“He’ll only give you the crest once you accept the proposal.”
“What proposal?”
“The envelope he gave you the other day.”
The glossy cream-colored envelope on my hand crumpled, replaying what his Beta said last night. He did give me a fake one and the envelope he gave me back in the cursed palace was actually a written marriage proposal as Marcus said!
And what’s unacceptable was it just contains…
‘Birds do it. Bees do it. Even educated fleas do it; let’s do it. Let’s fall in love.’
Who calls that a marriage proposal?!
“Speed up, will you?” Sydney burst in and kicked me from the side causing me to nearly fall down a cliff.
I swiftly grip a tree’s popping root and forcedly carried myself up. “Could you stop physical assault being your name?”
“Uhm, no,” she shook her head. “It’s in my blood.”
Laxon was so generous to lend us nothing but a pack of only clothes on our departure. And they wouldn’t have given us that bag if I hadn’t forced them to. The emblem, it’s back in its case. Safely inside of Verdiga’s pillow.
“I haven’t been to the council but I remember Father mention it is on the Madfur Okami’s territory.”
“Between Sanguine’s and Madfur’s borders to be exact,” I corrected.
“So, if we walk on foot…” Sydney paused. Then latter looked at me with her eyes widened. “Denise, we’ll be taking two days! Shouldn’t we be on our wolves?”
“I’m not into running today,” I complained. Always I have been not into shifting always and prefer my human form as possible. And added by my unusual laziness level three this time. It’s like my body feels heavier than before.
Maybe because it’s been a long time since I frequently used my wolf.
“Sometimes, I really question myself why I have to be with you,” she sighed and returned to walk along the path.
“Simply because you need my influence to get enough distance from Rylan.”
Calculating the hours wasted on that two days, I hastily leaped in the air and shifted on my deep blue-colored wolf.
“That’s good you changed your mind,” she commented and leaped the same way I did and landed on the ground with her chestnut wolf.
Boosting speed, the remaining fifty kilometers were to be junked out in half a day.

“You didn’t tell me there was a river to be crossed!” Sydney grumbled through the mind-link, hesitating to jump from the other side of the Amtala river.
“Seriously? You didn’t know we’re crossing this?”
“You didn’t tell me!”
I rolled my eyes, “Just jump, will you? Are you a cat?”
She growled in response and hurled me a bad glare. Then she really jumped out carelessly that she almost slip down the boulder rock on the center of the river.
I couldn’t stop but laugh which she growled even more and quickly leaped towards my place, letting out her claws. Attempting to scratch me. Luckily, I dodged and rolled away. And again, bolted back to the way leading to the council.
Taking hours of travel, we almost crawl towards the gates of the council. Why? Firstly, because the generous Laxon only offered tea. Second, there was nothing on the way to hunt or even fruits to climb but only pine trees! It’s like food resources intentionally were repelled from us.
Lastly, the council’s defense system was turned on that we need to jump, run and flip just to dodge the silver bullets! Also, that was intentionally activated as part of the exam. A screening process.
“Welcome to the werewolf council. I’m Neferna, a ranger patrol. May you let me lead you to your room, miss Shadowstone,” introduced a lady in an off-shoulder white top, a black corset hugging her waist, and a long red dress.
And on her hands were two robes of natural green furs. Oh, that looks comfortable.
Shifting back to my human form, I hastily stretched my hand towards her. “Can we borrow those?” I smiled at her.
The lady smiled back and handed the robes, “Oh, this is really intended for you. Here you go.”
“Thank you,” replied Sydney.
I quickly wore the fabric and smiled back at the lady. “Where are the council heads?”
“They are scheduled for assembly in an hour, Shadowstone. And they want you to know that the council always demands a formal conference. Hence, your clothes are prepared accordingly. So as the manners and behaviors are strictly observed. I hope miss Shadowstone could be under the rules during your stay.”
I nodded. “If that’s the propriety, I don’t have a right to disobey,” I answered and bowed respectively.
She claims that she is a patrol ranger, but I see no badge on her. Werewolf Council holds strong defense and security that being each rank and role that a wolf was here for serves commitment and loyalty interpreted by a badge that is attached to them all the time.
And being a patrol ranger is not an exception to that badge.
