"Look at her, swaying her hips like she owns the place," someone muttered loud enough for me to hear as I walked down the bustling town square.

I kept my head high, ignoring the sting of their words. This had become my daily life ever since I turned sixteen. Every woman in the pack hated me for the attention I never asked for, and the men only wanted my body, following me around at every chance they got. No one cared about who I really was.

My feet carried me to Mr. Gracia’s vegetable stall, one of the few places in the pack where I felt an even a shred of normalcy.

“Good morning, Rae,” Mr. Gracia greeted me warmly, his weathered hands gently packing a bundle of fresh greens. “It’s a fine day, isn’t it? The sun’s been kind to the crops this season. I was worried we wouldn’t have enough, but look at this—plenty to go around!”

I smiled, grateful for his kindness. “That’s wonderful, Mr. Gracia. The vegetables look amazing, as always.”

As we spoke, I let myself relax, even if just for a moment. But that feeling didn’t last long.

“Rae!”

The voice was sharp, and before I could react, my head jerked back violently. A hand fisted in my hair, yanking me away from the stall.

“You little harlot!” Mrs. Gracia’s voice was loud as she dragged me roughly. “You think you can steal my husband, don’t you? I’ve seen the way you look at him!”

I struggled against her grip, wincing as her nails dug into my scalp. “I’m not trying to steal anyone! I came here for vegetables, nothing more!”

“Liar!” she spat, with her voice rising. “You’ve broken so many homes, Rae. I won’t let you break mine!”

She struck me, her hand connecting with my cheek in a stinging blow.

“Stop this madness, woman!” Mr. Gracia stepped forward, trying to intervene. “She’s done nothing wrong!”

But his words only fueled her anger. She turned on him, slapping him hard across the face. “Stay out of this, old man! You’re too blind to see her for what she is!”

Her hands were back on me, yanking my hair and raining blows down on me. I tried to shield myself, but I couldn’t.

Then suddenly I heard the sound of hooves followed by it was a commanding voice.

“Enough!”

Mrs. Gracia froze, her grip loosening. I looked up, wiping away the tears that blurred my vision.

My eyes landed on Damien—The Alpha King’s son. He sat tall on his horse. He looked furious. In an instant, he was beside me, pulling me into his arms.

“If you ever lay a hand on her again,” Damien said coldly, his eyes locking on Mrs. Gracia, “I will have you thrown into the dungeon. Do you understand me?”

Mrs. Gracia’s face paled, and she stammered a response. “I’m sorry, my prince.”

He turned to the gathered crowd, with a stern look on his face. “That goes for all of you. If anyone dares to harm Rae again, they will answer to me.”

The crowd dispersed quickly, whispers rippling through the square as they scattered.

Damien lifted me onto his horse afterwards. “Hold on,” he said softly, and with a swift kick, the horse began to move, carrying us toward the palace.

As we approached the gates, we were met by Kayla, one of Damien’s closest friends. Her sharp eyes narrowed as they landed on me.

“What are you doing, Damien?” she demanded, stepping in front of us. “Why are you bringing her here? A whore like her has no place in the palace.”

Damien’s jaw tightened. “Watch your words, Kayla.”

“I’m saying the truth!” Kayla spat. “Isn’t she a whore, all she does is entice men.”

“What will your father say when he sees her?” Kayla pressed, her voice rising. “You’re risking everything for this girl!”

“My father won’t say anything,” he replied. “Because I’m going to make Rae my Luna.”

Kayla’s eyes widened, disbelief flashing across her face. “You’ve lost your mind,” she hissed.

Then turned to me,flashing a mean glare my way. “You witch. You’ve bewitched him. Free him from your spell!”

“The only spell I’m under,” Damien said firmly, taking my hand, “is the spell of love.”

Kayla looked like she might explode, but Damien didn’t give her the chance to respond.

“If you’ll excuse me,” he said, “I’d like to spend time with my woman.”

He led me down the palace halls and my heart raced as his words echoed in my mind. His woman.

When we were alone, I finally found my voice. “Did you mean what you said out there?”

Damien stopped walking, turning to face me. “Every word,” he said softly. “I’ve loved you since I set my eyes on you on solstice night. I know we may not be mates, but I don’t care. I’ve thought about it long and hard. I don’t want anyone else. I want you as my Luna.”

