Nelly smiled bitterly. “Then I’ll have to trouble you. I hope you don’t find me too intrusive, Mrs. Howard.”

North feigned a look of being touched. “Why would I ever think that? I’d be happy if you could come.”

After saying that, North squeezed Gerald’s hand and said clearly, “Let’s go. I want to look at wedding rings. We’ll have to get Ms. Nelly’s opinion when we find a pair, too!”

Gerald let out a half-stifled laugh and turned to head out.
