Rae

I couldn’t believe who I was staring at. My heart stopped as I took a step forward. The event of the past flooded my mind—The banishment, Damien’s words everything kept spiraling in my mind.

“What are you doing here?” My voice was surprisingly cold and Damien seemed to not mind.

“I came here to speak to you.” He replied.

“You have just five minutes to do so.” A voice said behind me, and I turned to see Von. “Say whatever you have to say quickly.”

After that was said he walked away. When Von was gone, Damien took a step closer.

“Did you come to ask me if I am doing my maid duties right so you can tell your father?” I spat.

“That’s not why I’m here. I came to tell you that I have always known that you were innocent.”

My eyes grew as I took in his words.

“What do you mean you have always known?” I asked, my lips were trembling.

“You have such a pure heart, Rae, that’s what made me attracted to you, and when I found out about what you did. It was hard for me to believe, but I knew the

RaeDusk settled over the palace, casting an orange glow across the open field.I stood at the edge of the clearing, my heart pounding as Damien stepped forward. I rushed to his side, clutching his arm.“Damien, please,” I begged, my voice trembling. “There has to be another way to end this. Fighting won’t solve anything.”He turned to me, his expression softening for just a moment.“Rae,” he said, brushing a strand of hair from my face, “I have to do this. For you. For us. I can’t let Von keep you here.”“But—”“No,” he cut me off gently. “Trust me.”Before I could say more, Von’s growl cut through the air.“Step away from him, Rae,” he commanded.Reluctantly, I let go of Damien and stepped back, my heart shattering as I moved away. Von’s gaze lingered on me for a moment before he turned his attention to Damien.“You know it’s never too late to surrender,” Von said, positioning himself in front of Damien.“I should be the one telling you that,” Damien replied.“I like your bravery, y

VonI rushed down the stairs, sprinting through the halls until I got closer to my men.“Secure the doors to the entrance!” I bellowed. “No one gets in or out unless I say so!”My men scrambled to follow my orders, spreading out to fortify the entrances. As I darted to another corridor, one of my soldiers came rushing toward me. His face looked.“What’s wrong?” I demanded. He tried to catch his breath before speaking up.“Your majesty,” he gasped, clutching his side. “The rogues, they have found their way inside. I saw them coming down the hall!”I clenched my fists, anger boiling in my veins. “Get every man we have on standby. Now!”He nodded and disappeared into the fray. Just as I turned to assess the situation, a loud war cry erupted, sending chills down my spine.I didn’t hesitate. I ran toward the source of the noise, my body shifting instinctively. My hands transformed into sharp claws, ready to strike them all. The scent of blood and sweat filled my nostrils as I got closer to

RaeThey said death was scary because It meant you would never laugh or cry or know what it feels like to taste your favorite food, but as I fell off that cliff none of those thoughts crossed my mind, all I was thinking about was how I would be reunited with the only man that truly cared about me—Damien.I felt alive and free as darkness surrounded me. Then suddenly, I heard the sound of a voice drawing me out of the darkness.“She’s finally awake.” The voice said. I pulled open my eyes slowly. My eyes landed on a man who was staring at me with a soft expression. “This is a miracle, Your Majesty. Most people that fall off that cliff don’t end up alive.”“I guess miracles do exist.” The sound of a familiar voice made me turn my head the other way and my eyes landed on Von.Why was he here? I was supposed to be with Damien. The doctor moved closer to me, taking one good at me before turning to Von. “She needs to rest, and please ensure that she takes it easy on her legs.”Von nodded, es