My breath hitched. His words were beautiful, almost too good to be true. No one had ever looked at me the way Damien did. No one had ever fought for me, protected me, the way he had. I knew that if I was with Damien I wouldn’t have to deal with the women in the pack.

“I want to marry you,” he continued, and his voice caught my attention. “I’m telling my father tonight. By tomorrow, we’ll be together.”

I couldn’t speak, overwhelmed by the weight of his love and his promise.

“You’re quiet,” Damien said, his voice laced with worry. “Do you not want this?”

“I do,” I whispered.

Relief flooded his face, and he leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to my cheek.

That night passed quickly , and before I knew it, I was back at the palace. Damien greeted me at the gates, he had an excited look on his face.

“My father wants to see you,” he said, taking my hand.

But the moment we entered the courtroom, the atmosphere shifted. The Alpha King sat on his throne, his gaze cold as it swept over me.

“Your majesty.” I bowed my head, trying not to feel intimidated by his gaze.

“Is she the one?” he asked Damien, ignoring my greeting entirely.

“Yes, Father,” Damien said confidently.

Before another word could be spoken, a warrior stepped forward, whispering in the King’s ear.

The Alpha’s expression darkened, and he rose abruptly, leaving the room with the warrior.

When he returned, his face was hardened , and more guards trailed behind him.

“Seize her!” he roared, pointing at me.

The guards moved quickly, grabbing my arms.

“What is going?” I cried out in shock.

“Father, what are you doing?” Damien demanded, stepping between me and the guards. “This is the woman I want to marry!”

“You can’t marry her,” the Alpha spat. “She’s a traitor.”

The Alpha King’s words echoed in my head as I sat in the cold, damp cell of the dungeon. My body ached from being thrown into the cage, and my mind raced with questions. Why did the king call me a traitor? I couldn’t wait for Damien to return he told me he was going to find out what was going on. My heart leaped when I heard footsteps descending the stone steps. It was Damien. He stood before my cell, his face was covered with fury and something deeper—betrayal. “Damien,” I whispered, scrambling to my feet. “Tell me the truth,” he demanded. “If you do, maybe I can convince them to spare you.” I blinked, confusion washing over me. “The truth about what?” His eyes darkened, and he stepped closer to the bars. “Don’t play innocent with me, Rae. I know what you did at the warrior’s welcome back party.” I stared at him, looking more confused than I was before. “I don’t know what you’re—“ Damien let out a dry laugh, and his next words shocked me. “Why are y

My legs shook as I stood in the center of the hall surrounded by the accusing eyes of my pack. Their whispers felt like knives against my skin, each one sharper than the last. “Rae Castor,” the Alpha King’s voice thundered, silencing the murmurs. I flinched at the sound. His piercing silver eyes bore into me from his throne. “You have disgraced this pack,” he declared, his voice echoing off the stone walls. “Do you have anything to say for yourself?” My throat was dry, my lips trembling as I tried to speak. The weight of his words crushed me, but the icy look on Damien’s face hurt even more. “I didn’t do it.” I started, my voice breaking. “You didn’t do it.” the Alpha laughed, his voice echoing through the hall. “That’s what every traitor says.” “I mean it. I didn’t do it. I would never go against this pack. “ I tried to defend myself, deep down I knew my words were not going to do anything but that didn’t stop me. “Alpha please I need you to—“ “Silence!” the Alpha

The towering gates of the hybrid king’s fortress loomed over me as I was escorted into Von Dax’s kingdom. The minute we entered into the palace, Von didn’t spare me a glance as he summoned the head maid, a stern woman with cold eyes named Agnes. “Take her to the servants’ quarters,” Von ordered curtly. “Show her the ropes. She’s one of yours now.” “Yes, Your Majesty,” Agnes replied. As Agnes began to lead me away, a woman appeared, her striking beauty impossible to ignore. She was regal, her long silver hair cascading over her shoulders. She also happened to be pregnant. Her piercing blue eyes locked onto me as she spoke. “And who is this?” she asked Von. “The new maid,” Von said without looking at her. The woman’s lips curved into a sly smile. “Perfect. We already have enough maids in the kitchen. I’ll take her as my private servant.” Von’s eyes flickered to me briefly before he nodded. “Do as you wish.” Before I could process what had just happened, a man

