’t wanna question you or her. Leaving me isn’t easy as you thought it would be.” Her dauntless and emotionless eyes retorted back to Lilia. “You, being the Luna of this pack have been here to share the Alpha’s burdens.”
“I-I’m sorry, I wanted to but—”
“But what did you do? You chose to run away with your so-called first love, leaving us. You put your flirtations on top of your list.”
With that, a hard slap flew on her left cheek. She felt numb, closing her eyes as her mother replied to her accusations. “You knew nothing, Denise. Nothing at all.”
“Is it? I saw you that night, the man whom you ran away with is Limerick, right? You met him first, loved him first before you could even know who was your mate. What else, I don’t even know if you really loved us more than you cherish that guy—”
Again, Lilia struck her face with a tremendous slap. She looked at her daughter with her tears starts to flow uncontrollably, “You have no right to doubt my love for you and your father, you knew nothing.”
“Then explain! How could I understand you if you wouldn’t explain? Despise me then! For being an arrogant and disrespectful daughter. You pushed me into this, you leave me that I needed to survive on my own.” She blankly stared at Lilia, referring to the sudden emergence of the rogues years ago.
The whole pack was raging in chaos, the city center was lighted with blazing fire and the pack warriors shifted into their wolves. The ten-year-old Denise was running towards her father’s room, knocking violently on the door.
“Father! Father! Rogues broke out our first defense! We need you, Papa!” she yelled in frustration. She banged the door nonstop, hoping her Father would open and help his beta and gamma on the war field. But after seconds of knocking and slamming the wooden door, she got no response.
Denise turned again to the village’s direction, howling and pleading screams were filling the entire place. Seeing that scenery, she rushed over the mansion’s exit. Not yet being able to shift, she broke the glass container of the silver sword.
Doesn’t have enough ability and strength to endure the sword’s effect on its every holder, Denise forced herself to grip on it tightly. The silver sword was the only thing she knew that could help in defending their pack. Amidst the burning effect on her hands, she managed to pull it out and rushed to the battlefield.
With her hair tied in a high ponytail and her long dress slowing her down, she grabbed the dagger from her back and slit her clothing halfway. Revealing her inner clothing that covers up from her waist to her thigh. Moving the silver sword below her neck, cutting her long burgundy dark blue hair.
Arriving at the village center, burning houses and cries of women with their children echoing almost everywhere. The thick smokes and explosions flooding every street, howling of pain and hopelessness. Stunned by what she saw, different from what she grew up with. The lively music of the village turns into whimpers of distress, tapping her conscience. Blaming herself as the Alpha’s daughter doing nothing to help.
In a dash, she gathered every woman and child towards the forest. More than eighty adults and twenty-five children were there, “Let’s half the group, missus Jansen will lead the kids to the packhouse. All the elders will go with her.”
The fat woman agrees with her, got all the children and the elderly ones to direct to the mansion. There are sixty-seven wolves remained. Most of them were elderly who refused to go to the mansion. “All that remained here, we are all women but that wouldn’t be the reason for us just to stand and cry. We may not have the strength and ability but we still can defend.” Some other women tried to run away to the forest, opposing what Denise wanted but stopped when she yelled. “Then run! Live to your life’s content knowing you cowardly retreat from this battle.”
“This is our place, we will fight and defend even if it costs our own life.”
“For my sons and daughters, I will defend.”
“To ensure what lies in the future, I will stand and defend.”
Various conformity and approval from the women in front of her, flickering her flaming willpower of defending her pack. Shifting to everyone’s wolves, Denise leads them back to the battlefield with only the silver sword as her weapon.
“The inauguration will start, go back to the hall, Denise.” She nods at her Father’s command.
Walking past the door, Sydney catches up with her. “A-are you okay?”
“Better than okay,” replies Denise, forcing a smile on her face. Marching along the hallway as if nothing happened. “I have said what I should say. Nothing more, nothing less.”
“If that’s it, I wouldn’t interfere.” Sydney smiled, “But if there is something you wanted to talk about, I’m just here, I am your friend, eh!”
“Sure, I know you’ll not stop asking about that.”