Von“Your majesty, you have visitors.” The sound of my guard’s voice caught my attention. I had been staring at the grave where my wife was buried. It was sad, that I never got the opportunity to give her a befitting burial and every day it haunts me.I sighed, turning to look at my guard who hadn’t left his spot since he delivered the message.“Who are these visitors you speak of?”He bowed his head. “The councilmen.”I sighed louder than before. I knew why they were here. They probably wanted to ask why I hadn’t given them the news of an heir. Bloody bastard, that’s all they cared about.“Tell them I’m not around!” I said, regaining myself. “And escort them out once you do.”The guard nodded. I made up my mind to give him a promotion if he ended up getting rid of the councilmen. I knew they wouldn’t leave until they had seen me. As much as I hated them, I admired their perseverance.I continued to stare at my wife’s grave, and some minutes later, the guard had returned. “Did they l

RaeThe sound of knocks pulled me from the deep abyss of my thoughts.I was curled in a ball, tucked under a blanket, as if their fragile embrace could shield me from the horrors of what had just happened. My body felt foreign, and I couldn’t stop the tears that stung my face. The knocking continued, and I ignored it, pulling the covers tighter, hoping whoever it was would go away. During that moment, the door opened, and I heard the sound of soft footsteps.“Rae?” It was Anna. I refused to look at her, my voice cracking as I yelled, “Get out!”She didn’t move. Instead, she took more steps forward.“I said get out!” I screamed, my voice breaking as fresh tears spilled down my cheeks.Anna stopped mid-step. “Rae...” she began, but I stopped her from saying more words.“Didn’t you hear what I said?” I snapped, glaring at her through tear-blurred eyes. But she doesn’t flinch. Her gaze shifted, and I saw her eyes land on the bloodstained sheets. Her expression changed at that moment.“Oh.

VonI was angry—no, furious—and that feeling burned through my veins like wildfire. I hated myself for what I had done. I was becoming like him.Calister’s voice echoed in my head.“You’re nothing like him!”“You’re Von! You’re different.” Her words continued to echo.Calister’s words seemed to do nothing. I was a ruthless person. Or in Rae’s words, I was a monster. The weight of my actions sat heavily on my chest, suffocating me. I couldn’t bear the feeling within me, so I turned to the one thing that could quiet it, if only for a while: a bottle of alcohol.I poured drink after drink, drowning in my thoughts. The liquor burned as it went down, but it wasn’t enough to numb the feeling. I kept drinking until the world blurred around me, and my legs felt like they couldn’t hold me up any longer.“I guess it’s time to call it a night,” I said, standing on my feet.I almost fell, but one of my guards who was standing close to me rushed to my side.“Your majesty.” He said, holding me up.

RaeWhen I saw Von, my chest tightened, and every nerve in my body screamed at me to run.Without thinking, I turned to flee, but his strides were longer and faster, and in no time, he caught up to me.His hand gripped my arm tightly, and I froze, too angry and too afraid to fight.“You had me worried.” He said in a firm voice. “I don’t want you wandering off ever again. Do you not understand that you’re mine now? My breeder.”His words ignited a fire in me, and I laughed bitterly, shaking my head.“I will never be what you want, Von,” I said. “Never.”His eyes darkened, and a cold smile played on his lips. “After what happened yesterday,” he said, in a stern voice, “you already are.”My breath hitched. The audacity of his words made my blood boil.“How can you talk about yesterday so casually?” I hissed, glaring at him. “After what you did to me?”For a moment, just a fleeting second, I see something flicker across his face—regret? Pain? But it vanished as quickly as it appeared, rep