Rae I tried to pick up the tray but I froze as the doors creaked open, and Von’s cold eyes landed on me. “What are you doing here?” His voice was sharp. “I…I was bringing your—” He raised a hand, cutting me off. “I didn’t ask for excuses. Leave. Now.” I nodded quickly, backing away, but the weight of what I’d overheard suffocated me. As I walked back to the kitchen, the words of the councilmen replayed in my mind. ‘Take her as your breeder. Kill the girl after the child is born.’ I didn’t want to die. By the time I reached the kitchen, my decision was made. I had to escape. Anna was scrubbing dishes, her sleeves rolled up, as she hummed softly to herself. “Anna,” I whispered, stepping closer. “Can I ask you something?” She glanced at me, raising an eyebrow. “What is it?” “This palace…it’s enormous. Where’s the nearest exit?” I asked in a low tone, glancing behind my-back to ensure no one was close by. Her hands paused, the water dripping from her finge

The event of the past flooded my mind—The banishment, Damien’s words everything kept spiraling in my mind.“What are you doing here?” My voice was surprisingly cold and Damien seemed to not mind.“I came here to speak to you.” He replied.“You have just five minutes to do so.” A voice said behind me, and I turned to see Von. “Say whatever you have to say quickly.”After that was said he walked away. When Von was gone, Damien took a step closer.“Did you come to ask me if I am doing my maid duties right so you can tell your father?” I spat.“That’s not why I’m here. I came to tell you that I have always known that you were innocent.”My eyes grew as I took in his words.“What do you mean you have always known?” I asked, my lips were trembling.“You have such a pure heart, Rae, that’s what made me attracted to you, and when I found out about what you did. Fighting won’t solve anything.”He turned to me, his expression softening for just a moment.“Rae,” he said, brushing a strand of hair from my face, “I have to do this. For you. For us. I can’t let Von keep you here.”“But—”“No,” he cut me off gently. “Trust me.”Before I could say more, Von’s growl cut through the air.“Step away from him, Rae,” he commanded.Reluctantly, I let go of Damien and stepped back, my heart shattering as I moved away. Then suddenly, I heard the sound of a voice drawing me out of the darkness.“She’s finally awake.” The voice said. VonThe dungeon was damp, filled with the stench of blood and stone. I walked in, and the guards immediately stiffened at my presence. I had decided to go see Landon, it was a crazy move but I just had to do it. I needed to save the people.I needed them to trust me again. One of the guards stepped forward and I stared at him. “Shall we get your kit ready, Your Majesty?” He asked.I paused. My eyes drifted to the cell, where Landon sat chained to the wall, his face bruised and shirt stained with blood. He was still unconscious, I hoped he would come wake up soon. I needed to speak to him. “No,” I said, a few seconds later. The guards exchanged looks of confusion.“I said no,” I repeated, firmer this time. “Free him.”Their eyes widened in disbelief. One of them hesitated. “Your Majesty?”“You heard me,” I said coldly.Roy, who had been standing silently by the wall, stepped closer. “Are you sure about this, Your Majesty?” His voice was low as he spoke.I turned to him. “Very sure.”

Von I followed Roy down the hallway in silence, my boots echoing against the stone floor. My jaw clenched tighter with every step. I didn’t know what I’d do when I saw Landon—only that it wouldn’t be merciful. The throne room doors opened, and I stepped inside. My eyes locked onto him immediately.Landon looked almost the same, except for the patches of white in his beard. Time had aged him, but not enough to erase what he’d done.“Von!” he said the moment he saw me.I stopped in my tracks. My voice was cold as I spoke. “It’s Your Majesty to you. You’ve lost the right to call me by name.”His head dropped for a second. “It seems… you haven’t let go of the past.”“Betrayal like yours doesn’t get forgotten. Not in this lifetime.” I spat. I was trying to control myself I didn’t want to attack him. Not yet!Landon stepped forward slightly. “I know what I did was wrong. I have been living in guilt ever since. That’s why I’m here. I came to the palace because… I wanted to apologize. But th