“Whatever,” she said, rolling her eyes in guilt. Denise had known her for being an impatient and importunate creature that will not stop until she doesn’t get what she wants, sometimes an annoying one.
Appearing in the main hall, everyone had already taken off their masks. A round of applause greeted Denise as she stepped onto the stage. With the current beta Raven handing her a glass of red wine, “Thank you,” she mouthed as she takes the glass.
“Shadowstone pack,” Denise introduced, raising the red wine. “I wouldn’t take this introduction longer, this urgent gathering is simply the inauguration. I would like to thank you all for coming, toast for the pack and the newly appointed Beta and Gamma.”
Stepping closer to Denise was Lachlan and Auriel in their stunning black tuxedo and well-groomed hair. “Beta Lachlan, Gamma Auriel, congratulations!” The current Alpha Brandon popped up with his gamma on his side. Holding a glass bowl and the dagger of epsilon.
“Congratulations!” greetings from the crowd as they drink their red wine.
After setting the table, the three of them were advised to perform the blood compact. Putting off all the lights and only the candles around were lit. With the dagger and clear bowl in front of them, she initiated the compact.
She took a deep breath and pushed out a smile. Now comes the time she’s been waiting for. The moment she, herself, would take the highest position in Shadowstone together with the toughest responsibility. If this is a dream, then she’d better not wake up.
“Being the Alpha of this pack with the affiliation of obligations and missions. I, Denise Soleil Shadowstone, take this position and uphold these duties and responsibilities corresponding to this rank. Leading Shadowstone as my unending mission.” Piercing through her skin, she let her blood drip onto the bowl. “Will keep and serve this pack to peace and freedom.”
Passing the dagger over to Lachlan who gently clasps it, “Being the beta of this pack, linked with my loyalty and commitment to upholding duties and responsibilities. I, Lachlan Riaju, take the beta position. Swear to support the Alpha, guard the whole land to the extent of my ability against any harm.” Making an incision on his arm, he dripped his blood on the bowl.
Taking over the dagger, Auriel let out a smile, “Being the gamma of this pack, tied with my allegiance and role. I, Auriel Deran, take the gamma position solemnly. Affirming the roles and duties attached to this stature.” Doing the same as Denise and Lachlan did, he cuts open his flesh and lets his blood drip on the bowl.
A round of applause rolled over the insides of the mansion as the pact and taking an oath of the next leaders stood over Shadowstone pack. But as the celebration remained to be a cheerful one, a crashing sound suddenly shattered the party. “Inauguration, huh?” voiced someone of a very familiar tone, a mocking one. A man in a cloaked blue suit leaped down from the shattered glass ceiling. Across his chest was a red satin sash with an embroidered figure of an eye. ‘The emblem of Laxon University… that filthy place again.’ Denise muttered inside her head while her eyes narrowed and the dagger in her hand slid off her grip.
Denise Soleil’s POV My eyes can’t keep away from the tiny red gem sitting in my hand. The tiny thorns surrounding every coil in its frizzled structure didn’t change, still serrated and jagged that the longer it stayed in my hands out of its sphere chamber, the deeper it penetrates my palm.“I think we lost them,” sounded a panting voice that emanated from behind me. I simply veered a glance at her and replied a nod before tossing her a pair of clothes. A shirt and cargo pants I got from the human world. A day after I came back from that world, the clothes I bought from the humans seemed to be easier to slide in. Thus, I ordered Lachlan to scatter bags containing these fabrics across the territory for the warriors and even us to have something covering our bodies after we shift rather than walking around naked.“Then what do we gonna do next? It’s not like we can easily return to the pack mansion and carry on with the inauguration, right?” Sydney blurted a