Without hesitation, I roughly grabbed her in my hands, leading her towards the door.My face twisted in my friend’s direction mouthing to him that I would be back soon. The minute we were out of the building I came across my driver who was heading in my direction, “I told you to watch her. What were you doing?”The driver’s face paled as he stammered, “My lord, I tried. She ignored my warnings. I did everything I could.”“Clearly, it wasn’t enough,” I snapped, before facing Rae, my fury barely contained. “Why don’t you ever listen?”Rae lifted her chin and met my glare with one of her own. “I don’t take orders from you,” she said in a thick tone. “And if you must know, I was going to expose you. VonThe dungeon was damp, filled with the stench of blood and stone. I walked in, and the guards immediately stiffened at my presence. I had decided to go see Landon, it was a crazy move but I just had to do it. I needed to save the people.I needed them to trust me again. One of the guards stepped forward and I stared at him. “Shall we get your kit ready, Your Majesty?” He asked.I paused. My eyes drifted to the cell, where Landon sat chained to the wall, his face bruised and shirt stained with blood. He was still unconscious, I hoped he would come wake up soon. I needed to speak to him. “No,” I said, a few seconds later. The guards exchanged looks of confusion.“I said no,” I repeated, firmer this time. “Free him.”Their eyes widened in disbelief. One of them hesitated. “Your Majesty?”“You heard me,” I said coldly.Roy, who had been standing silently by the wall, stepped closer. “Are you sure about this, Your Majesty?” His voice was low as he spoke.I turned to him. “Very sure.”

Von I followed Roy down the hallway in silence, my boots echoing against the stone floor. My jaw clenched tighter with every step. I didn’t know what I’d do when I saw Landon—only that it wouldn’t be merciful. The throne room doors opened, and I stepped inside. My eyes locked onto him immediately.Landon looked almost the same, except for the patches of white in his beard. Time had aged him, but not enough to erase what he’d done.“Von!” he said the moment he saw me.I stopped in my tracks. My voice was cold as I spoke. “It’s Your Majesty to you. You’ve lost the right to call me by name.”His head dropped for a second. “It seems… you haven’t let go of the past.”“Betrayal like yours doesn’t get forgotten. Not in this lifetime.” I spat. I was trying to control myself I didn’t want to attack him. Not yet!Landon stepped forward slightly. “I know what I did was wrong. I have been living in guilt ever since. That’s why I’m here. I came to the palace because… I wanted to apologize. But th

Von I put on my armor, ensuring that it was tightened around my body. Then I headed out with the rest of the guards. Before I left, I went to Rae’s room. She was still asleep, her face appeared peaceful as it always was.“Wish me luck,” I whispered, sitting beside her for a moment. “I’m really counting on tonight. I need to find out the truth before the people come for me.”I stood up, gave her one last look, and left the palace. The car ride was quiet. Roy sat beside me. The streets were darker than usual. Quiet. Too quiet. I guessed it was because everyone feared rumoring at night ever since the incident happened. When we arrived at the checkpoint, the guards split up, heading toward different parts of the area. I stayed near one of the buildings with Roy. We kept low, hiding in the shadows.Roy pointed toward a house at the end of the street. “This one hasn’t been hit. Every house on this street has seen death—except that one.”“Why?” I asked, frowning.“I don’t know. But it sits

Von I stood still, staring at the bodies lined up in the streets. The smell of blood mixed with the scent of wet earth. It had rained earlier, and now the streets were soaked—with water, with sorrow, with death. People cried around me. Some screamed as they held their loved ones—mothers, children, fathers—all lifeless in their arms.My chest tightened. I didn’t know what to say or how to move. It had been three weeks since this nightmare began, and instead of getting better, it had turned into something worse. Something monstrous.I swallowed hard and turned slowly to Roy, who stood beside me. His face looked pale. “How did this happen?” I asked. “I told you all to be alert.”“We were,” Roy said quickly. “We kept watch. The guards didn’t see anyone leave their homes. Nothing strange happened during the night but why the time we stepped into the street. We couldn’t believe how it happened.”I shook my head, still trying to process the scene. “This is strange,” I muttered, more to myse

VonI woke up with a stiff neck and sore back, from sitting in the chair beside Rae’s bed. Her hand was in mine, and the cold feeling reminded me that she was still here with me—even if she wasn’t awake.I stood up slowly, stretched a little, and walked to the door. When I opened it, Anna was standing right outside. She looked tired. Her arms were folded across her chest, and her eyes were red like she’d been crying.“How is she?” Anna asked softly.I looked down, then back at her. “Still the same.”She nodded and peeked past my shoulder, her eyes finding Rae on the bed. She didn’t say anything for a while. Just stared. And in that moment, I saw it. The pain. The helplessness. She loved Rae just as much as I did—maybe even more in her own way.“You can spend some time with her,” I said, stepping aside. “She needs all the love she can get.”Anna gave a small smile. “Thank you.”I left the room, closing the door gently behind me. I didn’t have a destination in mind. I just wanted to br