Von I put on my armor, ensuring that it was tightened around my body. Then I headed out with the rest of the guards. Before I left, I went to Rae’s room. She was still asleep, her face appeared peaceful as it always was.“Wish me luck,” I whispered, sitting beside her for a moment. “I’m really counting on tonight. I need to find out the truth before the people come for me.”I stood up, gave her one last look, and left the palace. The car ride was quiet. Roy sat beside me. The streets were darker than usual. Quiet. Too quiet. I guessed it was because everyone feared rumoring at night ever since the incident happened. When we arrived at the checkpoint, the guards split up, heading toward different parts of the area. I stayed near one of the buildings with Roy. We kept low, hiding in the shadows.Roy pointed toward a house at the end of the street. “This one hasn’t been hit. Every house on this street has seen death—except that one.”“Why?” I asked, frowning.“I don’t know. But it sits

Von I stood still, staring at the bodies lined up in the streets. The smell of blood mixed with the scent of wet earth. It had rained earlier, and now the streets were soaked—with water, with sorrow, with death. People cried around me. Some screamed as they held their loved ones—mothers, children, fathers—all lifeless in their arms.My chest tightened. I didn’t know what to say or how to move. It had been three weeks since this nightmare began, and instead of getting better, it had turned into something worse. Something monstrous.I swallowed hard and turned slowly to Roy, who stood beside me. His face looked pale. “How did this happen?” I asked. “I told you all to be alert.”“We were,” Roy said quickly. “We kept watch. The guards didn’t see anyone leave their homes. Nothing strange happened during the night but why the time we stepped into the street. We couldn’t believe how it happened.”I shook my head, still trying to process the scene. “This is strange,” I muttered, more to myse

VonI woke up with a stiff neck and sore back, from sitting in the chair beside Rae’s bed. Her hand was in mine, and the cold feeling reminded me that she was still here with me—even if she wasn’t awake.I stood up slowly, stretched a little, and walked to the door. When I opened it, Anna was standing right outside. She looked tired. Her arms were folded across her chest, and her eyes were red like she’d been crying.“How is she?” Anna asked softly.I looked down, then back at her. “Still the same.”She nodded and peeked past my shoulder, her eyes finding Rae on the bed. She didn’t say anything for a while. Just stared. And in that moment, I saw it. The pain. The helplessness. She loved Rae just as much as I did—maybe even more in her own way.“You can spend some time with her,” I said, stepping aside. “She needs all the love she can get.”Anna gave a small smile. “Thank you.”I left the room, closing the door gently behind me. Her eyes were shut, and her body was limp, slumped on the ground as her soul had drifted somewhere I couldn’t reach. My heart pounded as I rushed to her, kneeling and scooping her into my arms. She felt so light, too still, like she wasn’t really there. “Please, stay with me,” I whispered as I held her tighter.I didn’t waste another second. I carried her straight back to the car, each step feeling heavier than the last. When I reached the vehicle, my eyes immediately landed on the driver who had brought her.“Jaro!” I called out sharply. He jumped from the driver’s seat, eyes wide with worry. “Yes, Alpha?”“Get the pack doctor to the palace. I stood close to Jace’s stone, idly staring at the withered flowers that clung to it. My eyes suddenly moved to the sky which had gotten darker. I watched as the once bright clouds turned grayish like it was harboring rain.I didn’t know if this was a sign that it was about to rain or a sign that Madame Rain was coming.I hoped it was the second. The last thing I wanted was to deal with rain, which would stop me from achieving my mission.I sighed, pulling my eyes from the sky, and back to my surroundings. My eyes scanned the field of tombstones, noticing how the ground looked forgotten, like death itself was tired of remembering who it took. ‘Where was

I don’t want any more lives lost because we were too blind to see the pattern.”The head guard nodded sharply, scribbling something in his ledger. The others around the table exchanged tense glances, and I could feel the an uneasy feeling growing in the room. The pack had become chaotic the second me and Rae left for our vacation. My guards had reported the death of two people along a familiar street, the minute Rae and I drove in. I couldn’t help but arrange a meeting quickly trying to get to the bottom of things.“Is that the only thing that has happened?” I asked, scanning each face, as I pulled myself out of my thoughts.