This lady not having her badge is potentially an imposter. Across the five directorates who are the second positions in the werewolf council, they’re all men. But I know one who can easily copy and be someone he wanted to be. Gifted the ability of a swindler.
Carlos Insigno, the head directorate of the werewolf council.
“This way, miss Shadowstone,” the lady gestured and opened the door leading to a room.
“Thank you,” I responded before entering.
Sydney was to follow and enter the room I’m in, but the lady raised her hand. “Only one person was allowed in every room, miss Darlia.”
Council had already known her? I shrugged. Why am I even wondering? With their records and fast intel. Of course, they do!
“It’s a policy. I hope you understand. We have plenty of rooms, two are prepared. Follow me,” she added.
Sydney looked at me meaningfully. I nodded in response, replying an approval, and closed the door. My eyes quickly roamed around the room, memorizing possible exits and parts that can be useful if combat happens.
Beside the king-size bed was a large olive-painted box. My forehead creased as curiosity hits me. I stepped furthermore until only a meter was left between mg foot and the box. My hand stretches and pulled the ribbon off.
“A formal conference, they say,” I winced.
Pulling the ribbon causes the box to collapse and reveal a dress. Plain design and no sequins stitched, the deep green color of the outer fabric blends well with the underskirt’s dark auburn. From the bust down to the waist, a silken string was tied closing the garment and acting as the corset itself. Its sleeves were long and were cut laterally. And the end of the dress reaches the floor.
“The council was to be assembled in the next minutes, I hope miss Shadowstone would take the remaining time wisely and be earlier than the Panels’ and Directorates’ arrival,” knocks the same voice of that lady behind the door.
“I will, please rest assured,” I calmly answered before throwing myself into the bathroom and starting a bath conserving every second that ticks.
Everything went well and on time. Until I found myself in front of the mirror under the garment they provided. My eyes narrowed noticing my face seems to have swelled up. I raised my hand and poked my cheek.
I don’t remember getting bitten by a bee or something. Why is this?
“Then tell me how would I secure my pack if I’ll be letting her go again? If I always would listen to you or her, would that save Nightshade? If you’re thinking that Silvan could take over, I don’t want to risk my brother’s life. If things go against the plan, all eyes will focus on him. I don’t want to burden him with responsibilities at that age,”
“W-what if— she got pregnant? Then you’re giving another responsibility to her.”
“Let her be… I will let her decide. She can reject me but not the child. I will let her go, take her with you. But when the clock stops ticking, I will get her back.”
I shook my head numerously, taking off those words from my head. I must be overthinking. Right, I’m just overthinking. It’s just one time, one time! It’s impossible.
That red mushroom! If he dares slick his nose in my matters, I swear I’ll tear him into pieces!
“Miss Shadowstone? Are you ready?” knocks the woman out of a sudden that I accidentally dropped the hairbrush in shock and tossed a glass perfume canister.
“In a minute, please!” I answered in a modest tone as I tried to seize the bottle before it crashes to the floor. But as soon as I touched its mouth, it slipped right away and a loud shattering sound was made.
Great!
“Miss Shadowstone, are you alright?”
“Yes, I’m good. It was an accident.” I stood up and opened the door, showing the broken glass to her. “I’m really sorry for my carelessness. Don’t worry, I’ll clean it after the conference,” I assured and forced a smile out.
Her eyes moved towards the vanity table and down underneath. “I will expect that, miss Shadowstone.”
“Hakbang, alisto!” Yells the highest guard personnel in full authority, raising his riffle with its chamber on his shoulder level. He stood in the hold, full of power and control over all the high-skilled patrols. He wears this suit of blue and a red sash-like crossing over his shoulder and on it pinned different crests that, perhaps, represent the high rank he’s in.“Saje, shuwa, taddo!” With the count of the high guard, the terrifying banging of the drums filled the wide court hall. The drum was made out of vertically narrow lengths of wood with a slightly beveled edge to form its torso. Animal skin, probably, is stretched over the torso and was tightened with a rope.
