Peter's POV
“Charlotte!” I yelled in anger, causing her to drop my mate down to the ground.
“Oh hey honey!” Charlotte's eyes widened with a stunned smile plastered on her stupid face.
For fuck sake, I don't know how many times I’ve told this bitch never to call me that; it fucking irritates me, and at times, it tempts me to cut off her tongue.
“What are you doing here?” She looked surprised, not expecting me in the ladies’ room, but I kept glaring at her before quickly rushing towards Anna, my brows raised in concern as I watched her grasp for air.
“Are you alright?” I whispered, holding her face in my hand, but she didn't answer; she covered her throat with her hands, coughing rapidly, her face getting all red and fear creeping inside of me.
I looked down at her neck; I could see a red liquid coming down from a small opening that fueled my anger.
“Let me at that bitch!!” Mike, my hot-headed wolf yelled, threatening to come out and launch against that living thing that stood close to me with a grin on her face.
“Calm down, Mike, you know we can't attack her, even though she deserves it this time,” I told him, knowing fully well that I couldn't attack a member of the royal family for my mate.
As I kept staring at Anna with a concerned look, I felt mixed-up emotions of pain and anger hit me.
If only I'd chosen to be more diligent in my search for my mate, I wouldn't have been in this messed up case with Charlotte. It was after I was mated up with her that I knew I had to be quick in my search for Anna, only to find out she is a beautiful slave, who happens to be my ‘step-sister’.
“I don't get it, Peter!’ Charlotte spoke, taking a strand of her hair away from her face and her voice dripping with malice; I felt I could sense a brewing storm in her words.
“Charlotte, please leave now before I do something I’ll regret,” I warned her, standing up straight and taking Anna with me.
I placed her on her feet and held her closer to my chest, her pale face leaned against me.
As I stared back at Charlotte, I noticed her biting her bottom lip, her face contorted with jealousy, and her palms clenched into fists.
“What other regrets are you ready to stack up today? Are you seriously considering taking a swing at me over this pathetic excuse for a mate?” Charlotte shouted, her voice echoing through the walls of the restroom.
“That's enough, Charlotte,” I spoke firmly, my face stern and serious.
“You are a king! No… A fucking acting king!” She yelled, “Why in the actual fuck would you risk everything for nothing?” she spat at me, making the temptation to hit her more overwhelming.
I took a sigh and tried to suppress my anger before I began to make my way out of the ladies’ room with Anna. I couldn't let my urges get the best of me, because if I do and I put my hands on her, I’m afraid I could kill her.
“Come on you loyal piece of shit… let's kill her. Maybe that could solve our problem of being engaged to her.” Mike gnarled at the back of my mind.
All Mike loves doing is taunting me, beating up people, or killing them, and making dark humor at times.
“No.” I simply replied.
I don't know why he can't think about the consequences.
“She hurt our mate, god damnit.” He yelled again, but I ignored him.
As I reached for the doorknob, I heard that bitch speak again.
“You know… I may love you, but you’re a selfish, weak fool. No wonder your parents were so disappointed in you. They probably saw this coming.” Charlotte yelled at me.
What?! What the fuck did she just say? Me… a disappointment?
I halted in my tracks as I heard that, my shoulders rising and falling with rage.
“What did you say?“ My voice came out low, guttural, dangerous. Even Mike went silent, waiting for my next move.
Charlotte smirked, but I caught the flicker of unease in her eyes. She knew she’d crossed a line.
I gritted my teeth as I launched at her; she let out a wince as I pinned her to the cold wall.
“How dare you speak to me in that manner?” I yelled at her.
“Yes!” My wolf huffed, wiggling his tail inside my head.
“Let's teach her how to mind her tongue.”
“Peter! Stop.” I heard Anna’s voice, “Don’t hurt her.”
Anna grabbed my arm, trying to pull me back, but I felt the urge to kill Charlotte right then and there.
She should know I never take insults such as that with anyone.
Who the fuck does she think she is? Calling me a ‘disappointment’.
I know I’ve disappointed my parents by disapproving of their will for me, but she has no right to tell me that.
“Who the fuck do you think you are… huh?” I yelled, my voice echoing through the walls.
“You don't get to comment on me,” I added more pressure on her.
“Peter… Peter… I'm sorry.” She spoke quickly before I chose to let go of her.
