Peter's POV
I smiled at Anna and noticed her tired eyes. I felt relieved, which was a big change from the fear I had just a few hours earlier.
“Anna, thank the goddess,” I spoke softly as I reached for her hand, caressing it.
Anna closed her eyes tightly and groaned as she tried to sit up straight.
“Hey, hey, hey! Hold on there, Anna,” Thea said soothingly as she moved to the other side of the bed. “Let’s take a breather and not let this get to you.”
“It's good to have you back, Anna. We were so worried you wouldn't make it.” Thea continued before Anna gave her a faint smile.
“Hey, Anna,” Jackson said, waving his hand at her.
“We should probably call the nurse to come check her,” he advised me.
Thea nodded and left the room, the soft click of the door echoing in the quiet space.
“Are you all right?” I asked Anna, my voice beneath a whisper as I held her hand firmly.
Anna tried to talk but she felt a sharp pain and winced, then she closed her eyes, rubbing her injured neck.
“I thought I was going to lose you.” I spoke with regret lurking in my tone, “I’m so sorry I failed to protect you.”
I placed my head on hers before pressing my lips against it.
A single tear escaped Anna's eyes as I broke from her; then, after some seconds passed, Thea came in with the nurse I spoke with earlier.
I kept staring into Anna's eyes before speaking to the nurse.
“I’ll leave you to your work,” I spoke to her, getting a slight nod in return before choosing to take my leave.
After leaving the wardroom along with Jake and Thea, I heard Jake speak.
“So, what do you say bro? Do you agree with the plan?” He asked me about the plan to take Anna to Aunt Lily's.
“I need to think about it, Jake,” I replied to him
“Why?” He pressured me, “My plan is perfect, you should do it.”
“I just need a second, man.” I snapped at him, making him take a step back.
“I can't have Anna in for another treatment at the hospital.”
“All right.” He raised his two hands in surrender.
“I’m sorry for snapping, Jack.” I apologized, “I know you're just trying to help.
‘I think you should do this, it's the best place to keep our mate, plus it's far away from the mansion.’ Mike advised me.
“Alright, I've made up my mind.” I told Jack and Thea, “Anna will stay at Aunt Lily’s.”
“Good choice,” Jack replied while Thea growled in sadness.
I guess she'll miss having Anna around but I’m sure she'll know it's for the best.
*Creak*
I heard the door open again, revealing the nurse as she came out of the room and walked towards me.
“Your Highness, I’ve administered a sedative to help her body relax and begin healing. She’s stable for now, but any added stress could slow her recovery. She must get uninterrupted rest.” She informed me.
“All right, thank you.” I appreciated her, “But, I’ll be with her.”
“That isn't a problem, your highness. As long as she rests.” She told me, before bowing and taking her leave.
“The hospital should be closing anytime soon, bro. I need a night's rest. Tomorrow will be a very busy day” Jack said before turning to take his leave.
Thea let out a sigh, placing her hand on her head.
“Well, I guess it's me and you big bro-”
“No, just me. You have school tomorrow, don't you?” I asked her.
She pouts her lips at the sound of school.
Thea has hated school since her tender age, so it's up to me as her big brother to ensure she goes, whether she wants to or not.
“Yes, I do… but it doesn't hurt that my brother is the Lycan king; I can come anytime I want or not,” Thea said, crossing her hand.
“Don't you even go there?” I snarled at her, “I can't be the reason you won't complete your education. You are going to school, is that clear?”
“Yes.” She sighs again.
“You must be tired too, you should head home,” I instructed her.
“Alright big brother, keep Anna safe, okay?” She hugs me before taking her leave.
“Of course.” I hugged her back, “Now, go.”
Thea turned and left, her short but elegant heels making sounds as she walked down the hall, leaving only me facing the wardroom.
I took a breather before walking into the wardroom.
As I entered the room, the steady beep of the monitor was both a comfort and a reminder of how close I’d come to losing Anna. Her breathing was shallow, her face too pale, yet the faint rise and fall of her chest reassured me she was still fighting.
I took a chair from the side of the room and sat behind Anna's bed, then I placed my hand on her forehead and slowly down to her cheeks.