Von “Rae!” I shouted, panic thick in my voice. She didn’t respond. Her eyes were shut, and her body was limp, slumped on the ground as her soul had drifted somewhere I couldn’t reach. My heart pounded as I rushed to her, kneeling and scooping her into my arms. She felt so light, too still, like she wasn’t really there. “Please, stay with me,” I whispered as I held her tighter.I didn’t waste another second. I carried her straight back to the car, each step feeling heavier than the last. When I reached the vehicle, my eyes immediately landed on the driver who had brought her.“Jaro!” I called out sharply. He jumped from the driver’s seat, eyes wide with worry. “Yes, Alpha?”“Get the pack doctor to the palace. Now.”Jaro nodded quickly, not asking questions. He climbed into his car and drove off quickly.I walked hurriedly towards my car, positioning Rae in the passenger seat.I adjusted her head until it was resting against the seatbelt. The minute I got behind the heel, I pressed

Rae’s povWhen the car pulled up to the graveyard, I was met with silence not that I was surprised the graveyard always felt like a peaceful sanctuary. “I will be back soon!” I told the guards as I climbed down slowly from the car.My shoes made a soft sound against the gravel as I walked, it grew louder when increased my steps. I stood close to Jace’s stone, idly staring at the withered flowers that clung to it. My eyes suddenly moved to the sky which had gotten darker. I watched as the once bright clouds turned grayish like it was harboring rain.I didn’t know if this was a sign that it was about to rain or a sign that Madame Rain was coming.I hoped it was the second. The last thing I wanted was to deal with rain, which would stop me from achieving my mission.I sighed, pulling my eyes from the sky, and back to my surroundings. My eyes scanned the field of tombstones, noticing how the ground looked forgotten, like death itself was tired of remembering who it took. ‘Where was

Von’s pov“I want that street properly investigated!” I barked, my voice echoing off the stone walls of the palace. “If a murder has taken place there twice, then it’s a sign that something shady is going on. I don’t want any more lives lost because we were too blind to see the pattern.”The head guard nodded sharply, scribbling something in his ledger. The others around the table exchanged tense glances, and I could feel the an uneasy feeling growing in the room. The pack had become chaotic the second me and Rae left for our vacation. My guards had reported the death of two people along a familiar street, the minute Rae and I drove in. I couldn’t help but arrange a meeting quickly trying to get to the bottom of things.“Is that the only thing that has happened?” I asked, scanning each face, as I pulled myself out of my thoughts. My eyes landed on Aemond who quickly stood on his feet He hesitated before speaking. “I don’t want to alarm you, Your Majesty,” he said slowly. “Everyone

Von"Tell me!" Anna said with an impatience tone. “I need answers.”I had no idea what she was inquiring my mind had drifted off the second she started speaking. These days, I was always disconnected from my body, lost in my mind, and reality always felt like it was slipping from my grasp.“Rae…” Anna dragged, her voice was loud and demanding.I blinked, taking in the garden that surrounded us. If it was any other day, I would have found this place serene but right now, nowhere felt serene.“Do you think it’s going to be a boy or a girl?” she repeated, leaning in as she sipped from her juice.I exhaled and leaned forward too, elbows resting on my thighs. “Von wants the baby to be a boy.”She grinned. “I figured he would. Men always want sons at first. But…” She paused dramatically, wagging a finger at me. “What you want matters too.”I shrugged slightly. “It’s not about what I want. It’s also not about what he wants too.”Anna rolled her eyes. “Oh please. My mom always says women have