“The Alpha of Shadowstone conceived the Alderhaw’s child!” My ears shut down and my mind went blank. My body moved uncontrolled and on my hand was a sharp blade aimed right through my belly.“If I said my connection to that man had already ended the day we parted, should I also show an affirmation?” I tightly clutched the dagger and shoved it piercing the garment. I’m only a step away, and I couldn’t afford to lose that position I worked hard for just because of a minor reason.“If it means detaching all connections to that Alderhaw includes killing my own child, I don’t mind making a small sa
“You give us the scroll, and we’ll give you the Alpha position.” I smirked.“Fake ones are not for an official agreement, I guess.” My leg crossed over my right with my head tilting side. “May I suggest you to offer the real council pendant?” Because the thing presented on the table was a fake one, a perfect replica but a failed duplicate. I remember what the council pendant looks like years ago. When Clayton Agassi himself went to Laxon for an agreement with the same mask, stance, and tone. And because I’m a great nosy lady, of course, I had to lurk around that time. Following them to a room so private. Luckily, I slipped in effortlessly. Because that time, Rocco was already in a good position as a patrol escort. He lets me in through a disguise. The Council pendant is a key itself. The top part was in a shape of a crescent moon. Besides the moon were a tiny sun and star with a small oceanic blue stone at their center. The stem was colored silv
“Room for?”“Do you see someone with me?” I replied sarcastically to the woman. This is somewhat an inn perhaps, located along the Madfur Okami border. This pack is all about gold and diamonds, I can call this the most hated pack when it comes to trust and alliance issues. Because basically, Madfur Okami was everyone’s friend as long as they have gold to trade.“N-None,” she replied hesitantly and she quickly fill in the papers and handed me the key. “P-Pay the night, madam.” I let out a deep sigh before sliding out the only bar of gold in my pocket. Thanks to that drunkard I met on the road, and to the hanging clothes on a hous
“We’ll be out by dawn,” I spoke, waking him up. Slowly, I lifted my body up and proceeded in front of the vanity table.“This early?” Rocco yawned. Stretching his arms and legs from the cramped couch he slept. I started brushing my hair down and looked at him through his reflection in the mirror. “Want to get caught early?” He smirked and chuckled, giving me an eloquent stare. “Being with you? I don’t mind.”“That again?” My eyes rolled automatically. “Stop it. You won’t get an equal part from me,” I plainly replied
Third Person’s POV “Alpha, you have something urgent to know,” Tristan, the Nightshade’s Gamma, reported. Crashing the convocation of the state. Counting a total of twenty-six generals and high-ranked military counselors, Tristan quickly kneeled down on one foot but didn’t take his sight off the Alpha. “A letter from the council, it’s about the Alpha of Shadowstone.” His voice echoed all over the walls of the room, cracking the concentration and supposed meeting they have. The red headed man whom he called Alpha remained sitted on his chair with his forehead creased and his thumb on his chin, covering his lips.“What’s new?” he asked.&
Denise’s POV“You have no clothes for ladies?” I questioned Marco with one of my brows raised at him. He rolled his eyes and crossed both of his arms over. “I am the Alpha of this territory, how dare you to treat me like a maid,” he complained. “And why would I even keep women’s clothes, ha?” My shoulders shrugged. “So, you don’t? What if your mate comes over?” I teased and lightly shoved his arm. But to my surprise, his expression suddenly changed and he looked at me furiously.“Are you intentionally mocking me?” he blurted plainly.&nb
Those snitches!“I-I got to get out,” I mouthed almost inaudible as I walk towards the door.“No,” he said. So austere and emotionless, causing me to swallow air. I bit my lips as I lowered my head afore the locked door. My hands started to tremble and it seems like my voice turned away and that I do no longer know how to speak. He’s frightening.“I only knew one mistake I did to you. I know you loath me. But—" The way he talked. The way the ice between us formed…“—is it too much burden for you to carry even the only thing I ask from you?” &n

Chapter 52: The last mission“Sinak baw sik-a ay maila.”“N-Nice to see you.”“Why are you turning away, darling?” “I have built walls around me for years to stop this stupid thing called ‘mates’. I didn’t expect this to happen any sooner than I expected.” I never thought this would be harder than climbing a greasy bamboo pole.’“Are you trying to push me away?” ‘This guy really challenges me into a battle.’‘Why would he even challenge me when he’s just block