Bless the goddess; Anna's alive; I don't know what I would have done if she had died. But one thing was sure, I would be broken and full of hatred.
As my hand traveled down her cheeks, I placed a finger on her soft pink lips, feeling the urge to kiss her.
Gently, I drew my face closer to hers, my heart skipped a beat as I pressed my lips against hers.
Something tells me she can feel it too.
*Beep*
The beep of the monitor quickened for a moment, my breath catching as I froze. Then, it settled again, a steady rhythm that reminded me she was still here, still fighting.
I leaned back, letting out a shaky breath as emotions swirled inside me. I needed a moment to clear my head, to steel myself for what came next, so I decided to use the restroom.
******
After using the restroom for a few minutes, I returned
only to find a strange person dressed in black, holding a knife pointed at Anna's chest.
“Hey!” I roared at him.
Peter's POV “Step away from her!” I growled at the stranger who turned his face sideways before smirking. Then he scoffed, making my blood boil with anger.“Why?” He spoke, his voice firm and carrying a sense of darkness, “So I don't get to do my job?”“Nah, I think I’ll pass.” He spoke quickly, turning and throwing his knife towards my skull. My eyes went wide and my heart raced as I spotted the knife hurtling toward me. In an instant, I dove to the side, the blade piercing the door with a sickening thud, narrowly missing me.“So close!” The stranger pouted, taunting me to hit him.I glanced at the door before gritting my teeth at the strange man in front of me; he covered his face with a black surgical mask and his eye pupils were like every other, brown.Forming my palms into fists, I launched against him; then I threw a punch across his face.He quickly ducked under my arm and struck my right knee. I grunted as pain shot through my leg.“Too slow.” He taunted me again, rising to
Anna's POVI groaned as I slowly opened my eyes, my vision a bit blurry because of the bright ceiling light bulbs.I rubbed my eyes gently, trying to adjust my vision; the smell of drugs hit my nostrils, and the metallic scent of blood joined the party, too. After my vision became clearer, I looked to my left, seeing my mate, Peter. His eyes were closed but his hand was placed on my lap, as usual of him.As I kept staring at him, I winced, feeling a huge wave of pain hit me, traveling through my injured neck.Immediately, Peter's eyes opened and he stared at me.“Anna.” He whispered, yet his voice firm; then he began rubbing my lap.“I’ve missed you.” A smile curled on his lips.I opened my mouth to speak, but I winced in pain as that injury insisted I shut the fuck up before it gave me more discomfort.“The neck huh?” Peter spoke with concern written over his face, “I’m sorry, Anna. The nurse said it was internal bleeding. My father’s claws... they went deeper than I realized.” A sl
Anna's POV “How did that happen?” Peter asked, furrowing his brows in confusion.“We don't know, your Highness.” The guard replied, “We suspect he was either killed during the night or took his own life.” My brows knitted together as I listened. Why would an assassin take his own life for his benefactor? That doesn’t make any sense. It’s far more likely he was killed right under the guards’ noses.Peter’s eyes narrowed as he studied the guard, his jaw tightening with restrained anger. After a moment, he let out a sharp sigh.“You may leave,” Peter ordered. The guard bowed his head and left the room. His jaws clenched in disappointment, I’m sure he knew the assassin was sent by either Charlotte or maybe… by his parents. But I don't believe his parents could do that against me; they have power over hundreds of forces, so why would they need an assassin? My best guess in this case is Charlotte. Since her kingdom is far from here, she doesn't have authority over anyone here, maybe exc
(Anna POV)“My wolf needs you.”As Daniel pinned me to the wall of the bathroom, I felt my heart skip as his hot gaze, filled with nothing but lust, was on me. He stroked my lips with a sudden motion, pressing them with fierce kisses that moved down to my neck. “Ah… Alpha…” I let out a soft moan as I tried to speak, “Please, I don't want any trouble from your Luna.” I whispered, begging him. Daniel paused, staring at me with a timid smirk. “Oh please, just because I rejected you doesn't mean your body isn't mine.” He spoke before pressing my lips harder and rubbing my skin roughly with his palm. I felt a wave of disgust wash over me as he said that, like what the fuck!A few minutes ago, he was professing to the whole pack his love for that witch, Priscilla, who had made my life hell when she found out I was his mate. Now, in secret, he is still claiming his possession over my body after rejecting me a year ago. What an asshole! Though this isn't the first time he has done this