“Have you seen him?” asks a woman in a purple dress embroidered with rhinestones and bits of sparkling crystals.“Who? The vampire prince?” replied her sister with long pearl-colored hair. Both have a book of the same cover in their arms, sitting on a wooden seat swing under an enormous mango tree.“Magnus,” blurted the lady in a lilac dress wearing the most expensive smile on her face. She looks so happily confident mentioning that Guy’s name. “His name is Magnus. He talked to me, Afana! I-I still can’t believe he talked to me!” Her cheeks turned tomato and still the smile on her face retained and grew wider. Her expression was undoubtedl
“What do you want? Why don’t you just step down from your place and let her take over? You’re not pushing me away just because of your concern for your sister but of something else.”“I want to stop the war, Magnus. I need you and this place beside you to fulfill that mission. Let me be your queen and that is all I’m asking from you.”“What about loving you?”“What about loving you?”“What about loving you?”“Putang— arrgghhh!” I irritatedly pulled my hair in frustration hearing those words repeat and echo inside of my head. For three hours. For freaking three hours! And what’s more terr
“Assemble the array! All aim at the Carus’!” shouts a man in a battle suit. His hair was pitch black and his metal headgear was off, making that defined carved-like jaw visible. From this perspective, it looks like they both won the battle against the anti-peace battalions of vampires in the south. My eyes roamed around, this is not the white wolf’s castle. Where could it be?Pinned and hung on the walls were eleven flags embroidered with the eleven territories of Claveria Haltera. Also, in front of this gigantic hall were two thrones both at the same level.Flocking the whole place were vampires and werewolves, on their hands were chalices filled with wines. Their faces were lit with avid as if in peace and rest but suddenly erased when sequential thundering bombings emanated from the grounds of the castle. Is the vampire king already dead
“Afana!” My eyes forcedly opened as the same reaction and voice reverberated inside of my head like it was a direct call. I roamed my sight across the room I’m in and sighed, I’m still in the same room, no changes and still no one discovered traveled back in an important scenario time. It may look far from the dimly lighted royal room I saw, but the chills it sends feel the same. Perhaps, because this place witnessed the real history. The past that had been concealed by the anti-peace’s lies. Anti-peace congress’ lies. A sly smirk formed on my lips as a thought entered my brai
Third-Person’s POV“Two choices, Laxon personnel. One, to die and get buried with this place or, give me what I want. You better choose what benefits you the most.”With an arrogant smile and a wink, Denise Shadowstone pulled the door open and left a final glance at them before closing the door exiting.“She knew it. How? When did she—h*ck! Where is Verdiga?”“Stop fussing around, Gallardo.”“She knew how to use that emblem.”“Summon Verdiga!”“If she spoils out the truth, then all eyes will be on Laxon. We’ll be buried with this land, idiot!”
“He’ll only give you the crest once you accept the proposal.”“What proposal?”“The envelope he gave you the other day.” The glossy cream-colored envelope on my hand crumpled, replaying what his Beta said last night. He did give me a fake one and the envelope he gave me back in the cursed palace was actually a written marriage proposal as Marcus said! And what’s unacceptable was it just contains…‘Birds do it. Bees do it. Even educated fleas do it; let’s do it. Let’s fall in love.’ Who calls that a marriage proposal?!“Speed u
“Hakbang, alisto!” Yells the highest guard personnel in full authority, raising his riffle with its chamber on his shoulder level. He stood in the hold, full of power and control over all the high-skilled patrols. He wears this suit of blue and a red sash-like crossing over his shoulder and on it pinned different crests that, perhaps, represent the high rank he’s in.“Saje, shuwa, taddo!” With the count of the high guard, the terrifying banging of the drums filled the wide court hall. The drum was made out of vertically narrow lengths of wood with a slightly beveled edge to form its torso. Animal skin, probably, is stretched over the torso and was tightened with a rope.