I glared at her, moving my eyes from her top to her bottom before I placed my hand on the cold wall beside her head.
Goddess, if she wasn't the daughter of the third king, I would have killed her right here… no consequences.
“listen and listen well… if you ever… ever come close to my mate or call me a disappointment again, I won't consider you are the daughter of the king; I swear to the goddess, I am going to hurt you for real,” I spoke my voice low and intimidating before I took my hands off the wall.
Charlotte's face was etched with fear as she stared at me; I could see the tears well up in her eyes.
“Anna, let's go.” I took Anna by the hand, her eyes widened in shock at what I said.
By now, I’m sure Anna knows I don't joke with my promises; I told her I’m going to protect her at any chance, and I swear to the goddess, I’m going to till my dying breath.

Peter's POV As we left the restroom, I couldn't help but feel annoyed at the fact Anna left the mansion.Doesn't she know about the troubles we are facing? I can't have her wandering about my knowledge.“Why did you leave the mansion?” I turned to her, my tone firm as we left the convenience section.“I didn't leave the mansion on-” “Hey! There you are… I've been looking everywhere for you.”As Anna tried to explain herself, Thea interrupted, walking towards us quickly and hugging Anna. Then I realized it was Thea who was responsible for Anna leaving the mansion.“Where did you stay so long, hmm?” She asked, with a concerned look, “I started to think you ran away because of the price tag.” She pouts her lips.“I… I.” Anna stammered before I spoke.“Why did you take Anna out of the mansion without my approval?” I asked her, my voice firm but sounding annoyed.“I’m sorry big brother. I only wanted to bond with my step-sister… your mate.” She spoke, a bit confused. “So weird and puzzli
Peter's POV I furrowed my brows and gritted my teeth as my palms clenched into strong fists, to the point I could feel my claws digging into my skin, letting blood flow out.Suddenly, I pushed my Dad forcefully away from Anna, my blood staining his white top.“What the hell?” I roared, “How dare you lay your hands on her!” I glared at him, threatening to land a punch on his face.My Dad's eyes widened, and everyone in the room was stunned by my sudden action; I knew they saw me as a disrespectful son, but I didn’t fucking care about that.My Dad has no audacity to hit my mate in front of me.He scoffed as he glared at me, not believing the fact his son would fight against him.“How dare you fight against your father!” My Mum bellowed as she slammed her hand loudly on the table before rising from the couch and walking towards us, her palms into fists. “Why would you protect this witch you call mate, hmm? After what she has done to Charlotte!” Mum yelled, glaring at me before her eyes
Peter's POVMy eyes widened in shock as my Dad grabbed Anna swiftly from the guard’s hold.“Peter! Do you realize what you’ve done?” My Dad yelled, his eyes widened, glaring at me and the dead body that flowed blood, staining the tiles of the living room behind me.“Let her go!” I roared at my Dad, gritting my teeth with a clenched fist.As I stared at Anna, I felt my heart break a little as she stared back in fear, more tears streaming down her cheeks.‘At any cost.’ was what I promised to protect her. Even if it means killing my forces.“No!” A voice echoed through the walls of the living room, making everyone turn in the direction in which the voice came from.I saw the head maid run towards the guard’s dead body with tears streaming down her face.“My son…” she spoke, her voice cracking as she placed her palms on his pale face.“My only son…” she sobered. As I heard that, my brows raised in regret.Fuck! Peter's POV “Hmm.” Michella let out a sigh as she removed the stethoscope. “Her heart’s still beating… but barely.” She told me, making my heart skip a beat.“But it's only a neck injury, how's that possible?” I asked, furrowing my brow in confusion as I ran my fingers through Anna's cheek, caressing it.Michelle scoffed a little at what I said before speaking,“She has a fragile neck, and this isn’t just about the surface injury. The neck houses critical arteries, and even minor trauma can cause a cascade of issues, swelling, reduced blood flow to the brain, or worse.” She explained, looking at my face, which was etched with confusion to what she said.“It’s best if we take her to the pack hospital where she can get proper treatment.” She broke the situation down for me.“Alright, let's go,” I said quickly, taking Anna’s body into my arms as I stood up, her chest rising and falling slowly as her face turned a bit pale.As I turned to leave, I saw my mum glaring at me with her breat