Anna's POV “Mate,” I whispered with wide eyes. What! How's this possible for someone like me?Of course, I heard about people getting second mates, but for someone like me to be this lucky… I can't believe it.Is this a drill? Why the hell would the goddess glue me up with someone extremely powerful? Was she trying to make me go through the pain of losing a mate all over again? As I stared at the Lycan king's face, I could see his eyes widened with surprise, gazing fiercely at me. Then a small smile curled on his lips. What's with the smile? Who would be happy to be mates with someone with my past, especially you?“Release her.” I heard him order the guards gripping me, his voice firm, carrying a sense of great authority. The guards let go of me immediately as he ordered them to.Suddenly, he began to walk towards me and my heart began to beat rapidly as my head dotted with sweat.I took a step back away from him, afraid. As I looked up at him again, his face lined with worry.Just s
Anna's POV My heart plummeted as I watched the lady kiss my newfound mate. What in the actual fuck is going on here!! Who’s this?!I thought as I stared at the lady's overall, her braided white hair, her fair smooth skin, and her beautiful, elegant purple gown.Basically, to me, she looked way better than me; her beauty was unmatched, and she seemed like a princess, or maybe she was.I should never have brought my hopes up for a better life; now look at me, staring like a bloody fool.As they broke from the kiss, the lady turned in my direction.“Who's this honey?” She asked Peter, staring at me.“What the hell was that?” Peter spoke, his eyes widened with disgust at what she had just done. It seemed he wasn't expecting this treatment from her, and then his brows narrowed down, indicating his anger. He better not be acting innocent. He grabbed me by the wrist again, walking past her and hitting her slightly on the shoulder without answering her question.I was shocked by his sudden
Anna's POV “Peter!” My stepdad yelled, “Have you gone mad?! How dare you say that?” his face flaming with raw, intense anger. As Peter said that, I felt my jaw drop as I gasped in shock, my heart starting to race. How could he say that just for someone worthless like me?As my eyes traveled through the dining table, I could see Charlotte glaring at me with a devilish smirk on her lips while Peter’s sister focused on her food without paying any attention to the drama happening. "No Dad,” Peter replied, “And I will say it again!”I felt a shiver run down my spine as he said that, look what I've done!“You and Mum have known how long I have been searching for my mate, and finally, I’ve found her. Now you're telling me to reject her and go into a loveless relationship with that thing over there?” He pointed at Charlotte.“Fuck no.” He ended his statement.Step Dad shook his head in irritation,“You fool! That thing you're calling your mate is my stepdaughter!” He snapped, the word bitin
Anna's POVAs I spoke those words, I felt my heart sink with sadness, but I knew it was for the best.He can't sacrifice his birthright for me… No! I won't let him.Silence filled the room as Peter stared at me, his face stern.“Anna,” Peter said firmly, “I won’t, I won't reject you.” He replied to me.I narrowed my eyes as he said that, and then I faced him, more tears streaming down my face.“Peter… please-” “Shhhh.” He whispered, cutting my words short, before he took my hands, lifting me.“I can't… I can't let you-” My voice shook before Peter did his rudeness again, stopping me from protesting to stop him.My face pressed against his chest as he drew me closer to him, taking in his lavender scent as he wrapped his hands around my trembling back.I have never seen anyone like Peter in my life, who's willing to risk all he has just for me, a mere slave. Well, I guess the one they call mate, is the most important person in your life.Peter broke from me before speaking.“Come, you