Chapter 52: The last mission“Sinak baw sik-a ay maila.”“N-Nice to see you.”“Why are you turning away, darling?” “I have built walls around me for years to stop this stupid thing called ‘mates’. I didn’t expect this to happen any sooner than I expected.” I never thought this would be harder than climbing a greasy bamboo pole.’“Are you trying to push me away?” ‘This guy really challenges me into a battle.’‘Why would he even challenge me when he’s just block
“No.” I step back away from her. “I got what you need. This, right?” My hand quickly grabbed the scroll from my pocket and showed it to her. “Bring back my memories and I’ll give you the scroll.” But she just sneered at me and held the tip of the scroll with her finger. “I can get the scroll even without your mere help, Denise. Between the two of us, you need help more than I do.” Her hand moved and stroked the air, delivering a swift wind that immediately snatched the thing out of my grip.“Your mother… has agreed to this when she left for that man.” The moon goddess treaded, closing our distance. She lifted her hand and brushed my cheek with the back of her fingers. “You are a child of
“The sea will not leave and it will not be the last moment we could watch the sunrise together.”“This time you’re not just an imagination anymore. I see you alive and breathing, Soleil.” I tightly closed my eyes and shook my head multiple times hearing those words on repeat inside my head. Not getting my sight off the thing in my hands, I clutched it tighter. The old brown paper and the ancient letterings imprinted on it. The engraved figure of a dragon crossing the crescent moon clasping the rolled paper in place, the emblem of Nightshade. I finally got the venturi scroll. The reason I sneaked in the headquarters of
Interesting… I leaned my back on the wooden wall while I’m up the wooden beam on the ceiling of the room. Underneath my sight were familiar faces I may have seen somewhere. A woman with short blue tinted hair. And a man with darkened ones, a mustache was on his face. and of course, there’s this guy whom I do not understand who he is to me. Been said that I’m his mate but…“You attempted to kill your first born but he’s been rescued by someone who sees him as a tool he could use. Limerick raised your son for his benefit, feeding him lies and on his tenth birthday, he asked you Lilia to be with him for ten y
Zaetron’s POV Marcus met me as I closed the door to the room where Soleil was in. I have already unclasped all chains on her after confirming it was really Denise Soleil. Every exit equals to four ranked patrol warriors guarding. And to her current state, it will be hard for her to get away if she’s planning to escape.“Letters are already sent by Ferisha to Shadowstone. Sooner or later, they will be here. What are you planning to say to them?” he asked when we reached the furren corridors of the mansion leading to the headquarters. I nodded. “What are the things you’ve discovered? Aside from her fake identity as Jarred’s sister?”“Trist
“Who are you?” His terrorizing tone sends chills on my spine, adding his piercing killer eyes that slay with just a single stare. His hand wrapped around my neck stiffened that I hardly breathe and all I could do was push his hand away. He’s killing me. Is this the way he usually asks? Or perhaps, a start of his interrogation?“Answer me!” Zaetron growled and his grip tightens, making me gasp and wheeze. Stupid! How would I answer if he’s not letting me go!“Daddy, please don’t hurt mommy!” I heard Keith scream and saw him run towards the man’s legs and wrapped his tiny arms around Zaetron’s leg. “Daddy, I don’t want her to leave us again,” he muttered with his voice cracking. Even if I can’t see him clearly, I know his eyes were now starting to wail up. His voice was pleading, begging… Unexpectedly, hastily as a dash of the wind, I found myself falling down from his grip. And my body crashed like a withered vegetable on the rocky grou
Chapter 46: Out of the angleThird Person’s POV Palacio di Bulan (Moon’s Palace); A century ago“Avanti!” Palacio di Bulan is a mystical mass of land that floats beneath the space between the earth and the moon. At the center lies a temple that nothing occupies but millions of celosia cristata flowers glowing azure and lilac with a pond in it as the moon’s light darts upon. On the temple’s left side stands a huge castle. It was of marble that reflects the light of the moon. There was a broken brick bridge by the arch entrance that seems like it has been cut intentionally. Like there has to be its other half left behind. There were two cylindrical towers standing on the gate’s sides parted by walls that were engraved with windows. On the inner side was the mansion that was even taller than the entrance towers. Around lives dozens of green trees and on their branches hang lurches and vines of jade plant. Down lingers its blue flowers that resem
I pulled the fabric on my chin to cover half of my face as I kept my foot attached firm on the highest branch of the tree beside the gushing river of Amtala. It’s almost midday as I have promised Keith. The forest was quiet and lucid as usual. By far I have not seen anything suspicious as is. I was about to lunge down when a tiny voice caught my ears.“Mommy?” A little boy wearing a simple brown shirt and loose blue pants was running towards the tree I’m on. His dark hair tainted red on its tips looks like a fireball dashing if I am to see his head only. I quickly leaped to meet him and a wide smile crept on his face