Peter's POV As I stood outside, facing the wardroom door, my face turned pale, and I could feel my soul crushed into a state of pain and anger.I took a step back and looked at my right arm which was stained by Anna’s blood. I couldn't help the tears that ran down my cheeks; then I began pacing slowly to and fro the passage hall. Anna can't die… she can't, but If she does… I swear to the Moon goddess, my parents will pay dearly for it, I will make it my life’s mission to see them suffer as she is suffering now, I promise.I furrowed my brows in anger and clenched my fist as I deepened myself in the thought of what I’d do if my mate died.“Peter!” I heard a voice call me from a distance.I cleared the tears in my eyes quickly before I turned to meet Thea running towards me with tears in her eyes.I couldn't let anyone see me in tears… not even my sister.Along with my sister, I saw my brother, Jackson, or as I usually call him, Jake, walking behind her.As Thea came close to me, she
Peter's POV I smiled at Anna and noticed her tired eyes. I felt relieved, which was a big change from the fear I had just a few hours earlier.“Anna, thank the goddess,” I spoke softly as I reached for her hand, caressing it.Anna closed her eyes tightly and groaned as she tried to sit up straight.“Hey, hey, hey! Hold on there, Anna,” Thea said soothingly as she moved to the other side of the bed. “Let’s take a breather and not let this get to you.”“It's good to have you back, Anna. We were so worried you wouldn't make it.” Thea continued before Anna gave her a faint smile.“Hey, Anna,” Jackson said, waving his hand at her. “We should probably call the nurse to come check her,” he advised me.Thea nodded and left the room, the soft click of the door echoing in the quiet space.“Are you all right?” I asked Anna, my voice beneath a whisper as I held her hand firmly.Anna tried to talk but she felt a sharp pain and winced, then she closed her eyes, rubbing her injured neck.“I though
Peter's POV “Step away from her!” I growled at the stranger who turned his face sideways before smirking. Then he scoffed, making my blood boil with anger.“Why?” He spoke, his voice firm and carrying a sense of darkness, “So I don't get to do my job?”“Nah, I think I’ll pass.” He spoke quickly, turning and throwing his knife towards my skull. My eyes went wide and my heart raced as I spotted the knife hurtling toward me. In an instant, I dove to the side, the blade piercing the door with a sickening thud, narrowly missing me.“So close!” The stranger pouted, taunting me to hit him.I glanced at the door before gritting my teeth at the strange man in front of me; he covered his face with a black surgical mask and his eye pupils were like every other, brown.Forming my palms into fists, I launched against him; then I threw a punch across his face.He quickly ducked under my arm and struck my right knee. I grunted as pain shot through my leg.“Too slow.” He taunted me again, rising to
Anna's POVI groaned as I slowly opened my eyes, my vision a bit blurry because of the bright ceiling light bulbs.I rubbed my eyes gently, trying to adjust my vision; the smell of drugs hit my nostrils, and the metallic scent of blood joined the party, too. After my vision became clearer, I looked to my left, seeing my mate, Peter. His eyes were closed but his hand was placed on my lap, as usual of him.As I kept staring at him, I winced, feeling a huge wave of pain hit me, traveling through my injured neck.Immediately, Peter's eyes opened and he stared at me.“Anna.” He whispered, yet his voice firm; then he began rubbing my lap.“I’ve missed you.” A smile curled on his lips.I opened my mouth to speak, but I winced in pain as that injury insisted I shut the fuck up before it gave me more discomfort.“The neck huh?” Peter spoke with concern written over his face, “I’m sorry, Anna. The nurse said it was internal bleeding. My father’s claws... they went deeper than I realized.” A sl
Anna's POV “How did that happen?” Peter asked, furrowing his brows in confusion.“We don't know, your Highness.” The guard replied, “We suspect he was either killed during the night or took his own life.” My brows knitted together as I listened. Why would an assassin take his own life for his benefactor? That doesn’t make any sense. It’s far more likely he was killed right under the guards’ noses.Peter’s eyes narrowed as he studied the guard, his jaw tightening with restrained anger. After a moment, he let out a sharp sigh.“You may leave,” Peter ordered. The guard bowed his head and left the room. His jaws clenched in disappointment, I’m sure he knew the assassin was sent by either Charlotte or maybe… by his parents. But I don't believe his parents could do that against me; they have power over hundreds of forces, so why would they need an assassin? My best guess in this case is Charlotte. Since her kingdom is far from here, she doesn't have authority over anyone here, maybe exc