Peter's POV As I stood outside, facing the wardroom door, my face turned pale, and I could feel my soul crushed into a state of pain and anger.I took a step back and looked at my right arm which was stained by Anna’s blood. I couldn't help the tears that ran down my cheeks; then I began pacing slowly to and fro the passage hall. Anna can't die… she can't, but If she does… I swear to the Moon goddess, my parents will pay dearly for it, I will make it my life’s mission to see them suffer as she is suffering now, I promise.I furrowed my brows in anger and clenched my fist as I deepened myself in the thought of what I’d do if my mate died.“Peter!” I heard a voice call me from a distance.I cleared the tears in my eyes quickly before I turned to meet Thea running towards me with tears in her eyes.I couldn't let anyone see me in tears… not even my sister.Along with my sister, I saw my brother, Jackson, or as I usually call him, Jake, walking behind her.As Thea came close to me, she
Peter's POV “Hmm.” Michella let out a sigh as she removed the stethoscope. “Her heart’s still beating… but barely.” She told me, making my heart skip a beat.“But it's only a neck injury, how's that possible?” I asked, furrowing my brow in confusion as I ran my fingers through Anna's cheek, caressing it.Michelle scoffed a little at what I said before speaking,“She has a fragile neck, and this isn’t just about the surface injury. The neck houses critical arteries, and even minor trauma can cause a cascade of issues, swelling, reduced blood flow to the brain, or worse.” She explained, looking at my face, which was etched with confusion to what she said.“It’s best if we take her to the pack hospital where she can get proper treatment.” She broke the situation down for me.“Alright, let's go,” I said quickly, taking Anna’s body into my arms as I stood up, her chest rising and falling slowly as her face turned a bit pale.As I turned to leave, I saw my mum glaring at me with her breat
Peter's POVMy eyes widened in shock as my Dad grabbed Anna swiftly from the guard’s hold.“Peter! Do you realize what you’ve done?” My Dad yelled, his eyes widened, glaring at me and the dead body that flowed blood, staining the tiles of the living room behind me.“Let her go!” I roared at my Dad, gritting my teeth with a clenched fist.As I stared at Anna, I felt my heart break a little as she stared back in fear, more tears streaming down her cheeks.‘At any cost.’ was what I promised to protect her. Even if it means killing my forces.“No!” A voice echoed through the walls of the living room, making everyone turn in the direction in which the voice came from.I saw the head maid run towards the guard’s dead body with tears streaming down her face.“My son…” she spoke, her voice cracking as she placed her palms on his pale face.“My only son…” she sobered. As I heard that, my brows raised in regret.Fuck! I knew the head maid had a son but never knew he was part of the forces, I was
Peter's POV I furrowed my brows and gritted my teeth as my palms clenched into strong fists, to the point I could feel my claws digging into my skin, letting blood flow out.Suddenly, I pushed my Dad forcefully away from Anna, my blood staining his white top.“What the hell?” I roared, “How dare you lay your hands on her!” I glared at him, threatening to land a punch on his face.My Dad's eyes widened, and everyone in the room was stunned by my sudden action; I knew they saw me as a disrespectful son, but I didn’t fucking care about that.My Dad has no audacity to hit my mate in front of me.He scoffed as he glared at me, not believing the fact his son would fight against him.“How dare you fight against your father!” My Mum bellowed as she slammed her hand loudly on the table before rising from the couch and walking towards us, her palms into fists. “Why would you protect this witch you call mate, hmm? After what she has done to Charlotte!” Mum yelled, glaring at me before her eyes
Peter's POV As we left the restroom, I couldn't help but feel annoyed at the fact Anna left the mansion.Doesn't she know about the troubles we are facing? I can't have her wandering about my knowledge.“Why did you leave the mansion?” I turned to her, my tone firm as we left the convenience section.“I didn't leave the mansion on-” “Hey! There you are… I've been looking everywhere for you.”As Anna tried to explain herself, Thea interrupted, walking towards us quickly and hugging Anna. Then I realized it was Thea who was responsible for Anna leaving the mansion.“Where did you stay so long, hmm?” She asked, with a concerned look, “I started to think you ran away because of the price tag.” She pouts her lips.“I… I.” Anna stammered before I spoke.“Why did you take Anna out of the mansion without my approval?” I asked her, my voice firm but sounding annoyed.“I’m sorry big brother. I only wanted to bond with my step-sister… your mate.” She spoke, a bit confused. “So weird and puzzli