“No.” I step back away from her. “I got what you need. This, right?” My hand quickly grabbed the scroll from my pocket and showed it to her. “Bring back my memories and I’ll give you the scroll.” But she just sneered at me and held the tip of the scroll with her finger. “I can get the scroll even without your mere help, Denise. Between the two of us, you need help more than I do.” Her hand moved and stroked the air, delivering a swift wind that immediately snatched the thing out of my grip.“Your mother… has agreed to this when she left for that man.” The moon goddess treaded, closing our distance. She lifted her hand and brushed my cheek with the back of her fingers. “You are a child of
“The sea will not leave and it will not be the last moment we could watch the sunrise together.”“This time you’re not just an imagination anymore. I see you alive and breathing, Soleil.” I tightly closed my eyes and shook my head multiple times hearing those words on repeat inside my head. Not getting my sight off the thing in my hands, I clutched it tighter. The old brown paper and the ancient letterings imprinted on it. The engraved figure of a dragon crossing the crescent moon clasping the rolled paper in place, the emblem of Nightshade. I finally got the venturi scroll. The reason I sneaked in the headquarters of
Interesting… I leaned my back on the wooden wall while I’m up the wooden beam on the ceiling of the room. Underneath my sight were familiar faces I may have seen somewhere. A woman with short blue tinted hair. And a man with darkened ones, a mustache was on his face. and of course, there’s this guy whom I do not understand who he is to me. Been said that I’m his mate but…“You attempted to kill your first born but he’s been rescued by someone who sees him as a tool he could use. Limerick raised your son for his benefit, feeding him lies and on his tenth birthday, he asked you Lilia to be with him for ten y
Zaetron’s POV Marcus met me as I closed the door to the room where Soleil was in. I have already unclasped all chains on her after confirming it was really Denise Soleil. Every exit equals to four ranked patrol warriors guarding. And to her current state, it will be hard for her to get away if she’s planning to escape.“Letters are already sent by Ferisha to Shadowstone. Sooner or later, they will be here. What are you planning to say to them?” he asked when we reached the furren corridors of the mansion leading to the headquarters. I nodded. “What are the things you’ve discovered? Aside from her fake identity as Jarred’s sister?”“Trist
“Who are you?” His terrorizing tone sends chills on my spine, adding his piercing killer eyes that slay with just a single stare. His hand wrapped around my neck stiffened that I hardly breathe and all I could do was push his hand away. He’s killing me. Is this the way he usually asks? Or perhaps, a start of his interrogation?“Answer me!” Zaetron growled and his grip tightens, making me gasp and wheeze. Stupid! How would I answer if he’s not letting me go!“Daddy, please don’t hurt mommy!” I heard Keith scream and saw him run towards the man’s legs and wrapped his tiny arms around Zaetron’s leg. “Daddy, I don’t want her to leave us again,” he muttered with his voice cracking. Even if I can’t see him clearly, I know his eyes were now starting to wail up. His voice was pleading, begging… Unexpectedly, hastily as a dash of the wind, I found myself falling down from his grip. And my body crashed like a withered vegetable on the rocky grou
Chapter 46: Out of the angleThird Person’s POV Palacio di Bulan (Moon’s Palace); A century ago“Avanti!” Palacio di Bulan is a mystical mass of land that floats beneath the space between the earth and the moon. At the center lies a temple that nothing occupies but millions of celosia cristata flowers glowing azure and lilac with a pond in it as the moon’s light darts upon. On the temple’s left side stands a huge castle. It was of marble that reflects the light of the moon. There was a broken brick bridge by the arch entrance that seems like it has been cut intentionally. Like there has to be its other half left behind. There were two cylindrical towers standing on the gate’s sides parted by walls that were engraved with windows. On the inner side was the mansion that was even taller than the entrance towers. Around lives dozens of green trees and on their branches hang lurches and vines of jade plant. Down lingers its blue flowers that resem
I pulled the fabric on my chin to cover half of my face as I kept my foot attached firm on the highest branch of the tree beside the gushing river of Amtala. It’s almost midday as I have promised Keith. The forest was quiet and lucid as usual. By far I have not seen anything suspicious as is. I was about to lunge down when a tiny voice caught my ears.“Mommy?” A little boy wearing a simple brown shirt and loose blue pants was running towards the tree I’m on. His dark hair tainted red on its tips looks like a fireball dashing if I am to see his head only. I quickly leaped to meet him and a wide smile crept on his face
